Couple of days ago I decided to go with android with my HTC HD2. At the time I thought I may have to revert it back to Windows 6.5, But every thing is working 3G, WIFI, GPS…. and battery holds up to a day. I recommend, you should also flash your HTC HD2 phone to Android.

Can the HTC HD2 run Android?
1. Your HTC HD2 can run Android as well as Windows mobile!
2. You can have them both and switch back and forward between them.
3. No hard reset is needed to run Android, no windows mobile data is lost.

How to install Android on HTC HD2?
1. Install HSPL (Hard SPL)
If you have done this before, skip to the step 2.
For T-mobile users only, Read this first:

2. Upgrade your Radio.

3. Download the Android OS files:

After downloading, copy the "Android" folder to the root folder of your storage card.
(Root folder = top level, main folder...)

You are done!
To run android you should first disable "Automatic adjust backlight". (And set the backlight to 100%).
You will find this on windows mobile settings here: settings tab. click on "Sound and display", scroll down to "backlight" and click on it.

Every time you want to start using Android do this:
Go to the android folder on the storage card.
Click on the "CLRCAD.EXE" file, (you will get no action on the screen but its normal).
Click the "HARET.EXE" file to launch Android! (The first time may take up to 10 minutes to run)

When you want to go back to windows mobile:
Soft reset the phone or turn off the phone (long press the power button and choose to turn off) or remove the battery.

Yes….. The sound quality is incredibly good. Yes……. It doesn’t heart your ears when wearing it for a long time. It’s very much soundproof. So nobody can hear you and you can’t hear them. The Microphone gets mute when you push it up and gets turn on when you puts it down (default configuration). You can change you voice when taking. But its USB connected and the sound card is built-in. So you can’t use it with other than you PC.

Dislikes

No Front camera.
Scrolling is not that good compared to iPod-touch. You always open unwanted application. But it’s more responsive and easy to use than my Nokia 5800.
There’s not OS built in application to stop applications in HTC-HD2 from connection to internet via your 3G data connection when there no Wi-Fi connections. (This would have been great if we have unlimited data connection plan for 3G in Sri Lanka)
End-call button in touch screen does not respond very well. If you want to disconnect quickly you have to use the Hardware End-call button.
Sound quality compared to Nokia 5800 is low.
Lot of applications doesn’t have Exit command to terminate them. You have to do it in the task manager. So you’ll always find application running in background.
There’s no easy way to switch between applications. There’s no task bar. In my Nokia 5800, you just have to press and hold the home button for few seconds then you get the task manager and you can select the application and bring it to front. But in HTC-HD2 it takes more steps. A normal user will not even know how to do that.
Facebook application is crappy.
Battery last about 1.5 days in a normal day. If you really use it, it’s about 6 hours.
Drop down list are very had to click and select a value. You have to try couple of times to get it right.
I still did not find a way to select all and delete all contacts in default HTC contacts application.
There’s no built in file search application in File explorer.

Likes

Your phone contacts get sync with your Facebook account and contact image and the birthday is synced back to you phone. This is very cool.
You text messages are grouped under every contact. It’s like using a messenger application.
There’s lots of information about your contacts. Your text messages, emails, twits, Facebook updates and Call history all in one place with easy access.
The touch screen keyboard is like iPod-touch. It’s easy to use. But not that easy to select something when you want to copy and paste.
Camera with 5 MP, 2592 x 1944 pixels, autofocus, dual LED flash and Geo-tagging.
Screen Resolution is 800 by 480.
Home screen is synced with weather status. So if it’s raining you phone is in rainy state.
Local time, regional settings and phone operator settings (MMS, 3G) are setup automatically.
IE and Opera supports Flash and Opera is like a real browser in PC.
Supports DotNet 3.5 and SQL compact server, Lot of the 3rd applications are on Dotnet in HTC-HD2.
The whole phone gets backed up to your windows live account. So even if you delete something like a picture or a text message it’s in you live account.

