Digboi Centenary Museum, Tinsukia ; An Unforgettable Walk Through 100 years of Oil =

Standing close to the Historic Discovery Well No.1 at Digboi, in close proximity to the vintage oil producing field of 1001 Wells, The Digboi Centenary Museum is first of it’s kind in India. As part of the centenary celebrations of the first production oil well in India, the Assam Oil Company (part of Indian Oil) established a museum of the history of the Assam oil industry, behind the refinery at Digboi, which opened in early 2002. There is a fair amount of preserved machinery present, much of it stationary steam.

Digboi Centenary Museum General Information For Visitors =

1. The Museum will remain open from Tuesday to Sunday, Monday Closed

2. The Museum will be open from 10.00am to 6.00pm

3. Tickets Rs.10/- per head. For Students in Groups carrying ID cards Concessional Tickets @Rs 5/-

4. Visitors are not permitted to carry their Possessions inside the Museum.

5. Photography is Not Allowed inside the Museum….

Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Children Park, Margherita, Tinsukia

Margherita is located around 36 kms away from Tinsukia. The Coal Queen of Assam, Margherita is nature's own paradise. Margherita is a true gift of nature. It was the British who, exploring oil and coal, set up a company here, the first of its kind in the state called 'the Assam Railways and Trading company' as early as 1881. Margherita is famous for plywood products and the first plywood factory was established here in 1924, which happened to be the fifth in India.

Today I am going to share a few beautiful pictures of “Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Children Park” of Margherita, Tinsukia. The Children park is a small but very beautiful one.

Today on 5th of February 2012, the 1st “Tinsukia Pet Show” was organized by “Pet Wellness Society Of India” with the help of “Dr.Sarma’s Animal Care Home” and “Playback Singer Mousumi Das” at “Chaliha Nagar Play-Ground” of Tinsukia District.

Assam Sahitya Sabha 2012, Ledo ( 7th yearly Adhiveshan )

7th special yearly Adhiveshan of Assam Sahitya Sabha begins at ‘Ningrula Sammanay Khetra’ in Ledo, Tinsukia. The four days event starts on Feb 1 and ends on Feb 5, 2012. With many small and big events including the inauguration of ‘Mamoni Raisom Goswami Tributary Book Fair Entrance‘, ‘Book Release‘ events and discussions on literature with prominent litterateurs, the Sabha will emphasize on promoting culture and literature of Assam and its neighboring states. How To Reach Dibru-Saikhowa Festival-2012 and Complete Schedule

Like the previous year, this year’s DIBRU SAIKHOWA FESTIVAL is organized by Tinsukia District Administration and DRDA at Guijan Ghat starting from today. This festival is very popular not only in Tinsukia or Assam, but many people around the world know about this famous festival and want to know more about it. First of all you may want to know that this year’s “Dibru-Saikhowa Festival-2012 “ is going to be held at Guijan Ghat on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of January 2012.

This festival is full of fun and excitement. If you are one of those person who want to know more about the Assamese Culture, then you should definitely visit this festival. Below I have posted the complete schedule of this festival. This schedule is taken from official DRDA website so you can consider this schedule to be accurate.

Click on the above image to see the map in Higher-Resolution. If you live in Tinsukia then you already know how to reach “Guijan-Ghat” but incase you don’t know, you can follow the above map. But if you are visiting tinsukia for the first time, then first follow this map and go to the “Zero-Point” ( look at the center of the map). from there you can use our local transportation medium to go to the Guijan-Ghat. If you find any difficulty finding these places, then you may ask any local person. As Tinsukia is nor a very huge City, almost anyone will be able to show you the way.

