An 80's throwback outfit here on Thrift and Shout today! I was super excited when I found this skirt at Goodwill! It's vintage Guess and I just love the iconic Guess logo print! It reminds me of the Marc Jacobs letter print fabric that lines many of his bags. I feel like so many people are afraid of 80's and 90's fashion so I hope this outfit shows how it can be done in a modern way!

I got this cute vintage Gap dress recently and couldn't wait to wear it! When I put it on it just felt a little bland. Then I saw this tropical print jacket hanging in my closet and it was just the perfect thing to make this outfit more interesting!

This awesome vintage t-shirt is one of my favorite recent thrift store finds! The challenge with it is that is is a little big and boxy on me so I thought I'd sadly have to pass it along to someone else. Then I thought to cuff the sleeves and give it the old half tuck in and all of the sudden it just worked! When I thrift shop, I am always on the hunt for super unique items and this t totally fits that bill! I love the leather and suede diamonds around the neckline! I echoed that design with these art deco earrings I got at Forever 21!

The challenge with styling this dress was that I didn't want anyone to think I work at a zoo or a state park! I figured out that the key is in the accessories! Adding the scarf, the shoes, and the bracelet with a bit color gave it the look I was going for!

This shirt caught my eye one day as I was browsing through Target. I loved the colors in the plaid and the cute patches. Then I realized I was in the little boys section! Oh well! The size large fit just right!

A little white dress has to be my favorite thing to wear in the spring/summer time! They always look so crisp and cute! They are also the perfect blank canvas for styling an outfit. You can take it in almost any direction! Today I decided to give my LWD a rocker vibe. I love contradictions in fashion! It always creates a nice balance!

The Return of the Jean Skirt

I'm so excited the jean skirt is in fashion again! About 10 years ago they were a major staple in my wardrobe and I've missed them! Since they were once very popular that means you can probably find them at any thrift store pretty easily! But, like all trends that come back around, the styling has changed slightly so let me help you get up to speed on how to rock the denim skirt in 2013!

Try a Full Denim Skirt:
-It can hit anywhere from just below the knee to several inches above the knee
-the fabric is lighter and thinner than traditional denim
-pair with a tucked in blouse or crop top; nothing that hangs below the waistline
-ankle boots, low heels or sandals are the best shoes to wear

Try the Denim Pencil Skirt
-must fit somewhat close to the body; not baggy
-looks extra cool when distressed
-looks great with a blouse and/or blazer
-should hit at the top of knee or just above
-pair with heels or wedges

A-line and Full Midi styles work as well:

More styling do's and don'ts:

-don't wear cowboy boots with any of these denim skirts!

-don't go super short or super long with these denim skirts- it just look dated; sorry!

-do pair with a blouse and/or blazer

-do channel the 70's

-don't wear denim with strong light to dark fadding

-do wear super distressed denim

-do pair with a tank and flat sandals for a casual summer day

-do wear denim with denim!

So the clear winner from last week's Thrifty Finds Friday was the tribal print romper! Lots of you said you loved it and wanted to see how I would style it... so here you go! I played up the tribal print with a safari jacket and echoed the x pattern in the print with these amazing Prabal Gurung for Target shoes! Then I added a second more colorful tribal print with the scarf and a super fun statement necklace to add interest! I don't really like strapless clothing but I'll buy it anyway and just wear it with a jacket or sweater.

People always ask me if I ever wear sweats. I admit, I do dress up a lot but I love my comfy clothes as much as the next girl! So I thought I'd show you what a casual day in the life of Lindsey looks like!

I don't normally work on Wednesday's but I'm working today because I'm off on Saturday! We are going camping this weekend for my brother's fiance's birthday! I'm so excited! As high maintenance as I am I still love getting away from it all! It's so relaxing not having to worry about hair and makeup and all the busyness!

I want to say a very special Happy Birthday to Monica! It's not until tomorrow but I couldn't wait! She is an amazing woman and a big supporter of Thrift and Shout! Love you girl! So happy to have you in our lives!

This outfit was from a couple of weeks ago before I got my hair cut. I got these Prabal Gurung shoes along with the heels I had on yesterday and 2 other pairs from Target for around $10 each! 4 pairs of cute spring shoes for only $40! So essentially, I put this entire outfit together for the price of what these shoes were originally! I love Target!

