Yup, you read that right! I'm going to the inauguration. Well, I don't really have tickets TO the inauguration, "only" to DC. But I'll be there - shooting photos of the crowds, myself and everything else!

NOTE: As to why I am posting on Wordpress instead of here... I tried to find an iPhone app that would allow me to upload photos while I added a post and I couldn't find one for Blogger. But I could for Wordpress... What'll happen when it's done? I'm not sure. I'll figure out which one I enjoy more and move all the posts to that one.... So far I'm pretty impressed with Wordpress. Several nice little touches over there.....

Finally! I've been SO insanely busy that I haven't had time to get it up and running until now. And I paid for it many, many months ago. (I'm embarrassed to say how long!)

Anyway, while I still have some tweaking to do and a few pages to redesign, overall I'm really loving the new look. (Thanks, Dean, for the awesome design.)

In the meantime, you'll see that my blog looks different, but still doesn't match my main site yet. You'll hopefully see it be far more seamless in the future. For now, though, I'm testing out Wordpress to see if it will be a better fit for me.

Another gallery showing!

My fourth gallery showing was a BLAST! The music was fabulous, the turnout was awesome and it's always so much fun to see new faces - and old!

Thanks to everyone who was able to make it....

And as a side note, I just added a new gallery on my site for purchasing of fine art images. This gallery will be changing slightly as I implement my new site design so please stay tuned!

Poor Stephanie and her family have had to deal with me putting them off time after time because of conflicts and bad weather in Denver. (I don't get there often for shoots.) But after a year, I finally got to meet then and do a shoot for her - and it was a blast! This beautiful family was so much fun - they were hilarious and so much fun and very willing to hike all over the property to find the best locations. And dealt with the cold like troopers! (It was much chillier than we expected!)

At one point, I had to run back to my car for a minute and got back to find them playing hide and seek - Stephanie had lost her husband and kids! (I found them - man, am I good....) They cracked me up.

Julie and her family are probably my most loyal customer. They are so awesome to shoot... and just wonderful people. Mark is an amazing dad, Matt is hilarious and Zack is adorable. And Julie is not only beautiful, she's always saying the nicest things about my photos... Hmmm, could that be why I like shooting them so much? Heh!

We met up at my old house (the owners were nice enough to offer it as a place for the photos) and wandered around taking a few photos where we'd done them before. Matt definitely loved to mug for the camera. And Zach loved climbing on the rocks!

Jessanne, a senior from Hotchkiss, called me out of the blue to do a senior photoshoot for her. Now, I had been debating on whether or not to do senior photos as I'd heard some interesting stories. But Jessanne was an absolute delight to work with! She was willing to try anything and she was so animated and dynamic I felt as thought all I had to do was press the shutter!

The Rutherfords and the Eldridges

Jess,a good friend who also does a simply amazing job running Little Red Schoolhouse in CB South, bought her sister, Molly, a photoshoot for Christmas last year. After being way too busy for one in the flowers this summer, we scheduled it for the fall. Personally, these are my favorite photoshoots - I just am in LOVE with fall here. And I adore these two families. I had a blast taking photos of them!

Alan and Molly's boys, Alex and Ian, are such great kids and all boy that it was a joy following them with a camera. And Amelia, Tom and Jessica's daughter (my daughter Ellie's good friend), is just so adorable with eyes you can just get sucked into. The camera definitely loves her!!

Fall Family Photos

We try to do family photos in the fall leaves every year - although we aren't always successful. This year, all the family photos of all of us were either blurry or just not what I was looking for. Maybe I'll get someone else to do it next year! LOL!

But the girls were hilarious. I gave Ellie and Sammie some cute little skirts I got in Gunnison on sale and they LOVED them! I let them wear anything they wanted and just shot photos... Here are a few of them.

And, of course, the blurry family photos. Bummer!

