The January sales are something that everyone looks forward to. Everything that didn't sell for Christmas is marked down and sold off to make way for the new stuff of the new year. So what will you buy?

This all includes stuff online. Amazon will have some fantastic deals going, we're guessing it'll be mostly Christmas related stuff but there will be some stuff that will be a great buy in January.

Fitness equipment is always a good buy in January. A lot of people make new year's resolutions that say they're going to get fit and lose weight in the new year so look for a mini trampoline, a treadmill or an elliptical machine.

Or will you be more interested in electronics? Apparently, February is a better month to buy those in. Laptops or the latest Android or iPhone devices will be going like hotcakes.

Christmas Eve Traditions Around The World

Christmas Day comes with its own traditions but Christmas Eve around the world also has it's own rituals. In the UK, Caroling is a tradition on the eve of Christmas where groups go door to door or just stand in the town centre and sing Christmas songs to those weary last minute Christmas shoppers. In the US, some like to open gifts from family members before heading to bed, ready for what Santa Clause will bring in the morning.

Christmas Eve is a time for families to be together and await the next day with excitement and trepidation. Many like to cosy up on the sofa and watch films such as 'It's a Wonderful Life' or maybe even 'Die Hard'.

The most important thing is, if you have kids, to enjoy the holiday season. If you are doing the Elf on the Shelf, this will be the last night that they will be around till they fly back to the North Pole. How will their reports of the children be? Will Santa bring their presents or will he leave them a lump of coal? Hopefully the former!

Usually, a big dinner that evening is the norm for many. Some in Britain like to do the cracker pulling on Christmas Eve as well as Christmas Day too.

Netflix 'The Crown': What Does Series 3 Hold For The British Monarchy?

Claire Foy starred as Queen Elizabeth II in Series 1 and 2.

The Netflix original series 'The Crown' has been a wildly popular hit with viewers. It's a biographical drama about Queen Elizabeth II after her marriage to Philip, who was created the Duke of Edinburgh. The first series covers the years 1947 to 1955, with events such as the wedding of Elizabeth and Philip, the death of King George VI and Elizabeth's subsequent televised Coronation in 1953.

There was also the ill-fated romance between Elizabeth's sister, Princess Margaret and Group Captain Peter Townsend which culminated in them being forced apart in 1955. During all this, there was flashbacks to her Uncle David's infamous year as King Edward VIII in 1936 and his abdication to marry Wallis Simpson and their subsequent exile from the United Kingdom.

The second season dealt with the Suez Crisis of 1956 and Britain and France being left red faced due to the failure of the invasion, the Queen must take it upon herself to restore the reputation of Britain in the eyes of the world and keep hold of Ghana from Russian hands.

This season ended with the death of President John F. Kennedy and the fallout from the Profumo scandal that began in 1961. So what does season 3 hold? When will it begin in the chronology of Elizabeth's reign? A year after season two's end? That would make it 1964.

Britain in 1964 was a much changed place. Politically speaking, Labour were at the top of their game thanks to their Huddersfield born leader Harold Wilson and in late 64, he became Prime Minister. There was, of course, popular culture that had exploded with the likes of James Bond and the Beatles spearheading shifts in the way movies and music were made. Suddenly, Britain's reputation was not only restored in the eyes of the world, it was celebrated.

Olivia Colman will portray the Queen in Series 3.

We'll more than likely see the break down of Lord Snowdon and Princess Margaret's marriage (they divorced in 1978), the investiture of Charles as Prince of Wales at Caernarfon Castle in 1969. But where will season 3 of the Crown end? In 1973? Perhaps when Camilla Parker-Bowles enters the young Charles' life? We already know Olivia Colman of 'Broadchurch' and 'The Night Manager' fame is going to be taking over the role of Elizabeth. Who will play Philip though? Matt Smith and Claire Foy were only contracted for two series.

Christmas Specials And Films On TV

Some of our favourite TV dramas and comedies spoil us with specials around the Christmas period and while this is common on British TV, US TV seems to not really engage in the practice. On Christmas Day, there is nothing really to enjoy on the networks except repeats of films like Home Alone and other films. The biggest TV shows of the year are off the air for the season in the US on the day itself.

