Hi everyone! Here's a look inspired by Selena Gomez's makeup during her performance on the MTV Movie Awards. I'm actually a big fan of her and I think she's so beautiful naturally. MAC Archie's Girls Caramel Sundae Palette Tutorial

Here's a look using Archie's Girls Caramel Sundae Palette. I have to admit these eyeshadows were a bit difficult to work with especially when using them all together. I think these colors would look gorgeous if I were to pair them with other colors that compliment them instead of using them all in one look. The look didn't come out the way I expected it to but I thought it came out nice either way. It's a soft smokey eye that's very subtle and very wearable for all skin tones and eye colors. Hello and long time no post! It's been about 2 weeks since I did my last tutorial and I knew I had to make a comeback soon. I've been stressing out over some personal things going on in my life and doing tutorials is honestly my best escape. I thought I would start a prom series on YouTube and on my blog since prom season is coming up. This look I did is so easy to do and it took very little effort. I thought I would make the look simple and easy to follow for those who will be doing their own makeup for prom. And by simple I mean not complicated, not necessarily natural looking. Hi everyone! Today's look is super bold and bright! It has to probably be one of my most favorite looks I've done in the history of my makeup career. Haha! I'm just completely obsessed with the combination of blue, green, and teal. This look is dramatic but I find it quite wearable in my opinion. Spring is here and I can already feel it! It's been a while since I worked with colors so I figured what better way to welcome the Spring season than with a tutorial. I did a makeup look similar to this last year but using different colors. I'm just a huge fan of teal and coral together. The colors compliment each other so much! How to Sanitize and Depot Lipstick Without Heat

Hi everyone! This weekend I decided to do a little DIY project for my lipsticks. I've been meaning to house my lipsticks into palettes but I wasn't sure which palette to go with. I knew that whatever I chose, I wanted it to be practical, sturdy, and easy. I'm so happy I got my hands on this bead box I found at Michael's. Not only is it affordable, but it's absolutely perfect for lipsticks or even loose shadows and other cream products that you may have. No more lugging around 50 tubes of lipstick when you're at a gig, thank goodness! Instead of melting the lipsticks I decided to "press" them into the jars. Not only is this technique a lot faster but it's also less messy. Although I do believe that heat won't alter the original color of the lipstick, I choose not to take the chance in case I happen to accidentally burn the lipstick. *crosses fingers*!

Any kind of lipstick will work for this project! I used brands from MAC, Estee Lauder, NYX, Maybelline, Wet N Wild, etc. I noticed some lipsticks were easier than others to remove from its tube. It mostly varied depending on the brand and the type of finish. For example, Maybelline lipsticks were easy to remove and mostly came out in one piece, whereas NYX lipsticks were far more creamy and required more scooping.

In total, the box holds 6 stackable jars that stack up to a total of 5 (you can stack more if you choose not to store them in the box). That's a total of 30 jars that you can depot your lipstick into! I really like this technique of depotting my lipsticks because not only are they in their own little compartment which keeps them away from other colors, but it also allows me to arrange the jars however I want to. You can also pick and choose which colors you want to bring along with you depending on your makeup gig or for travel because you can unscrew each jar onto another one. This entire box along with the stackable jars go for about $9.00, but you may be able to find them cheaper like I did! They were 40% off when I purchased mine so be on the look out for upcoming deals! Nonetheless, $9.00 is already very affordable compared to other lip palettes that are out there!

In case you missed my first post of these swatches, I decided to put them all in one. Can you tell I'm a little obsessed with the Maybelline Vivids lipsticks? I'm trying not to convince myself that I need the entire collection but like I said I think I picked out a good mixture of different colors from pinks, reds, corals, and plums. Unless there happens to be a BOGO sale on these babies, which I know there will be one eventually, I'll try to steer clear from them for the time being! Anyway, I hope you all find this helpful.

MAC's Quite Cute collection that came out in Spring 2011 released this amazing neon, hot pink lipstick called Candy Yum Yum. I remember it being the talk of the beauty community and it was then I knew I just had to get my hands on it. Just recently they made this lipstick a permanent shade at MAC which makes me happy because I don't have to go above and beyond in case I ever run out or lose it. Even if they didn't make this lipstick permanent, I have found a really good dupe of the lipstick! Maybelline's Fuchsia Flash lipstick that came out in the Vivids collection is a great and an inexpensive alternative to MAC's Candy Yum Yum. You can't beat $7 for a lipstick compared to one that is $15!