Well, my site has been redesigned (including a new logo) and I'm in the midst of working out details to launch my new look! I'm thrilled with the way it turned out and can't WAIT to get it up and running. (If only I could just have someone else set up my site, but I just had enough for the design. Wish me luck!)

Blue Eye

I was thrilled about a month ago when I go and email from the Alpenglow Gallery that 4 of my images were chosen to be shown! I was hoping to get one or two in so to have four chose, well, that just plain rocks....

But the coolest thing - I sold a photo during the opening. I was floored! And ecstatic about it, needless to say.

Wide World (sold!)

Anyway, the show goes through November so please make the trip up the mountain to check it out! You'll find Alpenglow just next to Camp 4 Coffee right as you disembark the bus - in the hallway. Definitely worth checking out - there are some amazing things there!

The Michaud Family

With things so busy for me lately, I almost missed out on this shoot. I had a last minute cancellation and was able to work the Michaud family into my schedule - and I'm so thrilled that it happened! They were so much fun and the setting was just gorgeous. I got to just take photos of the children doing the things children do - my absolute favorite was to photograph! They made it so easy to have such a wide variety of photos... and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute.

The Williams Family

After looking around for the perfect spot for Carol and her family, I came across the Woods Walk. I was stunned at how gorgeous the flowers were there! I literally have never seen that many columbine all in one spot. Amazing!

We did a few family shots and then I concentrated on the kids, Maggie and Jack. They were hilarious! So full of energy and so much fun. Both just wonderful children. They ran around in the columbine, blew dandelion clocks at each other and had a good time - and I had a blast shooting them!

Thanks for such a great photo session, Carol and Stan! It was a delight meeting your family. Have a wonderful stay here in paradise.

Little Red Schoolhouse Photos!

My girls are lucky enough to go to Little Red Schoolhouse and I felt privileged to be asked to do school photos for Jessica and the kids! This was my first time doing shots like this and truth be told, I was a bit nervous. How could I control that many little children? And how the heck could I do all the photos and not have it take most of the day?!?

But it was easy! Not because of anything I did, but because Jessica is so amazing with the kids. Her husband, Thomas, also made it immensely easier by helping me do some of the other important things like getting waivers signed, handing out information and more... And I never could have done it all without their help!

I had a blast doing it and hopefully everyone enjoys the resulting photos!

The groups photos were interesting. The poor seeds just dissolved into tears - even Sammie, my youngest, and she's used to this kind of thing! All the other group photos went well, though, with only a minor amount of photoshopping necessary.

And a few of the parents stayed so that I could shoot photos of their kiddos for individual shots. If I'm asked to do this again, I'll definitely build in more time to make this easier to do!!

I also learned how to create small packages that can be cut out for smaller photos. This allowed me to lower my prices just for this shoot while giving people more choices! I'd love to get feedback from parents that order these packages....

Yoga 4 the People

I got a phone call the other day from Monica, the owner of Yoga 4 the People. She had decided to take the company non-profit and was looking for some new images for advertising, etc. The only problem - she needed them ASAP!

So we discussed a few locations and finally came up with this - it's a small pond on the other side of Rainbow Park (where the pavilion had collapsed) and a huge dirt field. (I'm sure she had a bit of heart failure driving up! LOL!) Monica, her friends, boys and instructors headed towards the pond with me and my girls, who were to be a part of the shoot, as well.

We were truly blessed to have such an amazing day to take the photos! The sky was stunning, the slight cloud cover softened all the shadows and the just bare wind gave a wonderful reflection to the pond. It couldn't have been more perfect!

Oh, and if you're looking for a place to do yoga, I can't recommend Monica's studio enough. It's simply wonderful!

The Morrison Family

As a last minute decision before moving out of Crested Butte, Michelle asked if I'd be willing to get their photos. Problem was, the time frame was very short.... But luckily, my schedule was free and I was able to accommodate them!

Michelle, her husband, Shawn, and their 3 boys were a delight to work with! The boys were hilarious and very easy to shoot - they were handsome and so much fun.

