The video tells the story of the Glands Box Set— four beautiful colored vinyl records (3 out-of-print re-releases and 1 brand new record)  all pressed at Athens’ own vinyl pressing plant, Kindercore Vinyl. It’s cool to see how the albums were made in the video, too.

The set also includes a beautiful full-color book which features quotes and stories from Glands super-fans (including an excerpt from Jason’s story about Ross Shapiro from Athens Potluck.)

Over the past eighteen months we’ve experienced how great it is to work with W&A– after creating the company’s full rebrand from Williams & Associates to W&A Engineering. Thanks to our SEO experts and some back-end coding magic, we were able to retain all of Big City’s super-high ranking in the search engines, and made sure any previous/old pages’ links would bring up the new pages. Thanks to all the new meta improvements, our in-house analytics system is already showing improvements in ranking.

Way back in 2008, we created the first website for Big City Bread Cafe, using html coding and also featuring photographs by Jason Thrasher. Thanks to our clean coding, that first website stood the test of time for ten years even working on mobile devices, long after the recommended 3-4 year new site turnaround to keep up with tech. But times change and we’re so glad that Big City Bread Cafe came back to us for a second round, ten years later!

The only hitch was that they needed the logo on a MEGA RUSH… by the following Monday! And we made it happen.

Now, seven years after we created their first website, we have created an all-new mobile-friendly, responsive, parallax scrolling web site for the Adventure Inn. We integrated their existing OnRes reservations system for seamless online reservations, and used some of Jason Thrasher’s great location photos throughout the site, as well as the fine art photography of the BWCAW by local Ely, MN artist, Roy Misonznick, a good friend of Sue’s.

But his client base is the traveling kind– paddlers who look for adventure all-over-the-world, much like surfers, literally chasing the right conditions for the best experience– so he knew he’d need a great website to get his message about upcoming trips across quickly.

He also knew he needed a brand for Paddle World Adventures which said everything about his business quickly and visually. The logo needed to be both extreme and family-friendly.

Brian brought a sketch on a napkin to show us as an idea for the logo: water moving around a big log and a rock. It took some convincing to assure him that we needed to go more graphic and less literal, but that’s what logos do. After some discussion we realized that Brian’s logo needed to say  Adventure-Extreme / International / Family. Here’s what Thrasher Photo and Design came up with for Paddle World Adventures:

Brian trusted us–  after he spent a few hours explaining his concept, he went away and left everything to Thrasher Photo and Design to figure out, which is our favorite way to do things. Over the next three weeks we came up the wording to convey his excitement and the best way to organize a potential multitude of trips with an easy online deposit “store” to grab money for the trips whose locations were as yet to be disclosed, and a form for folks who didn’t quite know where they wanted to go, plus a killer logo, and a new mobile-friendly website with simple e-commerce which he and his crew could easily manage and post new trips to from anywhere around the globe. Brian also contacted fellow paddler, Karla Held, and she was soon offering up all the cool photos you see on the website via DropBox from where she was at the time- Laos. A few more expert paddlers were impressed with Brian’s concept and came on board to offer trips from Costa Rica to Africa to China, Bolivia, Argentina– the list keeps growing.

When Brian came back a few weeks later, saw the logo and the new website, his reaction was, “How did you do that?” We love the mobile-friendly, responsive website with the home page’s parallax scrolling.

Now, just a few months in, he’s got dozens of trips scheduled all over the world, and we loved the idea so much, we’re hoping to take his Costa Rica tour next spring. Beth even went whitewater rafting for the first time down the Nantahala later this past summer!

It’s official! Athens Potluck a book by Jason Thrasher on the Athens Music Scene is now on sale online at Deeds Publishing and Avid Bookshop in Athens, GA.

The book is a 424-page, 10″ x 13″ full color, hard bound coffee table art book and is a stream-of-consciousness representation of the Athens, GA Music Scene, printed in the USA, by Deeds Publishing featuring photographs by Jason Thrasher.

Here’s what Jason says about Athens Potluck:

For the past 20 years, I’ve been photographing bands and musicians in Athens, Georgia.

I’ve wanted to make a book about the Athens music scene for a while now, but I just couldn’t wrap my head around how to approach such a broad and complex subject. There are hundreds of bands who call Athens home—and there are so many different parts to our music scene—everything from punk to metal and rock n roll… bluegrass and old time music, pop, electronica, rap…

I also knew I didn’t want to do a typical music book that was just about live music or “bands.” What really interests me is the individual musicians and where they fit into the big picture. So many Athens musicians play in multiple bands or tour with one and record with another, and it’s all interconnected—those connections are what’s really interesting to me.

Finally, my wife Beth suggested the concept that would become Athens Potluck: I’d start by choosing one Athens musician, then ask them to choose the next person to be photographed, and the second person would choose the third, and so on. The organic nature of the project itself took me off the hook—with the musicians making the decisions, Athens Potluck became a self-propelling “stream of consciousness” body of work.

In total, I photographed 33 musicians just as diverse as their art. Visiting each in his or her own personal space, I captured them surrounded by their things, their families or pets, their instruments…and then took their questions for the next musician.

Athens Potluck is really a glimpse into the diverse and secretive nature of the Athens music scene—it’s an inside look at how our artistic environment works, growing and thriving on personal connections. Obviously this project wouldn’t exist without that intense spirit of respect and friendship between the artists.

Athens Potluck will be produced by Deeds, a local Athens company, who are great designers and make beautiful books printed in the USA. The book will be available fall 2017.

There will be a private celebration this fall when the books arrive for anyone who bought a book during the pre-sales campaign. Stay tuned for more information!
