I have been on blog hiatus for more than a year now. Last month, I decided to go back to blogging. Whew! And it took me one month to really go back.

For my comeback post, I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to Ms Audrey Tan-Zubiri for featuring me together with my 3 mommy friends in her article at the Philippine Daily Inquirer published last Wednesday, 17th of July, entitled Mommies Who Blog, thus also the title of my blog post.

I was surprised when my mommy friends told me that Ms Audrey wanted to interview us. I didn't even know for what it was, but, I still decided to meet up with them. She interviewed us about our blog, our life, our mommy group (Avenue for Mommies Online). It was not really an interview, it was more of just getting to know each other. We just talked, laughed, eat, talked, laughed, eat, well you got the point. I was so surprised that the more than 5 pages of notes that Ms Audrey got would turn out to one great article.

I share this with all the AMO Moms whom I have been friends with for almost two years, to their babies and also to the daddies as well. And of course, to my husband and to my son, who never get tired of joining the AMO family in our events and gatherings :)

I look forward to blogging more (hopefully!) about anything under the sun :)

Rockin’ Party Supplier Feedback: Fotostyle

Photobooth is one of the most popular souvenirs in every party, whether it be a wedding, debut, baptism and birthdays. During Jabe’s baptism, I didn’t opt to get a photobooth, but this time, for his 1st Birthday Party, we decided to hire one, so the guests can have additional souvenir or remembrance apart from the memories, prizes and lootbags they will be bringing home.

We got Fotostyle. The reasons why we got them:

They are the only photobooth supplier that is accredited to our chosen venue (if I get a not accredited supplier, I will be charged with electricity fee)
I got to see their sample print-out during the Grand Food Tasting at Casa Camba and I can say I like the quality of the print
Their packages are really affordable
They are easy to transact with

I got their Package C which is worth Php6,500. This package includes the following:

Personalized photo layout
Unlimited prints in 4R for four hours (stop time is not included)
All prints with photo stand OR double prints <---- I chose the double prints
High Resolution Soft Copies in DVD CD <---- I got this one right after the party!
One Onsite technician <--- they were two during the party

To block the date, I was only asked to deposit Php 1,000 pesos.

The layout they designed was patterned to the party invitation I sent them. Though I had a little problem with this, since they only sent the layout 6 days before the party and that is after asking for an update twice. Anyways, the layout was very neat, and just the way I wanted it.

Another milestone and goal reached!

I was supposed to write a series of blog posts as supplier ratings for my son, Jabe's 1st birthday party. But I can't help but write this one first :)

Six months and eleven days since my post about my Odesk Milestone: 10,000 Working Hours (dated 05 December 2012) and also three months and six days since my post about my Odesk Milestone: 11,000 Working Hours (dated 10 March 2012). And now I am here, happily posting and sharing that I have reached my goal of 12,000 Working Hours (tracked hours only!)

- to all the work and tasks

Simple Celebration for the Birthday Boy

Jabe turned one on May 31. It is a Thursday, and his party is scheduled on a Saturday.

We had a mini and simple celebration for his birthday.

We had cake, empanada, chicken, and of course, pancit for long life. :)

May 31, 2012 at exactly 2:50 am when I gave birth to my son, Jose Ariel Benedicto Reyes-Emeterio at Manila Doctor's Hospital.

He is our angel in disguise. Ever since he came into our lives, life has been great! Blessings were continuously pouring. We can't ask for more except for good health for Jabe.

As our way of saying thanks, we celebrate his monthly birthday through a simple celebration.I didn't let his monthly birthday pass by without buying a cake for him.

Jabe: The Tiny Tots Baby

We came across Tiny Tots shop at the Mommy Mundo Bazaar last November. We were so fascinated with the designs and captions in their onesies and shirts, that we bought Jabe his first three TinyTots onesie. We chose the onesies with the tuxedo design, with the “I make noise” caption, and also the “I am not pooping , I am just thinking hard” onesie.

Jabe used the tuxedo design last Christmas. The “I make noise” last New Year’s Eve. And the other one when we went shopping.

Jabe received a Tiny Tots onesie with the caption “My sexy Tita gave this shirt” given by one of his Ninangs.

Then come Expo Kid last March, we again went to Rockwell Tent to go and buy another set of Tiny Tots onesies for Jabe. This time, his dad bought him six onesies. With the following captions, “Mana sa Lolo Guapo”, “My mom and dad rocks”, “Future heartbreaker”, “Daddy and I agree: Mommy is the boss”, “ Smart like Daddy! Cute like Mommy”, and also the red tuxedo design.