Although the lipsticks are very similar and can very much well be a dupe of each other, they are also somewhat different. Candy Yum Yum is a matte finish, therefore it has a much drier formula, while Fuchsia Flash has a shinier finish and glides on a lot easier. Also, Candy Yum Yum is more blue-toned so it has a cooler undertone compared to Fuchsia Flash which is more pink-toned and has a warmer undertone.

I can't get enough of these lipsticks. I'm in love with all the colors! Shocking Coral is a coral pink color and Fuchsia Flash is a bright hot pink color. It took me forever to find Fuchsia Flash lipstick because I know it's a perfect dupe for MAC's Candy Yum Yum lipstick. I'll do a post right after this to show you the comparison between the two. I want to get the entire collection of the Vivids line but as of right now I'm totally happy with the 5 that I have.

Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette Everyday Smokey Eyes

I have been getting a TON of requests to do Urban Decay Naked palette tutorials on YouTube. Not specifying which palette to use, I decided to go in with the Basics palette since it's still fairly new to me. I will be doing more looks using the original Naked palette and the Naked 2 palette since I had to take some of the videos off of YouTube due to copyright issues. Ugh! London Soho New York Beauty Sponge Review

The London Soho New York Beauty Sponge is another great alternative to the Beauty Blender. (Click here to read my review on the LeCosmetique blending sponges, a great alternative to the Beauty Blender). For just around $7, I purchased my beauty sponge at my local Walgreens. I've actually been using this blending sponge for quite some time now, since last year I believe. Then I suddenly ran into an unopened box in my makeup drawer so I figured I would give it a review.

This beauty sponge is great for blending foundation onto the skin for a nice airbrushed finish. The point on both ends makes it easy to get into the hard to reach areas like under the eyes and on the sides of the nose. Unlike the blending sponge from LeCosmetique, this sponge is much pointier and it doesn't have a flat bottom. This sponge does expand when it is damp and it reminds of the tempurpedic memory foam mattress because it holds its shape for a few seconds when you squeeze it. I like to use the "press and roll" method when I use this sponge because I find I get the right amount of coverage without the cake! This is also great for applying loose powders under the eye when you're setting your concealer.

Some of the downfalls about this beauty sponge is that it doesn't have a flat side where you can "bounce" it on your face to distribute your foundation. Unless you use the side of it but I find that I'm not getting the same results as I would with the Lecosmetique blending sponge. Also, any products that gets onto it will stain the sponge and you're most likely not going to get the stain out. Trust me I've tried! Some products stain more than others so I would recommend using your finger or a brush to distribute the product and using the beauty spong to blend it all out. I find that this technique has the least amount of damage as far as staining goes.

I also noticed that this doesn't last nearly as long as the Lecosmetique blending sponge. After several uses of this sponge, it began to deteriorate. Unlike my Lecosmetique sponges, I've used them countless times and it still held its shape. Nonetheless, it's a really great product and a great alternative to the Beauty Blender for a much better price. As soon as this one gives out I'm definitely considering buying another one!

Romantic Valentine's Day Makeup Tutorial

It's a bit more sultry and smokey, and somewhat more romantic if you choose to use a look like this for Valentine's Day. I like this look because it's smokey but it doesn't scream dramatic, and it has a touch of innocence to it with the soft lips and cheek color. This look doesn't have to be just for Valentine's Day. Maybelline The Rocket mascara is said to provide eight times the volume for your lashes. You can find this at your local drugstore for around $6-$7. When I first saw this mascara I was intrigued by the packaging and the commercial. I'm sucker for these things, okay? I first noticed how the mascara wand reminded me of the Covergirl LashBlast mascara wand, which I love! Since my natural lashes are short, the oversized wand grabs onto my lashes better. So I bought this mascara thinking it would give my lashes the same outcome if not better. I did notice a slight difference between the two though. The Rocket mascara is more pointy and slightly a bit wider in my opinion.

