iPhone 14 Pro always-on screen previewed in new iOS 16 wallpaper details

iPhone 14 Pro rumors are pretty solid when it comes to the new display, which is not only expected to have a new design but also to support an always-on mode. And while previous versions of iOS 16 already had multiple references to a new always-on mode, even the system’s wallpapers have now been updated to take advantage of this new technology.If you’re unfamiliar with an always-on display, this technology allows the system to keep showing some information on the screen like the clock while consuming very little battery power. Some Android smartphones already feature always-on displays, while Apple Watch Series 5 and later also have the same technology.

Even before WWDC 2022, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman had already reported that iOS 16 would be ready for a new always-on mode, which is expected to be exclusive to iPhone 14 Pro models. That’s because this year’s models will reportedly get a new variable refresh rate display that goes down to 1Hz per second. As a result, it should consume less power than current displays.

9to5Mac found multiple references to always-on display support in iOS 16, which corroborates all the iPhone 14 Pro rumors. There’s even an internal mode that Apple uses to test always-on mode in iPhone 13.

iOS 16 wallpapers ready for always-on display

When it comes to Android smartphones with always-on display, the feature works pretty much the same among all of them. You get a black screen with the clock and sometimes widgets. With the new lock screen in iOS 16, it has become pretty clear that the iPhone is likely to follow a similar approach. However, Apple might be working on something beyond that for iPhone 14 Pro.

Based on the internal files of iOS 16 beta 4, 9to5Mac has found that the system wallpapers are now ready for this new always-on display mode. As we previously explained, iOS 16 no longer uses static images as wallpapers. Instead, the new wallpapers are multi-layered vectors rendered in real time.

Now, in addition to the regular vectors, the native wallpapers (such as the default one and the recently added clown fish wallpaper) also have a new state labeled “Sleep,” which has very dark and faded elements. Wallpapers in this state are quite similar to the Apple Watch faces with always-on enabled.

Once the user turns off the screen of the iPhone 14 Pro, the wallpaper will switch to the “Sleep” version. We were able to reproduce the new behavior, which you can see below:

Basically, it seems that Apple will replicate the same effect from the Apple Watch on the iPhone 14 Pro. This means that users will still see their wallpapers in some way even when the screen is turned off. The wallpaper will be displayed at full brightness once the user taps the screen or presses the Power button.

Of course, on a real device, the clock and widgets chosen by the user will also be visible when the screen is “off.”

Apple is expected to introduce four new iPhone models this year. However, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will be the only ones to have a faster chip and a new screen design with a pill-shaped cutout instead of a notch. This year’s Pro models are also rumored to get a new 48-megapixel wide camera capable of shooting 8K video.

iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will also get the biggest front-facing camera upgrade in years with a new larger aperture f/1.9 lens and autofocus for better low light performance.

As for the regular iPhone 14 models, they should be heavily based on the current iPhone 13 hardware with minor camera upgrades, larger batteries, and 6GB of RAM instead of 4GB. The most notable upgrade for the mid-range lineup this year will be the replacement of the “mini” model with a new 6.7-inch screen “iPhone 14 Max.”

Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) Removed from Play and App Store! BGMI Ban?

Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), the rebranded version of PUBG Mobile from Korean game publisher Krafton, has been removed from both Apple and Google app stores in India following a government order, according to sources aware of the development.

A Krafton spokesperson said: “We are clarifying how BGMI was removed from Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store and will let you know once we get specific information”.Google confirmed it has taken the game down from its Play Store in India after informing Krafton. “On receipt of the order, following established process, we have notified the affected developer and have blocked access to the app that remained available on the Play Store in India,” a Google spokesperson said in a statement.

Why has BGMI been delisted on Apple, Google app stores?