Though American TV has its own traditions, such as TCM repeating 'A Christmas Story' for the entire day of Christmas. It's quite something to behold when I first moved here. A channel, showing back to back repeat showings of a Christmas film.

Another festive favourite is Home Alone, with the sequel 'Lost In New York' being probably the most popular of the two original films starring Macaulay Culkin.

But, for many, Die Hard is the ultimate Christmas film. It has a man who's just trying to get home to his family and is put under pressure by Alan Rickman and his band of terrorists at Christmas. What's more Christmassy than that?

Tofurkey - Is It Actually Good?

There are more and more people choosing to go vegetarian these days, maybe you are or you are having someone over who is and are wondering what to give them on Christmas day for dinner. Maybe you decided to take the plunge and forsake an actual turkey for the polarizing Tofurkey.

Now, Tofurkey isn't exactly a new thing. The company 'Tofurky' have been creating a range of veggie goods since 1980. There are many big companies that specialize in vegetarian meatless products. Quorn are one, as are Linda McCartney.

Vegetarianism has yet to really take off in the US as it seems to have done in the UK. This could be partly due to the numbers of vegetarians in the UK rising as a result of the shortages of rationing during World War II.

But is Tofurkey as good as the real thing? My personal experience is yes, it's every bit as tasty as the real bird but there are a lot out there who prefer eating the real thing. Eating Tofurkey is a lot healthier, though and it is full of protein that you'd normally find in meat.

A Holiday Shopping Guide For a British Expat.

This holiday season, if you or a loved one is from across the pond, then you should know what you're getting for Christmas. As a British expat myself, I know the craving for stuff from home gets too much to bear as the season goes on. Looking down the aisle of your local grocery store and seeing the paltry British section just doesn't cut it, does it?

The most obvious things us expats miss are food stuff. The first time we bit into a Hershey Milk Chocolate bar, our reactions were pretty much the same I can guess. The first time we tasted a purple Skittle in the USA, we knew we hated them in the UK but instantly longed for them at that moment.

Okay. Maybe some of us didn't.

1. Tea.

It had to be number one, didn't it? Surely you're thinking "But they have tea here!", right? While that's true, it's not British tea. The common way to drink tea in Britain is a black tea blend with a splash of milk. There seems to be a general consensus in Britain that Yorkshire Tea is the best cup of tea in Britain and their packaging states it. So, pop this in your Expats Christmas stocking and it'll do them the world of good!

2. Marmite

This polarizing yeast spread is one you'll want to get your loved one. Even if they hate it, they'll appreciate that you cared enough about their homeland to get it. Marmite is usually spread thinly on toasted bread along with some butter to cut the salty taste. In Australia, they have their own version of Marmite known as 'Vegemite' and that seems to be slightly lighter than Marmite. You either love it, or you hate it. Which are you?

3. Back Bacon

Bacon is very popular in the USA, however, you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who had heard of Back Bacon. It's a different cut of the pig, whereas US bacon generally comes from the pork belly and is known as 'streaky'. Get this for your British spouse and they will love you till the, uh, pigs come home?

4. Chocolate & Sweets.

How can you not get this for yourself or your British spouse this year? Perhaps a box of Celebrations or a box of Quality Street? or their weight in Jelly Tots or Jelly Babies?

The most important treat of all is British Candy!

5. Britbox Subscription.

You or your British expat spouse has been missing their telly from home, haven't they? They may be missing Coronation Street or Eastenders or maybe even just want to watch all of the classic Doctor Who episodes! Get them a subscription to Britbox. Britbox has the biggest streaming collection of British TV ever. You fancy reminiscing about Last of the Summer Wine? That's there. There's also new dramas and comedies that are constantly being added!

Travelling Britain In The Winter

If you're coming from a country that is not used to severe winter conditions, Britain might be a shock to you if you travel there in the winter. It's pretty cold. So, I advise you pack a lot of jumpers (sweaters), trousers (pants), and comfortable jackets that you can take off when you head into a department store. (Yeah, they like to keep it warm in those stores!). If you're going to be outdoors a lot, take a hat too. You won't regret it!

The climate of Britain is best described as 'mild' for those who are used to it. If you're from, say, Texas and you are used to hot summers and winters that rarely fall below 16C (60F) for the low, then you will be in for a shock if you plan to stay for the whole winter, which officially lasts from December to February but, temperature wise, begins earlier, in around, say, October time. Yeah.

