the ten euro dress

2014-01-15T16:41:00.001-08:00

Here's a quick post of what I wore today before I run off to my Italian language class and Hot Yoga.

I bought this vintage dress while in Italy this summer at an outdoor antique market in Moncalieri. This perfect indian dress was only 10 Euro from a vintage clothing booth. I love it because it makes for an effortlessly cool outfit by throwing on some chelsea boots, strappy sandals, a floppy hat, ethnic jewelry or some big shades.

The vintage tuled handbag is one I bought at a garage sale last year for $2, the vintage indian bangle is a hand-me-down gift from my grandma and the boots are Topshop.

Gotta go...off to italian!

Also, huge thanks to my Norwegian foreign exchange sister, Nora, for taking these awesome photos today!

Back in Black...

...And cream—well, and a few golds.

Anyways, the point is, I'm back to bloggin' yo!

My last post was April 2013 and even then my blogging wasn't as consistent as it should have been.

So, as one of the bullets on my list of New Year's resolutions, I will be bringing my thrifty ensembles to the web at least twice a week.

I just barely caught the sun to get some photos for my first 2014 post today. My 16 year old brother (who took many of my previous blog photos) and his friend (with his new T3i in hand) snapped these photos for me today. I'd say they did a rad job!

English Rose Garden

2013-04-08T18:00:00.000-07:00

How beautiful is my mom's rose garden? Right now is the most fruitful I have ever seen it. There must be 100 roses in there!

Today I'm wearing a very thrifty outfit:

The very Jimi Hendrix-esque velvet blazer is a hand-me-down from my mom,

I bought the white blouse at a Catholic Charities thrift store in Vegas,

The wonderful vintage pants were given to me by my awesome vintage-collecting aunt,

And I just picked up these chelsea boots for $10 and elephant purse for $2 at Savers in Vegas.

Ciao!

Happy Spring Everyone!

Today I'm wearing head to toe thrift:

The vintage hat was a gift to me from my boyfriend, my mom bought the vintage necklace for me at a thrift store in Palm Springs, the black lace dress was $12 at a thrift store in Madison, Wisconsin, the saddle shoes were purchased at Savers in Reno, NV last year, and I picked up this vintage handbag at a garage sale this year for $1.50.

P.S. I submitted this outfit to the thrift outfit contest over at Thrift Store Runway. They host a contest each month with 5 winners who get either $100 each or $500 each if they receive 50+ entrants. So head on over to your nearest thrift store, consignment store, or garage sale and whip together some thrifty outfits to win some CA$$$H.
Happy thrifting!

YoOoo everyone!

I just got home from a nice getaway weekend in Utah. Although the fresh mountain air was lovely, my desert-rat self is happy to back in 80 degree Nevada weather.

As mentioned a few posts ago, i'm now working at Anthropologie, which is more like a source of an expense than an income for me as I've been making use of that employee discount quite a bit lately. This dress is one I bought with my discount at the Fashion Show Mall's Free People last friday. It is sooo lovely and butter-soft. Definitely a must-have dress for this spring/summer.

The coat i'm wearing is a Roxy one that I bought at a thrift store in Reno last year. It is the perfect thickness and looks so good over everything. You can see me wearing it in the post Nature Walk.

My mom bought me these fun Betsey Johnson over-the-knee socks a couple christmases ago and the boots are from Target.

2013-02-14T17:31:00.001-08:00

As promised, here's my festive little Valentine's ensemble from today. My brother was going to take my photos but he'd rather eat sushi with his friends (weird, right?) and before I knew it, the daylight was too dim for photo taking. So I opted for this "self portrait" for lack of better words. I posted it on my Instagram as well. If you aren't following me already, go check out my insta at @karinastanton.

I'm wearing: a floral silk pajama shirt from savers thrift store, a striped shirt on sale from urban outfitters, a skirt just bought with my employee discount from urban outfitters, and a vintage necklace and cashmere jacket given to me by my grandma.

I'm Back!

2013-02-13T14:59:00.003-08:00

Hey guys, so I really need to start blogging again. With 5 classes and 2 jobs, my life has been a bit hectic to say the least but i'm going to try to start squeezing in some time to share some of my latest thrift finds as well as the new gems i've been picking up with my employee discount from Anthropologie, Free People and Urban Oufitters. Keep your eyes peeled for some new posts that will be popping up in the near future.

Next up:Valentines Day. Call me corny but I love to dress in subtle cremes, pinks, and reds for Valentines Day and so dammit, that's what i'm going to continue to do.

