HK Gadgets Not Cheap - LG Prada Inside

I was out of the country for four days celebrating the extended Chinese New Year in Hong Kong. During my brief stay there, I took the chance to check out the gadgets and tech things everyone's raving about when in HK as everything's supposed to be cheaper there as the place is a port region.

Anyway, if I'm correct, the tech hub of said place is Mongkok, also known as Argyle. Here you're supposed to find the best deals in town. But boy was I wrong.

Here's Argyle at 10PM. Lots of people presumably looking for bargains.

One thing that's good in this place is its being ahead of current releases with regards to the hottest tech items. The LG Prada smartphone that's currently being hyped here is on display, being ignored, and is selling for HK$6,300.00. That's about PHP34,776.00 provided the forex rate is 1:5.52, exactly around the ballpark of some local forecasts.

Major tech players here, such as the Fortress chain of stores, sell 8GB iPhone 4's for around HK$4,998.00 and 16GB iPhone 4S's at $6,998.00 if I recall correctly. That's almost the same price here. I reckon you can get brand new iPhones at the local gray market cheaper.

The humble Samsung Galaxy Y, sells at a translated price of PHP7,398.00, which is a couple of yellow bills more than the Y that's being sold locally.

And for what it's worth, most of the people in Hong Kong, even though Samsung has ads of the Galaxy Nexus plastered everywhere whilst Apple virtually has none, carry iPhone 4's and 4S's. I don't know why but western products seem to have more demand here, iPhones literally are everywhere. HTC? I only saw one dude carrying it.

The only thing I found cheap in here, as I'm led to believe, are camera lenses. A dude was giving me a pair of lenses for HK$3000.00, basically HK$1500.00 each, or PHP8,280.00. I don't know if that's cheap or not because I'm not well oriented with cameras and camera peripherals, but the store owner said lots of Flips flock his store because they know everything is cheap in HK.

Camera lenses aside, what I'm saying is this: If you're going on a trip to Hong Kong with buying a steal or two in mind, forget it. Unless you know where to look without being duped, you're not gonna lay your hands on any hot but cheap device. Look and buy locally instead. You'll not only be able to buy at almost the same price (maybe cheaper), you'll also save yourself a lot of time, 5 digits of airfare, and a lot of train ride payments.

Hong Kong ain't as cheap as it used to be, correct me if I'm wrong.

Unbox/Review: The CM Storm Quickfire Rapid Gaming Keyboard

First person shooters (FPS) are one of the hottest game genres around, especially with the release of titles such as Battlefield 3 and CoD: Modern Warfare 3 (which is better is arguable). If you are a heavy player of FPSs on the PC, all that banging and raging on your keyboard would eventually take a toll. Sooner or later you'll replace that thing with another run-off-the-mill generic type if you're not careful. Not if you're rolling with Cooler Master's Storm Quickfire Rapid you won't.

In this respect, we have been graced with a CM Storm Quickfire Rapid for review. Learn more about the Quickfire Rapid after the jump.

The Build

The CM Storm Quickfire Rapid is one heavy gaming keyboard. I've held lots of keyboards and the weight of this Cooler Master release is pretty noticeable. I've knocked on the board itself, and although it may seem silly doing so, I can tell it's pretty solid. It weighs 2 lbs and is as steady as a rock on a flat surface, so imagine how stable it would be when you play a fast-paced game. No more moving keyboards.

The keyboard itself is painted matte black and dark gray—which looks awesome by the way— with the WASD keys highlighted in bright red so you can always exact your fingers at the right keys at every critical moment. The font on the keyboard itself pretty much rings of Modern Warfare 3 giving it that very gamey look. Also to note is the rubber-coated keyboard surface: Anti-slip is always the way to go.

Aside from gaming, the keyboard has all the basic functions of an ordinary keyboard (sans the numpad. Really, who needs the numpad in highly intense games? More on this below) plus some added features such as being able to mute your PC with just two keys.

The CM Storm Quickfire Rapid features gold plated mechanical switches on its insides. Like I mentioned in my previous CM review, companies and gamers alike tend to believe that data is delivered faster in gold plated parts. The USB plugs itself are also gold plated, so there's that.

