James Irvin tied the UFC record for the fastest knockout tonight, finishing his fight with Houston Alexander at UFC Fight Night in eight seconds.

When Irvin and Alexander stepped to the center of the Octagon, Irvin cocked his fist and delivered a brutal right hand directly into Alexander’s jaw. Alexander dropped like a sack of potatoes, Irvin pounced and delivered two more rights to Alexander’s face while they were on the ground, and the referee immediately jumped in and waved the fight off. The official result is a TKO due to strikes, eight seconds into Round 1.

Alexander popped up almost immediately after the fight was stopped, leading some in the crowd in Broomfield, Colorado to boo what they thought of as a fast stoppage by the referee. And in the Octagon after the fight, Alexander said it shouldn’t have been stopped.

But Alexander was wrong; it was definitely the right call: Replays showed that Alexander lost consciousness and was not in a position to protect himself. If the referee hadn’t stopped the fight, he would have been risking a serious injury to Alexander.

(S12E04) The South Park guys are going after the Writer’s Guild of America, and it’s about time.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone are not members of any of the unions, and they negotiated Internet profit-sharing before it became an issue for the WGA. They have also remained consistent with their dislike of the Hollywood creative elite (including actors and writers, although they are both) and their willingness to take a different viewpoint than the popular media.

And what a jab they took at the writers! They basically said that anybody can do what they do and the striking writers were acting in an ignorant and unrealistic manner. They went further to say that they are being replaced by sources such as YouTube (or rather, YouToob) videos and that their strike victory was only a token one. I wonder, after this episode, if the WGA board found itself in the same restaurant as Matt and Trey at the same time, would they get up and leave in protest?

Was the Canadian strike leader “Steve Abootman” a parody of anybody in particular or was he a general pastiche of the WGA leadership? He sounded a little like Cartman. No surprise there since Trey Parker does most of the ancillary voices himself.

This was really a musical episode! Two songs within a 22 minute show. We had “Canada On Strike” and “What What In The Butt”, the latter of which seemed a mild satire on the Matt Damon/Ben Affleck videos from Jimmy Kimmel Live! Between the music and setting up Canada as the enemy, it was a lite version of South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut.

How awesome was the battle royal scene with all the YouTube people? I’m surprised they missed “LonelyGirl15″, but maybe that was because that particular sensation was staged. I didn’t even recognize all of them, but I certainly remembered the Star Wars Kid and Chris “Leave Britney Alone” Crocker. I knew the fight would lead to fatalities as it always does on this show. It would be hilarious if that clip made it to YouTube (and it probably will). Who were you rooting for in the YouTube battle royal?

The Canadians themselves had some scintillating conversation. “I’m not your guy, friend.” “I’m not your friend, buddy.” “I’m not your buddy, guy.”

For the record, I don’t agree with their opinion of the WGA Strike. I do think writers are important to the creative process and don’t feel the strike was in vain (although the writers did make compromises to end the strike, but who doesn’t make compromises for work nowadays?).

The creators of South Park tend to borrow camera shots from famous movies or other shows. I recall them using a scene with Jimmy carrying a prostitute that was taken from An Officer and a Gentlemen. With that in mind, can anybody tell me if the crowd pan from near the end of the episode was taken from some other movie or television scene?

Matt and Trey seemed particularly scathing and pretentious in their beliefs in this episode, but it was a damn funny episode. In that regard, I am torn with regards to my feelings toward this one. I am, however, happy to see South Park get back on track to the focus and humor from the previous seasons.

University of Memphis Tigers’ senior point guard Andre Allen has been suspended from the Memphis Tigers basketball team, according to reports by WMC and WREG.

Though school officials haven’t revealed detail into the reason(s) why, according to a report from The Commercial Appeal, Coach John Calipari has said that Allen was suspended for “a violation of team rules” but would not elaborate. “We’ll be fine,” stated
Calipari in question to whether this would affect the team.

The senior (Andre Allen) is averaging 3.3 points and 14.1 minutes per game with 37 games under his belt this season.

Troubled Bengals player Chris Henry is in trouble again.

The wide receiver is charged with assault and criminal damaging out of Hamilton County.

Local 12 broke the story Wednesday night.

According to the police report, Henry was involved in a fight on Ohio Avenue in Clifton Heights Monday.

Gregory Meyer, 18, claims Henry threw a bottle, shattering his car window and punched him in the face outside his apartment complex.

Meyer is a UC freshman. He tells Local 12 Reporter Shawn Ley he was walking out of his apartment with his girlfriend, when the bottle was thrown at his car. Meyer says he was attacked when confronting the suspect about that.

Meyer needed a staple to close a gash on the top of his head.

Chris Henry has reportedly told police this is a case of mistaken identity.

Police say they were talking to Henry’s attorney Wednesday night in hopes he would turn himself in soon.

Just last month, Henry was ticketed in Cincinnati for driving with expired license plates.

