Senior web developer position available

Due to an increasing order book we have an immediate opening available for a senior web developer. As an integral part of the development team you will be responsible for delivering first class web websites and mobile apps across a diverse range of projects.

We are looking for a dynamic forward thinking person to fill this exciting role that will be working on a range of client projects as well as our own service, Map My Tracks.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing websites from concept through to completion. Along the way you should be able to:

communicate with clients on a professional level;
develop design concepts into completed solutions;
organise and implement the project to meet the deadline and budget.

Skills required

To be successful in this roll the right candidate should:

be proficient in using PHP, MySQL;
have a full understanding of AJAX, Moo Tools & JQuery;
have a complete understanding of hand coding accessible websites using XHML and CSS;
have a genuine interest in developing leading-edge websites and mobile apps;
have experience of building websites with a CMS (Expression Engine experience is a must); and
have a basic understanding of SEO principles.

Responsibilities of the Senior Web Developer

Work in a structured support environment incorporating: analysis, design fixes, coding standards, code review, quality assurance, source code management and documentation;
Adhere to department policies, procedures, guidelines and best practice initiatives;
Contribute to the team by sharing new ideas and technologies in meetings;
Work closely with account managers to ensure client satisfaction;
Communicate with all relevant areas of the business to ensure client satisfaction;
Able to identify, diagnose and fix custom code.

It goes without saying that the ideal candidate should be highly motivated, able to adapt to a changing environment, be flexible and able to work through problems. A passion for the cycling, running and the outdoors is an advantage.

This is a permanent position available to start immediately based in our office at the Canterbury Innovation Centre in Canterbury.

Team Sky launch iPhone app for cycling fans

An official Team Sky App for iPhone and iPod Touch, which keeps cycling fans up-to-date with all of the action surrounding pro cycling’s newest team and includes, for the first time, pro rider tracking, launches today.

The Team Sky App, created in partnership with Tinderhouse’s Map My Tracks division, features all the latest race and rider news as well as up-to-date photo galleries that give an insight into the team’s daily activities. Race reports, including the Tour de France, give fans immediate access to reviews, news and photos from the day’s activities. Also included are details of all the forthcoming SkyRide events held around the country on closed roads.

The Team Sky App is the first app to use an embedded version of OutFront within the app. The OutFront all-sport GPS computer, from Map My Tracks, is a comprehensive training and tracking app that lets cycling fans, as well as Team Sky pro riders, track and share their rides live for others to follow on the web. For the first time, fans can follow their favourite riders live or replay a training ride, all from within the app.

Team Sky is at the forefront when it comes to talking to their fans and using social media to keep fans informed. The Team Sky app takes things one step further with Twitter and Facebook integration that lets the pro team riders notify their followers as soon as they start riding so they don’t miss out on the action. Once live, followers can watch their progress on the app or online at www.mapmytracks.com.

When not out riding, users of the Map My Tracks powered tools can access their activities on the www.mapmytracks.com website that provides a range of helpful tools to keep track your performance. With an active community of sports enthusiasts that includes cyclists from around the world, Map My Tracks lets you share rides and compare the performance against thousands of other rides and routes. The F1-style performance telemetry lets users measure speed, pace, calories burned, elevation gain or loss and much more while out on their rides.

The launch of the Team Sky App,will mean that participants of the forthcoming Sky Rides can benefit from the same technology as the Team Sky pro riders and track their rides for others to follow in real time.

The Team Sky iPhone App is a free app and will be available to download next week from the Apple App store. Access to the training tools powered by Map My Tracks is available to iPhone 3, iPhone 3G and iPhone 4 users as a one-off purchase for £2.99. iPod users get all the latest news and features from the team but due to the lack of GPS in the iPod the training tools are not available.

Air Festival goers get interactive

Our work on the Bournemouth Air Festival iPhone app is now live in the app store ready for festival goers to download from iTunes App Store .

For the first time ever, the Bournemouth Air Festival has it’s own iPhone app that gives visitors to one of the UK’s largest free events all the facts and figures of the air displays, event attractions and schedule of events.

Tinderhouse has worked with Bournemouth Tourism to design and develop this interactive app that features a venue map showing all the locations of the event attractions, amenities and facilities.

Team Sky add Map My Tracks to their roster of technological partners

Map My Tracks, a division of Tinderhouse and Team Sky announce new four year partnership to exploit performance GPS tracking. Following the news last month of the launch of OutFront, a comprehensive multi–sport iPhone app for sports enthusiasts, Map My Tracks have today announced a 4-year deal with professional cycling’s newest and highly-publicised team, Team Sky.