I've been using this mascara for more than a week now so I think it's safe to give my honest review on it. Do you ever use a mascara for the first time and it's just not that great? I find that I have to use my mascara a few times in order for the mascara to form just the right consistency for me. That's how I felt about this mascara. I first used this mascara and thought, mehhh. Nothing too great. But the more I kept using it, the better the consistency became and the better it applied to my lashes.

As you can see in the photos below, this mascara is not meant for lengthening, at least not for me. I look for more volumizing mascaras so if your'e looking for a lengthening mascara then this might not be the one for you. I thought that this mascara held the curl quite nicely throughout the day. I didn't notice any flaking which I do experience with other mascaras such as Maybelline Plush Lash mascara.

The size of the wand is not too big and it's not too small that it's difficult to apply mascara. The size of the wand distributes mascara evenly throughout my lashes without clumping. I can get away with just doing one to two coats of this mascara without any clumping. I would definitely repurchase this mascara again as it's a close second to my favorite Covergirl LashBlast!

Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette Look & Tutorial

Hey guys! Here's a really simple and natural look with bold lips featuring my Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette. This is most likely going to be my Valentine's Day look this year since I'm looking forward to wearing bold lips. Being festive for Valentine's Day isn't all about dressing up the eyes and that's what I felt like going for in this look. If you're curious to know what I'm wearing on the lips, I'm wearing Maybelline Vivids lipstick in Shocking Coral in the first picture and Vivid Rose (my favorite!) in the other. Hi everyone! Being that it is February and the month of LOVE, I decided to dedicate this post to Valentine's Day since it is about a week away from now. I'm not sure what my plans are for Valentine's Day yet but I told my boyfriend that I will making dinner plans for us since he is usually the one to make reservations. Around late January I was thinking of making reservations to this Italian restaurant which had really great reviews but I was thinking it was too soon to make reservations. Boy was I wrong! I tried to make a reservation today and there were no more available seats for reservations. I was kind of disappointed because now I have to look for another restaurant. Any suggestions for a romantic dinner in San Diego?!

Anyway, here's a look I did today that I thought was Valentine's Day-esque. I think the colors are fun and flirty! I had no idea how this look was going to come out. I literally just grabbed the colors as the camera was rolling. I decided to go for a nude lip but even a soft pink lip would look great. Next tutorial I'm going to do will be a simple eye with a bold lip using one of my Maybelline Vivids lipstick. Hope you all enjoy the look and have a Happy Valentine's Day!

During my excursion to Ulta I stumbled upon the new Maybelline Vivids lipstick line that just came out recently. All I can say is holy amaze balls these lipsticks are to die for!!! Vivid is definitely the perfect word to describe them. I only purchased a few for the meantime just to test these babies out before I make a decision to buy more, but judging by the pigmentation of these lipsticks, I'll definitely be going back! These lipsticks are not only extremely pigmented, but they go on like a dream. The consistency is creamy much like all the other Maybelline lipsticks that I have. It feels moisturizing when on and it doesn't dry out my lips. You can find these lipsticks at your local drugstore for around $7 each.

Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette Photos & Swatches

I picked up the Urban Decay Naked Basics Eyeshadow Palette at my nearest Ulta. For $27, you get six full-sized eyeshadows that are perfect for creating everyday natural eyes to smokey eyes. This palette comes with five matte shades and one shimmer. All the eyeshadows are silky smooth and pigmented, and true to color! I love that majority of the colors are matte which is my favorite finish to work with. I'm definitely going to consider using this palette as my new everyday eyes palette.

This palette is extremely tiny! I imagined it being a bit larger than what it actually is but it fits perfectly in the palm of my hand and is great for travel. The packaging is quite sturdy with a satin finish. If you have both the Naked palettes already, I'm not saying this palette is an absolute must-have. However, if you're fan of neutrals you'll definitely love this palette!

Venus is an off-white shimmer eyeshadow which is the only shimmer eyeshadow in this palette. This will work great as an all-over lid color or to place in the inner eye corner to highlight the eyes. A close enough shade to this color if you have the Naked palette is Bootycall eyeshadow.

Foxy is a yellow beige eyeshadow. This is more around my skin tone so I would imagine using this as a brow bone highlight on myself. Foxy is also a shade in the Naked 2 palette.

