At the Nov. 4 meeting, TIA applauded India for a number of important liberalizing reforms that have opened the Indian telecommunications market to competition. In addition to welcoming the scheduled January radio spectrum auction for 3G and Wireless Broadband, TIA made a number of recommendations with respect to how India licenses and regulates services, manages and allocates spectrum, and regulates VoIP.

TIA Urges FCC to Adopt Broadband Benchmarks that Extend Beyond One-Way Speeds

In response to the FCC's request for comments following its Sept. 2 workshop on broadband metrics, TIA recommends that the Commission develop a tiered analysis for defining two-way broadband speeds that accounts for all technologies and the capabilities they promote. TIA is also recommending that the Commission encourage and facilitate more consumer disclosure in regard to their broadband plan that extends beyond advertised speeds.
