Just fyi I own a week in october - just came back. I
have not paid my maintenance fee and there was no trouble
or mention or refusal of access. Guess there is no guarantee
this will be the same for everyone though.

I went in to the sales office and had a chat with them - the
guys in the office were very sheepish/apologetic and embarrassed
about the whole affair.

They did not seek to offer a 'lame' excuse instead honestly
and simply reflected that those costs were accurate and any dodgy
information was before their time and that they had inherited
the problem. We might of course consider that lame given the
story we all got when we bought.

They mentioned that 1/3 had paid, and that they couldnt do
anything about the fees (of course!) but that future decisions
cuts in services etc etc can all be decided by the owner
committee. In addition they thought it would probably take
about 2 years to sort out this mess but in the end if people
didnt pay then they had the right (though they didnt like to
do this) to recover the lodge/week back.

I would love to go to Slaley Hall and I've got a pending request in with Interval but no luck so far. I'm a member of DRI and would be able to book a week at any of their resorts (obviously depending on availability, prime school holiday weeks are best booked 13 months in advance) in exchange for a week at Slaley Hall.

If you're interested go and look at www.diamondresorts.com and let me know. Any time of the year would be OK but I'd prefer spring or autumn. I could provide references if required.

Having seen a number of De Vere timeshares for sale on ebay I wondered if anyone knows why?

Possibly it's just this time of year when maintenance fees are due but the weeks I've seen were at three different resorts. Their reputation is really good so it's maybe just a coincidence.
