Since its been pretty slow i thought i’d take the opportunity to let you guys in on Christian Joy. If you aren’t familiar with her line, you should be.

Joy might have first popped up on your radar with her wildly adventurous stage outfits created for Karen O, which helped her stand way out amongst her peers. She has also designed a line for Topshop and did more costume work for the Klaxons. So, with all of this over-the-top stage wear you might be wondering if her line is wearable, and the answer is most definitely.

I’ve been meaning to post this hot Tom Ford ad featuring Erykah Badu, but I kept forgetting. So, when “Bag Lady” came up on my iPod right now, I thought, “ahhh! the White Patchouli” ad.

So here it is, if you haven’t seen it.  Badu looks gorgeous as usual, and when was the last time you saw a classy Tom Ford ad?  I’m a little scared of patchouli since my knee-jerk reaction is to conjure up images of hacky saks, but we are entering a new hippie phase, so I think it was probably a good business decision.

I’m curious.

Project Runway winner Christian Siriano will be showing Couture in Paris! Well, sort of.  He’s actually creating a collection that will appear during a fashion show scene in the upcoming Eloise in Paris flick.

In the story Eloise runs around Paris with a famous fashion designer, looking for a stolen dress. Everyone’s wondering if they’re going to get a real designer to play the role.  I wish Alber Elbaz wasn’t so shy.

I go to Oak pretty regularly to salivate over all the hot clothes they have–especially the dresses. Especially the dresses by Rachel Comey.

I’m pretty cheap, so I usually wait for the sales and snap up everything my heart desires. Well, it’s sale time, and prices are as low as 50% off!  I was even able to get those F-Troupe ballet shoes I was going gaga over a few weeks ago for half price this weekend.

First up is Block Party doing a dj set with special guests on july 28th from 9pm-2am in Eagle Rock.

The second event will be happening on Sunday July 27th at the Standard in Downtown LA. Super hot bands of the moment Does it Offend You, Yeah? and Health will be doing special DJ sets.

Remember a few year ago before M.I.A. ’s debut cd was released, and she blew up? Well did you ever wonder how all of the sudden it seemed like everyone knew who she was? It was because of a little mix tape she did with Diplo called Piracy Funds Terrorism. Once that album dropped, everyone was going crazy for M.I.A.

Well, it looks like Diplo has once again collaborated on a mixtape, but this time its with Santogold. It features some original Santogold material mixed in with everyone from Aretha Franklin, B52s, Devo, Mark Ronson and many more. It also features packaging by Mike Jones.

You can puchase the mixtape here–keep checking back because it’s currently out of stock, but it will be available on iTunes soon.

This past wednesday Threadtrend was lucky enough to attend the hottest weds night in Los Angeles: La Boum at 86. Located below ground, you enter through a non discript side entrance and walk down the stairs, which leads you into a beautifully decorated and designed space where LA’s it kids go to party.

They have a revolving door of special guest dj’s which in the past have included Zooey Deschanel, Britt from Flight of the Choncords, The Like and many more. They also have a stage where some of the hottest upcoming acts and usually friends of the club play, from Paige Stark to Michael Runion.Every week you are treated to a lovely music selection by LA’s own Ana Calderon.

But don’t expect to just show up to the club and get in, you will need the password for the week to
gain entry.

This past wednesday we were treated to Devendra Banhart and funnyman Aziz Asari, who spun an eclectic mix of music which had the dance floor a buzz (I especially went crazy for all the R Kelly love).

We told you about the Vice Photo Exhibit last week, and Threadtrend stopped by the opening reception to check it out. The exhibit was a fun collection of photos from artist who are famous for their provocative work, including Rennie Ellis, Yoshiki Saitoh, Jin Ohashi, and Kawori Inbe.

The party itself would have been better if the line for drinks wasn’t so unbearably long, but it was still a good time.

The ever-so-fashion-forward Karen O will debut her side project Native Korean Rock this Monday, July 21st to those lucky enough to reside in NYC.

The band will perform two shows at Union Pool in Brooklyn. Both shows went onsale earlier today and instantly SOLD OUT (duh).

Here are some words from Karen O about the project via the YYY’s blog:

Native Korean Rock is a side project of mine comprised of a body of love songs written over the last two years to be performed with a motley crew of NYC natives. Expect high drama, high stakes in two intimate performances.
