This mini trampoline was a gift from Papa and Grandma and it is going to get a lot of use! I may be just as excited as McG about this present because I know how much fun it will be for her. Some of my best childhood memories took place while jumping around a trampoline with my cousins.

Yesterday was McG's third birthday! When Josiah joked and told her she was an old lady, she excitedly said, "I'm not a woman anymore!" We cracked up laughing. For some reason, she thinks being a "woman" is bad, but being a "lady" is good. I think it has to do with me telling her to act lady-like.

We were able to use both our ipad and iphone so more of our family could join us for the blowing out of candles.

Classical Conversations | School Picture Day | Kinston

I spent yesterday taking portraits of this very friendly group of students and mentors from the Kinston Classical Conversations for my first ever "School Picture Day." They are such a fun group and did amazingly in front of the camera. The group shot was a bit challenging, but all I had to do was pull out the old “raise your hand and close your mouth” trick that I learned from my mom, and you could’ve heard a pin drop. They were so polite and well behaved. I was amazed!

Classical Conversations is a wonderful way for children to learn together and parents to be involved in their education. There are open houses for the Kinston Classical Conversations in March, which I will be attending. We've had a wild time for the past week with a birthday party, trips to Durham, and lots of family in from out of state! Our little guy had some quality time with his Papa. Here are some photos of my dad doing "eye-winker, tom-tinker" with him. It's always special to see your parents play the same games with your children that they once played with you. (Has anyone ever heard of "eye-winker, tom-tinker?")

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Party of the decade!!!

Yesterday, we had about 20 munchkins between the ages of four months and five years old in our house at one time. Some may say we are crazy (I kinda had similar thoughts the night before), but we had a blast! We had a little picnic in the living room, very hungry caterpillar cake pops, butterfly-shaped P.B. & J., and lots and lots of crepe paper. My favorite part was my daughter’s expression when she woke up that morning and saw all the decorations and cake pops. My second favorite had to be watching the kids wrap my husband up in crepe paper (a crepe paper cocoon) and then I put some pink butterfly wings on him. (I think I may have enjoyed it more than the kids).

My goal was to make it a fun party, and I don’t think my daughter stopped smiling the whole time. She brings us so much joy, and it was so rewarding to know that we were able to bring her joy for her birthday. Happy Birthday to my sweet girly girl!

We visited the Museum of Life and Science in Durham today where photographic opportunities abound! What an excellent place! The whole day is not nearly enough to see everything, and we could only stay until nap time.

I took a lot more photos than this, but in honor of McG’s Very Hungry Caterpillar party this weekend, I decided to share some photos from the butterfly conservatory. I took some 3-year portraits of McG, too and will be sharing them soon!

Side note: this is a really unique wedding venue. There are nature walks and lots of very scenic areas. We saw a butterfly release this morning and I wondered if it could be incorporated into a wedding ceremony.

Josiah and I celebrated Valentines Day today and he took me to Anthropologie and Ruth’s Chris in Durham. It was an expensive day. We don’t normally splurge, but we let ourselves just this once. Our senses almost had a conniption.

Now, I had never been to Anthropologie before, and I had really, REALLY wanted to go for sometime. It was quite the experience. I wanted to touch everything to feel the different textures. The smells swept me to a foreign land. It was so inspiring. I came away with a few little treasures. One of which was this journal. I love the color and the pop of bling. Plus, there are birds on it. I love birds.

My hope for the rest of the year is to record all of the blessings God has done in my life so that my grandchildren, my children and I can always look back to see how he has been and continues to be faithful in our lives. Good night.

Valentines Day wedding | Styled shoot | Branches and Light

I am filled to the brim with excitement! Not only is it Valentines Day, but I finally get to share my photographs from the styled shoot for Branches and Light! The theme was a Valentines Day wedding. The couple was so sweet and, no, they are not professional models! They totally could be, though!

Caroline Joy and Nancy Ray did a beautiful job collaborating with other local vendors (listed below) to set up the shoot. Don’t you just love that they stacked benches to use as the dessert table. It was such a beautiful day and the sunlight made the desserts look delectable! Those are macaroons in the mason jars.

You can also take a gander at Caroline and Nancy’s images on the Southern Weddings blog today. I am just so thrilled that I was a part of this shoot, and it is a feature on my favorite wedding blog on this oh-so-important day for lovers everywhere.