TinyTots sometimes conduct online sales wherein most of the items are on a discounted rate of as much as 70%. During one of the sales, I was able to buy Jabe the following: a onesie with the caption “I’m perfect, my mom’s perfect and dad is…around here SOMEWHERE!!”, pants and a shirt with tuxedo design, a diaper pocket for me, and also bought the “Rockstar in Training” onesie for my nephew Chrian.

Our last purchase was during the Expo Mom event at Rockwell Tent last April, I bought 4 shirts for Jabe, with the following caption: “Handsome just like Daddy, “Daddy knows a lot, but Mommy knows everything”, “Watch out here comes trouble”, and also “Good looks run in the family, I got mine from my Lolo & Lola”, and bought also one piece of the Bandana Bib.

We are fond of statement shirts that is why we love Tiny Tots! I look forward to buying more TinyTots shirts for Jabe :)

Nyumi Child Seat

Having a baby or toddler in the house requires you to have different pieces of furniture. When the baby hits 6 months and ready to be introduced to solid foods, one thing that always comes to mind (aside from food) is do you need to buy a high chair?

In my case, Jabe was introduced to solid foods as early as his second month, he learned how to sit by himself without support when he was 4 months old, he sits on a chair without support whenever we eat, so I decided that I don't need a high chair. But as days pass by, he can't seem to stay in one place for a long time, he is very fidgety, he loves to move around, making it impossible for us to feed him while sitting on an adult chair. Thus, we looked around for a high chair, to my dismay, the cheapest one I saw was around 4,000pesos, and the design and the material is not too sturdy. The best ones ranges from 8,000 - 15,000pesos, which is way too expensive! There is also the portable seat that you can strap on the seat but also cost around 3,000pesos. High chair being a bit expensive is the reason why we didn't buy one for him.

I decided to just buy him the Nyumi Child Seat - travel high chair. At first, I was a bit hesitant on buying it, thinking that Jabe might fall if I put him on it. But as with all baby things, adult supervision is really important.

Jabe has been using his Nyumi travel high chair at home and sometimes to restaurants where high chairs are not available so I make it a point to bring it with me anywhere we go.

Its 4 ties and 2 harness makes it very safe. (again, adult supervision is still required!) It can be strapped to any type of chair, we have used it to a wooden chair, monoblock chair, tiffany chair, etc. It is easy to carry, fits in my bag. It is washable as it is made of fabric.

But the downside of this is Jabe can't reach the table top, making it impossible for him to eat by himself unless we buy him a small table that he could use while eating or ask someone to make him a wooden chair that we can just place above the adult chair and have the Nyumi travel high chair strapped on it.

This is a late post about Rustan's & Chicco Philippines' Mommy & Me Event last May 20 at Rustan's Shangri-la. The event was a 2-day event, one was held last May 19 at Rustan's Makati. I attended the one at Shangri-la.

With me was, of course, my son Jabe, and my two sisters.

It was great for Chicco to set-up a play area with lots of toys for babies and kids to keep them busy while we, the parents, are listening to the talk.

Main speaker was Nanay Nona who is one of the founders of Breastfeeding Philippines, and definitely the person whom you can turn to when you have problems and issues about breastfeeding. I was surprised to learn a lot from her talk, though I was not able to fully grasp everything because I had to attend to Jabe from time to time. Last Day of Swim Class

Today is Jabe's last day of swim class under the Bert Lozada Swimming School at Ace Water Plaza. As in my previous post, he was enrolled in the My Baby and Me Class Level 1 (Water Explorer) - Starfish.

Jabe's Progress Report Card

The 8-day class is focused on not only making the kids feel comfortable in the water but also to develop their socio-emotional and cognitive skills. Jabe slowly progresses during his 8-day class. His ratings started from the lowest rating that can be given but ended with a lot of STARS (highest ratings).

For his socio-emotional skills
- he is now more comfortable swimming with other adults such as his teachers
- he does not cry every time his teacher gets him from me as compared to the first 2 sessions wherein he was crying or just in his usual poker face expression
- he now loves to play in the water most especially if he is given toys

For his cognitive skills
- he, of course, loves the toys they have at the pool. he totally loves throwing them.
- whenever asked to shoot the ball in the basket, at first he just holds on to it, but now, he can shoot it at the basket with same colored balls
- he recognizes his teacher's voice whenever he is being called. he not only turns to look at who is calling him but he also gives them his sweet smile
- he is now very noisy, he babbles, giggles and shrieks. joins in the songs. but he still hates "bye byes"

For his swimming milestones
- no crying when left with his teacher
- sits on the pool ledge and does not jump
- loves splashing in the water
- does not cry everytime water is poured from back of the head to his face.

