A 1957 Ferrari Testa Rossa racecar sold at a California auction Saturday for a total of $16.4 million, the highest amount ever paid for any car at auction. There have been 100s of stunning autos in Monterey-Carmel for the Concours D’Elegance this week…what a treat it’s been to oogle at them them…and their owners! Being priviledged to have moved here back when it was “affordable,” then to see home prices triple and crash, and knowing the financial state of our country and so many of its citizens…it’s baffling where someone would GET $16.4 million, to pay for a car! Guess I’ll just have to sell a bunch more books…

Mardi Gras memories

An email from a long-time Cajun friend today brought back memories of some wild times with Turk and his Louisiana clan, not to mention his pet alla-ma-gator, Fifi! One time Turk put a float into the Mardi Gras parade… just a flatbed farm truck with a lot of friends on the back, tossing out wooden dubloons and sucking cider from kegs equipped with surgical tubing! Turk was driving…and said to me “Ya know what, Liam…this damn truck ain’t got no brakes!” That sure added to the excitement of the day… but then, every day’s fun when Turk is involved! Stuff to write into my books, fo’ sure!

Great fun following a Facebook page REMEMBER IN ALBUQUERQUE WHEN… and noted that I was weatherman and Mr. Fortune there on KOAT-TV years ago under the name Bill McCurry…no one in New Mexico understood “Liam” as a name. But I got a jolt when Manny Baca added to the link: “I remember when they caught him picking his nose on camera during Dialing for Dollars.. Ah live TV!” Drat!! And more than 2,500 current and former Albuquerqueans have jumped onto the page in the past couple of days.
