Throughout his tenure as the first black Springbok coach, Peter de Villiers was in the news, and not always for the right reasons. His battle to be accepted and respected by the rugby fraternity started from the moment his appointment was announced, when his new boss admitted that De Villiers had got the job for reasons ‘other than only rugby’.

In his four years as Bok coach, De Villiers experienced huge successes – a series win over the British & Irish Lions and a Tri Nations trophy – but he also suffered the ignominy of coming last in the Tri Nations and seeing his World Cup dream shattered by the controversial officiating of referee Bryce Lawrence. In addition, his outspoken nature and colourful application of the metaphor alternately amused and horrified South African rugby fans, and his close relationship with his senior players begged the question: Who was coaching whom?

Pieced together from interviews with sisters Eileen de Jager and Roelien Schutte by journalist Ilse Salzwedel, this book offers an intriguing, entertaining and sometimes upsetting glimpse into a world few people know exists.

Some of you might have seen the 2008 Hollywood movie Sunshine Cleaning with Amy Adams and Emily Blunt as two sisters teaming up to earn extra cash by cleaning up scenes of murder, suicide and other grisly affairs.

This book is nothing like the movie.

While reading this book keep in mind that the author, professor Willie Esterhuyse, was a National Intelligence Service (NIS) spy. He admitted this fact in his own words, in Afrikaans, when he stated: “My code name was Gert!” – (Afr: “my kodenaam was Gert!”) -- See Beeld report here.

He often wrote about his experiences and meetings in English pubs with the Communist enemies of South Africa and how South Africa’s super spies laid the table for handing the country over to the Marxist enemies. In his book “Tomorrow is another country”, the journalist Alister Sparks writes on page 86, that Prof. Willie Esterhuyse after those experiences taught his political science students that, “Negotiations do not always have to be formal; You can use Glenfiddich to solve a problem.”

Publication Date: March 24, 2012

Book Description:
A new book (2nd Edition) from Washington Post-award winning reporter Colin Flaherty: Race riots are back. Along with widespread racial crime and violence. In hundreds of episodes in more than 50 cities since 2010, groups of black people are roaming the streets of America -- assaulting, intimidating, stalking, threatening, vandalizing, stealing, shooting, stabbing, even raping and killing. But local media and public officials are silent. Crime is color blind, says a Milwaukee police chief. Race is not important, a Chicago newspaper editor says. The kids were just blowing off steam, says a Philadelphia social worker. Thanks to YouTube, we now know the truth. This is the first book that puts it all together.

"This is a challenging book. An interesting and powerful and ultimately persuasive book by a great American writer not afraid to look at one of the most thought about but unspoken features of American life." -- Dan Auld, award-winning journalist.

"Magic. Flaherty speaks from his strength, which is understanding media. He links together abundant citations, all from mainstream media and many from African-American media, in order to illustrate his point. " Houston Examiner
His book sparked anger and controversy among black nationalists for daring to repudiate his African roots and thanking God that his ancestor was enslaved.

After he spent three years reporting from Africa for the Washington Post, Mr Richburg hurls down a challenge to black American leaders to stop deceiving themselves and the 35 million (black) descendants of slaves, that Africa is Eden on earth.

"I'm tired of lying,' he writes. 'And I'm tired of all the ignorance and hypocrisy and the double standards I hear and read about Africa, much of it from people who've never been there, let alone spent three years walking around amid the corpses.

"Talk to me about Africa and my black roots and my kinship with my African brothers and I'll throw it back in your face, and then I'll rub your nose in the images of the rotting flesh.'

"Richburg spent three years covering the continent's senseless violence, corruption, bloody and incessant cruelties--machete-wielding Hutu militiamen, a cholera epidemic in Zaire, famine in Somalia, civil war in Liberia, disease, dirt, dictatorships, killer children, AIDS, terror.