You can pretty much tug on this keyboard's cord if you ever decide to rage seeing the cable itself is braided. Frankly I only see braids on mid to high-tier HDMI cables and not much else. That or I don't look around very often.

Lastly is the Quickfire Rapid's compact size. Whereas ordinary keyboards extend to a couple inches or so to the right, the CM Storm Quickfire Rapid completely eliminates the numpad key set, giving the player an optimum keyboard-to-mouse reach. You need not bend your wrist and extend your arm by a couple of extra inches just to reach the mouse. Sadly, no macro keys here.

The Performance

Unless you're playing newer shooter games, you'll experience no significant change in keyboard performance data delivery-wise even though the Quickfire Rapid features a 1000Hz/1ms response time in USB mode. It's just too fast for a person to measure in terms of performance. The strong suit of the Quickfire Rapid is its gaming-oriented design. Essentially you'll perform better because the keyboard you're using will not be an office keyboard but a "purely for gaming" one.

Also, if you've experienced a freezing avatar while pressing three or more keys, chances are you've just suffered from ghosting. The Quickfire Rapid sports an anti-ghosting feature which allows you to press multiple keys at the same time at a given situation. I've not tested the maximum number of keys the anti-ghosting feature can handle, but it can safely handle three to four simultaneous presses. FYI anti-ghosting keyboards are a staple on professional gaming tournaments.

On a side note, if you're still using Windows XP be sure to be on SP3. If not, you'll not be able to use this monster of a thing. Fortunately I'm on 7.

Each keystroke on the CM Storm Quickfire Rapid is like tender heaven. You need not exert too much force on the keyboard itself to assure an input. And even if you do, you would not fear of breaking the keys because of its mechanical Cherry MX switches (although I'm not sure if the Cherry MX built inside is of the blue, black, or brown variety. More on this later). The rate of this keyboard before getting worn out: 50 million keystrokes.

Speaking of Cherry MX switches, I'm unsure as to what variety is built into this keyboard. The back label shows a black switch while pressing on the keyboard itself says a blue switch since it's very noisy and clicky. The sound this version of the Quickfire Rapid gives off is akin to a mouse getting clicked. Imagine all that incessant clicking while playing (or typing a document). It would not be a bother if you're on headphones, otherwise you'll get nuts from using it.

By the way, you can do a Windows key-lock on the Quickfire Rapid. If you have ever jabbed the Windows key accidentally, you know first hand how annoying it is to suddenly call the Start menu and disrupt your A-game, only to find out later that you have already died because of said accidental press. The Windows key-lock feature disables the Windows key, so goodbye disruption, hello optimum gaming performance.

Others

Earlier you saw the red keys on the Quickfire Rapid representing the WASD. Turns out that Cooler Master also threw in a key remover and a set of spare key caps for the WASD and Windows keys, which is not only cool, but functional as well. Typing for a college thesis? Just pull out the red keys and replace 'em. Keys filled with biscuit crumbs in between? Pull all the keys and clean 'em.

The box also comes with a PS/2 adapter, which of course, lets you use a USB-ended hardware on a PS/2 port. I doubt it would ever be used though. Or not.

Another point of interest, although not uncommon, are the red lights selected keys—such as the Caps Lock key—give off when pressed. Lights are always a welcome addition to gaming keyboards. Sadly, the characters on the keys itself don't light up, which of course, would've made this gaming keyboard a hundred times more "awesomer" (pardon my word), not that I do mind the extra lighting.

The Verdict

If you like your keyboard rough, tough, and full of heavy metal performance, the CM Storm Quickfire Rapid is for you. With its compact design, excellent feel, and optimum key placement, all your presses would count it's hard to do a wrong press.

However, if you do like your keyboard all dainty and bright, go look for something else. Really, the Quickfire Rapid makes up for the missing macro keys, back lighting, built-in memory, and whatnot with its everything. And if all else fails, you can totally use this thing to smash heads to get even and the keyboard would still be working.

Razer at CES 2012: The Naga Hex, Project Fiona, and Synapse 2.0

CES 2012 has not even concluded yet, but Razer had already shown their aces out. They had a number of announcements over at CES 2012, but nothing is bigger than their announcements of the Naga Hex, the Synapse 2.0, and the Project Fiona.