Walk of Shame is a cooler beige eyeshadow. It's another great brow bone color or a lid color if you want to go for something matte.

Naked 2 is a soft brown color. I would use this color as a transition color from the lid to the brow bone. Compared to Naked eyeshadow in the Naked palette, this shade is much lighter.

Faint is a medium brown eyeshadow. If I'm going for a really natural look I would use this eyeshadow on the outer corner and crease or as a transition color for smokey eyes. This is similar to Naked and Buck eyeshadow.

Crave is a matte black eyeshadow with a bit of a brown undertone. It has a bit of a drier consistency but nonetheless very smooth and pigmented. If you have the Naked 2 palette, it is similar to Blackout eyeshadow.

Happy Sunday everyone! I hope everyone is enjoying the rest of their weekend. Here is a look I did this past weekend for a friend of mine for her birthday. I was very fortunate to do her makeup at the top floor of the Hard Rock hotel in Downtown San Diego. Such a gorgeous suite and an amazing view of the city. I was definitely feeling it! She wanted to go for a smokey purple look and this is what I was able to pull off for her.

How to Pack Like a Makeup Artist [Makeup Kit Essentials]

Hello everyone! I thought I would make a blog post about what type of beauty products are important to bring with you as a freelance makeup artist. Keep in mind that various clients require various products so the photos shown below are not necessarily everything I carry every time I meet with a client. Also, some essential products are not shown below, however I will mention other important products to carry with you at the end of this post.

My current makeup train case is made by a company called Zuca. Zuca provides carry-all luggage with utility pouches, various pockets, and compartments within the bag. Athletes, business people, pet owners, travelers, and makeup artists have used Zuca, and from experience, it is definitely a reliable train case for ensuring all my items are kept secure and organized. I purchased my Zuca Pro Artist Case off the Inglot Cosmetics website. I'm a huge fan of Inglot so I figured what better way to support the makeup industry than to purchase one with one of my favorite makeup brands embroidered on it. :)

I can't wait to use my Zuca as a carryon case because it is permitted in the overhead bin of airplanes (However, not all Zuca bags are. I would recommend researching their website for more information about that). As a makeup artist train case, it works amazing! It holds so much! I was almost afraid I was going to run out of room to fit things but the utility pouches are extremely roomy and very sturdy. I mean come on, ice skaters throw their skates into these things, I'm sure it can withstand fragile makeup! ;)

The case itself has so many pockets! My favorite feature about the Zuca case is the fact that it has a built in seat! How perfect can this be for travelers and makeup artists? If I'm waiting in a long line I can comfortably have a seat right on top of the case. Or if I'm working on a client that needs a quick touchup, she conveniently has a place to sit down. I can go into more details about that in a different post! Let's get into the makeup!

The photo above shows generally what I would carry with me to a makeup gig. I pack more than I need because you can never be too safe! You just never know what can happen so it's important to bring everything that you feel is essential for yourself and your client(s).

I recommend investing in a brush apron (aka brush belt). I purchased my brush apron from Crown Brush. It's perfect for holding all your face and eye brushes... and more! I like to throw in my mixing palette and spatulas because I use them just as much as I do my brushes.

Moisturizers, face primers, and finishing sprays (and eye cream!) are extremely important to have in your kit. Every person has a different skin type and it's important to prep their skin accordingly before you apply makeup.

IMPORTANT REMINDER: Stay away from products with SPF if your client will be photographed. This will keep them from having a white cast on their face when the camera flashes!

Blush and highlighters are your best friend! I forgot to mention bronzer as well but you get the idea. I like to carry various BHB when I'm working with a client because it allows me to mix different colors that will fit them perfectly.

HINT: NARS Albatross is my favorite highlighter! ;)

Foundation and concealers are probably one of my greatest investments I've made. Since I've purchased my foundation and concealer palettes of different shades, it has allowed me to work comfortably with different clients regardless of their skin tone. With these palettes I can easily mix different shades together to create the perfect match for my clients' skin color. Don't forget your correctors! Don't mistake them for concealers. Correctors CORRECT discoloration such as dark circles and redness. This usually goes underneath concealer.

