We’re planning our little river trip again and we’d love to have you join us…BBSD7! Let’s do this!

Come join us for the 7th Annual Impros Blythe Bound Smack Down (“BBSD”), May 19th and 20th 2012 at Twin Palms Resort, Blythe CA. Everyone is welcome.

Once again we’re going to do our best to top last year’s get together. We have several great companies stepping up to help sponsor the free dinner Saturday night, as well as providing a huge list of great raffle prizes. With the great response we received from our sponsors as well as all of our friends that came out last year, we will again have great prizes to give away, with more expected to be announced later. As a result, we’ll be able to help provide support to this year’s charity- The Riverbend Volunteer Fire Company in Blythe. We are hoping to do what we can to help support the local Blythe public servants- afterall, with all of the Pyro’s we get it can’t hurt to have them on our side!

We’d like to start by showing our appreciation to the companies that have stepped up to support BBSD and the charity. It’s these types of companies that help keep our industry going. With these companies all contributing to BBSD7, we will have prizes totaling well over $3,000.

Impros Blythe Bound Smack Down is simply a fun get together. A fun weekend at the river for all of us to ride, meet, break bread and enjoy a day at the river with friends. Also a chance for us to give personal thanks- if it weren’t for great people like you, Impros wouldn’t exist. It doesn’t matter if you ride a stand up, or prefer a sit down, bring it! If you want to run buoys with friends (old and new), bring it! If you just want to hang out and chow on some free food, WE got it! Impros will be hosting free dinner for Saturday night for everyone in attendance. There are full hook-ups at this camping resort, and plenty of hotels available a few miles south in Blythe.

Once again, IPD (http://www.ipdjetskigraphics.com/) will be designing another great looking BBSD7 T-shirt. To keep us from ordering too many, we are asking that you pre-order your shirt. You can do this anytime, by visiting the following link: http://impros.com/store/index.php/apparel.html. When ordering, you can choose whether you want the shirt and ticket shipped to you before the event, or if you’d rather have us bring it to the event for you. The shirts will be printed two weeks before the event, and only a limited number will be available after the pre-order. The shirts and tanks are all $15, and as usual come with one free raffle ticket. Extra raffle tickets can be purchased when you order your shirt, plus we’ll have them available at BBSD. As it gets closer to the raffle, we’ll announce the prizes, but the prize list is already over $3,000 strong. Just a reminder, a portion of every t-shirt sold and the proceeds from the raffle tickets will go to the BBSD charity. Thanks again to all of our great supporters for such a great pool of prizes.

Ok, now the dirty little details:
1) This is NOT in any way, an organized event or sanctioned day. It is simply a “River Trip” for us, and we’re telling our friends. A way for everyone to meet new faces and say hello to our old friends too. PWC riding can be EXTREMELY dangerous! Some people, like us, even get hurt trying to burn meat on the BBQ. Impros, the contributing sponsors, Twin Palms Resort, or any of us for that matter are not responsible for your actions on the water, the beach or anywhere else at BBSD. We accept ZERO responsibility for injuries, death or too much fun resulting from riding on the river, drinking, or whatever you do to cut loose on your weekend…. Ride at your own risk!
2) Impros does not put out buoys and are not responsible for any that coincidently show up in the water. In the past, there have always been a few riders that bring some, but it’s at their own free will, and if you choose to ride around them, it’s at your own risk. It’s the Colorado River, and you’re free to do what you want (for the most part anyway), and we hope that you have a great, safe time, but act responsibly. Nevertheless, it’s our advice that you should bring and wear a helmet if you choose to ride on anyone’s course.
3) We have also spoken with the owner of the resort, and he is excited to have us back. All he asks is that everyone entering his property check in at the office/general store and get either a day-use parking or camping permit.
We look forward to seeing you there!

RED BULL X-FIGHTERS GLEN HELEN POTTER IS KING OF THE HILLS American Todd Potter was the king of the hills [...]

RED BULL X-FIGHTERS GLEN HELEN
POTTER IS KING OF THE HILLS
American Todd Potter was the king of the hills at the second stop of the $1 million 2012 Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour on Saturday, mastering the biggest and most challenging course in the history of the sport in front of an enthusiastic Southern California crowd in Glen Helen.

SAN BERNARDINO, California – Todd Potter was the master of the 60-foot high step-up that scared half of the field away from the biggest hill jump ever included in a Red Bull X-Fighters course. Potter, hailing from Temecula, California, an hour from Glen Helen, beat Frenchman Thomas Pagès in a thrilling duel of fearless aerial specialists under the blazing heat of Southern California. American Wes Agee also thrived on the hill-filled freeride-influenced track, getting a superb third place in his first-ever competition and winning the Swatch Best Move.

Potter, Pagès and Agee dazzled the afternoon crowd of 15,000 with their breathtaking flips and back flips up what all the riders agreed was the most intimidating step-up jump ever. Many of the favorites, including defending champion Dany Torres of Spain and 2012 championship leader Levi Sherwood of New Zealand, opted to skip the awe-inspiring step-up and paid a heavy price for that with the judges, getting knocked out in early rounds against the bolder riders who were not afraid to tackle the beast. It was a risky leap more than 60 feet up to the top of a cliff – and anyone falling mere inches short of the landing on the rim could end up tumbling straight back down the steep hill.

