BETHLEHEM, PA (MARCH 17, 2020 ) – Rest assured, the Easter Bunny will arrive in homes across the Lehigh Valley this year, thanks to Chocolate Lab of Bethlehem.

The Lehigh Valley fine chocolate shop is offering home delivery, take-out, and curbside pick up of its fresh, fine chocolates. And, in time for Easter, the shop will also roll out its Bunny Brigade, a special service for the delivery of Easter candies directly to customer’s doors.

Chocolate Lab specializes in fresh-made daily, organic, fair trade chocolate selections, in dark, milk or white chocolate.

“Dark chocolate is a noted mood enhancer, thanks to the antidepressant effects of phytonutrients called flavonoids, including tryptophan, serotonin, and phenethylamine. Dark chocolate affects the brain and helps in a calming effect,” according to Everyday Health blogger Anna Brooks, in an article medically reviewed by Kelly Kennedy, RD.

And, in times as in the present COVID-19 outbreak, the Bethlehem chocolate maker is ready to deliver its fresh-made chocolate products within a 15-mile radius of Bethlehem, Saucon Valley, Hellertown, Easton, Allentown, and surrounding areas. Chocolate Lab has also expanded its offerings on GrubHub and UberEats.

Chocolate Lab was founded in 2002 by Arlene Brockel. Today, the store is located at 446 Main Street, Bethlehem, PA. To order home delivery of chocolates or for curbside delivery, call 610-865-5781, email, thechocolatelab@ymail.com, or go online to www.chocolatelabbethlehem.com.

New Recovery Center for Families Impacted by Substance Use Disorder will Hold Grand Opening Ceremony Friday, June 28, 12 noon.

BETHLEHEM, PA –The Oasis Community Center will chart new ground when it opens July 1st at the Park Plaza Farmhouse, 3400 Bath Pike, Bethlehem, Northampton County, PA. A grand opening ceremony will be held Friday, June 28, at 12 noon. State, county <g class="gr_ gr_5 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear Punctuation only-ins replaceWithoutSep" id="5" data-gr-id="5">and</g> city officials are slated to attend. Special speakers will include Jennifer Smith, Secretary, PA Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs; Lamont McClure, Northampton County Executive; Marcia Hahn, PA State Representative; Robert Donchez, Mayor, City of Bethlehem; and John J. Finnegan, Jr., Hanover Township Manager.

The center will be the first of its kind in Pennsylvania and will serve families and individuals impacted by Substance Use Disorder (SUD). The Oasis Community Center will be operated under the auspices of Speak Up for Ben, Inc, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization.

The establishment of the Oasis Community Center is made possible through support from the County of Northampton Department of Human Services Drug and Alcohol Division.

“As a nonprofit organization, we are thrilled to announce the approval of the Oasis Community Center for Northampton County,” said Rhonda Miller, Speak Up for Ben Executive Director. “Opening a recovery center for families has been a dream of ours for many years as we battled alongside our son Ben’s disease of Substance Use Disorder.”

“We know first hand that families often lack the support they need. We are excited for this project to finally come to fruition,” added Miller.

The Miller family founded Speak Up for Ben, Inc. after losing their 23-year-old son and brother, Ben, to the Opioid epidemic in 2016. The Oasis Community Center is not a drug and alcohol or mental health treatment facility, nor will anyone reside at the location. Rather, the center will serve families who have experienced substance-related loss and for those currently dealing with a loved one’s substance use by offering resources, support and holistic healing activities.

The Oasis Community Center will include family support meetings, grief recovery groups, and experiential healing activities. Details on the center’s events and programs will be determined by the executive director and a steering committee comprised of Northampton County community residents who are committed to promoting and advancing family recovery.

According to Matthew Bartos, Speak Up for Ben Board President, the center will offer many methods for family recovery and will support activities and events that are healing for those in recovery from a loved one’s addiction. “On any given day, for example, there may be a 12-step family support meeting, an art or cooking class, and a children’s program,” Bartos noted. “The healing modalities will be very nurturing. We welcome anyone who has experienced a loved one’s substance use to visit.”

The drop-in Center will be open weekdays for regular programs and on occasional weekends for special events. At least one Certified Family Recovery Specialist (CFRS) will be on-site. A Certified Family Recovery Specialist is specifically trained in supporting family members seeking recovery from a loved one’s addiction.

Customer service, research and rewards – not the first needs that business owners and managers look to fill when employing Facebook.

But the popular social medium can fill those needs and more, I discovered when serving recently as a test study at Facebook offices in New York.

The 90-minute experience was as intriguing as it was informative. The social media giant’s behemoth offices in Lower Manhattan are a bustling, trendy hub of activity.