As you know, Razer specializes in gaming peripherals such as action keyboards and mice. But if you've noticed they're slowly expanding their portfolio out of the peripheral hardware section and into the cloud and PC scene. A couple of months ago they announced the first true gaming laptop the Razer Blade. Now, they have their newest gaming concept: A cross between a tablet and a handheld, the Project Fiona.

So let's start discussing about Razer's CES 2012 releases and hopefully want to buy a thing or two from their company.

The Razer Naga Hex Gaming Mouse

Razer Naga Hex Price and Availability

The Naga Hex sells for US$79.99 (roughly PHP3,500.00) and would be available worldwide in March 2012.

When I think of MOBA games I keep thinking of Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3, especially Diablo 3. That game is rumored to be released at February this year, so if anything, the Razer Naga Hex seems to be the mouse of choice for that spell-filled game.

The Project Fiona Gaming Tablet

Take an iPad, a pair of metal braces, and weld two Nintendo Wii sticks on it. What do you get? The Project Fiona gaming tablet.

The Project Fiona seems to have been taken straight out of the dashboard of a fighter jet cockpit, sans the axle and all the other controls of course. While the idea is far from revolutionary, the Project Fiona concept shows that you can be a winner by taking all the working products out there and then jamming them into one mad-looking device.

The Project Fiona promises to deliver total control and experience in PC gaming in a portable tablet form. This thing apparently mimics the vibrate feature of the Sony Playstation's Dualshock controllers, so you can that when explosions come about in your game you can feel it right through the handles.

This portable gaming crossover also features full multi-touch screen features as all tablets would, but the similarity ends there. The Project Fiona would apparently be powered by an Intel Core i7, so basically you got a lot of power in your hands. That right there surprised me: You can't see a tablet powered by an i7 everyday. Imagine running Need for Speed games in such a portable form. Plus, you can play most PC games, if not all, on the Project Fiona since it's more of a PC than a tablet.

Personally though, I'm a little bit on the negative side on this. I doubt the idea will fly, but hopefully it will. Reminds me of the Sega Gamegear while everyone else was holding Nintendo Gameboys.

Project Fiona Price and Availability

The Project Fiona gaming tablet would sell for below US$1,000.00, a little bit on the pricey side. If this thing proves to be a good sale, then Razer would be a little more profitable in the eyes of investors. Let's not forget what happened to the TouchPad though. The PlayBook seems that it would follow suit anytime. This will truly fly if it can grab gamers away from the iPad.

Availability is on Q4 of 2012. So that's that.

Razer Synapse 2.0

CM COSMOS II Ultra Tower Specs and Features

These days it's all about what's in: A couple of years ago netbooks were the thing, then the Macs came. Now it seems that ultrabooks would be the next "it". Sadly though, none of those can outperform traditional rigs.

I'm a rig man myself. Rigs are powerful, albeit clunky and heavy. You can always add additional cards to slots, replace and remove parts, and of course today's CPU enclosures are all killer.

Speaking of enclosures, I introduce to you the Cooler Master COSMOS II ultra tower: the benchmark for all the enclosures that exist and all that would follow.

First look on this CPU enclosure reminds you instantly of a matte black Lamborghini equipped with a honeycomb grill. If you think about it, the buttons on the topside of the COSMOS II seems to be inspired from a sports car's dashboard. Don't forget the streamlined design—this thing looks like it can go rom 0 to 600 in just 3 seconds.

If you're into extreme gaming or demand that your CPU enclosure handle all the peripherals, cards and HDDs you want, the Cooler Master COSMOS II is the perfect fit for it. For Pete's sake you can fit 13 disk drives on this thing, perfect for running servers.

WWE PPV Schedule for 2012

I'm a big fan of the WWE (aka sports entertainment aka fake wrestling), especially more so because Chris Jericho came back for 2012 to feud with CM Punk.

Anyway, the story of the WWE is becoming more and more interesting because of the developing action of what seems to be a great year ahead. Frankly I'm expecting 2012 to be a good run for the entertainment company. There's the possibility of John Cena turning heel, Chris Jericho feuding with Punk for 3 quarters of the year, and The Rock's overall influence in both WWE brands, namely Smackdown and Raw.