While the government is yet to officially comment on why it directed the game to be taken down, the development has come a month after a 16-year old boy allegedly shot his mother because she stopped him from playing “online games like PubG”. This issue was also raised in the ongoing session of Parliament, where the government had said that the Ministry of Home Affairs was examining some of the banned apps appearing with a new avatar but with the same functionalitLast week, Rajya Sabha MP V Vijayasai Reddy had asked if the IT Ministry was taking action against apps like PUBG, adding that “some children have also committed crimes when they were restrained from playing the game”.

To this, Minister of State for Electronics & IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar had responded: “There are various reports and grievances received in Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), conveying that apps that were blocked are appearing with new avatar by using similar sounding names or rebranded with the same functionality. All such reports and grievances have been forwarded to Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the requesting agency, for examination. MeitY follows the due process as defined in the Information Technology (Procedure and Safeguards for Blocking for Access of Information by Public) Rules, 2009.“There was a media report that a child has killed his mother based on PUBG that he has been playing. This is a matter of investigation by LEAs to find the reason. But, the PUBG gaming app was blocked by MeitY in the year 2020 and the PUBG game is not available in India since then,” Chandrasekhar added.Why was PUBG Mobile banned in India earlier?

This is the second time the game has been delisted from app stores in India, with its predecessor PUBG, the popular battle royale game, being banned in the country prior to this.

Tencent Games, a Chinese internet company, was publishing PUBG Mobile in India when the game got banned in the country in 2020, along with 117 other applications believed to be made by companies originating in China, for allegedly being engaged in activities which were “prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order”.

Before the game’s relaunch in India in its rebranded form, the PUBG Corporation, a subsidiary of Krafton, in September 2020 had said it would not authorise the PUBG Mobile franchise to Tencent Games in India, and took over all publishing responsibilities in the counBefore PUBG, the popular short video platform TikTok along with 58 other apps of Chinese origin were banned in India in June 2020 at the height of tensions brewing between India and China at the border.

Apart from the aforementioned devices, Apple has a plethora of other products in the pipeline to be announced throughout 2022. As for the design, the Mac mini is said to have a smaller footprint than the 2020 Mac mini and might feature a sturdy plexiglass top panel with an aluminium frame and a magnetic charging connector. As for the Mac Pro's design, just like the Mac mini, it could also see some design changes by stripping down on the size for a slim profile. Both of these devices are expected to have a decent amount of Thunderbolt ports, USB-A ports along with HDMI and Ethernet ports.

Lastly, a larger-sized iMac could also make a debut this year. As per rumours, this iMac could come with a display size ranging between 27 to 32 inches with mini-LED technology and may feature slim bezels with support for ProMotion and XDR.

Google released Android 13 beta

Now that the Android 13 beta is out, I thought it'd be a good idea to download and install the thing - my job is to test tech, after all, and I wanted to see what upgrades it might bring.So I dutifully booted up a Google Pixel 6 Pro that was ready and waiting in the TechRadar office, enrolled it in the beta program, and settled in to test out the new Google-built software...

...but after doing so, I really don't think you should, especially if you're doing it on your daily smartphone.I had to leave my phone alone for over 120 minutes as it downloaded the 2.14GB file at an excruciating rate, and then installed it even slower - admittedly our office Wi-Fi being awful was no help here.

The said display is wider and shorter than the Galaxy Z Fold4’s expected 6.19-inch display.
The Pixel foldable is expected to debut globally around fall this year.

Google Pixel Notepad is expected to launch before the end of this year. It will be the Mountain View giant’s first-ever foldable phone and will look to take on rivals like Samsung and other new entrants like the Vivo Fold, OPPO Find N and more. Now, industry insider Ross Young claims the Google Pixel Notepad will have a smaller outer display in addition to an inner screen that is similar to the Galaxy Z Fold4.

The Pixel Notepad is rumoured to come with a 5.8-inch outer display, which is wider and shorter than the Galaxy Z Fold4’s expected 6.19-inch display. The two foldables are rumoured to have a similar-sized folding display, but the Pixel Notepad will have a wider aspect ratio than the Fold. This corroborates an earlier leak.