"Had my ancestor not made it out of here,' Richburg muses, 'I might have ended up in that crowd...maybe I would have been one of those bodies, washing over the waterfall in Tanzania or maybe my son would have been set ablaze by soldiers. Or I would be limping now from the torture I received in some rancid police cell...' – Sourced from www.revisionisthistory.org - (follow the link to read more)
Life on Lawrence Anthony's game reserve, Thula Thula, is rarely dull, what with spitting cobras endangering his rangers and the unpredictable behaviour of his herd of elephants. But at least his orphaned rhino Heidi is calm around people, and a favourite of staff and guests alike. Until she is brutally slaughtered for her horn. Furious and heartsick, Lawrence heads off to track down the poachers, but also embarks on a bid to save the Congo's last few northern white rhino from extinction. Diplomatic efforts are failing, so he takes action himself, flying into a warzone to negotiate with rebels. Will he survive his most dangerous adventure yet, and will Thula Thula survive the drought that threatens the region? Peopled with unforgettable characters, from the local witch doctor to eccentric conservationist Brendan and the elephants who have such an extraordinary bond with Lawrence, The Last Rhinos is a sometimes funny, sometimes moving, always gripping read.

Product Description:
A riveting, behind-the-scenes account of the removal of Thabo Mbeki as President of South Africa, which examines the build-up to events, describes the details of those seven days in September 2008 and explores Mbeki's legacy. "Seven days in September" refers to the seven-day period in September 2008 when Thabo Mbeki was removed from office as the President of South Africa. At the time, Frank Chikane was Secretary of Cabinet and Head (Director-General) of the Presidency and in that capacity he was responsible for managing the transition from Mbeki to Kgalema Motlanthe and then on to Jacob Zuma. He thus had a front row seat to the unfolding drama and was one of very few insiders to be party to the transition in such a unique way. In July 2010 Chikane published a series of articles with Independent Newspapers that came to be known as the "Chikane Files". These form the basis of some of the content of this book (about a quarter of the book's total contents), which Chikane says he feels compelled to tell from his perspective in an effort to provide an insider's account of this key historical period.

The book “We Were There”, compiled by General Jannie Geldenhuys, is finally available on Kalahari.com, South Africa’s leading online bookstore.

The book contains 92 chapters about the South African Border War on the Namibia/Angola border (1966-1989). It is also available in Afrikaans, “Ons Was Daar”.

General Geldenhuys wrote the book - with the assistance of 62 others Generals, Officers, and soldiers, because they felt the need to restore the honour of the SADF, as well as the true history of the Border War in South West Africa (Namibia). The General added that the SADF were the victors in the war, but - “they who were defeated are telling the stories... Our soldiers are not getting the respect they deserve.”

The book is a monumental work that tells the truth about Fidel Castro, and other so-called truth-gymnasts. General Geldenhuys also said: “We are NOT going to be politically correct when we tell ours!” Source

Incidentally, I’ve noticed that the English page on Kalahari.com provides no Product Description for this book. It simply provides the ISBN number, leaving out other essential info. such as, the Publishers Name, Publication Date, Book Format, etc… Viewers who land on the page are presented with another product to consider, immediately below the ISBN number, which in my case was, “Atlas of Changing South Africa (2nd Edition)” - first published in 1994 as "The Atlas of Apartheid", by A.J. Christopher.

No year would be complete without Zapiro’s annual collection of cartoons, which have served to become a reflective summary of political events in the year. Packed with biting humor and cutting edge satire The Last Sushi showcases this year’s cream of the crop from South Africa’s sharpest cartoonist.

Once again Zapiro also acts as our national conscience and ensures that no event passes by without comment… or a laugh.

The heading of this book says it all…

It connects the conspiracy dots and fills in the gaps like no other book has ever been able to achieve. The author pulls no punches on describing secret societies, the family bloodlines involved, and their impact on the cultures and history of the world. After reading this book, my only regret was that I’d never read it sooner. – Tia Mysoa
About the Book:

Contrary to myth being fabricated, Islam does not pose a threat to the West. Rather, Islamic “terrorist” organizations have been created to serve Western imperialistic objectives. These groups are intertwined with Western power through a network of occult secret societies. This relationship dates back to sixth century BC, and the birth of the Kabbalah, in Babylon; a plot to seek world domination through the use of magic and deception.