In November, Newport on the Levee banned Henry from the property for five years. According to an incident report, Henry parked his car without paying the valet. When confronted, a friend of Henry’s reportedly pushed the valet. No charges were ever filed.

That incident was the same week the NFL cleared Henry to play, following an eight game suspension.

That was in response to several run-ins with the law, including a gun conviction in Florida, allowing minors to drink in a Covington hotel room, and marijuana possession in a separate Covington incident.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goddell has Henry under a zero tolerance policy, so if the newest accusations are accurate, Henry could be suspended again.

No one answered the door at Chris Henry’s home Wednesday night.

Local 12 Sports Director and Voice of the Bengals Brad Johansen tried to call Henry Wednesday night, but there was no answer.

We have not yet heard from the Bengals or the league.

The male-dense berg of Elmo gets a much-needed shot of womanhood when TV-serial icon Morgan Fairchild descends upon ABC’s Men in Trees (tonight at 10 pm/ET). Playing “Morgan Fairchild,” the blonde beauty will seek to secure rights to Marin Frost’s life story. TVGuide.com invited (the real) Fairchild to preview her visit to Alaska, tell Morgan apart from “Morgan,” and reflect upon ’80s fashions.

TVGuide.com: Men in Trees is working off quite a lag time. Hopefully it hasn’t been so long since you filmed this episode that you don’t remember it at all.

Morgan Fairchild: Oh, I definitely do. I had a great time on the show. They were very, very nice.

TVGuide.com: When, if ever, was the last time you played yourself?

Fairchild: I play myself every once in a while. I played myself in Holy Man with Eddie Murphy, where he blew up my face. But I don’t do it very often.

TVGuide.com: How is Men in Trees’ “Morgan Fairchild” different from the real Morgan Fairchild?

Fairchild: Well, they made “Morgan Fairchild” sort of a clubber, which I am not! [Laughs] And she’s a good singer, too!

TVGuide.com: How did “Morgan” get wind of Marin?

Fairchild: Our paths had crossed in New York when Marin lived and worked there. I knew her as an author so I recognize her when I see her in Elmo. I’m like, “What are you doing here?” “Morgan” is doing some personal appearances and stuff….

TVGuide.com: In Alaska?

Fairchild: It’s not that far-fetched! When I was touring with The Graduate a few years ago, we played Anchorage and had a great time. We loved Alaska.

TVGuide.com: Does “Morgan Fairchild” take a shine to any of the men in Elmo?

Fairchild: Oh, no…. I think they’re all kind of taken. I would have gotten a black eye from any of the women who’d already claimed them!

TVGuide.com: Did Men in Trees afford you a forum in which to work your comedic chops?

Fairchild: Oh, yeah. I hope it’s funny. We thought it was. It really is such a nice group there. You never know what you’re getting with a cast that’s been together for a while — there are things going on that you don’t know anything about that you walk into — but there was none of that. They were wonderful.

TVGuide.com: Part of that might come from being holed away together up in Vancouver….

Fairchild: I think so. Everybody seems to be very mellow and laid-back, enjoying the work. It’s such a pretty area of the world.

TVGuide.com: Would you be able to tough out months of filming there?

Fairchild: I have before. I’ve shot TV-movies up there. It’s really a nice town. The rain gets to you after a while, though.

TVGuide.com: Back in the day — and by “the day” I mean the ’80s — I saw Morgan Brittany as some sort of “Xerox negative” version of Morgan Fairchild….

Fairchild: [Laughs]

TVGuide.com: Was there any rivalry between prime time’s two Morgans?

Fairchild: No, no, no…. Actually, she and I worked together in ‘78 or ‘79 on a Harold Robbins miniseries, The Dream Merchants. We got to be great friends. She’s a lovely girl.

TVGuide.com: Who in your travels wrote the juiciest TV dialogue?

Fairchild: Don Roos, when I was doing Paper Dolls. In the pilot, my character didn’t have much to do except be on the phone complaining to people and yelling, and I ad-libbed a lot of it. Don “got” my dark sense of humor when we went to series, so he wrote that way for me. We had a lot of fun.

TVGuide.com: Do you miss shoulder pads?

Fairchild: [Laughs] You know, when you put them on now, you go, “What the hell were we thinking?!” My face was so little that I had to be careful because I looked ridiculous with the big ones.

TVGuide.com: I have to imagine it’s just a matter of time before you show up on Dirty Sexy Money.

Fairchild: When I saw the breakdown for that show, I thought I’d be perfect for it. But I haven’t heard from them… yet!

TVGuide.com: I want to run this by you: The soap opera Guiding Light is now taping on location using handheld cameras. Very groundbreaking, isn’t it?

Fairchild: [Laughs] Yeah, we only did that 13 years ago on The City! It was a great idea then, and it’s a great idea now, to broaden the scope of daytime shows.

TVGuide.com: What else is going on with you? Any movies in the pipeline?

Fairchild: There’s Spring Break, and we did a reality show based around that, too, where we auditioned people to be in it. I did one called The Sno Cone Stand, in Austin, and one called The Steamroom. And I have a skin-care line launching called Fabulous by Morgan Fairchild.

