I have always been a fan of Heart. Ann and Nancy Wilson are the ultimate women rockers with a long list of hits (Barracuda being my personal favorite). The Wilson sisters are now reaching out to a new generation with the CD Baby Guitars by Nancy Wilson and the book Dog & Butterfly, a collaborative effort both written and illustrated by Ann and Nancy.

Baby Guitars is a collection of acoustic lullabies designed for children, but enjoyable by ALL ages. The music is awesome and I can see many people without kids buying this for their own enjoyment. I'm actually not a big fan of instrumental acoustic guitar, but really enjoyed listening to this CD. It is available exclusively at Amazon.com.

Dog & Butterfly is a charming children's book. It is being released at the 30th anniversary of Heart's double platinum Dog & Butterfly album. This adorable book tells the story of a little puppy who loves chasing butterflies with his litter mates. The sisters have also recorded a new version of the title song Dog & Butterfly that is available for download only with the purchase of the book from Amazon. Although I wasn't a big fan of the story, I enjoyed the beautiful illustrations, as did my 18-month-old nephew. He is already a big lover of puppies and liked the puppies in the book as well as the bright, beautiful butterflies.

Warning: Do NOT browse through this book on an empty stomach! I made the mistake of doing that and think I started to drool a little. There are so many fantastic recipes in this book - from the simple to the fancy. It has a number of sections including breakfast items, pastries, pies, cookies, drinks, "Street Food & Chocolate in Harmony" and more. One recipe that sounds amazingly good to me is Veg-Out Chocolate Cornflake Wraps. You make a crepe-like wrap, spread it with a chocolate-hazelnut spread, choppped brazil nuts, cornflakes and coconut - then roll it up! I haven't tried any of the recipes yet, but plan to when I get a spare hour or two - I wish I had Max Brenner here to just make them for me! One of the things that is cool about the book also leads to my one criticism of it. Each recipe has an accompanying page of either illustration or photograph. The illustrations are really cool "artsy" compilations, but it means that when a recipe has one of these pieces of art next to it there is NO photograph, which I really would like to see. I'm thinking this book would make a great Christmas gift for a chocolate lover on your list!

Use Leftover Halloween Candy in These Yummy Recipes

Last year after Halloween I posted the cookie recipe below, which is a great way to use up any "extra" Halloween candy. Besides the recipe below, I have found one more use. Cut up the candy into small (i.e. chocolate chip sized) pieces and add them to pancake batter. Not the healthiest breakfast in the world,but super delicious!

In this cookie recipe, the candy bars will melt into the cookies and end up being VERY yummy!

1 1/4 C. flour
3/4 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 C. butter, softened
1/2 C. sugar
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla
1 C. any type chocolate candy bar, cut into 1/2" pieces

1. Preheat oven to 325 F.
2. Mix flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside.
3. In large bowl, beat butter and sugar on medium speed and until fluffy and smooth, about 30 seconds.
4. Blend in egg and vanilla.
5. Reduce mixer speed and add flour mixture, mixing just until flour is incorporated.
6. Gently mix in candy bar pieces.
7. Drop batter by large tablespoons on baking sheets. Bake for approximately 8 minutes, watching to prevent burning.
8. Remove while warm to prevent sticking and cool on wire racks.