“It’s a dream come true,” said Potter, who clearly had the crowd on his side throughout the three knock-out rounds with his flashy riding style and charismatic flirtations with the spectators. Potter said the courage paid off for the top-three in Glen Helen and challenged his rivals to learn how to jump on big step-ups if they want to win on tracks like Glen Helen: “I think they need to suck it up and do it, that’s the bottom line. You can’t just circle and hit a ramp and come back and hit another ramp. This takes you out of your element and puts you into the real world of FMX and its roots.”

Pagès had thrilled the crowd with body varial moves in the quarter-finals and semi-finals but made a mistake on the jump in the final and had to abort it. “I was getting tired and just missed it,” he said.

Torres ended up in eighth place and Sherwood was seventh after the two pre-event favorites bowed out in early rounds without attempting the step-up. Potter now leads the tour with 135 points ahead of Sherwood (120), who won the opening round in Dubai (UAE). Chile’s Javier Villegas, riding with a separated shoulder, just missed the podium with fourth place and is in third overall with 120 points heading into the third 2012 stop in Istanbul, Turkey on June 16. The tour continues in Madrid on July 20, Munich on Aug. 11 and Sydney on Oct. 6.

Results, Glen Helen: 1. Todd Potter (USA), 2. Thomas Pagès (FRA), 3. Wes Agee (USA), 4. Javier Villegas (CHL), 5. Eigo Sato (JAP), 6. Rob Adelberg (AUS), 7. Levi Sherwood (NZL), 8. Dany Torres (ESP), 9. Maikel Melero (ESP), 10. Nick Dunne (USA), 11. Martin Koren (CZE).

As part of the Red Bull Signature Series, the event will be televised nationally on Saturday, May 12 on NBC Sports Network at 9 p.m. PT/midnight ET and on Saturday, May 26 on NBC at 2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT.

Greetings!

These are some of the best days at Pala Raceway. Warm weather along with overcast skies means the dirt stays perfect almost without having to water! We took some major steps to repair the facility after getting rain three weeks in a row. This means the edges of the tracks have been cleaned up and the VET has been groomed to mellow out some of the lips and landings that got dug out from all the mud.We have also captured a ton of our good dirt that washes to the bottom of the property. It will be getting distributed on the Main Track which will be closed this Monday May 7th. The Vet and Mini tracks will be open Monday though so still tons of great riding! This weekend there are no race events at Pala Raceway so come out and enjoy what we do best! 6 tracks of practice and fun.

Come out on Wednesdays to ride our SUPER TRACK configuration. We link together the Main and the AM tracks to make one SUPER long and fun track. This is Wednesdays only.

Thank you for being a member and see you at the track!

This past weekend marked the LCQ in the Road to Mammoth Qualifier Series. With the rain we got earlier in the week the track was a good amount of rough but the dirt stayed soft so the lines were constantly changing. Check out this fun video we did from the second moto’s.

Austen Scroggins is a young up and coming rider in what we consider a motocross family. Pala Raceway is working with Temecula Motorsports and several of Austen’s sponsors to create a ride day that will have raffles, auctions and tons of riding. The event isn’t until May 13th however a EBAY Auction has already began! Go online and support this rider who spent several weeks in ICU and is slowly but surely making a recovery. It’s on these rare occurrences of severe injury that we all pull together to assist a family with the financial burden of medical care.

Tyler O’Hara, XR1200 Racer – Bartels Harley-Davidson

O’Hara is currently leading the points in the AMA Pro Racing Vance & Hines XR1200 class. This past weekend he raced at Infineon Raceway, his home track, and pulled off a second place finish. The exciting XR1200 series has had three different winners in the three races so far this season. O’Hara has been racing since he was four-years-old in a variety of motorcycle disciplines. He has won titles in motocross, flat track and supermoto and won the XR1200 Race 1 at Indianapolis Motorspeedway in 2011.

Doug Dubach, President – Dubach Racing Development

Since retiring from a long and successful professional motocross racing career, Doug stays busy with DRD in developing exhaust and performance parts for off-road and ATV machines. Dubach Racing has become one of the leaders in exhaust pipe design and manufacturing and Doug can be found at the local Southern California tracks every week testing his latest designs. Recently DRD released a engine relocation kit for the YZ450 to change the way the bike handles.

Ryan Dungey, Motocross/ Supercross, Red Bull KTM

At only 23 years old Ryan has won every title in the sport of motocross. Last year he signed with the Red Bull KTM team for 2012 and he entered another year in the premier class on a new bike that was unproven at a championship level on U.S. soil. Early on it was clear that KTM had a winning program as Dungey scored a main event win and took over the points lead for a brief time. A broken collar bone prevented him from seeing the Supercross Championship through, however, he did return to racing to score a total of four main event wins before setting his sights on the 2012 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship as the title favorite.

Josh Strang, EnduroCross and WORCS Racer – FMF KTM RPM Racing Team Maxxis

The former GNCC Champion tried his hand at Endurocross this past weekend in Las Vegas. This was Strang’s first major race since his doctors cleared him the second time from his leg injury sustained at the last round of the GNCC in 2011. Strang got his feet wet this weekend and picked up some valuable knowledge regarding what it is going to take to be competitive in the series. Earlier in the year Strang did race a couple of WORC’s races before doctors decided that his leg needed more time to heal properly. He is currently 12th in the series after racing only three of the five rounds.