- can now float on his back (with assistance) on a more relaxed position, it is like he's just lying on his bed, he's not raising his head anymore or pushing himself up.
- loves the side lying position and the hug position, most especially when he has to go and get the balls/toys at the other side.

- can sit/move/crawl and cross the "magic carpet" (floating mat) provided that there are toys at the end of the mat (with assistance)
- he can now hold at the pool ledge much longer

But
- he is lazy when told to kick his legs hehehe . . . if asked to kick his legs, he just look at his teacher, smile and imitates teacher while counting 1 to 10
- holds at the pool ledge much longer but too lazy to move from one end to the other, need to assist or tell him to do so, unless he sees the toys at the other end

Today, officially starts his 3-week break. Next class will start on June 18.

He's promoted to Level 2 - Puffers. Yey! So happy that he did not need to repeat Level 1. Congrats baby, keep it up! :)

Jabe’s First Real Encounter with Jollibee

Last May 1, Jabe was invited to Dominic’s 1^stBirthday, son of a a fellow AMO mom, Mommy Sherrybe. The party was held at Jollibee Makati Ave at 1pm. We arrived at the venue with Mommy Edna and her son Vince. As always, Jabe initially was in his usual poker face reaction, but eventually he was his usual self, smiling while walking/sprinting all over the place.

As with all birthdays at Jollibee, Jollibee the mascot is always the special guest. He usually dance and join in the fun. Jabe was in total awe when Jollibee arrived, most especially when he saw Jollibee dancing. The past months, he only see Jollibee the statue, but this time he saw Jollibee dancing and having fun.

At first, Jabe was only looking but only after a few minutes, he wanted to walk and go to Jollibee already. Even while eating, Jabe was taking a peek as to where Jollibee was.

Swimming Lessons for JABE

Ever since I gave birth to Jabe, I have planned and wanted to enroll him in a swimming class for infants and toddlers. Jabe is not afraid of the water and I have proven that every time we go to a place with a swimming pool. He loves the water. So yesterday, finally! I was able to enroll him at Bert Lozada Swimming School at D'Ace Water Plaza here in Kapitolyo. He will be attending the early morning class of 9-930am which is the class for his age group.

Again, I showed him the pool area, and as soon as he saw it with all those kids having their swimming lessons, he was literally jumping for joy. Thank goodness we are only at the viewing area and the pool and the viewing area is divided by a floor to ceiling glass, or else, Jabe might have run and jumped in the water. He even cried when I told him we need to go home and he won't be starting his lessons that day. Just need to assure him that we'll be back to Ace Plaza for his lessons and I showed him his ID and documents.

He'll be starting his lessons on the 7th of May. It is a thrice a week lesson, and his last day would be on the 23rd of May. Jabe would only need his swim nappies, no need for a swimming cap since he does not have much hair hehehe. . .As for me, since I will be accompanying him, I will need a swimsuit and a swimming cap.

I paid a total of Php 4,850. The 3x a week lesson for the My Baby & Me class is worth Php 4,500. And an additional Php 350 as registration fee.

After he finish this class, if the swimming school will be offering the next level for Jabe at the Ace Plaza, I am pretty sure I will still enroll Jabe even if it means that he'll be going to swimming lessons the whole year. At least, he'll have something else to do.

Medela Moms Summer Seminar - How to Increase Mily Supply

For the past months, Medela Moms already had a series of seminars. They had the following:

And this coming April 28, 2012, Medela Moms will be having a Summer Seminar entitled How to Increase Milk Supply (Breastfeeding Tips!). And I am planning to attend this one. I have been breastfeeding Jabe for 10 and a half months already and I plan to do it for as long as I could. Though milk supply is still great right now breastfeeding tips on how to increase it is something I am most interested to know.

RCBC Account Suspended - Phishing Email

This morning, i received an email with the RCBC Account Suspended. I think this is not the first time that I have received an email like this one. I have received one from RCBC, Metrobank, Unionbank, Chinabank, and Standard Chartered once a month. I always mark it as spam or just delete it. Why? Because I don't have an account on these banks except for Chinabank.

