Bring Back Shortland Street!

Between 1994 - 2000 and in 2003 New Zealand's longest running soap Shortland Street screened on ITV, but where is it now??

As much as I love Home & Away (& sometimes Neighbours), I miss NZ's Shortland Street!

Whilst the show did used to be cringeworthy, it has much improved since 2007 and i think it's time that it came back!

The storylines are strong, the acting has improved tenfold and the general look of the show is world class!

It's not that hard to catch up on (maybe a 1 hour launch episode explaining some crucial info about it's current storylines) but it would be great for the UK to see a Kiwi soap!

Spencer

Calvin and Leo are trying to make Spencer feel a little happier by suggesting that they do things together like go to the aquarium; Spencer doesn’t want to listen though, and just wants to see Warren again.

Spencer goes out, and meets up with Ash in the village.

Ash convinces Spencer to sell The Loft to him, and Spencer now just has to go home and tell Calvin that he’s made a decision about The Loft.

Calvin seems quite surprised when Spencer tells him that he wants to sell The Loft, and isn’t too sure what to make of Spencer’s sudden decision to sell.

Spencer tries to argue that it’s what Warren would have wanted, and Calvin ultimately agrees to help Spencer sell The Loft.

Hannah and Darren

The Inbetweeners: Waste of time

People have been falling over themselves to heap praise on The Inbetweeners. It seems to be the supposedly smart indie-kid choice of show, sitting snugly beside Skins. It's the Muse fan equivalent of Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps and Coming of Age (aka The Worst Shows Ever Made).

I've been doing my best to avoid it because, like all shows as popular as this, with immediately used catchphrases (like 'Clunge'), I invariably hate them on sight. Instead, I've stayed away, let Ver Kids have their fun and stuck to watching a whole bunch of other stuff. Then, I took the plunge.

What hits you about the show initially, is just how old the main characters are. There they are... a bunch of grown men walking around in school uniform eyeing up barely-pubescent girls in short skirts.

The President of Syria has issued a historic invitation to Barack Obama. In an exclusive interview with Sky News he invited the US President to come to Damascus to discuss peace in the region.

Bashar al Assad told Sky's Middle East correspondent Dominic Waghorn he wanted to meet the US President and asked Sky News to relay the invitation to Mr Obama.

When asked when the visit could take place, he said it was up to the Americans to decide.

Syria’s First Lady tells Sky News she is ready to welcome the Obamas

Sky News has spoken exclusively to Syria’s First Lady, Asma al Assad, and has heard that she is ready to host President Obama and his wife Michelle in Damascus.

The First Lady’s comments are the latest in a series of signs that US-Syrian relations are improving after years of tension. Speaking to Sky News’ Middle East Correspondent, Dominic Waghorn, she said of any future visit of the Obamas to Syria: “I can see myself hosting them in Damascus. In the old town, meeting with people, getting a sense of how we live, who we are and what Syria’s about.” The British-born First Lady also talked about the sense of optimism she believes exists in her country, and said that in part, it is due to the new American administration.

Highlights from the interview can be seen on skynews.com and throughout the day on Sky News.

This summer, BBC Four presents a season of programmes looking at the complex biological war that rages beneath our skin.

The season of biology programmes – a mix of dramas, documentaries and archive footage – provides a fascinating look at the biological discoveries that have shaped the modern world.

Biology is one of the most influential sciences in the world. Through the years, our understanding of biological matter and life has shaped our attitudes towards religion and the enduring question of where we come from.

BBC Comedy Production and Shazam Productions have been commissioned by BBC One to make a new 90-minute comedy drama which focuses on the earlier years of Peckham's most famous family, the Trotters, it was announced today.

BBC One Daytime will be marking the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of the Second World War this September with a week of special programmes including The Week We Went To War and a new period drama series Land Girls staring Nathaniel Parker and Christine Bottomley.

Tribute to Mollie Sugden

Tribute has been paid to Mollie Sugden, who has died aged 86, by the BBC's Head of Comedy.

Mollie Sugden was best known for playing Mrs Slocombe in the BBC One sitcom Are You Being Served?