Some of the coldest winters of modern times have produced record snowfall in England, Scotland and Wales. This is something to consider if you can't stand the cold! Winter is one of the reasons hot tea with milk is enjoyed throughout Britain, it's a bracing beverage that offsets the sometimes bitterly cold weather that the island is subjected to.

But Christmas in Britain is something you cannot miss out on. If you're in an area that is prone to snowfall, then you're probably going be in for a treat. Out on the countryside, the green is replaced by white and it looks absolutely spectacular.

The Best Christmas Music In The World?

We all know that Christmas music is the best music, right? No? Are there some out there that DON'T like Christmas music?! How can that be?? You will have to explain that one in the comments below.

So, what are the favourites? If you believe the stores and the Christmas music lovers, then the list goes as follows:

1. 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' - Band Aid, 1984

Bob Geldof and Midge Ure wrote this song in response to the TV reports of the 1983-85 famine in Ethiopia and it was recorded in a single day by Band Aid, a supergroup put together by Bob and Midge containing the biggest British and Irish musical acts of the time. Stars like Boy George, George Michael, Bono and Paul Weller are on the track which became the Christmas Number 1 in the UK in 1984 and became a hit worldwide.

2. 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' - Mariah Carey, 1994

This is one of the more modern inclusions in the holiday Christmas, good old Mariah Carey scored herself a hit with this catchy little song she wrote and sang in 1994. Mariah regularly is rolled out at Christmas to sing this song and with its 'Make my wish come true/baby all I want for Christmas is you!' lyric, there's plenty of lovers out there who sing this to their prospective partners.

3. 'Simply Having A Wonderful Christmas Time' - Paul McCartney, 1979

Macca recorded this track by himself during sessions for his 'McCartney II' album and has since become a perennial holiday favourite with it's bouncy synth, sporadic guitar and double tracked vocals and the catchy chorus, this song has been derided by Macca's detractors for being one of his rushed compositions.

4. 'Merry Christmas Everybody' - Slade, 1973

This is a British Christmas favourite and with lyrics like 'did you granny always tell ya/that the old songs are the best?' sung by Noddy Holder in his distinctive rasp just makes the festive season in the UK worth it. It's nothing if not a staple of all the department stores in the UK's playlists.

5. 'Happy Xmas (War Is Over)' - John Lennon, 1971

The first solo Beatle to do a Christmas song was, of course, John Lennon in 1971. The lyrics are set to the old English ballad 'Skewball' and it begins with John and his wife Yoko Ono whispering Christmas greetings to Kyoko and Julian. The Phil Spector production is evident throughout and Yoko's vocals are quite prominent over the Harlem Community Choir. This song has become even more of a holiday favourite since John Lennon's death in 1980.

FurReal Roarin' Ivory The Tiger

We were recently in Toys R Us, where they had one of these FurReal Roarin' Ivory Tigers unboxed where you could pet it and play with it and I swear to you, this thing just seems so real. My niece got one of FurReal's little puppy dogs for Christmas last year and it's cute, but this Tiger is really on an entirely different level. It's a little pricey, but I'm telling you, it really seems worth it.

First of all, this thing will look at you. It must have some sort of voice recognition, because my husband was standing over it and talking and this Tiger looked up at him with its eyes! It's really, sort of eerie to be honest, but it's also super cool. The head seems to be fit on sort of loosely, so when you pet it, it moves its head like a real cat. And, speaking of petting this adorable little creature, it is beyond soft and cuddly. She can move her head, ears, eyes, mouth, and tail. Roar at her and she roars back. So sweet!

You can find Tyler (the orange and black tiger) at all the major retail stores, as well as on Amazon. But, Roarin' Ivory The Playful Tiger is a Toys R Us exclusive. Just like in real life, there are fewer white tigers in existence than orange, so get yours quick! Unlike Tyler, Ivory is a girl with glittery silver eyes and glittery purple eyeliner. In addition, her toy chicken is a shade of white with purple details. If you can't find her in stores or on the Toys R Us website, you can always find her on eBay and Amazon, but you will pay a bit more than retail.

Oxford Street Christmas Shopping Has Begun.

Oxford Street in December is a treacherous place!