Of course, feuds will end and start at every WWE Pay-Per-View. So after that quick intro, here's the WWE PPV schedule for 2012.

Yeah, SOPA. You heard about SOPA right? I didn't even bother to write an article about it because it's literally everywhere. And with all the internet doom mongers in the US predicting that this and that will and shall happen, everyone who is anyone in the internet is afraid. No, really. It has truth to it. A SOPA-like bill is already in place in Denmark, and it's doing things it was not designed to.

Of course, we know the US. This SOPA bill, hah, it will do stuff far beyond its original concept. There's the PIPA too, albeit it being a milder version. FYI, if this bill gets passed, the "game" will definitely change—for better or for worse I don't know.

How to access websites using SOPA emergency IP list (Windows PC):

1. Go to Start, click Run and type cmd for Windows XP or type cmd in the Start Menu search box for Windows 7;
2. In the cmd console, type in "ping (insert IP address here i.e. the numbers above for your desired website);
3. Open your browser of choice, and type the corresponding IP address on the address bar i.e. the white space above a browser where http://www.example.com is usually located;
4. ???;
5. Profit.

Of course, if you're out of the US you needn't worry. This only concerns people inside the said nation.

Jetpack Joyride hails from the makers of Fruit Ninja, Halfbrick. The game features a guy named Barry Steakfries in what seems is an endless quest to escape a laboratory labyrinth full of lasers, zappers, and missiles with only a machine gun jetpack at his disposal.

If you've been playing your PSP, you might recall that the Barry Steakfries in Jetpack Joyride is the same Barry Steakfries in Age of Zombies. At this point on it's totally obvious that Barry loooooooves guns. Imagine a machine gun for a jetpack.

Anyway, I'm a heavy player of Jetpack Joyride on my iPhone. I enjoy it and my left thumb hurts big time because of too much playing. So I think it's just proper to write a post about Jetpack Joyride cheats, hacks and tips for the iPhone.

Blow a hole in the wall

To blow a hole in the wall, just start a game. Everytime Barry crashes the wall and grabs his machine gun jetpack, that counts as one hole. Repeat as many times as necessary to complete a mission.

Easy gold coins

Try to get as much spin coins as you can in one game. At the spinner, try to get the Barry x2 icon in one row. Your next game will have a x2 multiplier effect on all coins.

Bonus gold coins

Get as many spin coins as you can in one game. Once you get defeated, you have the option to spin all your spin coins or convert each one to 50 gold. The convert spin coin option is at the lower right of the screen (ex. 5 spin coins = 250 gold coins).

Complete "Good Work, Muscat" achievement

Once in the main screen of Jetpack Joyride, press the upper-right tab (the one with the glowing arrow) 20 times (10 times opening the mission slider, 10 times closing the mission slider).

Jetpack Joyride Tips

Always save your coins. Do not buy anything from the stash unless you can finish two missions with one purchase as gold coins are very hard to save up (unless you'll go purchase them online).

One thing worth purchasing online is the Counterfeit Machine. It permanently multiplies your coin rate by 2. It sells online for $0.99.

After 1,500 meters, always try to fly by the painted line in the center of the screen. It will serve as your guide as it is easier to fly away from zappers when hovering in the middle of the screen.

Avoid buying coin packs as much as possible as it will totally kill the replayability of the game. Imagine one million coins for $12.00. You can buy everything available in the stash three times over with that amount.

Your topmost priority should be, aside from purchasing required items from missions, saving up for vehicle upgrades, namely magnets for each vehicle. It will zoom in coins without you trying to expend any effort.

Unforunately there's still no solid Jetpack Joyride cheats or hacks out there. iOS games are very hard to cheat with lots of debugging before it's even launched at the Appstore. Even then, if you can locate glitches it'll just get patched with the next update.

HTC Super Tool Unlock Bootloader Root Download Latest

Justin Barbey and people from XDA Developers recently released a new and improved HTC Super Tool, v2 if you will. But wait, what exactly is the HTC Super Tool v2?

The HTC Super Tool v2 is an all-in-one Windows-based utility which, in one button press, roots, unroots, does a bootloader unlock, performs an S-OFF, disables or enables the HTC Sense UI, unlocks networks, and applies the wireless tether exploit. All this and more in one tight and packed program.