I also love this Banana Republic top! Turquoise is my favorite color to wear because it makes my eye color pop! Banana Republic makes cute little dressy tops and I seem to find a lot of them at thrift stores!

Happy Monday Everyone!

For the third weekend in a row I got to do something fun and creative! The salon I work at had a hair show and I got to do makeup on some of the models! This is what I wore to the show.

My husband (who is great at fashion) was skeptical when I got these pants. And I agree with him that they could go ghetto very easily! That's why I chose to pair them with some classic pieces.

I've been wanting these heels from Target for a while now. They were $30 but I got them on clearance last week for $10! So glad I waited! I couldn't have worn them earlier anyway since it's been so cold!

Just had another exciting weekend!
On Sunday I held a clothing sale at my house and invited some friends to come over and shop! I had 5 rolling racks with dresses, jackets, and tops. Then I had our sectional sofa covered in pants, skirts, and sweaters. I had about 20 people come out and we just had a great time! It has always been my dream to have my own re-sale clothing store just like my Grandma did so this felt like I was living my dream! I'm definitely planning on doing it again!

It's Wednesday, it's nearing 80 degrees here in Ohio! Yay! I have so much work to get done today but as usual I am so distracted! Bravo is showing a Dukes of Melrose marathon and they are mesmerizing me with their vintage couture! Then my normally elusive cat has decided he wants to be cuddly. It happens so frequently it's a shame to pass up! Then just out of the blue the biggest crack of thunder made me jump out of my seat- and it's not even raining! Wish me luck, I'm going to need it!

My Weekend Cont'd: Music Video Shoot

I had such an incredible weekend I had to break it up into several posts! So this is part 2!

On Saturday after the Goodwill Prom Event I went to help my friend Heather Evans with her music video shoot. I've featured Heather on the blog before. She has modeled for me on the news and she is also a super talented singer/songwriter! Heather uses her talents on a regular basis to help the fight against human trafficking. She recently recorded a song called Sweet Princess that is all about human trafficking and the hope that God has to offer people is those types of desperate situations. So the video that they were making was for her Sweet princess song and then they were also making a mini documentary on human trafficking and a video on the behind the scenes of making of the music video. A lot of work for 2 days! Heather had me do her makeup and style her for the video which I love to do!

This is the old warehouse where they shot the video. It is normally $2,000 per day to rent but they were able to get it for free! It was pretty incredible because everything was donated to make this video from food to port-a-potties, furniture, clothes, everyone's time, etc.!

This was the main room that they staged for the shoot. It is supposed to look like a place where someone caught in human trafficking might be staying. A lot of times they have run away from home and don't have many resources.

This is the director and mastermind behind this amazing project, Rick Green. I have so much respect for this man's heart and talents. He blew me away this weekend!

I used Radiant brand lipstick in Park Avenue on Heather because Radiant gives a portion of their proceeds to help fight human trafficking! I thought it was appropriate!

When Princess Ellie entered this dark and hopeless room everyone watching started to tear up. We knew it was just a video but the symbolism was impossible to ignore.

We got to watch what they were filming on this monitor which was pretty cool!

They did an interview with this amazing woman who had been trafficked herself. It was heartbreaking listening to her story.

This is Connie. She works with an organization that helps with human trafficking. They interviewed her for the documentary.

It was freezing cold and exhausting but a truly incredible experience! It was really fascinating to be behind the scenes and see how a music video is made! It was such an honor to work along side so many talented people for such a worthy cause. I wish I could do stuff like this everyday!

I will definitely post a link to the video when it is all finished- it will probably take about a month!

Goodwill Prom Shop Event

I had the most incredible weekend!

First, on Saturday morning I got to be the guest of honor at Goodwill for their Prom Shop event! Goodwill had nearly 1,000 dresses for people to choose from for this special event. I was there to offer fashion advice and help everyone find their perfect dress! It was so much fun! I think dressing people is one of my favorite things to do! It's like playing barbies but for real!

This is Meg and her mom from New Albany. They were my favorite people I worked with all day! Meg tried on about 10 dresses but ended up going with my pick- a red gown with some sparkle on the bodice! Yay! She was so sweet, she came back and thanked me for my help! It was an honor!

What a fun day! Thank you to Goodwill for inviting me to be there! I just think it's so cool that girls don't have to spend a fortune to get an amazing dress to wear for the big dance! That is something I am very proud to be a part of!