Oh! And for the time being, go check out this rad interview Thrift Store Runway so kindly decided to do with me: http://thriftstorerunway.com/features/interview-with-karina-stanton

Anthropologie

2012-12-09T16:47:00.003-08:00

Exciting news... I'm now an employee at Anthropologie!

Today was my first day on the job and I wore this adorable brown dress that is sure to be just one of the many beautiful clothes I'll acquire while working here. I love the dresses at Anthro because they have that excellent attention to detail & quality that many of my vintage pieces have. This dress, for example, has three different layers: the top layer, a layer of tulle, and a last layer of lining... they're built to last.

The purse is a vintage one I bought at a garage sale this weekend for $1 along with some other really great vintage pieces. And my mom bought the ballet flats new at a garage sale for me a few months ago.

The Subject of a Project

2012-12-04T11:39:00.000-08:00

One afternoon, during the Thanksgiving weekend, a friend of mine named Taylor met up with me at my house to take photos for her photojournalism class. The project was to create a video/slideshow of someone with an interesting talent or hobby. I was so flattered to have been chosen for my thirfty hobby as the subject of this project. As you'll see below, I showed her around my room, closets, and, of course, the ivy wall in which I take many blog photos.

Enjoy!

Oh, and follow Taylor on Tumblr here.

Thanksgiving 2012

2012-11-25T22:43:00.001-08:00

I hope everyone had a delicious Thanksgiving this year!

Here are a few photos of my Thanksgiving day.

There are no food pictures because I was too busy eating all the deliciousness...

I opted for a comfortable & festive ensemble for Thanksgiving, a thrifted skirt & a brown thermal borrowed from my sister.

My mom had these table decorations sprinkled across the table, which she made out of vintage velvet & real acorn tops that had fallen from trees.

Happy Halloween

2012-10-31T19:16:00.002-07:00

Happy Halloween!

This is what I wore to school today. I wanted to wear something for the holiday but I didn't want to go as far as being one of the few brave souls walking campus in full-on Halloween garb so I opted for a subtle nod to the day in this ensemble. I thought it looked candy corn-ish. Anyways the vintage dress is from a store in Madison, WI called ReThreads that I bought for somewhere around $15. The witchy looking vintage shoes were recently purchased at a Desert Industries thrift store in Vegas for $8.

I hope you all have a splendid evening!

90s Kid

2012-10-30T15:09:00.001-07:00

The 90s child in me was so stoked to find tattoo chokers on The Cobra Snake & so I couldn't resist stocking up on them in every color! I love this preppy little vintage skirt I bought for a few bucks at Ragstock in Madison a 5 years ago; it can be worn in with so many different styles of outfits. The jean shirt was thrifted I believe and the white shirt is one that i'm not quite sure that I like. I bought it about six years ago and have kept it in the depths of my shirt drawer for the past few years but today I thought it went well with the look of this outfit. Who knows maybe it'll end up at Goodwill in a week—I haven't quite decided its fate....

As you may have noticed, I got my hair freshly cut today. I had her lighten up the weight of my hair around my face with some layers and it feels soo much better. When I made my appointment, I was so set on getting my hair cut & colored like Brigitte Bardot but then chickened out. It would have been to much $$$ and maintenance to keep up with. It would have also taken for-ev-er to get my hair back to its au natural color. Anyways, I like my natural color & I can thank the good ole sun for saving me money with these natural highlights.

Mixtape Monday::Sleep Tight

2012-10-29T21:25:00.000-07:00

As noted in my most recent post, it has been a busy past several days for me so for this week's Mixtape Monday & I have hardly had time to just relax. So, to get me in the mood to unwind this week, I've selected tracks from a large playlist I have had on my itunes account & that I have kept adding to over the past few years. That playlist is called "Sleepy" and it's my go-to place for music for relaxing.

So grab some hot tea, slip into your coziest pajamas,

and unwind to these eight tracks this week.

Sailing Home

2012-10-29T20:16:00.001-07:00

I went out on the lake with my dad, brother, and Jeepers this afternoon. A peaceful little boat ride was just what I needed after working all weekend, having taken two exams today & one exam coming up on Wednesday.

After my brother asked if I wanted to go on the lake with him & my dad, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to wear this nautical vintage shirt I bought for $3 at a Garage Sale in Santa Monica last September. The vintage shorts aren't shown in much detail in this post but they too have a bit of a nautical feel to them... see them in more detail in this post. I bought the shorts at a thrift store about a year ago for somewhere around $6 I believe. My mom bought the black flats for me brand new from a Garage Sale. My aunt gave me the adorable little parasol & the vintage scarf was my grandma's.

******************************

A calming playlist for Mixtape Monday is definitely in the works in the next hour so stay posted.
