Changes....

Things change as you get older..

you see things differently

you put up with a lot less...

you know what you want out of life, friends, family

so much more than you did in your 20's,30's, 40's...

and you become a lot more true to yourself..

there is some carnage on the way

don't get me wrong

many people don't understand this particular journey

they don't see the road you have travelled and the path that is before you

That's fine too...

because you are born alone

and you die alone..

and the time in between is such a valuable thing..

drops of diamond sand

so so precious..

sometimes it takes you a while to truely see that..

and so

sometimes things change

as they must

so that valuable time you are given

is lived fully and joyfully

to the very edge of its bursting beauty...

wouldn't you agree?

We have had a few photo shoots here at Greystanes

so there is a nice documentation of changes to the home over the years we have been here...

I mentioned the front room changes here

Of course when you move into a new home even one thats been around for a very long time like this old lady has

there are a few layers of colours, wallpapers etc that previous owners may well have loved

however they don't always quite fit in with your own preferences...

This room above the stairs for example looked like this just before we moved in..

LOVED the old art deco ceiling light..

I wasn't particularly fond of this wall colour though..

or the trims...

this room catches the winter sun so I wanted it bright and airy...

there was a lot to paint, strapping on walls and ceilings, floor to ceiling windows..

but we were most happy with the result..

Still much more work to do around the house

but nice to remind ourselves of our progress..

My Vintage fabric collection - For Sale

I've been collecting Vintage Fabrics for a very long time...

I had always intended to turn them into cushions

quilts

lampshades

maybe even a dress..

but since the major car accident I was involved in last year

things have changed

I'm looking at things quite differently these days

and moving in a different direction

clearing the clutter if you will, in all aspects of my life...

So I've opened up a new on-line website

I've only just started and its only the tip of the iceberg..

I've been collecting for well over 10 years...

my Armoire is bursting at the seams...

Most are one off hard to find fabrics...

I'll be sad to see them go

You really don't

I was tidying up my picture files on my computer and came across these old Real Estate photos of Greystanes before we became the new custodians...

It reminded me of all the hard work we have done over the years

about six years now..

removed that yellow tinged Laura Ashley wallpaper..

the ceiling fan

the gold brassy light fittings

repainted walls, ceilings, windows..

before...

It looks a little different even now

since this "after" photo was taken...

I have all white slipcovers

and there are a few less bits and bobs too..

before it was one very long large room...

after...

we broke it up into sections with the furniture

much more useable...

We use this room quite a lot now

especially in winter when we light a fire..

nice and cozy...

These photos will be a nice reminder of what we have achieved when we move on

and available for purchase in store...

The out takes from THE Country Style magazine photo shoot

Well it has been a while now since the magazine article came out in Country Style magazine

February 2012 to be exact and the photos themselves were taken around three months before that..

Country style kindly sent me a disc of the photos

which I promptly lost..

I spent a good three hours looking for them this afternoon

My husband found them under the record player with all the CD's...

don't ask me how it got there...

My husband has a real knack for finding things I lose...

anyhow..

when I look at the photos now

I can't believe how much the house has changed in that small amount of time

It's evolved

it's like the house has lost a little weight from all that extra stuff

I have too (which is good but that's another story)

Years ago

I loved everything pink and pretty

you can see just how much if you scroll back to my older blog posts...

It was a lovely stage in my decorating life

but my taste has evolved to the slightly more "industrial" side these days...

actually I don't even want to pigeon hole it

I like what I like and I like mixing it up

end of story..

I feel that I'm being a lot more true to myself these days

in many aspects of my life, interior design included..

it with trembling fingers that I am letting the last of my pretty vintage tins go..

The blue one in front still has its original label on it too...

I know you will love these old tins just as much as I have over the years..

they have moved house with me a few times but now its time they travelled to another home..

no one can accuse me of being a hoarder these days

Lucky for me

one of my favourite flowers

grows like a weed in our garden..

we have them all over the garden...

fresh in green...

crisp in white..

they do keep popping up in my photos...

I love how their colours change over the seasons

from summer brights

to autumn tones..

I can't think of a better weed in the garden

can you?

Vignettes around the house..

I love making and photographing vignettes in this house..

probably because it takes the eye away from the wet towels

dumped (again) on the floor by the teenagers who live here...

distracts me from the pile of paper work on the table..

makes me look away from last nights dirty dishes in the sink..

makes me feel less guilty about not doing more "time" at my daughters primary school...

takes me away from scrubbing those subway tiles in the bathroom..

averts my eye from the cyclone that is my teenagers bedroom..

takes me away from the super fan dangled budget system I was going to sort out this year...

In a word

it helps me to

procrastinate..

I'll explain that to you a bit more when I get around to it..

I've just found a nice new lot of treasures in the back of a cupboard that I want to play with..

1950's Vintage Dresses

There's nothing I like more than foofing around the house

one of the few things I find relaxing in a busy world

I struggle to find time to sit down and read a magazine

but a bit of house foofing,

I'm onto it..

I found these gorgeous old dresses a while back at a fabulous online garage sale on facebook

In a word they are - divine

They have been used for a few photo shoots

and I've photographed them all on their own too

pastel

pretty

and unique..

perfect to include in some foofing...

I'm keeping these because my daughters wear them sometimes

and they are in demand for photo shoots

however I do have some gorgeous items for sale in my
