This years show ran from the 12-15th March and was attended by 112,000 visitors from 126 countries, a increase of 4% from last year. Following a first year exhibiting at the 2007 Musikmesse, Time+Space headed back to Frankfurt to build on the success and exposure achieved in the previous year. With a prominent position and a much bigger stand. We were delighted to present Toontrack, Rob Papen, Overloud, Synthogy and Zero-G on our stand, all of whom performed superb demos throughout the course of the four days. Rob Papen has announced Predator v1.5 at the Frankfurt Musikmesse 2008. This free update for registered users is planned for release in April/May. It holds many new presets but also an extensive 'bank editor' and a lot of other minor detail improvements. Here is a short list of new features: Bank editor added with extensive features (also scroll wheel added and increased keyboard controls). Right mouse menu has new functions, including direct entry of values. Greatly expanded Arp screen functions, including multiple selections, keyboard entry and 4 special tie-modes. Added vowel filter. Number of modulation slots increased from 4 to 8. Oscillators and Filter output can now be use as modulation sources, allowing very flexible modular setups. All users of the Vienna Special Edition can now add articulations they might have been missing until now at a compelling price. Rob Papen unveils new RG synth

Rob Papen has unveiled RG at Frankfurt Musikmesse. It is a brand new groove plug-in that is far more than just a ´virtual Rhythm Guitar player´. By using the RG onboard sequencer it is possible to create classic Rhythm Guitar grooves, but beyond that you can use the synthesizer features and effects to make fresh new edgy guitar grooves. To play the grooves RG is using a keyboard layout of "major chords" and "minor chords", each with two sequence patterns (A or B) option. It is only a matter of hitting a single note in the major keyboard range or minor keyboard range and the groove plays. The sound sets are clean sampled guitars, which gives you great freedom and flexibility when using the synthesizer features and effects of RG. Guitar types included: The classic Fender Stratocaster electric guitar. A 8th note groove type Steel String acoustic guitar. A 16th note groove type Steel String acoustic guitar. The synthesizer parts of RG include a classic analog modelled synthesizer filter, LFO, envelopes and modulation section. The effect section can be built up by using up to 3 effects at a time. Included are MIDI time-based delays, chorus and also speaker simulators, phaser, flanger and many more. Formats have not been announced but it is likely to be Windows/Mac OS X, VST and AU. The RRP for RG will be £99/€129/$189, shipping is expected in Spring 2008.

Toontrack announce EZplayer Pro software at Frankfurt music show

EZplayer Pro is the much expanded version of Toontrack Music’s EZplayer Free which was launched as a free download last year. In EZplayer Pro you can collect and organize all the MIDI on your hard drive. You can combine, put together and fuse drum and percussion MIDI clips from individual kit pieces to entire arrangements and audition them with your favorite drum sampler in EZplayer Pro before dragging them into your sequencer. The application is organized as a multi track sequencer arranger where every track can be connected to a virtual instrument in the main sequencer and EZplayer Pro be utilized to audition different instruments in combination before you adjust them in detail. The tracks and the sub tracks with fills and variations connected to them can also be aligned to a hardware controller such as a keyboard or percussive controller to trigger MIDI sequences live. On top of all the new functionality the map-wrappers between different drum sampler formats (which allow users to use the MIDI from one brand of drum sampler with a sampler from another brand as a sound source on the fly) have been expanded to now encompass all common brands in the market. EZplayer Pro will be delivered with all new MIDI content from David ´Fingers´ Haynes and others. EZplayer Pro will be included on disc together with Superior Drummer 2.0 as its MIDI engine but it is also available separately priced at £25/€35. Shipping is expected in mid/late April 2008.

Following their official unveiling last month, German hardware manufacturers ESI have 3 brand new products that are now shipping from all good Pro-Audio stores.

First up is the ESU1808 which is a USB 2.0 high speed recording interface which features 18 input channels and 8 output channels, all of which can be used simultaneously. This 1U rack unit features 2 microphone preamps with balanced XLR inputs, 2 direct instrument inputs (Hi-Z), and 12 balanced/unbalanced line level inputs.

Next is the DuaFire, a 2-in/4-out Firewire Mobile Recording Interface. It features ESI´s EWDM technology which allows use of driver interfaces like ASIO 2.0, GSIF 2.0, MME and WDM simultaneously. DuaFire is an ideal mobile recording interface for both laptops and desktop computers. It has flexible inputs that allow you to record from a variety of different sources.

Spectrasonics unveil more Omnisphere secrets in new video...

After announcing Omnisphere at the NAMM show last month, Spectrasonics have posted a video revealing more in-depth information on ´psychoacoustic sampling´ and how some of Omnisphere´s huge 40GB+ sound library has been created.

For those of you who haven´t heard, Omnisphere is the successor to Spectrasonics’ massively popular Atmosphere® instrument, and contains enhanced versions of all the classic Atmosphere sounds. The Omnisphere core library will be 10-times the size of Atmosphere and features thousands of completely new and different sounds. There will be an upgrade path for all Atmosphere customers, details to be announced in September.

This new video is just over 15 minutes long and runs through some of the wierd and wonderful techniques that Spectrasonics have employed to create what will be a truly unique user experience. This includes a custom-made musical typewriter and the recording of a burning piano!

Omnisphere is set to be released on September 15, 2008 and the price will be €399 and £TBC.