A group of local photographers, The Crested Butte Photography Guild, put together a show around the central theme of "growth" or "decay". Ryan Baldwin, one of the members, offered up his gallery space (970.349.0600) for the show. Because this was my first showing, I wasn't sure how it would all come together, but everyone pitched in and the results were amazing! The photos in the show capture each photographer's personal style. I'll be adding a link to the images when I am able to track it down. But in the meantime, I highly recommend checking it out. The Baldwin Gallery is located at 510 Elk Ave, Suite 1 (just to the north of the Bank of the West at the 4 way stop in Crested Butte).

And what Crested Butte gathering is complete without a few PBRs in the snow?

Cody turns 6 months!

Some of the very first people I met in Crested Butte just over 2 years ago were Liz and Mark. Back then, they had an adorable, happy little boy named Nathan, who is just about the same age as my youngest. Since then, she and Mark have added another precious boy to their family. Cody is all smiles and big blue eyes! Although he was teething and a bit drooly, he was still a joy to photograph! I just loved seeing the wonderful interaction of the family during the more formal shots, but when they just played around in the bedroom, their joy with each other just shined!

We primarily focused on capturing Cody, but Nathan was such a cutie that I had far more photos of him than expected. Here are just a few of the favorites I found going through their photos once.

Neelley and John - Engaged!

I knew this was going to be a fun shoot, I just didn't realize how much fun! Both Neelley and John were so sweet and had such easy going, fun attitudes about the whole shoot. Even when it started dumping snow, it didn't dampen their enthusiasm for each other - or for trying some new, fun shots.

These are just a few of the many photos I got of them! I think you'll agree - it's obvious how much these two truly love each other.

Congratulations, Neelley and John! I'm so happy for you and wish you the best....

Piper (6 months), Hillary and Ruben

Last summer, my sister-in-law, KT, got married to Eric and we had the reception at our house! (It was a BLAST!) Ruben (Eric's best man and best friend) made an amazing fire pit for the wedding that they decided to leave with us as a thank you for having the reception here. And while that was a wonderful gesture, we felt like Ruben and Hillary got the short end of that stick! (It is a hand made steel firepit that too many, many hours to make.)

In exchange, I offered to do some photos for them. I've done some of the firepit (although I admit I still haven't gotten the shot I wanted) and just finished a shoot with Ruben, his wife Hillary and their adorable little girl, Piper. These are a few of the photos from that shoot.

Piper was such a cutie! Her chubby little cheeks, wonderful almost brown eyes and her little smiles and chatter almost made me want another baby! Almost...

2008 Goals

After reading Kate Crafton's goals for 2008, I thought that was a wonderful idea... So once again, I'm copying her. I've never really gotten into "resolutions" because I like to start new things when it makes sense, not relegating them to the first of the year. But goals... well, those seem a bit different.

It's taken me a while to put my goals together, I wanted to have 5 of them and knew I could have good ones, but making the decisions on which ones was a bit tougher than I expected with family in town and Sammie getting sick. But I finally did it....

My 2008 Goals:

FILM - I've been considering all the creative ways I've been using Lightroom - and all the different styles of "developing" that a lot of people are using - and it's got me wondering.... How close are these to film? Do I really understand the base concepts behind them? Are they really true to form? What else am I missing out by not knowing film very well? So I'm going to try to play around with taking photos with film this year. Chris, my husband, has an old film camera (Minolta, I think - I need to find it!) that I'll try out. If I like it, I'll look around at other options, but that's good for now... I'll let you know how it goes!
RECONNECT - I feel as though I've lost connection with many people that I truly care about... Including some of my brothers as well as really good friends. This year is going to be about stepping back, figuring out who is important to me and making sure that I keep them in my life. Not just at a distance - you know, those friends you have that you don't chat with for years and yet it's always so easy to chat with them no matter when you do it? I don't want it to be months or years between connections.
WRITING - While reading others' blogs and self portrait descriptions, I've come to realize how amazing some of them can write. Their descriptions inspire me, their comments move me and they way they express themselves amazes me. So I hope to improve my writing. I don't have any specific goals beyond having more interesting blogs and descriptions for my photos, but who knows where that can lead! As someone who has always hated writing and English (in school), this is a bit of a surprise to me - and I'm excited about it!
SMUGMUG - I actually have two SmugMug sites - my professional one that most of you know of, and my personal one, which is protected. I've been quite good in the last year about editing and updating my professional one, but my personal one is sorely lacking. I'm literally about a year behind in updating it with photos of the girls.... I've gotten behind and just can't catch up. But I will this year! Even if that means slowing down on photoshoots. My personal site is just as important - maybe even MORE important - than my professional one!
ACTIVE - My final goal is to remain active. I live in an amazing place, but I'm definitely at the low end when it comes to being in shape here. But with my life as a mom and photographer (my girls are only in school 2.5 days a week and lately it's been less with illnesses), it's often quite difficult to get out to ski or hike or bike or whatever. But my goal will be to remain active - whether it's doing 5 minutes of yoga, doing a 60 minute skate ski or even telemark ski for 4 hours - I plan on being a very good example for my girls!

I'm not going to put specific time frames or even specific goals around any of these because I'm not sure what they need to be yet. But I'm going to remind myself on a weekly basis that I have a lot to accomplish this year - and that I'm really excited about each and every one of my goals!

And as Kate asked, what are YOUR goals for the year?

Gil, Cooper and Henry

Some of you may remember my photos of Henry in the woods a few months ago.... I was excited to have Lauren, his mom, ask me to shoot some more photos of his older brothers Gil and Cooper. It was quite a different shoot, but relaxed and fun just the same! I enjoyed myself very much meeting her older sons as well as her husband, Brad.

I do have to say, though, that it was really hard choosing photos for my blog! I had many, many others I wanted to include, but didn't want to overwhelm everyone! LOL!

The main goal of the shoot was to get some good shots of Gil, who is going to high school in Santa Fe, NM. (They recently moved from there and he wanted to finish school with his friends.) He was so easy to chat with, smart and a lot of fun. Because of his interest in acting and other arts, I thought I'd play around a bit more with the photos of him.

Cooper, who is 16, is autistic and was interesting to shoot. At first, he wasn't too happy with my pointing the camera at him and many of his expressions were too forced. But once I was able to engage him and get him interested in what I was doing, he really opened up and I had a great time photographing him! I love how he expresses himself with his face as well as his hands and actions.

Henry is a card! When we were in the woods, he was a bit quieter - as well as a few months younger. He's changed a lot in such a short time... In his own environment, he's so funny! He's lively, intent and very easy going.

My Self Portrait Project

Wow! I'm on day 289 of 365... Just crazy how far I've gone!

I started this project mainly to give myself a different type of creative outlet and it's turned into so much more. Exploring how I define my photography, a bit of a blog for my girls to see who I was, an outlet for creativity (LOL!) and even a way for me to see just how much I can stick with it. It's been awesome, fun, annoying, surprising....

Hayden, Trip and Michelle - second shoot!

This was my second photoshoot with little Hayden and he was just as adorable as I remembered! Although he got up really early and lost interest in the shoot quickly, I was still able to capture some cute photos of him and some nice shots of the family!

We met at the base of Mt Crested Butte about an hour before the first lift opened for the season. This year, the snow is so late that this was the only place we could find with reasonable snow - and it was ONLY at the bottom of the Red Lady Lift. We found a few spots around the lift - and then wandered over to the Silver Queen Lift and, as you can see, there was literally no snow under it. But it still made a nice place for a family photo!

Trip and Michelle, I hope you enjoy your photos and that we got the family photo you wanted for your Christmas cards!