The deal will see Map My Tracks and its iPhone app OutFront become part of Team Sky’s racing and training weaponry, and will enable its athletes to be tracked as they train in pursuit of success this year.

Map My Tracks, and its mobile applications provide F1-style performance telemetry enabling its users to measure speed, pace, calories burned, elevation gain or loss and much more. The partnership demonstrates that Team Sky is prepared to leave no stone unturned in its quest to become the world’s best pro cycling team, and to use all available technologies in their pursuit of that excellence.

Speaking about today’s fantastic news Map My Tracks’ Nick Tatt said, “We are delighted with our new partnership with Team Sky. We are looking forward to working closely with the team’s performance coaches and riders to provide real-time performance tracking solutions that will help the team achieve their goal of becoming one of the world’s leading cycling teams. Franco and Formula Fun gets a face lift

The hottest new property in childrens’ animations gets an online facelift by Tinderhouse.

The Franco and Formula Fun website has been updated to reflect the new branding and showcase the two minute animation that has been submitted for produced for the forthcoming Global MIPJunior Licensing conference.

We’d like to congratulate the team at Formula Fun Entertainment for being shortlisted in the ‘Best Newcomer’ award at the conference.

Mobile web development just got easier

Nokia have released a few new plugins that let web developers quickly extend web content to mobile devices.

This being a Nokia initiative means that the plugins help create content for some of the most popular S60 devices on the market. Initially this covers S60 3rd edition FP2 phones which provides a very comprehensive baseline for compatibility across Nokia, Samsung, Lenovo and LG devices.

So why is this helpful?

Developing mobile content or mobile applications is not always straight forward. At least it is not as straight forward as web content. It might sound like an obvious thing to say but you might also think that because mobile web content tends to be less comprehensive or complicated in layout that it should be easier to do. Not so. Given the lack of consistency in browsers and network/carrier compatibility it makes developing mobile content and mobile applications a time consuming process.

Having access to plugins that streamline this development process can only be a good thing. If they do deliver on improvements in compatibility and development efficiency we stand a chance of bringing mobile content into the main stream. Something that I don’t believe has happen just yet due to the interaction limitations that most mobile web browsers have places on developers in the past.

Formula One for kids

Over the past few months we have had the pleasure of working with the team at Formula Fun Entertainment to help bring their vision of Formula One to young children on the web.

In anticipation of the new Formula One season the new website is now live. Franco and Formula Fun brings the excitement from racetrack into the playroom and makes watching Formula One a real family experience.

Tinderhouse’s work involved capturing the spirit of Formula One and designing a site that young children can relate to and interact with. It features an interactive story book read by Murray Walker and following on from the launch of the site a range of interactive games will be added to the website to further enhance the Formula Fun experience.

and much more besides.

We’ve had great fun working on this project. Not least because we’ve been working around a subject that we are all passionate about.

Happy birthday Tinderhouse

A big happy birthday to Tinderhouse, now six years old.

It was back in January 2003 that we first opened our doors for business and started to take our first few steps on the road to building what is now Tinderhouse.

Six years on and we have been blessed with working with some great clients in a range of sectors from financial services to the automotive industry. In that time we’ve designed and developed all manner of websites for our clients and ourselves; we’ve helped to get numerous businesses working on the web and have also found the time to launch a few products of our own.

As with all companies, what we do at Tinderhouse is a team effort and what a team we have. On a personal note, I can’t praise and thank the team enough for their efforts.

A big thank you goes out to all our clients that have supported us over the past six years and we look forward to working with you over the next six years!

Whitehouse Bexleyheath upgrade to Tinderhouse's dealer management system

After having first helped Whitehouse Bexleyheath target local web uses with a range of SEO services we are pleased to announce that they have upgraded to using Tinderhouse’s dealer management system.

Whitehouse Bexleyheath are one of the UK’s largest Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep main dealers and are one of the first UK car dealers to benefit from using Tinderhouse’s new dealer management system (DMS). The DMS allows Whitehouse Bexleyheath to take control of their website publishing and is specifically designed to market their cars to a local, and national audience.

The DMS provides a comprehensive suite of tools that allow car dealers to easily advertise and promote new and used car stock. It comes with a number of ways to distribute and syndicate the used car stock to key dealer portals like eBay Motors, Auto Trader, Motors and Google Base.

As part of Tinderhouse’ work a new dymanic web site design was delivered that promotes and cross sells other stock to website visitors.