The story of this ancient Mugabe-style madman is masterfully told with a sense of impartiality, mixed with a little underlying sarcasm (or humour) - depending who the reader is.

The following was sourced from chapter 3 of Thomas Bulpin’s book - “Lost Trials of the Transvaal”. The chapter heading is called “Winding Paths”. It is a brief but colourful account of how some of South Africa’s existing roads and highways came into being. The chapter also provides some lesser known and/or forgotten legends associated with these ancient winding paths.

The following text was sourced from chapter 2 of a rare book by Thomas Bulpin - “Lost Trials of the Transvaal”. The chapter heading is called “Superstition Mountains”. These are the mountains known today as the Soutpansberg Mountains (Salt Pan Mountains) situated in the modern-day Limpopo province. It is the most northern mountain range in South Africa.

The copy of Bulpin’s book I have in my possession, published in 1965, has an authors note, stating: “This book represents the combined material of several earlier works, Lost Trials of the Low Veld, The Golden Republic, Storm over the Transvaal and Lost Trials of the Transvaal (1956 edition). Much new material has also been added in the process of correction and modification.”

The copy in my possession is beautifully illustrated with line drawings by A.A. Telford and C.T.A. Maberly.

I’ve just discovered a new book called, “Dead Boer Walking: Whites have Rights too”, written by Renate Ackerman. Only the Kindle Edition is available, dated 13 Sept. 2011.

Product Description from Amazon.com:
Nobody was more hated amongst black terrorist groups in South Africa than Susan Van Der Merwe. Her investigations in to racist attacks on whites made her few friends and powerful enemies. In this extraordinary story and first hand account she explains how blacks threatened to kill her if she did not stop her enquires in to racist attacks on Boers, how they threatened to kill her friends and family when she refused to be intimidated, and how she ended up the number one target on a black terrorist hit list called Boerwatch. Her most terrifying moment came when she was shot and left for dead outside President Mandela’s house. This is the tale of one woman’s determination to stand up to racism and ethnic cleansing against her community and uphold the conservative values she believes.

Product Description
This book exposes the atrocities of the concentration camps that the British installed during Anglo Boer War II in the many ways in which England broke the rules of the Hague Convention. During this war England conveniently forgot about the Sand River and Bloemfontein Conventions, during which the British government granted sovereignty to the Boer Republics.

England wanted to destroy the Boer Republics, and sent 450,000 troops against an entire population of less than 200,000 souls, yet could not win on the battlefield.

So, Lord Kitchener set out to implement the scorched earth policy: the British soldiers burnt everything the Boers depended on for survival: their farms, food, livestock, and whipped defenseless Boer women, children, the sick, elderly and disabled Boers onto soiled trucks built for animals, and took them to concentration camps. There was not water, food or sanitation on route. 22,500 children died in agony in the camps, while some were shot dead.

He travelled, lived and lectured in Philosophy at universities in Africa. He now lives in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Pulling back the curtain on this secretive world, Andrew Feinstein reveals the corruption and the cover-ups behind weapons deals ranging from the largest in history - between the British and Saudi governments - to the role Israel plays in helping U.S. weapons manufacturers sidestep economic sanctions. He exposes in forensic detail both the formal government-to-government trade in arms and the shadow world of illicit weapons dealing, and lays bare the shocking and inextricable links between the two. Drawing on his experience as a member of the African National Congress who resigned when the ANC refused to launch an investigation into a corrupt major South African arms deal, Feinstein illuminates the impact this network has not only on conflicts around the world but also on the democratic institutions of the United States and the United Kingdom.

Based on pathbreaking reporting and unprecedented access to top-secret information and major players in this clandestine realm, The Shadow World places us in the midst of the arms trade’s dramatic wheeling and dealing, from corporate boardrooms to seedy out-of-the-way hotels, and reveals the profound danger this network represents to all of us.