I'm not a fan of carrying all these lipgloss and lipstick tubes. I do love my lip palette though! This will just have to do for now. I do recommend depotting your lipsticks into palettes because it makes for easy traveling. Plus you can easily mix colors. I'm all about mixing colors together to find a perfect shade for my client. It's all part of being creative!

Eyeshadow primers are a must have for keeping eyeshadow in place all day.

Eyeshadow bases work the same as primers, however; these typically come in various shades that can cater to the look you're going for.

Lash curlers are just important to have. Who doesn't own a lash curler?

Lash glue of course for those false eyelashes! My favorite lash glue is the dark tone Duo.

I never carry single eyeshadows, at least not at the moment! I like carrying palettes and putting single eyeshadows into palettes because they're easier to carry around. I carry all my palettes from neutrals to bright colors. You just never know when your client may be feeling like a chameleon!

I always carry eyeliner in different shades and forms. From blues and purples, to pencil, gel, and liquid. I carry it all! The same goes for mascara. Just make sure your mascara is waterproof because GIRL, you do not want to see black tears falling from your clients' face.

Blotting sheets are perfect for those that are prone to getting oily. Instead of packing on more makeup on their face, try oil blotting sheets to absorb the oils. Less cake on that face!

Velcro hair clips are really great to push hair away from the face. Hair clips can leave dents in your hair so I recommend using velcro hair clips!

Tweezers are essential not just for plucking stray hairs. I use them to apply false eyelashes!

Blending sponges are personally MY best friend. Talk about flawless application! I love this for foundation, concealer, and powder. It's just perfect. I like the ones from LeCosmetique. They're super affordable and they work like a dream! Read my review on them here.

Sharpeners for those stubby eyeliner/lip pencils!

Scissors for cutting, trimming, opening... anything! It's just good to have!

Wedge sponges are great alternatives to using your hands on your client. I try not to ever touch my clients' face with my hands unless I'm just using a finger to lift the eye and what not. When it comes to applying moisturizers, primers, or anything that's usually done with fingers, I reach for these!

Q-tips are essential for fixing booboos!

Makeup wipes are pretty standard. You have to have them!

Hand sanitizer is super important to have! I never start working on a client unless my hands are clean!

Cotton pads are great for removing makeup, fixing booboos, and all that good stuff!

The utility pouches easily stack up on top of each other without falling over. They come with handles so you can carry them if need be, and you can label each pouch accordingly!

Here is my train case with everything in it. Although it looks full, I know it can hold MUCH more! Not to mention the extra pockets and zippers on the outside and compartments in the front flap.

Closed up and ready to go! I love taking this with me! It's so cute yet very professional. You'll definitely be going to town with this case! :) I've also attached my hand sanitizer to the side of the case for easy access.

Clean hands = happy hands :)

OTHER ESSENTIALS TO HAVE:

False eyelashes in varying lengths and styles.
Disposable applicators (eyeliner, lipgloss, mascara).
Bobby pins and hair clips to keep stubborn hairs out of the way.
Chewing gum because nobody wants to have smelly breath when you're working face to face with your client!
Paper towels and tissue for easy clean up.
Rubber bands to keep eyeliners and lip liners organized. I also like to use them for keeping dirty brushes separate from the clean ones!
Hair brush and comb in case your clients' hair is not done yet.
Hairstyling cape in case your client is already dressed. This will keep any makeup spills from getting on their clothes. You would not want that to happen!
Oil-free eye makeup remover to clean up any booboos! Oil-free is the best way to go because it won't leave a greasy residue.
Brush cleaner for when you need to reuse brushes. The brush cleaner from MAC is my fave! It dries your brushes fast so you can easily reuse them in no time.
Business cards are good to give to your client and other potential clients. I like to give them out to vendors such as hair stylists, wedding planners, and photographers. It's a great way to market yourself!
Color wheel is great for helping you choose colors that complement each other. It also helps you to coordinate colors and correct them! For example, in the color wheel orange complements blue. Therefore, you would use an orange or peach color concealer to correct bluish dark circles. The same goes for correcting redness, you would use a green corrector. Get it?
Hand mirror convenient for your client to see themselves close up when you're finished.