Railway Heritage Park of Tinsukia, Assam, India

The Railway Heritage Park cum Museum at Tinsukia has been set up at the confluence of two historic Railway systems of North eastern India. Namely the Dibru Sadiya Railway (DSR) and the Assam Bengal Railway (ABR), which were linked at Tinsukia City on 1st March 1903. The Museum has adopted DSR & ABR as its prime themes. in addition, it also contains a small gallery dedicated to Daijeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR), which is a World Heritage site declared by UNESCO. Designed in the form of a Park, the Museum showcases the rich heritage of Indian Railways in general and that of Northeast Frontier Railway in particular. Among its special features are the Air Conditioned Indoor Exhibition Gallery modeled after the Historic Lekhapani Station of Dibru Sadiya Railway, Virasat – the Heritage hall, which houses vintage Steam & Diesel Locos of Meter gauge era, and an Air Conditioned Seminar Hall on Wheels. An original Loco turntable of 1892, built in U.K. and bridge Pillars built between 1894 & 1898 stand proudly in the Museum today and remind us of the untiring dedication of Railway Pioneers of the 19th Century. The Children’s Park, a Toy Train For joy rides along with a Mini Station, coupled with gardens and fountains promise a unique experience to young & old alike to enjoy and simultaneously learn about the great legacy of the Indian Railway System.

If you are visiting Tinsukia for the first time then you can locate this “Railway Heritage Park” very easily as the park is situated beside the main Tinsukia Railway Junction. The park remains open 6 days a week ( Monday Closed) and the Timing is 3.00pm to 8.00pm. Even though the park is open till 8.00pm, but you have to enter before 7.30pm. Actually 8.00pm is the closing time. Ok, now let me tell you that to enter the Park you have to pay a very small Entry Fee of RS. 10. but if you are baby ( below 6 years) then congratulation, you can get away with only RS. 5.

Maguri–Motapung Beel Of Tinsukia, Assam

Maguri-Motapung Beel of Tinsukia District is a wetland complex which is a part of the Dibru Saikhowa Important Bird Area (IBA IN-AS-13) but located just outside the Dibru Saikhowa National Park and Biosphere Reserve. ‘Beel’ is the local name for a lake with marshy areas at the edges. Maguri-Motapung Beel is located in the south bank of the Dibru River, which is a channel of the mighty Brahmaputra River. The Dibru Saikhowa National Park is located in the northern bank of the Dibru River. The Beel is connected to the Dibru River by a system of channels and is very rich in aquatic life. Since the area is not protected, it is heavily used for fishing and grass collecting. However, it is still very rich in biodiversity and is important for conservation of waterfowl and grassland birds.

Sunset At Guijan Ghat, Tinsukia, Assam

Guijan Ghat of Tinsukia is a very famous place as this is one of the Entry Point for Dibru-Saikhowa National Park . Guijan Ghat is about 10 km away from Tinsukia town and can be easily reached with the help of local transportation medium. The sunset at Guijan Ghat is one of the most beautiful natural phenomenon and you should never miss it. No matter how unromantic person you are, such a beautiful scene will make you fall in love.. Tinsukia is vey famous for its Tea Gardens. Endless stretches of Tea Gardens are very pleasing to the eyes. The greenery encompasses the traveller till he is awestruck. The Tea Gardens here are perhaps the best in the world. In 1823, the British first discovered tea plants in Sadiya and the first tea plantation was started in Chabua of Tinsukia District. (The name Chabua comes from "Chah-Buwa" /tea plantation). There are a large number of tea gardens in the Tinsukia district. The number of tea gardens will be around 120 and the number of small tea Growers have to be around 11000 and the numbers are continuously increasing.

“The Shiv Dham”, as the name suggests is a temple of Lord Shiva. The main attraction of this temple has to be the brilliant architecture of the temple and the Lord Shiva Statue situated in center of Water Kund . If you are visiting Tinsukia for the first time then you should visit Shiv Dham during your trip as it is one of the most popular destinations among tourists in the town. The temple is situated at a distance of almost 1 km from Tinsukia Bus-Stand and can be reached easily with the help of local transportation medium such as Auto Rickshaws, Trakers, and Rickshaws etc. The entrance gate of the temple is open till 12 pm in the morning and in the afternoon session the gates are opened from 2pm to 7 pm in the afternoon. If you are visiting for the first time then I will suggest you to visit the temple in the afternoon during sunset, as the red sunshine make the temple’s architecture very pleasant to watch.