The first thing you need to know about this phone is, it need to be online all the time. HTC-HD2 always tries to update you FaceBook, Weather, Mail, Twitter, and syncs the whole phone with your windows live account. It doesn’t ask your permission for that and there’s no easy way to disable it. Phone settings like MMS, 3G ext… are automatically set with no user interaction. Time and regional settings are also set automatically. So when you insert the SIM it’s all up and running in few seconds. Lot of third party applications are dotnet 3.5. So you need install dotnet 3.5 compact and SQL server compact to HTC-HD2 as soon as possible.

The Iphone has 3.5” screen while HTC-HD2 has 4.3” but the resolution of HTC-HD2 is far more superior to Iphone.

Iphone: 480 by 320

My new iPod Touch 2G, A good MP3 player….. But not the best sound quality

iPod Touch 2G is good product, because of its great OS. But when you buy an iPod, you expect it to produce better sound quality than a cell phone. Sad truth is that my Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone has superior sound quality than the iPod.

But because iPod Touch has tone of apps that are free and cheap. You want one to play games and to stay connected. But may not use it to listen to music and watch videos (when you have a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic).

Also I heard that FW update to iPod Touch 2G will not give you that superior sound quality

Can't copy 4GB file to a flash drive

If flash drive is formatted in FAT32, the maximum file size for FAT32 is 4 GB (4,294,967,296 bytes). So if the file size is more than 4 GB, you can not copy it to the flash drive.

You will get the following error.

The disk in the destination drive is full. Insert a new disk to continue.
Retry Cancel

If you click Retry, you will get the following:

Cannot copy [filename]: There is not enough free disk space.
Delete one or more files to free disk space, and then try again.
OK

Solution:
Format the flash drive in NTFS.

To enable NTFS on your flash drive:
Go to flash drives device properties/Policies and select Optimize for performance.
This will give you the option NTFS when you are formatting the drive.

Cheangelog noticed so far:

Noticeable speed and response improvements
Better music quality, onscreen touch volume control
Improved browser, faster surfing, fullscreen web has now transparent arrow
Correct icons for the call lists (mobile, fixed, etc.)
The portrait/ landscape switch is pretty fast now
can use volume keys to zoom while taking photos/recording video

If you want something alternative to Apple iphone, Nokia 5800 is the one for you in Sri Lanka. If you take the features in a hardware perspective, I think it’s very much better than Apple iphone.

Here are some better hardware features in Nokia 5800 than Apple iphone.

The iphone is bigger in size and uneasy for one hand grip. Nokia 5800 is designed to fit well into your hands. Being smaller in width, it’s easy to operate single handedly.

Bypass Windows Server 2008 Activation

Stop and disable the SL UI Notification Service.
Removes 3 system32 files : SLLUA.exe, SLUI.exe and SLUINotify.dll. (you will need to set permission to delete these files).
This however does not bypass WGA. All it does is remove the ability for Windows to check if it needs activation and reminding you so.
Backedup The original files with .backup extension in case you need to revert. You will also need to start the SL UI Notification service.

Saving changes is not permitted. The changes that you have made require the following tables to be dropped and re-created. You have either made changes to a table that can't be re-created or enabled the option Prevent saving changes that require the table to be re-created.

To change the Prevent saving changes that require the table re-creation option, follow these steps:

Open SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).
On the Tools menu, click Options.
In the navigation pane of the Options window, click Designers.
Select or clear the Prevent saving changes that require the table re-creation check box, and then click OK.

Note If you disable this option, you are not warned when you save the table that the changes that you made have changed the metadata structure of the table. In this case, data loss may occur when you save the table.

Download Windows Defender
Download Orca, a MSI packages and ISM project files editor.
Install Orca.
Open WindowsDefender.msi in the Orca.
In the Orca’s left pane, select the “CustomAction”.
Right click on the Action CHECK_WGA and select Drop Row.
In the left pane again, select the “Dialog”.
Modify the Attribute for the dialog “CheckWGA” from 2 to 0.
In the Orca’s left pane, select the “ControlEvent”
Select CheckWGA.
Modify the Argument column of the first and second CheckWGA Dialogs to “LicenseAgreement”.
Save the .msi package, do not uses Save As… function to save.
Close Orca and run the Windows Defender installer.