The HTC Super Tool v2 outperforms HTC's own bootloader unlocking tool, the latter being able to only unlock a couple of HTC devices. Even then, if you cannot locate your HTC phone in the following list, chances are high that the HTC Super Tool can do a bootloader unlock on it too. But if it really won't work, quoting from the guys at XDA, "sorry maybe next update."

3. Enable USB Debugging on your HTC device by going to Settings, then Applications, then Development;
4. After making sure that your HTC device is connected, run the run.bat file you've extracted;

5. An option screen will come up and will prompt you for the desired action. Select an action by pressing the corresponding number;
6. Wait for the program to run its course and enjoy.

Again, make sure you have a backup of what you're doing just in case a snafu comes up.

Now that you know what the HTC Super Tool does—that is, unlock the bootloader and root or unroot—and how to use it, go ahead and try it, do it yourself. Gain some skills. Then again, you can just Facebook or Twitter this post and leave the unlocking to the pros.

It's that time of the year again where fans of Chinese Feng Shui read predictions for the following year, 2012 to be exact. Last year we had the Metal Rabbit. This time it's either the Year of the Yang Water Dragon or the Year of the Earth Dragon in the Water Year. Go figure.

Anyway, I took it upon myself to look for websites or articles citing Feng Shui predictions for the Year of the Dragon on 2012. There's lots of articles about Water Dragon Feng Shui articles out there, but I'll shorten them here. Proceed below for Feng Shui Predictions for Year of the Water Dragon 2012.

Excerpt from Feng Shui Today:

The Year of the Dragon – 2012 in the Hsia calendar, is symbolized by two elements; with water sitting on top of earth. According to the cycle of birth and destruction, which governs the inter-relationship between the elements, earth is the destroyer of water and so they are on the destructive cycle and have a conflict relationship. This aspect is the same as the year of the Rabbit in 2011, which is metal over wood, also conflicting elements. Such conflicting elements usually mean the year will not be peaceful with more international conflicts and struggles coming up.

...But the more worrying aspect this year is natural disasters such as flooding and earthquakes. Yang water is powerful ocean water and Dragon is powerful earth, often associated with earthquakes. In history the most serious earthquake on record happened in the years of Dragon. It seems to me that Feng Shui predictions for the year of the Water Dragon in 2012 are a wee bit varying. Some say it would be a prosperous year for Earth and Water Dragons alike, while some are saying that 2012 would be a year riddled with natural disasters because water is incompatible with metal, the metal being the Metal Rabbit of 2011. Apparently water "would rust" the metal.

Ultimately, one's luck and fortune rests on the person. However lucky you are on a given year, if you're not going to do nothing about it then you'd feel unfortunate. It also goes the other way. No matter how unlucky you are for the Chinese, don't let the Year of the Water Dragon 2012 Feng Shui predictions stop you. They're just predictions after all.

Now, doomsayers are a totally different thing. Lots of fortune tellers out there would tell you that the world will end next year. I doubt it.

Tyron Perez Cause of Death: Commits Suicide Found in Car

Another one bites the dust apparently. A few years back I remember Marky Cielo taking his own life allegedly because he can't take none from a broken heart. Then there's former Arroyo sidekick Angelo Reyes. This time it's from another growing actor in the name of Tyron Perez. He was found dead inside his Toyota Altis in Valenzuela with a gunshot wound at the right temple, the .22 caliber firearm used right beside him. Police are leaning towards suicide as the cause of death. He was 26.

A flurry of instant messages at Twitter, some from the media and actors and actresses themselves, confirmed the death of Tyron Perez.

Normally I'm not a guy to gossip, but this one just irks the hell out of me. Now, I don't know anything about Tyron Perez's acting career and stints (except in Momay, where I saw a lot of him against EJ Falcon), but all I see from people who commit suicide, aside from the mentally-challenged ones (could be accidental death), is weakness. Hell, suicide is the easiest way to run away from everything. This dude ain't a real man in my eyes. No matter how heavy a person's problems are, taking your own life is never an option. And to think that this guy was given a tough guy role in where I saw him.

It would be acceptable—at least to me—if his cause of death was from other reasons aside from suicide, or from stupidity. Trust me guys die all the time because of sheer stupidity.