Perks abound for those who work there, and the best perk for this visitor was learning that some of her favorite ways to use Facebook in business are being resurrected and refined.

BUSINESS AND MOBILE

Much of Facebook’s success centers on continually rolling out new designs. And it was clear to me that as a one-on-one participant, the company was testing new interfaces that will be particularly useful for small to medium-sized businesses with brick-and-mortar locations.

The host, Jamie, a researcher, had me run through several new business applications, testing designs on a mobile device and personal computer. Study participants’ experiences were recorded on video and photographed for internal use.

Facebook was most interested in how participants would use and interface with the new, mostly mobile developments.

REVERSING FIELD

Now, this is where the experience really got cool.

Any social media professional worth his or her paycheck should remember the day about a year ago when Facebook quietly deleted the ability for administrators to “lock” into a sole business page.

Many of the adaptations being tested that day in New York seemed to be in response to that sudden and mysterious change circa last March. Jamie confirmed the theory.

The inside code word for the former application was Highlander, he said, and its quick disappearance created much controversy inside Facebook, as well.

ONE YEAR LATER …

Last year, I sent to Facebook various expressions of my dissatisfaction with the changes.

Then, in typical Facebook fashion, it was crickets – silence – until last month.

That’s when I received a Facebook email with a survey. Based on my survey answers, I was accepted into the study and given an hourlong meeting. (Along with the promise of a $100 gift card for the time and effort.)

A LOOK AT THE IMPROVEMENTS

Facebook is ready to roll out many changes for business pages, and some of the new features already are showing up. Here are some of the potential changes that I tested:

Look for a new ability to “lock” into a business or community page directly from a personal page on a mobile device. Currently, business page managers need to use Page Manager.

Soon, interfacing between a personal and business page on your phone will be far less cumbersome.

Interfacing, reading, posting and responding to Facebook notifications and messages is in a newer, easier-to-read format. This is occurring on both mobile and PC applications.

This feature also includes a seamless new way to respond to Instagram posts from Facebook.

Another feature tested was a new and simplified method to assure that the business page you are posting from on your mobile device is indeed the page you wish to post from. Two weeks later, some of my business pages had this feature rolled out.

Ever need to respond to a customer or message in a more concise manner? A new, neat feature tested and now starting to roll out on mobile business and PC pages is the ability to “follow up.”

Keywords and notes can be added for the follow-up. This is a great feature for businesses to follow up on customer requests, coupons, sale items and such.

GOOD TO KNOW THAT IT CARES

Overall, it was refreshing to know that Facebook cares about how companies here in the Rust Belt run and operate their businesses and use their Facebook pages.

And to all those folks who go around professing they are some sort of social media guru or Facebook expert, please know that even Facebook employees aren’t privy to all of its nuances.

That was as certain as the popularity and profitability of Facebook itself.

New Paintings by Tina Cantelmi

BETHLEHEM, PA (IMMEDIATE RELEASE) – Large color-saturated abstract landscape paintings by Tina Cantelmi will be on view at Edge, 74 West Broad Street, Bethlehem, PA, Feb. 7 through May 31.

A meet the artist reception will be held Thursday, Feb. 9, 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public.

“Inspired by tepid to tropic locations, these paintings bring imaginative compositions, layers of light, shape and hue to either rev or calm these senses,” says the artist.

A visit to Valley of Fire in Nevada, a super-heated afternoon in Key West, or a spectacular sunset in the Lehigh Valley all are inspiration.

At least two of the six paintings on view incorporate “Goblies,” paint balls created by inventor Briana Gardell, a Lehigh University Alumni.

“I’m honored that Goblies have been utilized into fine art and that the artist wanted to bring my product to her work,” says Gardell, principal of Mezzimatic, the parent company for Goblies, a Bethlehem-based company. Goblies was noted by CNBC as one of the hottest new toys at the 2016 New York Toy Fair.

“The power of collaboration and coworking really comes together with the artist’s work,” says Gardell.

“I met Briana at Sobe CoWorks in South Bethlehem last year, and I was immediately mesmerized with the possibilities her throwable paints posed for the fine art market,” says Cantelmi, a Bethlehem native. Adds the artist, “I love the color and spontaneity. One challenge was to create a means to ensure the product adhered to the stretched canvases for fine art permanence. “

Tina Cantelmi earned a B.F.A. from New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. Her paintings are in private collections from Miami to Boston to Seattle and the Lehigh Valley.

In New York City, the artist studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology, and worked as a fashion editor and reporter for WWD. She also contributed for more than a decade as a weekly columnist and feature writer for the Morning Call and other local magazines and publications. To contact the artist, email info@tinabradfordpr.com