It has begun. It's December 1st. That means Oxford street in London is choc a block with people hitting the 300 plus stores to begin their Christmas shopping. That means people walking all over the place with heavy bags and also, tourists who have no idea which way to walk and have no idea whats going on.

As you trudge up out of Oxford Circus Tube Station, you might see a throng of people coming at you, pushing you out of the way, into the road even! You have to get to a shop, any will do! Perhaps Miss Selfridge? Topshop? Or another shop! Be prepared to rip off that coat and scarf and hat though because the stores keep their air conditioning hot to offset the cold winter blast of London in December.

As well as shopping on Oxford street, there are a variety of places to have a sit down to get a bite to eat or a cup of tea or coffee, or a hot chocolate. Take the weight of your plates of meat. (That's 'feet' to you and me!)

Along with the shops and the restaurants, there's plenty to see on the mile and a half road that makes up Oxford street. If you're lucky, there might be a parade in progress!

I'm going to be honest here and say that I don't love this trend for me, but I decided to share it with you all, because I have seen it on some people and it totally works. The latest trend is layered necklaces. This is where you can wear sometimes one necklace that has more than one chain that looks the same, or sometimes it has several chains that look different from one another, or sometimes, you actually layer several different chains to achieve the desired look. Join me and we'll take a look at some of the more popular styles together. (I have a feeling, even as I type this, I might change my mind about this look in putting this post together for you.)

What to Pack for a December Trip to New York City

If you're into Christmas, there is no more Christmasy place on earth than New York City. But, if you've never been to New York City in December, and you're not from that part of the country, be prepared: New York City is absolutely freezing during winter! This is not a drill. You will need a warm coat and all the wintry things. All of them. But have no fear, we're here to guide you through the most important things you'll need to remember to bring.

1. Heavy Woolen Winter Coat

The first thing you'll need to be sure to bring is a high-quality, heavy winter overcoat, like this Zeagoo Women's Fur Lapel, Double-breasted Wool Coat. New York requires a lot of walking in order to properly see the sites, so you'll be outside a lot. The most important thing you'll bring is a good coat.

2. A Warm Pair of Winter Gloves

Travelling Britain: Yorkshire Dales

The Yorkshire Dales are yet another jewel in Britain's landscape crown. Holding National Park status since 1954, It's breathtaking scenery, it's quaint, northern villages with it's vibrant people and culture.

The Pennines form a lot of the Yorkshire Dales, it's a mountainous, hilly region that separates north west England from north east England and are widely considered to be one of the most scenic areas of the United Kingdom.

The dales are all splendid in their view and my personal favourite is Wensleydale, made famous for its cheese, it's nearest market town is Hawes, where the cheese is still produced at the creamery.

Though not in the Yorkshire Dales, the town of Holmfirth is synonymous with the scenery of Yorkshire, being featured heavily in the longest running sitcom in the world, 'The Last of the Summer Wine', which ran from 1973 to 2010 for a whopping 31 series.

Sid's Cafe in the series is now a major tourist attraction, with a mannequin of long running character 'Compo' outside for photo opportunities.

Holmfirth and its surrounding areas are some of the most beautiful in Yorkshire and tourists flock there not just for the TV sitcom but to experience the sheer beauty of the west Yorkshire area.

The Yorkshire Dales themselves are perfect for walking in the clear, fresh air. You can get up to all sorts of adventures in the picturesque setting and then stop in a pub for some food and drink to end your day of activities.

4id was featured on The View's View Your Deal a little while back, and I just thought their LED light-up Power Laces would make a fantastic stocking stuffer for any kids or adults you know who work or play outside after dark. They look super cool when lit up, and they allow you to be seen when you're out and about. Plus, they're weather proof and the batteries are replaceable, so they'll last quite a while.

They come in a few different colors and are perfect for anyone who likes to jog or work out outside after dark or in the wee hours of the morning. Aside from being useful, though, these are just plain fun. I can imagine that if I was a kid who liked to hang out at the skating rink on the weekends and had my own roller blades, I'd totally want these to light up the rink as I raced around. Not sure how schools would feel about them being worn to school, but I would imagine I'd probably want to try that too! They're super cool in pink, white, green, or blue and they have four settings: flash, slow flash, or constant, and off, which can easily be adjusted by pressing the power button.