There should be a sales pitch like "Sunk in deep debt? Everyone keeps on chasing you? Don't know what to do? There's suicide! Call right now and we'll tell you how to commit suicide absolutely FREE!"

But hey, don't take this as me bashing the dead. No, that's far from that. It's just that people shouldn't resort to taking their own lives, especially not when the holiday season is around. Don't also take this as a final report. Police are aren't confirming nor denying suicide as the real cause of death because they're still open to the possibility of foul play.

So wherever you are now Tyron Perez, with all due respect to your family and relatives, you should know that you've left people special to you miserable if you really have committed suicide. Rest in peace wherever you are anyhow.

Then again, as the saying goes, there's always sunshine after the rain. Well at least until the Earth gets eaten by the Sun there is.

If you have one of those devices and are not on 5.0.1 yet, update now! The SHSH window is still open for 5.0.1 If you unlock via ultrasn0w or gevey, make sure you only get to 5.0.1 via a custom IPSW! Once you’re at 5.0.1, use the latest redsn0w 0.9.10 to both jailbreak and untether.
If you’re already at 5.0.1 with a tethered jailbreak, you have two choices: either run redsn0w 0.9.10 over your current jailbreak (deselect “Install Cydia” if you do that), or install the Cydia package prepared by the chronic devteam. The patches are the same regardless of which you choose.
Some of you are using a hybrid 5.0/5.0.1 configuration. If so, do not attempt to install this untether over that setup! You will most likely get into a reboot cycle. Do a sync and fresh restore to 5.0.1 then install the jailbreak + untether.

How to Untethered Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 On iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad

Requirements:
Redsn0w 0.9.10b1 for Windows (Run as Administrator) or Mac OS X
iOS 5.0.1 .ipsw file for your device
Apple iTunes 10.5.2

Instructions:
1. Start up iTunes then connect your Apple device. Back up all the contents of your device and do a shift+left click on the Restore button on iTunes. When a window comes up, select the corresponding .ipsw file for your device. Let the restore run its course. It may take a couple of minutes After completion, turn OFF your device while making sure that it's still plugged in to your computer;
2. Run the respective Redsn0w 0.9.10b1 for your platform. Press Jailbreak. Make sure that your Apple device is OFF before you press the Next button;

3. You will now follow a series of timed prompts that will spell the success or failure of the untethered jailbreaking of your iOS 5.0.1 device. Don't worry if you get the timing wrong, your Apple device won't get destroyed;

4. After your phone gets identified, reboots, and gets kernel processed, another dialog box will ask you if you want to Install Cydia, Install Custom Bundle, Enable Multitask Gestures, and Deactivate. Select Install Cydia and click Next;
5. After the "uploading ramdisk" process is finished, your iOS 5.0.1 device will again reboot for 5 minutes or so. Once done, your device is now running on an untethered jailbreak of iOS 5.0.1, complete with Cydia and Springboard.

Congratulations! You now know how to untethered jailbreak your iOS 5.0.1 iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad. Let me warn you though, jailbreaking isn't a fail-proof process. If your device fails to get jailbroken, keep on doing the steps above until you succeed. Three times the charm.

As of this writing, Cydia is being overloaded with eager jailbreak updaters. So if it seems that you can't connect to a repo and all, there's your answer.

And lastly, iPhone 4S and iPad 2 users shouldn't fear. pod2g is still working hard for both devices' untethered jailbreaks as the current release only works for A4 devices. Just give the guy a month or two. He'll come up with something.

What a Difference Years Make!

I was able to visit Metro Manila. There are no automobile dealerships in the small town of Gubat, Sorsogon Province so we had to go to Metro Manila and it was pretty costly getting the Toyota Revo serviced by the dealership supposedly to be serviced once a year with a local mechanic beforehand and we needed a place to stay for the two days with a two day drive there and back; but my mother decided to live a little so we stayed at a nice hotel instead of roughing it.

I almost did not want to go because I was involved with NaNoWriMo 2011; the “National Novel Writing Month is an annual internet-based creative writing project which challenges participants to write 50,000 words of a new novel between November 1 and November 30.” – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia on the Internet.

