Kevin Unger is the proud owner of a Pitbull, not a breed that is typically well mannered. Unger said his dog Bobby is one of the most well-behaved dogs he has ever owned.

Lori Verni, author of Everything You Need To Know About House Training Puppies and Adult Dogs, Certified Master Trainer and owner of Best Paw Forward Dog Education, knows a thing or two about putting your dogs to sleep.

In one of her articles, she posed this question: “Most pet owners are sure to provide healthy dog food, fresh water and a crate for their puppy to call home. So how come the puppy who takes lots of naps all day seems raring to run and play at 3 a.m.?”

The answer? Exercise!! It is such an important element when considering a healthy human being, and yet often completely overlooked when it comes to the general well being of dogs. Many pups are severely lacking the exercise they require to lead a healthy, active life style.

Verni said that it is crucial to make sure that you are putting to bed a VERY tired pet.

“If you plan on turning in at 10 p.m. but your puppy seems to be very sleepy at 9 p.m., you’ll need to wake him by 9:20 to provide some exercise and tire him out a bit more.”

Most people lead very busy lives, and every person has a different amount of time they can dedicate to walking their dogs. If finding time is just not possible, let your dogs run around in the backyard or a park, while you are able to do another activity. Also consider that by walking your dogs for a half hour a day, not only is that great exercise for them, but for you as well.

Talk about killing two birds with one stone.

While every night is not perfect, Verni believes you will see an improvement in your dog’s nightly routine.

While at a local Tempe dog park this past weekend, craziness ensued for dog owners Brent and David.

One of their dogs, Bandit, got into a scuffle with another dog at the park.

Since both dogs had leashes on, they said both parties were able to re-gain control of the situation rather quickly.

Brent expressed how very pleased he was to find that the other owner kept their dog on a leash.

He expressed how frustrating it was that so many owners either do not know or do not care about their dog’s temper. David said that for the life of him he does not understand why people let their dogs run around without a leash. He added that he thinks the responsible thing to do is to keep a leash on them as they play.

This did not seem to be the feeling of all dog owners this past Labor Day weekend.

Stephanie Jones, the owner of two dogs, said that her dogs were minding their own business chewing their bones on the grass, which is a rare occasion for her unruly twosome. It was then that another dog at the park decided it wanted to get in on this delicious dog bone action.

“Naturally, my dogs do not share their bones,” Jones said.

A fight broke out between one of her dogs, Dolly, and the leash-less dog at the park. She was able to grab hold of the leash and pull my dog away before the situation escalated any further.

Jones said the other owner had a significantly more difficult time controlling her dog. “Had the other dog had a leash on, I am confident the situation would have been less of a spectacle for others at the park,” Jones said.

One of the main issues that drive many pet owners crazy is how their dog behaves during meals. More specifically, when dogs beg for food at the dinner table. While some pet owners may sympathize with their pets, keep in mind they have their very own tasty dog food dinner to enjoy.

Caitlin Murphy, a proud owner of two dogs, might have just found the solution to that very problem.

While eating dinner, give your dogs a hollow bone filled peanut butter.  Right now, some may be thinking back to the funny videos on Youtube of dogs eating peanut butter. This is much different, but still a little comical.

Since the peanut butter is inside the bone, the dogs will have to put in some time and effort to get to the food inside.

While your dogs are hard at work trying to maneuver their way to the peanut butter, you have plenty of time to enjoy a peaceful meal.

Granted this may only be a temporary solution, but for those days when nothing else seems to be working, this is a foolproof way.