The region of Tinsukia experiences a Wet Tropical Climate and the best time to visit the town of Tinsukia would be during the winter months, as the surrounding regions will be at the peak of their beauty during this time. Winters in the city of Tinsukia are pleasant, and the maximum temperature in the region during this time will range around twenty four degrees (24°C). The minimum temperature during the winters will be around eleven degrees (11°C). Winters in Tinsukia are during the months of October, November, December, January, and February.

Tinsukia is a business city in the Indian state of Assam. It is situated 480 kilometers (298 mi) north east of Guwahati. Hailed as the business capital of Assam, the place has a heady mix of Assamese, Bengali and Hindi-speaking people. The city is changing with the construction of numerous new malls and buildings. In ancient times Tinsukia was known as Bengmora. It was ruled by Sarbanada Singha, a Matak King. The present name of the place came from the Tinkunia Pukhuri (the pond with three sides) located at the heart of the city. Tinsukia is also a major railhead of Assam. Presently it houses the biggest railway junction of Assam. One can travel there either by train or by flight to Dibrugarh and then a taxi. Tinsukia acts as a link to many a towns of the north east of India.

The Dibru Saikhowa National Park situated adjacent to the city is one of the biggest national parks of India and is considered as one of the top Biological Hotspots of India. The mighty Brahmaputra at the northern border and the Dibru river at the southern, the park is literally an island which houses the iconic Feral horses, endangered White-winged Wood duck, the only ape in India, the Hoolock gibbon etc. among thousands of other flora and faunas. It is a bird-watcher's paradise .

The Shiv Dham is a big temple of Lord Shiva with a pond in the middle. The Tilinga Mandir (Bell temple), located at Bordubi, is another Shiva temple where thousands of people visit every day. This temple is famous for its numerous bells( Tilinga ) tied at the branches of a giant Peepal tree to fulfill their wishes. The Tea Estates are worth mentioning.

Tinsukia is located at 27.5°N 95.37°E. It has an average elevation of 116 meters (380 feet).

Considered as the commerce capital of Assam, the district is known for its best quality tea production, wood related products like Kitply, Merino ply, National ply etc. Chamber Road, situated at the center of the town, is the oldest area of business activities especially grocery.

Besides the above, a variety of shops are in this town dealing in garments, electronics, hardware for Tea industry, etc. The Rangagora Road and the G.N.B Road are full of Shops and Malls. Tinsukia boosts some of the finest malls and restaurants in upper Assam which are a good place to hang out with friends and family. The Daily Bazaar is the oldest market. It is spread over a large area where anyone can find many things of interest, like clothes, shoes and cosmetics. The Daily Bazar has also an exclusive fish and meat market; a choice place for those who like non-vegetarian food. Many shopping malls are growing up in the city namely Vishal Mega Mart, Big Bazaar, Atrium Mall etc. Another big mall named ATC Mall at G.N.B Road is recently opened is the first mall in upper Assam with all the modern features.

Tinsukia is well connected by air, national highway and railway. It is only 492 km by road from Guwahati, the Capital City of Assam. The nearest airport is at Mohanbari, Dibrugarh which is about 40 km from Tinsukia with daily connection from Delhi/Guwahati and Kolkata.

Tilinga Mandir (Bordubi,Tinsukia) – A Temple You Must Visit

Tilinga Mandir of Bordubi, Tinsukia is a famous Shiv’s Temple situated at Bordubi, a small town in Tinsukia District of Assam. Tilinga Mandir is about 20 km Driving Distance away from main Tinsukia town and about 7 km from oil town Duliajan. Tilinga means “bell” in Assamese and mandir means “temple” .This Bell Temple is as spiritually and mystically strong as any other temple. There are hundreds and thousands of bells of all sizes in bronze, brass, copper and aluminum that’s tied to the big banyan tree (pipal) and its various branches. People from various parts of India who heard about this temple have visited this temple. According to Hindu Mythology “Monday” is considered as “Lord Siva’s” day and therefore every Monday a huge number of people gather here to worship Lord Siva. So if you are planning to visit '”Tilinga Mandir” for the first time then “Monday” should be the day.