TVGuide.com: Wow. If anyone should do a skin-care line, it’s your porcelain-like self!

Fairchild: Thank you. It’s due out any moment now. We just shipped our first bubble bath to New York pharmacies. So try the bubble bath!

Off-Broadway’s watery spectacle Fuerzabruta is paid a visit by Tyra Banks and her band of model hopefuls on the April 2 episode of “America’s Next Top Model.”

The weekly series, which airs on the CW network Wednesdays at 8 PM ET, challenges a group of young hopeful models to various industry-related tasks.

The April 2 episode finds the models and their art director Mr. J on the set of Fuerzabruta, where they discover they will be photographed while submerged in the production’s clear mylar pool.

Fuerzabruta began performances Oct. 11 and opened Oct. 24 at the former home of De La Guarda, the Daryl Roth Theatre. The previously-extended run plays through June 29.

De La Guarda’s Diqui James (co-founder/co-creator) and Gaby Kerpel (composer/musical director) again “push the boundaries of theatrical creativity, motivation and innovation,” according to a press statement. Fuerzabruta (Brute Force) “breaks free from the confines of spoken language and theatrical convention [where] both performers and audience are immersed in an environment that floods the senses, evoking pure visceral emotion in a place where individual imagination soars.”

Featured performers include Hallie Bulleit, Freddy Bosche, Daniel Case, Michael Hollick, Joshua Kobak, Gwyneth Larsen, Tamara Levinson, Rose Mallare, Brooke Miyasaki, Jon Morris, Jason Novak, Marlyn Ortiz and Kepani Salgado-Ramos.

Fuerzabruta first played in Buenos Aires in 2005 and has also performed in Lisbon, London, Buenos Aires and Bogota with runs in Berlin and Hamburg to follow.

BROOMFIELD, Colo. —

Matt Hamill, a Schuyler resident fighting out of Utica, defeated Tim Boetsch in an Ultimate Fighting Championship match on Wednesday.

Hamill scored a technical knockout 1:25 into the second round as part of Ultimate Fight Night 13 on Spike TV.

The first round was close and Hamill’s bottom lip was split open by a Boetsch Knee to the face. In the second round, Boetsch tried to take Hamill down, but the three-time Division III wrestling champion gained the advantage. Positioned on top, Hamill continued to pound away at Boetsch’s head until the referee stepped in and stopped the fight.

Hamill improved his record to 6-1.

It’s crunchy. It’s two kinds of cheesy. It’s the closest you’ll get to a Chuck Norris roundhouse kick to the face.

Two weeks ago, Jerad Reichel of Twin Falls found what he sees as a Cheeto shaped like the martial arts superstar and actor.

“I was just eating Cheetos and actually almost put it in my mouth,” said Reichel, 23. “I kind of noticed that it was shaped like something.”

That something, he decided, was a snack-sized statuette of Norris winding up to do a roundhouse kick.

After showing it to friends, Reichel put it on the auction block at eBay.com. The auction, listed under “cheeto norris looks like chuck roundhouse kicking,” ends at 9:23 tonight(April 1, 2008).

Spencer Hughes of Twin Falls, Reichel’s friend, sees the similarities.

“I really do think it looks like Chuck Norris,” Hughes said. “It has the mole and everything.”

Norris publicist Jeff Duclos laughed, then said, “I don’t know how you’d comment on a Cheeto.”

Reichel’s find is the latest in a food-likeness frenzy. In March, a Houston pastor found a “Cheesus,” a Cheeto shaped like Jesus, and two Virginia sisters sold an Illinois-shaped cornflake on eBay for more than $1,000.

Hughes thinks the Chuck Norris Cheeto has the same potential.

“For a Chuck Norris fan, I really think it would go for … at least a thousand,” he said. “If I was Chuck Norris, I’d want it to go for at least a thousand.”

That might be a stretch - Monday afternoon the hig bid was $4.75 - but Reichel holds out hope.

“I’ve kind of set a deal with all my friends that if it sells for more than $100, I’m going to get a tattoo of it,” he said.

NEW YORK, April 2 (UPI) — A spin-off of the popular U.S. TV comedy “The Office” is in the works and expected to air early next year, NBC announced Wednesday.

The network said it will follow up its NBC Sports’ coverage of Super Bowl XLIII in January with a fresh episode of “The Office,” followed by the premiere of the new comedy by “the Office” creator Greg Daniels.

“Who would have ever thought that Americans would be subjected to a mock-documentary after the Super Bowl? What has happened to this country?” Daniels, executive producer of “The Office,” said in a statement.

NBC said “The Office” spin-off will take audiences on “another comic journey, complete with new faces and new locations, but with the same unique sense of humor and brand of quality from Daniels and his creative team. It’s the next chapter of what viewers have come to know and love about ‘The Office.’”

“The Office,” starring Steve Carell, was adapted for U.S. TV from the BBC hit of the same name starring Rickey Gervais.