Mark Freeland, Head of Comedy, said: "It is with sadness that the BBC learns of Mollie Sugden's death.

"She will be remembered as a truly funny and instantly recognisable actress – a star of 1970s British comedy.

"She lit up the screens in both The Liver Birds and, most famously, Are You Being Served?

"Her daftly enormous purple rinse and never-to-be-forgotten catchphrase are the stuff of comedy legend and she takes her place as one of TV's iconic funny women."

Supersizers Go... great guns!

Cookery shows on television are, by and large, utterly pointless. Most people you meet have never made a meal that's been shown on the box. Food shows are there to give you an ideal to aspire to and agree with. They make you want to buy freshly slaughtered piglets from a toothless farmhand in exchange for mending his roof. They make you want to eat scallops, despite the fact that they are like fish sticks, only more expensive and not nearly as satisfying.

That's why Giles Coren and Sue Perkins' show, Supersizers Go... is the perfect cookery programme. You are given precisely zero recipes, you get to laugh at the silly outfits and most of all, get to thrill at the two hosts ripping strips off each other for giggles.

Top Gear - Stuck in neutral?

Top Gear (BBC Two, Sundays), when on form, is pretty much unparalleled on telly. Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, James May... and the ominous Stig, clearly have complete disregard for almost everything, including the cars they test drive.

There's a certain anarchic joy about the way the lads go about their business. It's almost like they've forgotten about the car element to their show to give everyone a grown-up version of Tiswas (no, I'm not talking about O.T.T., the failed Tiswas late-nighter). As such, the show dragged people who don't even like cars along for the ride. However, the latest series is showing something of a worrying trend. Namely, that it's rubbish.

BB10: Weekend recap and rant

Praise be, Sree left on Friday with just over 85% of the public vote, and I for one am very glad he’s gone. But how weird is Freddie being now… again? His crying jag that we saw in last night’s highlights show over his “indiscretion” about Kris and Sophie’s ‘relationship’ was just odd. Why would he get that upset?

In fact, a lot of the male housemates have done a lot of blubbing over the weekend; Rodrigo’s going a bit OTT on the “my life’s ruined” front and Charlie’s drunken weep was just sorta funny. I know that’s a bit cruel but it was. When he said, “I’m upset y’know” I had to laugh. Like it wasn’t obvious that he was upset.

Deleted scene from Groucho Marx Does Birmingham

How childish and playground gang-like are Lisa and Kris and now Karly too?? In last night’s highlights show, we saw how, after gobbing off at Halfwit, Lisa had her say then refused to listen to what Freddie had to say. She was then backed up by Kris who said over and over again, “I’m not listening to you Freddie” like a three year old. The pair then started making “la la la” noises so they couldn’t hear what Halfwit was saying before stomping off into the house with Karly in tow. Jeez, grow up you sad acts!

Freddie celebrates finally passing that motion while Karly explains how big it was.

Oh dear, I think the lack of cigs is getting to Karly; she’s very testy isn’t she? And she took out some of that anger and pent up nicotine withdrawal on Halfwit in last night’s Channel 4 highlights show...

It was a real battle of Who’s In Charge of This Task when Karly wanted to rehearse and Halfwit wanted to listen again to the song they had to sing. If there’d been any snow around, it would’ve turned into a potential p***ing contest!

Josh is desperate to impress his new friend Dave

The camping trip comes to an end

Hannah and Nancy have a falling out

Josh and Dave

Josh and Dave are off for a night out at the SU Bar, with Josh out to try and impress his new friend.

Things aren’t going too well for either of them with the women, when Dave tries to come on to Hannah though this forces Gilly to snap, and Gilly tells Dave to keep away from his sister.

Josh points out that she’s his sister, not Gilly’s; Hannah doesn’t want to listen to either of them though, and is fed up with people thinking she needs looking after all the time.|

Dave is impressed when Josh finally manages to get someone’s number, it turns out that the number isn’t actually for Josh though, it’s for Gilly.

Theresa, Newt, Lauren, Anita, and Ricky
