The hottest issue in Iceland right now is Icesave and the bill that president Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson turned over to the people.

A lot of misconception has been floating around in the press lately, so here are a few points to consider:

1. A tiny group of icelandic bankers caused a lot of trouble.
2. The law could jeopardize ownership of national resources and therefor our indepenance.
3. Landsbanki was privately owned and operated. Same goes for the depositors insurance fund.
4. The “dept” of 3.9 billion Euro is staggering considering the population. 10.000 Eoru pr living person.
5. Both the Dutch and the British Government have refused to take the matter to court.
6. The interest rate is higher than the Versala aggreement (after WWI).
7. President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson did not veto the low, only forwarding it for the people to decide.
8. The banks operated under European regulations. The regulations are now considered faulty.

Isn’t it time to remember the history of this popular operating system that is just out with a new version?

The video sure awakens some mixed emotions – even a little nostalgia

Some versions of the Window operating system were a massive technological step forward while others were truly horrible (remember BOB?) and the “blue screen of death” was all too common.

Newest version is the Microsoft Windows 7

Microsoft is proud of Windows 7 and trust that it is the best from the beginning. They are apparently all the wiser from the Windows Vista that never really got popular.

Microsoft has been improving their game of introducing new technological devices. The new and upcoming “Courier” looks promising – at least looking at the use case presented in the video.

The Courier looks like it would fill a gap. Phones are just a little bit too small to get any real useful work done and the laptops are just a little bit too clumsy to carry around with you at all times.

The touch interface is a nice user-friendly way to interact with a device (although I’m still waiting for voice control to kick off).

In the opening speech at the “You are in Control” conference in Reykjavik we got to listen to one of my favorite thinkers. Paul Bennett is the creative director of the highly innovative IDEO company.

His opening with a weird Youtube music video of a pre-punk pre-disco French band, set the stage. He would not give us “STRATEGIC SHIT”!

Three main points:

• Relinquish control – gives you control
• Doing good – begets doing good (trust and morality)
• Pie is the new Slice (work to increase the size of the whole instead of trying to get a piece of the pie)

Seven points to thrive by in the digital world:

• Higher Purpose & Meaning
• Embrace failure and learn from it
• Be utterly transparent
• Be peoply wepoly
• Create the THEATER not the PLAY
• Be fundamentally trusting
• Play well with others

For the last years the strongest fortress of Microsoft has been the operating system – Windows.

Now Google has informed its intentions to offer an operating system for personal computers. The operating system is called Google Chrome OS referring to the Chrome browser that is getting very popular. The operating system is therefor based on the browser and integrates perfectly into all the multitude of system that Google has been developing and are web based.

It is clear that Google’s goal is to attack the Microsoft stronghold with a clearer vision for the future. A future that is based on cheap access to the Internet and always-connected wherever and whenever you need. And also a future based on small and cheap devices that you can use to browse the web world and communicate with friends and coworkers.

The picture is getting clear – wherever you look you can use a system from Google:

• Google Chrome to browse the Internet using Windows, Linux or Mac machines
• YouTube to watch and share videos
• Picasa to look at and share photos
• GMail for all email
• Google Reader to follow news and blogs
• Google Docs for writing, spreadsheet calculations and presentations

Of course Google integrates the future operating system with Google Friend Connect which makes it far more powerful than Facebook, Twitter and other social networks.

Now it will be interesting to see if and how Microsoft reacts…
