“You’d better slow down.” I said to my husband.

“The sheriff is back there.” He told me.

“It might be a speed trap.” I said.

Reluctantly, he slowed down.

And he’s lucky that he did because just up ahead was another sheriff — and he pulled out right alongside of our car!!

“Oh my gosh! You were right!” He told me.

And that’s when the sheriff turned his lights and siren on and pulled over the car in front of us.

So, she’s still on the Taco Hater Side, like me. Blech.

Dear Mom and Dad it’s been really great at Matawa. I’ve meet a few new friends and the food is awsome. And we just saw Ga Ga Ball it was awsme.

Don’t aske me what Ga Ga Ball is, I don’t know how to explain it. I only saw the court and it looked like a very small corral.

Tomorrow night we go pick her up — I can’t believe the week is already over! Wow, that went by really super fast. I didn’t even get to clean out all the Happy Meal toys from her bedroom yet.

I’d better start saving my money, I have a feeling she’s going to want to go back next summer.

Anyhow, after we cleared up that she was staying until Friday I asked the camp director if she’s noticed how lunch and dinner is going for Zoe — because my kid is as picky as they come — and she said: “Well, tonight was taco night.”

Oh no. Taco night. Blech. I don’t eat tacos. Zoe definitely does not eat tacos. This is bad. Very very bad.

I could hear that the camp director was talking with someone else, and I waited for her to get back on the line and tell me that news that my child burst into tears at the dinner table.

“Andrew here tells me that he saw Zoe eat a taco at dinner tonight.”

Whoa whoa whoa. WHAT? HE SAW HER EAT A TACO? My Zoe? With his own eyes? Is he sure?

“Yep. He’s sure.”

Oh. My. Gosh.

That traitor. We HATE tacos!!!

Zoe's off to camp. Look at how she's pulling her suitcase as if she's a professional flight attendent.

 When we dropped her off we found out that on Tuesday, if it’s okay with us, they’ll ask her if she’d like to stay until Friday rather than come home on Wednesday. Surprise! She might stay the whole week!

We are betting a 33% chance she’ll decide to come home.

She’s never stayed overnight at anyone’s home before that we were not related to. And to be honest, we’ve never even had a babysitter that wasn’t a relative either. The years of my childhood where you’d hire any teenager to watch your kid for $1 an hour are long gone. 

Anyhow, she’s leaving today for camp, and she’s pretty excited. She got a new sleeping bag for it, which she’s slept in for the last two days. I’m not sure how Maisy is going to handle this though. She freaks out whenever Zoe isn’t here, especially at bedtime. They’ve slept together every night for seven year now. Maisy has an internal clock that tells her it’s bedtime at 8:30 p.m. and she heads into Zoe’s room and curls up on the pink blanket on the foot of Zoe’s bed.

As for me, it’s going to be strange without her here, but I have a feeling that I’ll be just fine. I see a few bike rides over the next three days and probably a movie.

And perhaps I take this opportunity to clean out all of clutter that haunts her bedroom.

This is what came in box #2: a Nasturtium plant, strawberries, broccoli, Red Boston lettuce, a bag of spinach and field greens mix, more sunflower sprouts, and more garlic whips (technically called garlic scapes, but they look like whips).

The head of Red Boston lettuce was about the size of my Tupperware Thats-a-bowl! I had to soak it, wash the leaves, chop and spin it in segments. Everytime I thought I was done spinning lettuce my husband would ask if I was ready for more yet. And here’s the thing, the farmer sends a newsletter with the box and she is actually disappointed that the boxes aren’t FULLER!

The food is great though. It’s all organic and locally grown. There is just so much of it! Since I don’t eat broccoli or strawberries, and we still have left over cauliflower from last week, I’ve told my husband that every time he opens the door to the fridge he needs to eat one of those three things. Each and every time.

No exceptions.

I didn't even know there was such a thing until these were in my CSA box last week. I can't believe I like them.

This is what happens when you use the wrong bulb. Oops.

Anyhow. I keep my car keys in my car, my husband takes his keys into the house. Whenever we take my car somewhere, we always end up with two sets of keys. Mine. And his. Since he’s the driver I put mine in the glove box so that no one sees the keys inside my car and thinks: Oh, keys! I’ll just break a window and then steal this almost  paid off Honda Hybrid. Of course, when we go to somewhere that does not constitute locking the car, I just leave them sitting out.

Yesterday we were at my parents house for a family get-together, we took my car and ended up with two sets of keys in the car. It was getting late and Zoe had no intention of getting out of the pool so we could leave, however the dogs needed to be let out so my brother drove my husband home while I stuck around until I could get Zoe out of the pool.

I figured it was as good a time as any to start to load the car, and that’s when I realized that he’d locked the car. My keys were in plain sight and all of the windows were rolled up. Not even a small crack so that I could stick a hanger in there and fish out my keys.

So I called him and asked if he wanted me to come home.

“Eventually.” He said.

“You locked my keys in the car.” I told him.

“Figure it out.” He replied.

Figure. It. Out.

He’s lucky he was joking.

So he came back and unlocked my car for me.The habit of working in the big city die hard I suppose, either that, or he accidentally pushed the lock button on the key fob while it was in his pocket.