The trip meant four days of the 30 days during November while not writing on my novel entered with the NaNoWriMo writing contest because I did not own a tablet personal computer with a “word processor” software that I could have brought with me to write even while riding at the front passenger seat of the “Revo” during daylight.

I realize NaNoWriMo is a personal challenged to write a novel in 30 days with no prize money involved just personal satisfaction of writing a completed novel in 30 days and it might take me another ten years to publish a novel and get paid for it, but it was the principle.

My father needed wheelchair access so it was mandatory for me to accompany my parents. I felt like one of the police officers on the old “Ironside” TV show (1967-1975) wheeling around my father at the hotel, just to eat at the breakfast buffet restaurant inside the establishment.

My mother hired a driver that knew the “South Road” and the Metro Manila area, since I could not drive the 14-hour one-way drive to Quezon City and I could not drive the “Revo” to the Cubao commercial shopping area for the yearly service at the dealership and I could not drive the 14-hour one-way drive back to Gubat.

We stayed at The Sulo Riviera, a landmark hotel, in Quezon City to make the trip a somewhat costly vacation for my elderly parents in their mid seventies just to have a personal automobile serviced by a dealership. The last service was on June 2006 and (this time) I was very impressed with The Sulo Riviera Hotel make-over.

The last time I witnessed in person, not just on TV news events, the progress of the Metro Manila area was on December 2008 when my father celebrated his Golden Anniversary from graduating from Medical School at University of Santo Tomas.

Back then, I went around saying that other than Makati City, the Manila area and Quezon City looked dirty or old buildings needed paint or the entire area needed renovation; but it was not poverty and it certainly was not world hunger.

WHAT A DIFFERENCE YEARS MAKE!

The new TOLL highways and the new retail outlets to attract domestic tourism are comparable to any major city of First World countries. It will attract tourism throughout the world and more businesses will develop because of the ambiance so I am so happy for my birth country. The Philippines has ended its poverty.

The capable of success Filipino kids want the small midsize four-door luxury automobiles instead of motorcycles. Last time, the streets were scattered with motorcycles. This time, I probably saw two or three motorcycles zipping by during the various times while we drove around. There were hardly any motorcycles parked on the side streets.

Because of tourism and retail and entrepreneurship, the young upwardly mobile are finding success early instead of waiting for middle-age to work overseas for success.

I was really impressed with the new toll roads and the renovation of the business buildings and the construction of new retail outlets of mega stores.

Yes, there is congestion but city planning has organized the congestion and it did not appear to be a free-for-all of every which way was the right away.

Luxury small four-door midsize automobiles dominated the streets compared to the SUVs of gas-guzzlers of before. I did not think the capable of success wanted the two-door subcompacts promoted for preventing Climate Change, but the midsize designed for families is a step in the right direction.

The luxury small four-door midsize automobiles were what I wanted to manufacture in the Philippines if I had success in America after college and I could afford to buy General Motors to bring a manufacturing plant to Subic Bay, Post Cold War industrial zone, after the Berlin Wall fell. I knew; it was providence to eventually convert the American military bases to commercial properties.

I ruined my college education so not all dreams happen. I have a new dream; I would rather write fictional novels. I can make up the success with words; however, it might take years for reality to catch up, life imitating art.

My desires to be a Filipino-American billionaire saving the Philippines from poverty have fizzled so you Filipino kids capable of success should start an automobile company in the Philippines similar to General Motors, manufacturing luxury small four-door midsize “electric” automobiles or ethanol blend from sugar cane or soy bean diesel motors, which can run on current diesel engines using 100% soy bean diesel, especially for delivery trucks and passenger “jeepneys” and commercial bus services and the rail transits and power plants.

With the change over from SUV gas-guzzlers to luxury small four-door midsize automobiles, I can see sustainable growth for the next ten years with tourism and retail in the Philippine Islands, but eventually the fear of gasoline shortages and the need for alternative energy would be a thunderstorm cloud waiting to happen someday, named Climate Change caused by Global Warming from the fossil fuel discharge of waste gases.

The poverty is definitely over. We have high unemployment. More job creations are needed to prevent new poverty in the future, for without jobs an educated society will only go backwards.