Ross Young has shed some light on the Pixel foldable but he doesn’t have a launch timeline for it just yet. We can speculate the phone may debut alongside the Pixel 7 around fall. Google was originally supposed to launch the Pixel Fold in 2021 but that didn’t happen. However, it looks like Google is back on the foldable project again and will now be called Pixel Notepad apparently.

The Google foldable is expected to cost around $1,400 and is expected to have OPPO Find N style design — wide and short instead of tall and narrow like the Galaxy Z Fold 3. It is likely to come with a Tensor chip, a 12.2MP Sony IMX363 primary camera from the Pixel 5, a 12MP IMX386 ultra-wide-angle lens and two 8MP IMX355s for selfies

Tata Motors has established a multi-fold plan for the Indian EV space, which also includes autonomous driving in the future. While Tata Motors is currently enjoying its dominance in the electric passenger car segment in India, the company is also eyeing to develop next-generation EV platforms to cater to the growing needs of Indian consumers. Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM) division, which is currently responsible for the development of Tata’s EVs, will be heading the strategies for car makers’ EV aspirations.

Tata Motors recently showcased the Curvv and Avinya concept cars. The Avinya concept car is based on a new “Born Electric” skateboard platform that is specifically made for EVs.

Autonomous driving functions in the pipeline

The Tata Curvv concept and the Tata Avinya concept have captured the fancy of many and demonstrate the Indian auto-giants prowess in the automotive sector. The company plans to introduce next-generation platforms to serve as the pillar for its next generation of EV vehicles.

The Tata Curvv and Tata Avinya concepts are especially unique as they will introduce the Gen 2 and Gen 3 electric platforms from Tata Motors. The Tata Avinya concept car is an important piece of the puzzle as the models spawning from this will be capable of incorporating higher levels of autonomous driving. The autonomous driving aspect is being handled by Anand Kulkarni, VP- Product Line and Operations, TPEM division. The Avinya concept and the underlying architecture can utilise Level 3 or higher levels of autonomous driving.

If sufficient demand is estimated, according to Kulkarni, a fully autonomous driving system can also be deployed. However, at the moment, only a handful of cars in the market offer higher levels of autonomous driving. A prime example of this is Tesla cars, which has plans to enter the Indian market.

Ola Electric promises to deliver these new orders from April onwards at the customers’ registered addresses. The Indian startup, headed by Bhavish Aggarwal, has said publicly that it is currently working on ramping up production to meet the overwhelming demand for the Ola S1 Pro premium electric scooter.

The Ola S1 Pro electric scooter from the Indian automotive startup, Ola Electric, was launched last year on August 15th. Ola S1 Pro registered a massive demand owing to its minimalistic modern styling and promising specifications that triggered the value-for-money oriented Indian customer base. However, Ola has had a tough time living up to expectations – delivery delays, post-delivery problems and broken chain of after-sales service, pulling plugs on lower priced vanilla Ola S1 model, as well as delays in rolling out major features have plagued the fate of the Ola electric scooter.

However, the Ola S1 Pro’s current hardware specifications and claimed outputs still remain one of the best in the industry and a difficult bid to bargain with. The scooter offers an 8.5kW motor paired to a 3.97kWh battery and delivers a range of 181km. In terms of features, the Ola S1 Pro offers — single-sided front telescopic forks, rear horizontally-mounted suspension, LED lighting system, generous under-seat storage, and a 7-inch touchscreen display with 3GB RAM. Connectivity features onboard the Ola S1 Pro include 4G, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. The scooter also offers driving modes, which can be summoned on riders’ requests using the MID.

On Sky Island, your character’s face will transform into a cute circle and you can loot Hex Shop coins on the island that can be used on the ground. The Sky Island will be available for a certain period of time, after which you will land on the ground. Along with these, your character’s head keeps growing when you are hit by an enemy, and after you are defeated, your character’s head inflates like a balloon and you float up in the air. Fortunately, your squad mates can save you by shooting at you. If they fail to do so, your character will fall to the ground and get defeated.
