Easily one of the most popular applications on the smartphone block and perhaps the one most notably absent from the Android marketplace is Facebook. My friend Taylor over at Android and Me came across the above screen shot taken from the MyTouch T-mobile product page. While Facebook has publicly stated no intentions to build a Facebook app this purported picture has yet to signal a change in their thinking. However, we like to think positively and can only hope, surely to this dismay of several Android developers that an official app is on its way.

Separating ourselves from the rest of the 3G device news this week we take a trip down memory lane to devices already in the hands of T-mobile faithful. Having previewed the Web2go makeover once before, we’re happy to report that the rollout according to our tipster is happening right now to Samsung Memoir, Behold and future Highlight owners. While mildly different from the preview pictures we received in May, these new images certainly showcase an updated user experience giving one touch access to all the important tools and programs. The Yahoo based search bar remains dominant at the top of every page based on T-mobile’s decision that yahoo search was better suited for “lower end phones.” Most would beg to differ than the aforementioned Samsungs are lower end, but I suppose in this case lower end means non-smartphone so we’ll just let that slide. According to the fine folks at the Wall Street Journal, T-mobile CTO Cole Brodman, speaking at yesterdays T-mobile MyTouch3G press event made the headline claim. Why this is even news is really beyond me, is it not the point to sell more of a second generation of something than the first?  Claiming the broader appeal of the MyTouch, Brodman believes most customers will be new to Android smartphones in general. I’m sure he is hoping that T-mobile’s low price offerings will be their counterpunch to the industry but I fear they are to late to the game with the MyTouch and that its really more uphill than they want to publicly admit. Either way, my support for T-mobile is unwavering and I want to believe the MyTouch is going to be big, very big and can draw customers who are simply fed up with AT&T troubles over to the Magenta side.

Today just seems full of MyTouch 3G news, so why not some more?  T-mobile seems to be putting all their chips into the middle when it comes to this poker game of releasing phones (I’m done with the poker references, I promise).  Along with a plethora of accessories, an included warranty, and visual voicemail, T-mobile will be collecting the best that the Android Market has to offer in a nice and tidy “app pack.”  This is where T-mobile will eventually include their own visual voicemail app, but the fun doesn’t stop there.  Tmobile will also include Sherpa, a location based entertainment discovery app that learns your preferences in food, stores, and attractions over time based on your ratings, in this “app pack.”

With all the Android news surrounding the MyTouch3G this morning, how about a little more info for you Android fans. T-mobile is apparently releasing a total of four Android updates this year, with the first and second being 1.1 and 1.5 Cupcake release. That leaves two more updates, one minor update and another major update with the definite expectation being Donut.

T-mobile is definitely looking to take the personalization of the MyTouch to the next level with an assortment of accessories dropping at rollout. You have battery extenders (Hooray!!!), a mug, color choice USB cables, lanyards, lions and tigers and bears oh my!

According to the fine folks over at Gizmodo, T-mobile has no plans to introduce the HTC Hero to its lineup. “T-Mobile CTO Cole Brodman just said at the myTouch 3G launch event that T-Mobile “has no plans to bring the HTC Hero to market.” While this may be truly disappointing from a design standpoint as the form factor of the Hero has won over many reviewers, you still may able to enjoy the Hero without actually having a Hero as seen by these super hackers.

Phonescoop is reporting (I’m assuming live at the MyTouch event) that the MyTouch will come with a two year warranty. In other words, the warranty on the MyTouch will last for the length of the contract which differs from almost every other cell phone warranty on earth which is only sees coverage for a year. Phonescoop is also reporting that exchanges will be done in store, streamlining the wait for MyTouch customers and surely making life that much easier for all parties involved.