I am often criticized that I promote the retail industry with the low wages in my quest to end the poverty in the Philippines with my freelance writing of articles, but I will again point out that retail products have to be manufactured or grown, creating more jobs, so I hope small manufacturing are flourishing in the Philippine Islands and local farmers are making a living, not to mention those that deliver the products or those that warehouse the produce.

I noticed several new high-rise buildings but with the growing need for automobiles the parking lot problem will be inevitable at locations of limited space. I thought; I saw one building having a first floor indoor parking or open sides for ventilation.

Solid cement molded old buildings could always be renovated with the first floor for parking and with escalators to the next level because of possible power blackouts, but carrying packages might be a burden without elevators powered by electricity.

I know; some of you Metro Manila residence want my opinion on how I feel about the toll highways for building new roads and maintaining better highways because personal transportation vehicles are needed to expand beyond living at metropolises.

I would prefer non-tax revenue for government responsibilities in taking care of the people in society.

Like what?

How about nationwide legal “jueteng” and nationwide legal “mahjong” for non-tax revenue to repair roads and to maintain highways, especially in the Bicol Region? The potholes were vicious after the suggested yearly service from the Toyota dealership at Cubao on the 14-hour drive back at night.

There is no doubt in my mind; the Republic of the Philippines has ended its poverty.

Playstation Vita Jailbreak Nearing Completion, HBL On the Way

So the Playstation Vita just came out. Yep, we've been there: It's a great piece of hardware powerful enough to run PS3-caliber games. But what's a Sony device without a jailbreak, right?

PSP hackers like wololo, SKFU, Mamosuke, and Teck4 are working hard to break the Playstation Vita open. To them it's just a simple challenge. But when they do succeed that challenge, of course it won't come without its consequences.

Remember the PSP, that ubiquitous handheld that everyone had a few years ago? Well, due partly to massive piracy, it died (for what it's worth at least I bought a couple of legit games). That same thing could happen to the Playstation Vita (PSV) if this cracking thing goes through.

The following video contains Teck4's exploit on the PSV. What it is basically is a PSP emulator running on the PSV. Play the video below:

And judging from the video below, and all the years I've been in the PSP scene, we're just counting months here. If someone decides to develop another CFW for the PS Vita, well, it's not doomed. It's just going to be damaged. Then again, the PSP had a good seven year run. That's more than the average life expectancy for a gaming console.

Owners and potential customers of the new Sony handheld are asking the hacking community to just hold off the exploits for fear of the PSV suffering the fate of its predecessor.

If you own an iPhone, an iPad, or an iPod Touch, you probably experienced syncing and backing up your wares at the iTunes application on a PC or Mac. This method of installing apps on your Apple product is almost perfect if not only for its arduous overall process.

Enter i-FunBox. i-FunBox is a rather small PC program that would do everything iTunes does plus more. Install .ipa files with only two mouse clicks, copy and paste photos like crazy, and be able to dig to the deepest parts of your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. The best thing about i-FunBox is it's all free.

So anyway, here's a "quick but enough to get you going" guide on how to install iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch apps and .ipa files without iTunes.

How to Install iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch Apps and .ipa Files Without iTunes

Instructions:
1. Go to www.i-funbox.com and download the iFunBox application. While there, like or +1 their page as well to show appreciation for a free and wonderful product;
2. Extract the file and run the program. No installation needed;
3. As this post is for installing apps and .ipa files on your Apple device, press the "Install App" button located at the top center part of the iFunBox program (click image to enlarge):

4. A dialog box will appear and will ask you for your Apple app/.ipa file. Select the app/.ipa file you want to install and click Open;
5. iFunBox will now start installing your app/.ipa file. Depending on the size of the .ipa file it might take only a few seconds or a couple of minutes for it to get installed. Wait for the status bar to display "idle" before doing anything else;
6. After successfully installing desired apps/.ipa files, click on "Device Safe Removal" and remove your device;
7. Congratulations. You have successfully installed iTunes apps/.ipa files on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch without iTunes.

This method of installing apps on Apple devices is the quickest way to do so as far as I know. It's also true for putting pictures (instead of mailing them to yourself) or music or videos inside your Apple device, although that guide is for another post.

3. Watch your screen get snowy. If you continue on for a couple of seconds more, your screen will start to give off a frosty effect and a "Defrost" button will appear. Pressing it would totally restart the snow animation process.