These are just phishing emails that would ask you to clink on a link to "activate" your account.

Phishing emails are usually sent generic and not personalized. It will not have your name title (Mr / Ms / Mrs / etc) or even your name . Looking at the photo above, it only said "Dear Customer"

As for the link, the link posted is

But if I hover my mouse on it, it will point to this URL

Never click these links. Just delete the email.

#5 Cloth Diapering Myth -- Cloth Diapers are Worse for the Environment than Disposables

OK, here’s the daddy myth of them all – people are saying that cloth diapers are bad for the environment! Oooh, this myth just eats us up inside.

Let’s talk common sense here.
Is it better to reuse something or throw it away?
We’re pretty sure you’ll say, “Reuse” – so dispelling this myth is a no-brainer.
Here’s how reusing cloth diapers is better environment:

Raw materials, packaging and shipping resources are only needed once to manufacture cloth diapers.
- Disposable diapers are in constant use of our Earth’s precious resources and it's not like they're recyclable either.
There are no plastic trash bags full of icky diapers when you cloth diaper.
- Our disposable-using friends wrap their stinky diapers in small plastic bags and then in a larger plastic bag. These stink bombs will never decompose!

- Disposables create plenty of trash, filling up the trash trucks, which require more energy to haul away and process.
You wash your clothes and dishes rather than toss them – why should your diapers be any different? The water used to wash your diapers is nothing compared to the energy, resources and water it takes to manufacturer disposable diapers over and over again. It just makes sense.

#6 Cloth Diapering Myth -- Daycares Don't Allow Them

Most moms assume their daycares won’t let them cloth diaper, but few moms have ever asked or tried. We suggest you talk to your daycare provider about it before making any decisions.

We put together a little daycare cheat sheet for you too, showcasing 5 tips to encouraging your daycare provider to use cloth diapers.

Tip 1: Demonstrate Cloth Diapering – many providers have never seen a FuzziBunz before!
Tip 2: Recommend a Trial Period – trying is better than committing long-term to something, so your provider will likely be more open to trying it first.
Tip 3: Know the Law – know your rights so you can inform your provider, who may not know.
Tip 4: Let Them Know What’s In It for Them – cloth diapers bring about a greener and less wasteful environment. That is something they can use to better market their center!
Tip 5: Shop Around – there are plenty of daycares out there willing to work with cloth diapers. If one isn’t willing to listen, move on!

#3 Cloth Diapering Myth -- My Husband won't Cloth Diaper

Dads are very capable of cloth diapering. That’s why we know any woman who says her husband won’t use cloth diapers is the woman who never tried to get her husband on board in the first place. It may simply be an excuse for her not wanting to cloth diaper herself.

Think about it – us moms rule the roost (at least we think we do), right? What mom wants and what makes mom happy is generally what makes everyone in the house happy.

If mom wants to cloth diaper baby and she is willing to spend the time to get her husband on board, then this myth of “my husband won’t cloth diaper” would easily be put to bed.

#4 Cloth Diapering Myth -- Cloth Diapers are Ugly and Bulky

Okay, you got us on the bulky part. Cloth diapers are little more bulky than disposable diapers in order for them to absorb. But isn’t that bulkiness better than what disposable diapers use? They use a cocktail of chemicals to keep their diapers slim and trim. We use good old fashioned cloth.

On another note, cloth diapers are anything but ugly these days. In the past, pre-folds and plastic pants were ugly. FuzziBunz changed that. Our diapers come in Kumquat, Choco Truffle, Crushed Berries, and Apple Green. Ugly or cute? You be the judge.

Below are Cloth Diapering Myth I received in my email from FuzziBunz Cloth Diapers.

#1 Cloth Diapering Myth -- Cloth diapers are a lot of work!

It’s not uncommon for busy moms to say they can’t imagine cloth diapering because there’s so much work involved. These moms are sorely mistaken. Cloth diapers are actually pretty easy to use – especially modern cloth diapers like FuzziBunz.
Let’s go through some common questions surrounding this myth:

Are cloth diapers convenient? Yes! No midnight trips to the store because you’ve run out of diapers. No storing bags of stinky diapers until trash day. No hauling out heavy loads of trash to the curb either. Everything you need to diaper your baby is in your house – where it should be!
Are cloth diapers hard to wash? No! In the olden days cloth diapers would require soaking and swirling. Ick! Today’s diapers are washed in a washing machine. Easy breezy.
What do you do with the poop? If I had a dollar for every time someone asked me what to do with the poop, I’d be rich! Liquid poop washes off the diaper in the washing machine. Solid poop gets plopped in the toilet before washing. Solid mushy poop can be rinsed off over your toilet with a diaper sprayer contraption before washing. Done.
Are cloth diapers hard to get on and off baby? No! Durable snaps closures enable you to easily put on and take off the diaper. They work just like disposable diapers.

