My coworker went to Spain for a month and forgot all of her underwear. so now when my boss goes out to visit in a few weeks he'll have to bring her chonies to her. I took this picture and sent the following message to her:

plane trip to spain- $600, hotel stay for one month- $1,000, making your boss carry your chonies across the world in a plastic Wal-Mart bag- priceless.

final pin cushion

so I finished my pin cushion a while ago and kept meaning to post the final pictures. I LOVE it and use it constantly. It is one of the best things I've made for myself in a long time. I am considering making a few more and selling them. They are really unique. The middle section is pretty hard to put together but if I do a few more I think I will get a better feel for it. I just finished cute wool blend cape with paisley cotton liner and lace hem. I am really excited about it. I'll post those pictures tomorrow. Enjoy!

shoes with toe slots? really?

I was at Starbucks today with my friend, Melody, and she spotted this girl sitting at the table on her laptop. Mel gives me the 'eye' and I turn and look and immediately started laughing so hard that I think I might have snorted. It is specifically for reasons such as this that I always carry my little camera around with me. I gave it to Melody, who had a more direct point of view than I. Thought we would be really subtle about it but when the flash went off we were so embarrassed. oh well I got the picture anyway! I prevail!

Back to the subject at hand. What is the deal with these shoes ? They have toe slots. They totally creep me out. I imagine people need them for when they need to act like monkeys!?!? I suppose I can see a function for them out in the wilderness- all 'Man vs. Wild' style -but in a local Starbucks? So I wanted to learn more about these interesting new shoes and found them on the web. Would you believe they cost between $80-$100??? you tell me... fashion do or don't?

Holy cow, holy cow. I am out of my mind right now. Look at this fantastic dress that I saw running down the Christian Siriano show during NY fashion week. It combines my three favorite things in clothing: dip dye, tulle ruffles, AND it's a pinky shade of red- my fav. omg. I have no comment about that model. She doesn't do the dress justice. Give me a smile because your dress is so fantastic! Maybe she's just really hungry. lol.

I love this link. It was just posted the other day and shows different bloggers and their best outfits for the year. They represent cities and countries from all over the world. I got lost in it yesterday. It is so interesting to see the same trends in orange county following the ones in Paris, Sweden, etc. How so very inspiring for those winter blues (or low 60's if you're in southern california, lol). So get out of those sweats and put on a pair of ankle booties, some textured tights, and a poofy skirt.

I found this dress online at a vintage store in Venice. It is so gorgeous and reminded me of The Great Gatsby. When I think of the roaring twenties I think of looks like this instead of the traditional dropped waist, drapey necklaces, and flattened chests. I love the flowy chiffon and the bolero is so perfect!

San Francisco Museum of Modern Art

The week after xmas I went to the bay area for a visit. I was just there for a few days but my dad and sister took me on a short trip to SF to check out the new collection at the SF Museum of Modern Art. On a side note, the XYZ restaurant at the W right next door to the SF MOMA was D.E.L.I.C.I.O.U.S and probably cheaper than the museum restaurant. Here are a few pictures I took while at the museum. The painting is a Matisse. I love that man and how he can make a vase of flowers look classy. The other one of me and my sister are standing in the rooftop garden playing with a piece of art. not sure that we were allowed on it. opa!

pin cushion caddy

I made the most useful and cutest thing the other day. I wanted to share it with all of you. Right now I only have pictures to post of it 'pre-stuffed' but tonight I'll take more pics of the "after" look. I am using it so much and I especially love the little cubby for me to put my seam ripper, extra bobbins, and measuring tape in. It is a lot larger than it looks. I've been looking around for other pin cushion products on the market and haven't seen one like this. Thinking I will add it to my slowly growing collection of Tiffany Ruffles products that I'm going to sell on Etsy soon. OH! and the fabric is something I searched high and low for and finally found the print that I fell in love with. It is so retro + vintage. I got it online and have so much more but I am afraid to use it- much like when you're a kid and have a bunch of stickers but you don't want to use them because they're so cute. so eventually you grow up and you find 500 stickers that you forgot about. I need to let go. lol.

