Do I Need a Smartphone?

Sometimes I think I'm the only person without a Smartphone. I'm not sure if that makes me dumb or smart, and honestly, I'm not sure I want to find out. I have a good enough phone that gets decent service here, I can take and send photos, and I can send and receive texts. What else do I need?

Everywhere you look, there's a new app out for something or another, claiming to make your life easier in myriad ways -- but do they really? Or do they just tie us in to another gadget that eats up our time, and takes us away from things we really should be doing?

I don't get out much and can't see needing access to my email or Facebook when I'm running errands, so why do I need a Smartphone? What apps are out there that would benefit me, things that are handy to have when away from the computer, or that aren't accessible there?

This is a serious plea. If you swear by your Smartphone, give me your best pitch. What apps can't you live without?

Slice the Pie - Make Money Online While Listening to Music

Listen to music clips, have an influence on new music, and make money online ... what's not to like about Slice the Pie?

I haven't seen anyone post about this in any of the blogs that I follow and I'm really surprised. Before signing up yesterday I did a search and didn't see any negative remarks about it, nothing to indicate it might be a scam. Slicethepie has been around for several years and does pay out regularly so it seems legitimate; right now they pay twice a week with a $10 minimum.

Once you sign up, click 'scout' to listen to music clips and leave a comment about how you liked or did not like it, then give it a number rating from 1-10. You can earn up to a maximum of $ .20 per rating and even though I'm only earning $ .06 - .07 each right now, I still earned about a buck my first day, just by listening to music for a few minutes. How cool is that? I'll likely earn more per rating as my Slicethepie rank increases, so I'm definitely going to stick it out. One of my referrals said that she's been earning $ .12 per review already!

Tip: Shortly after joining, you'll be asked which music genres you like to listen to, so choose as many as possible in order to have more reviews available. When it says it is out of reviews, just refresh the page to catch more music clips as they are listed throughout the day.

I think this is a neat concept, one I haven't seen before. Clicking buttons and filling out surveys can be tedious and boring. With Slice the Pie, you can put a little fun into your online earning endeavors as you jam to the music while doing it!

I joined Curves when I lived in NC and loved it! The workouts aren't hard and each station only last a few seconds so even if it's not your favorite machine, you can get through it easily for just that short period.

Molly and Jethro helped me sponsor a contest for $25 to be given to the winner's favorite shelter or pet rescue. The giveaway winner was just chosen by random.org and it's one of my favorite pet-loving people - Lyn Lomasi!

Lyn is a long-time pet lover who has rescued several small animals and more recently a stray dog her family found out in the cold. Buddy has his own facebook page too, so make sure to stop by and say hi!

Lyn and her children spend a lot of time at her local shelter, volunteering to play with the dogs and cats who otherwise don't get a lot of attention. I'm excited that she was the winner and know that she'll be happy to be able to provide a bit of monetary support to her favorite pet rescue in addition to giving of herself.

Since Lyn received help with Buddy's neutering and vaccinations, she said she wants to give back to Dumb Friends League, an animal welfare organization that's been operating in Denver since 1910.

This was a lot of fun, and Molly and Jethro say they want to do it again. Since we all know who the bosses are around here, I'd say it's a safe bet you'll see another contest down the road a bit.
