GREEN MANGO ANYONE?

I was walking along the stretch of Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue in Makati City the other day, when I caught sight of these delicious green mangoes exposed for everyone to see. My mouth suddenly watered like crazy that i had no choice but to stop in front of the mango vendor and buy one nice piece.

I like my mangoes green and very very sour.

Very sour. Very nice.

I like eating my green mangoes with rock salt too, with lots of red & green chili peppers.

The cost? ...Php15.00/piece. Rock salt for free.

STEAMING CHINOIS SUPERBOWL

I was at the Landmark Supermarket the other day doing my usual grocery shopping. Since I was too tired to cook at home (yes, I cook.), I just decided to grab dinner at Chinois Superbowl at the Landmark Food Court.

Even though It was still early in the evening, a lot of people were lined up at Chinois' food stall. Just by looking at the patrons all lined up made me wonder about Chinois' food. Masarap siguro.

White Chicken Meal- Php71.00

Barbeque Liempo- Php81.00

I noticed that they only cook the food once it has been ordered. Their cook must really be busy during meal times because the people does not seem to stop lining up for Chinois' good dishes.

The Soy Chicken was one of the nicest Soy Chicken meals I had. The grated ginger added flavor to the chicken. The BBQ Liempo, on the other hand, was tender and has that nice marinade that tasted like a true blue home cooking/barbeque. By the way, all meals come with a regular-sized soda.

The cost? ...Php152.00. Good for 2 people.

For it's price and taste, I wasn't surprised about the long queue.

PINOY TOPPINGS

A friend told me once to try Pinoy Toppings in SM Makati. Then I'll forget about it because I don't frequent that place as much. After a few days, another friend will mention Pinoy Toppings and how 'tipid' the choices are. Then I'd forget about it because I was just too busy. Then another friend will tell me to go check it out. Hmmm. Well, this time, I didn't forget. Finally, I went straight to Pinoy Toppings one fine day.

Beefsteak Meal- Php79.00

Tapsilog- Php84.00

The meals were very filling. I was surprised to see the amount of rice in my orders. The Beefsteak was surprisingly flavorful and I like the sauce very much. As for the Tapa, the meat was tender and tasty. I had a hard time choosing because of the many dishes/meals that Pinoy Toppings offer. And with their prices, 'tipid' indeed.

The cost? ...Php163.00. Good for 2 hungry folks.

I FOUND BUTTERCREAM

At first glance, it looks like Sunflower Crackers. But once you open the pack, you'll see sugar on top. The name is Buttercream.

The crackers weren't too sweet. It was just right and complements well with the buttery taste of the crackers. I like its crunchiness too.

The cost? ...Php10.00/pack

I bought it in a sari-sari store, so I'm thinking that it's cheaper in the supermarket. Buy na!

KWEK KWEK

Another famous street food.

I went out for a break one day and found myself craving for Kwek Kwek. Sometimes people it call it Tukneneng or I.O. (Itlog na Orange). For those of you who are not familiar with Kwek Kwek, the name may sound exotic but the food is really not. Kwek kwek is a Quail Egg boiled into perfection, taken out of its shell, dumped into an orange batter and fried until the batter is almost a bright, crispy orange. Once done, one may choose to put it into small rectangular paper boats or just skew them into a stick before dumping them in spicy vinegar or sweet sauce.

The cost? ...Php3.00/each.

THE HUNT FOR BACOLOD'S BEST

My last Chicken Inasal meal was last June at JT's Manukan Grille. I missed eating Inasal so I thought of dropping by this Inasal house named Bacolod's Best that I saw along Export Drive in Makati City.

Pecho Meal (comes with Iced Tea)- Php125.00

Pa-a Meal (comes with Iced Tea)- Php125.00

Liempo Meal (comes with Iced Tea)- Php130.00

At night, this restaurant turns into a hangout place for those people who would like to have a drink or two before calling it a day.

Bacolod's Best's Chicken Inasal was a bit salty for my taste. I can't say that it was definitely Bacolod's best because I've tasted better Inasal than what this restaurant was offering. But then, it was still an okay place to eat if you want to ease your hunger. Maybe you can sprinkle calamansi over the chicken and smother it with chicken oil which you can ask from the wait staff to lessen the saltiness of the dish.

The cost? ...Php380.00. Good for 3 people.

INIHAW EXPRESS

I was in Glorietta 4 the other day and decided to have lunch at Food Choices. Choosing between Tuna Town and Inihaw Express, I chose the latter. I ordered Grilled Squid with Chopseuy, Grilled Tilapia and Sinigang na Baboy.

Grilled Squid with Chopseuy and Rice- Php85.00

Grilled Tilapia- Php79.00

Sinigang na Baboy- Php91.00

Eventhough the food looks good, unfortunately, they don't taste as good. All the dishes were salty and lacked flavor. I was disappointed to see both the cook and the cashier just popped the fish and the squid in the microwave to reheat them. As soon as I put the fish and the squid in my mouth, I can already tell that they weren't fresh. I don't know why they called the vegetable side dish as Chopseuy when it was just all sitaw or string beans. Their menu was definitely misleading. As for the Sinigang na Baboy, it was more salty than it was sour.

The cost? ...Php271.00. And that's good for 2 people.

Overall, it wasn't a good meal.

ORION CUSTARD

I dropped by a friend's office and since it was a last minute visit, there wasn't any coffee available that my friend can offer me but there was a box of Orion's Custard sitting beside the coffee maker. The box was bright yellow and the photo looked delicious. So I helped myself to a piece of this soft sweet custard treat.

Honestly, I haven't heard of this Custard offering from Orion and I can say that it was a good thing I discovered it. It was a soft cake with a sweet and creamy custard inside.

The cost? ...Php78.00.

For me, it was a good find.

EARLE'S DELICATESSEN

Whenever one hears the word Deli Shop, one thinks of the word "expensive". True, they might sport products like Italian and German sausages that have names that are challenging to pronounce but they are not THAT expensive as many would think.

Let me introduce you to Earle's Delicatessen.

Roast Beef Sandwich- Php132.00

Hungarian Sandwich- Php90.00

Condiments such as mayonnaise and mustard are available for free. Earle's meat and sausages selections are wide, making me want to go back and try all of them. I liked the meatiness and spiciness of their Hungarian Sausage and the fact that I didn't even have to put anything fancy to dress it up because it was good as it is. As for the Roast Beef Sandwich, it wasn't the best Roast Beef sandwich I've tasted but it wasn't bad at all. The veggies they used were fresh and crisp.

The cost? ...Php222.00. Good for 2 people.