I found these shoes at Nordstrom Rack. They are 1/2 size to 1 size too small but I jammed my feet into them because I thought they were so beautiful. They had been marked down and marked down again. I got a GREAT price and love them so much that I wanted to share them with you. I love anything with jewels especially "cocktaily ring" jewels. I've never seen jewels like these on shoes before though and hope they don't get knocked off.

lost pictures found again

I was home for the weekend visiting my family and friends. It was a great time. Part of my goal this year was to scour my mom's garage for old pictures. Since she moved houses 10 years ago the old pictures of my childhood were hidden some where and no one had the map. So the happy ending to this story is that I had 'great success'! I found the great treasure, and after some necessary scolding on my mom's part, "Don't put those pictures up on the car like that!!!!" -- I never change, "what's the big deal??" I pull the gems out of the garage and into the house for permanent storage. As I was looking through these pictures remembering specific events that I had forgotten about I couldn't believe how much time had passed. At one point in my life, when I was younger, I could recollect those moments fairly well. I also could remember the exact feeling of that moment that was held within those pictures. And it all felt very real to me. Now I look at those pictures and feel distant to them. Is that really me? Did I really wear that??? What was I doing there? It became apparent that time quickly passes and even though I am now embarrassed at what I was doing or wearing or whatever, I only remember happiness. Even though I feel like a stranger to the images I still feel the happiness and I think that is what happens when we get older. Even though specific memories fade we always remember the great joy we feel. So, now, I will focus on the present and try to make the experiences as fantastic as possible so that I can create more wonderful memories.

One more thing to add-- as I looked at the pictures I noticed that I only remembered the good things and the fun times; the laughing and the joking. I remembered the family trips and the car rides; my favorite dog (RIP) and the things that I love most about life. Even though I KNOW I had struggles and I REMEMBER how hard it all was at times I definitely don't remember them as significantly as I do those great moments where we laughed and loved and shared. I don't know why that is and I am still trying to figure it out. In the meantime I think I will focus on making my time here just as fantastic as possible- less negatives thoughts and more positive. I wondered what life would be like if all moments were looked upon with negativity. Does that mean that I would not have as many memories? Or at the very least- as many cherished memories? I don't want to be 50 years old and look back and be completely devoid of anything good and positive in my life just because I was negative all of the time. I think this will be my New Year's Resolution -to be positive more often and keep the good times coming!

I have been searching and searching for some good chic, funky style fabrics. Succumbing to Joann's fabric store has been getting on my nerves because the stuff that they offer is sub-par AND fairly pricey. I usually go to www.reprodepot.com which has a pretty good selection but I am bored with the selection and need more variety. I finally came across a great online store called my fabric shoppe. The lady who runs the website has an owl for her logo and I love that even more. She also has a shop on www.etsy.com. Side note-- great site. You must check it out. Now. Go.

I can finally make the cuffs that I wanted to do, the cute aprons, and billions of other projects that I'm halfway through. oh my.

you really have to check this site out if you're trying to find some good fabrics. If anything it's really inspiring just to look at.

I don't want to admit it folks. I really don't. I don't want you to know what I did earlier tonight. BUT-the thought of not sharing this photo with you is much greater than the misery I will feel by telling you what I did. Wait for it... wait for it... I went to Wal-Mart. ugh... I'm hanging my head in embarrassment right now. Don't judge me. It was out of necessity.. really. I swear. I was at my gym and it is just a coincidence that Wal-Mart is right next door to it. I had to get some conditioner or else my hair would turn into the consistency of a horse's tail. I was desperate. I only did it once and I thought of you the whole time, I swear.

As I passed through the fluorescent lit aisles I came to an end cap. This end cap was filled with the one thing that I abhor the most-- the one thing that I struggle with on a daily basis to live without. sugar folks. so much sugar. The very epitome of mass consumption. And you wonder why our country is facing an obesity epidemic. Just take it in. This is enough to make me give it up forever. Blech.
