The cases of swine flu has been steadily increasing since its outbreak in April 2009. So far, the virus has killed at least a thousand people in the United States alone. Almost 100 children had died and 46 states have already recorded numerous cases of the outbreak.

In response to this rising epidemic, President Barack Obama has declared the swine flu epidemic as a national emergency.

As part of the declaration, US Health Secretary Kathleen Sebelius can bypass federal rules in opening alternative health care sites, such as offsite hospital centers at schools and community centers. Relocating offsite can prevent further spreading of the virus to non-infected patients and health workers at community centers, hospitals and other treatment areas.

Hospitals can also change the rules to speed up access to treatment, such as requiring less information from patients so they can be given treatment as soon as possible.

For our part, we must stay vigilant in observing cleanliness with our surroundings. We can also choose to buy some form of health care, even if it is just low cost health insurance.

I desperately need appetite suppressants. My jean size has just ballooned to 30 now. I tried controlling my eating habits, but no matter what I do, I still get hungry and I tend to eat more than three time each day. Even if I start avoiding eating some foods, I still eat more meals in a day.

Not only that, because I live in a country where rice is the staple food. A meal is not a meal without the rice, and rice is full of carbohydrates. I also love to cook, and I am proud to say, all my dishes taste good.

I have been having some allergic reaction while working at the office. I don't feel sick like that when I'm outside or when I'm at home. I used to have AVG 8 in my netbook. It is one of the free antivirus software available in the market. That software, however, was not as effective as I thought in detecting some new viruses.

Take for example, the bar311.exe virus that has infected my BF's PC and flash drive. Good thing I have AntiVir and Norton Security in my netbook. They were able to detect the virus early and prevent it from spreading into my netbook.

As of now I am looking into subscribing to Norton Security. I have not experienced feeling safe with an antivirus software until I got Norton Security. I love my netbook too much now to allow anything to happen to it.

Thoughts of leaving my nine-to-five job to work as a freelancer have been dancing in my mind. Lately, I have been experiencing this trapped feeling whenever I think of work. There's a strong urge to just drop everything, buy an RV and get my RV insurance, and drive away, leaving behind a stressful life in the city. These thoughts and feelings are not there without a reason, I know. They are probably symptoms of an oncoming bout with burnout.

One of hiphop's fashion accessories that I find most grotesque is a set of grills in one's mouth. Garage Sale

One of my sister's friends have just migrated to the US. She had a one-week garage sale at their house here in Iloilo last month. I felt lucky I was able to buy some books from her. In fact, I was glad to even find the house. The house was a bit hidden from the main road. It's part of a family compound and the guard at the gate doesn't let strangers in easily.

When I got there, there were boxes, bags and moving kits scattered around the living room. The stuff for sale were inside these boxes. They have small stickers on them indicating their prices. She sold most of her stuff, including branded clothes at one-fourth the price she bought them with. I felt like a treasure hunter who just discovered a hidden trove of valuables. It was so exciting!

I bought a thousand pesos worth of goods and some clothes. She just told my sis she'll be back in December. And she'll probably sell again some stuff from the US. I'll surely be there to buy from her again.

Upgrade to Something Faster, Better

I know I haven't updated often at this blog. It's been difficult getting the connection up to speed. That storm, Jolina, has just hit the country. There's been floods and landslides. The rain and wind were really giving it all they've got to us. Brownouts were unavoidable.

Added to that is our router's connectivity feature. My sis has her laptop but we can't use that with the desktop at the same time because there's only one connection: cable. The best solution was to get a wireless router, and have the connection's speed upgraded to the next package, which is worth 1,295 each month with 1mb for the both of us.

My sis and I are planning on buying a wireless router by our selves but we're not too sure it's okay with Globe. They might charge us higher, or they might give us a discount. I'm not sure. Gotta go and ask them tomorrow.

Goodbye, Tita Cory!

After a long battle with cancer, former president Corazon Cojuangco Aquino has been finally laid to rest at the Manila Memorial Park yesterday alongside her beloved husband and national hero, Senator Benigno Aquino Jr.

The funeral lasted a day beginning with a high mass held in honor of a beloved icon of democracy and a devotee of the Virgin Mary. There were speeches delivered reminiscing the beautiful and touching moments friends and families had with Tita Cory. Only invited guests were allowed to attend the mass inside the Manila Cathedral. Security was tight and a cordoned area was set up in front of the church.

Not far away, supporters of the Aquino and Cojuangco families stood waiting in the rain, hoping to have a final glimpse of Tita Cory when the mass would end and the funeral march would begin.

All in all, it was a very solemn day, and yet there was an undercurrent of hope. Tita Cory left the world peacefully. She believed she had lived a fulfilling life, and it's time for her to be with her Maker, and her husband. Her legacy of treasuring the democracy we have, so fragile and precious, will live one.
