When it comes to choosing tiles there are so many options to select from including standard formats, borders and mosaics. It’s not just colours and patterns which you must decide upon but also the type of finish. We send out samples to make your job of choosing the perfect tiles an easy one. This will put your mind at rest and will give you the chance to view the tiles alongside certain features and applications.

How Many Tiles Will You Need?

You will need to first measure the area about to be tiled. You can then contact one of our helpful advisors to establish how many tiles you will need altogether. The total amount will naturally account for some wastage. We also supply grouts and adhesives, the amounts of which will be supplied in relation to the size of the area in question.

Preparation

Preparing a space for tiling will ensure you are completely ready even before you receive your tiles. Preparation can include removing existing tiles or other materials, cleaning the area and making the substrate suitable for tiling. Walls and floors should be entirely clean and dry which will ensure a successful adhesion between the mortar and back of the tiles.

High Quality Sparkzle Glitter Grout

Fireplace Surround with Ceramic Tiles

Glazed ceramic tiles with a floral design provide fireplace surrounds with a decorative pattern. Ceramic is heat resistant making it a practical material for fireplaces. The smooth surface of glazed ceramic is also easy to clean. Tiles like the Laura Ashley Isadore Floral Black on White Ceramic (pictured above left) provide a timeless decor on walls around fireplaces. These tiles have a contemporary appearance. Another stylish choice is the Black Metro Brick tiles (pictured right). These tiles have a high gloss surface which emphasises the black colour. Once again, these ceramic tiles work well as part of modern interior designs and contrast well with white surfaces as shown in this living room design. Metro brick should be tiles in a brick like pattern which is also known as a running bond.

Feature wall with Rock Cladding

If you want more than just a straightforward fireplace surround then another option is to create an entire feature wall. For this, stone rock cladding is an excellent choice. Rock panel white cladding tiles (pictured left) have a rough texture and provide a rugged brick wall effect. They can be installed around modern electric fires to good effect but look equally stylish when surrounding a coal fire. A wooden mantle piece can be attached to the wall although sometimes these are omitted from the design to retain a minimalist character. The contrast of an orange glow from the fire upon a background of white cladding tiles creates a spectacular aesthetic.

Electric Underfloor Heating Mats

The conservatory often gets overlooked during the cold winter months. In most homes it tends to be used for storage until the big spring clean renders it suitable for use in time for the summer again. There is, however, no reason why it shouldn’t be a great room to spend time in all year round, especially over the festive period. The thing that puts a lot of homeowners off spending more time in their conservatory during winter is that it tends to be colder than the rest of their home. This doesn’t need to be the case as electric underfloor heating mats (right) are a cost effective way of heating your conservatory. The heat will not only warm the flooring surface but will also permeate through to heat the entire room. These mats are installed first before flooring is laid on top and are therefore a lot more discreet than radiators or electrical heaters. These mats are also more energy efficient and can be simply switched off during the warmer months of the year. The temperature is controlled by a thermostat.

Lighting and flooring

The long days of summer are all but a distant memory and sunlight alone will not now be sufficient in lighting your entire conservatory. There are ways in which you can illuminate conservatory interiors to good effect with ceiling spot lights. These spotlights are stylish and placed in rows on ceilings will light the space beneath them extremely well.

If you are going to spend more time in your conservatory then you are going to require a hard wearing flooring surface to deal with the extra use.