#2 Cloth Diapering Myth - - Cloth Diapers are Expensive

So let’s get right to the facts and dispel this ugly myth that cloth diapers are expensive once and for all!
Cloth diapers only cost you a few hundred dollars upfront; however, they save you thousands over the next three or more years. Your savings more than doubles if you use FuzziBunz diapers for additional babies as your family grows.

How much do cloth diapers really cost? The average modern cloth diaper costs you about $20. If you bought 15-20 diapers, you’d spend $300-$400.
How much do disposable diapers cost? The average baby will go through 8-10 diaper changes per day. Each diaper costs about $.28. At this rate, you will spend $69.60-$84 per month for an average of 2.5 years. After 2.5 years, you’ll have spent $2,088-$2,520.

All the other diapering costs would likely be a wash. Wipes and a diaper pail are needed for both diaper types. Something like the cost of diaper creams needed when using disposables will cancel out the costs associated with the small amount of detergent required for cloth diapers.

If you do the math, you’ll see this myth is just a myth.

Odesk Milestone: 11,000 Working Hours

December 5, 2011, when I made a blog post about an Odesk Milestone of 10,000 Working Hours. (see post my post Odesk Milestone: 10,000 Working Hours). That time, my goal was to reach 12,000 personal working hours by December 2012. Neither did I expect that this goal is something I could reach even before December 2012. .

Why?

Simply because, exactly 3 months and 5 days since my post last December, I already have a total of 11,013 personal working hours. In just, three months of working, I achieved 11,000, which only means I can reach my goal of 12K in 2012, by June or July maybe and even more by December 2012.

This number of hours would not have been possible to all my clients, new and old, who have put their trust on me. I am totally grateful to them for all the work they given me. And, of course, I am so happy and grateful for all the blessings that God has been showering me and my family for the past years and months. hmmm...I think I have already said this in my last post hehe . . .

Modern Lightings

We recently transferred to a new house, it is rented, and we can only make minimal renovation to it. We can't really make it into something like our dream home. But, one thing we can do and make it look good without doing the need of installing permanent fixtures would be to make use of Contemporary Wall Lights, like those that I have seen at the Modern Lighting Website. I really like the Perspectives Coupe to be placed at the wall beside the stairs. When lighted, I am pretty sure that the stairs area would really look beautiful.

Apart from the Wall Lights, their modern table lights are perfect on the bed side table but as well as at the living room. I specifically like the Currey & Co. Hepburn Table Lamp in Antique Brass/Black because of its modern style shape, perfect for the living room and I am sure my visitors would love to it as well. The Mirano Table Lamp from Trans Globe can also be used at the living room and be used as a table centerpiece.

Looking at my posts. I have been gone for exactly 27 days! That is really long!

It had been a crazy 27 days. But the best part was we were able to transfer to a new house. It was a goodbye condo, and hello house month for us.

Contrary to what other people thought, we are only renting the house. How I wish I could already afford to buy a new house, and that is one of my goals in the next 4 or 5 years.

The house is merely 5 minutes from Ayie's office (that is without traffic), meaning, he gets to spend more time with Jabe in the morning.

The house has 2 upstairs bedroom, the masters with its own bathroom. yey! The other one will be converted to Jabe and Auntie Jalysa's bedroom, as well as a temporary guest room.

Ground floor, has the the living and dining room, the kitchen, the dirty kitchen and another bathroom. There is a basement, with one more room that would soon be converted to an entertainment area, that is if depending on the availability of funds, and also the parking/laundry area is at the basement.

The house, as they said (for those who have already visited us!), is big enough for the three of us. Well, I said, that is good! We can now invite friends and families over for dinner or get together or something. Jabe has a bigger space to crawl, walk and explore.

In the works for the house, entertainment room, my mini-garden, the guest room and the kitchen. The kitchen needs a wonderful gas range with oven :) . . .AND also, I have not yet finished unpacking things. We still have a few (?) things at the condo that needs to be transferred here.

Am I rambling? I just type what comes to mind :) Sorry for that. Anyways, I am now back to blogging. Hopefully, I can update this again everyday :)
