కథ..

కళ్యాణ్ (చరణ్), వనిత (రేష్మి) బార్యాభర్తలు ఇద్దరు ఉద్యోగం చేసుకుంటూ హైదరాబాద్ లో నివసిస్తూ ఉంటారు. కళ్యాణ్ ఒక పని మీద హైదరాబాద్ నుంచి విజయవాడ వెళతాడు. పని చూసుకొని తిరిగి హైదరాబాద్ వస్తూ ఉండగా దారిలో సుదర్శన్ కలుస్తాడు. ఇంతలో ఒక కొత్త వ్యక్తి కళ్యాణ్ భార్యని కిడ్నాప్ చేసి, తను చెప్పిన పని చెయ్యకపోతే నీ భార్యని చంపుతానని బెదిరిస్తాడు. కళ్యాణ్ అతను చెప్పిన పని చెయ్యడానికి అంగీకరిస్తాడు. ఈ మిషన్ లో కళ్యాణ్ అకౌంట్లో 20 లక్షలు వేసి, ఒక విలేజ్ కి వెళ్లి అక్కడ బస్ స్టాప్ లో డీవీడీ కలెక్ట్ చేసుకొని, అక్కడ నుంచి మరో విలేజ్ కు వెళ్లి అక్కడ ఒక బ్యాగ్ తీసుకోని అందులో ఏమి ఉందో చూడాలి. కళ్యాణ్ ఏమి తీసుకున్నాడు, ఎందుకు తీసుకున్నాడు, తరవాత ఏమౌతుంది? అనేది మిగిలిన కథ.

నటీనటుల ప్రతిభ

అంతం అంటూ వచ్చిన రష్మి నిజంగానే వనిత పాత్రలో ఆడియెన్స్ ను అందాలతో అంతం చేసినట్టుగా అనిపిస్తుంది. బుల్లితెర మీద తనకున్న ఇమేజ్ తో రీసెంట్ గా గుంటూర్ టాకీస్ తో అదరగొట్టిన ఈ అమ్మడు మరోసారి సినిమాలో గ్లామర్ షోతో కట్టిపడేసింది. అయితే సినిమాలో కేవలం హాట్ గా కనిపించడానికే తప్ప రష్మి క్యారక్టర్ ఏమి లేదని చెప్పాలి. ఇక హీరోగా నటించిన చరణ్ దీప్ పర్వాలేదు కాని అతనిలో హీరో లక్షణాల కన్నా విలన్ గానే బాగా అనిపిస్తాడు. సినిమాలో సుదర్శన్ కామెడీ చేయాలని ప్రయత్నించాడు కాని అదేం పెద్దగా వర్క్ అవుట్ కాలేదు. వాసుదేవ్ విలనిజం పర్వాలేదు. అయితే పాత్రలన్ని నటిస్తున్నారన్న భావన కలుగుతుంది. ఆ విషయంలో దర్శకుడు వారి నుండి బెస్ట్ అవుట్ పుట్ తీసుకోలేకపోయాడు.

దర్శకత్వం

"మీ ఊహలకందనిది జరగబోతుంది" అంటూ ప్రచార చిత్రాల్లో ప్రేక్షకులను ఆకర్షించే ప్రయత్నం చేశాడు దర్శకుడు. ప్రేక్షకుడు మాత్రం సినిమా చూస్తున్నంతసేపు 'తర్వాత ఏం జరుగుతోంది' అన్న విషయంలో దర్శకుడ్ని మించి క్లారిటీతో ఉంటాడు. అయితే దర్శకుడు తీసిన పద్దతికి ప్రేక్షకుడు ఏ స్థితిలో ఉంటాడన్నది పైవాడికే ఎరుక. తెలుగు సినిమా మొహం మొత్తేసిన ఉగ్రవాద నేపథ్యంలో రాసుకున్న అతి సాధారణమైన కథకి దర్శకుడు తన ప్రతిభని కనబరిచే ప్రయత్నంలో ప్రేక్షకుల సహనం అన్న మాటని పూర్తిగా మరిచాడు. సినిమా ప్రారంభమై రేష్మితో ఓ పాటేసుకున్నాక (ఇదంతా ఓ పది నిమిషాల్లోనే) మొదలైన కిడ్నాప్ డ్రామా రెండు నిమిషాల్లో శుభం కార్డు పడుతుందనే వరకు సా...గుతూనే ఉంది. అప్పటిదాకా కిడ్నాపర్ల బారిలో తన్నులు తిని తిన్నగా ఏడవటం కూడా చేతకాని రేష్మి ఉన్నట్టుండి 'పోకిరి'లో మహేష్ బాబులా అండర్ కవర్ - ఐపీఎస్ అని లేచి అమాంతం ఉగ్రవాదుల్ని మట్టి కరిపించేస్తుంది. ఆ విషయం అంతవరకు ఆమె భర్తకీ తెలియకపోవడం కొసమెరుపు. ఇలా తన పగటి కలల్ని తెరపై చూపించి ప్రేక్షకులపై రుద్దాడు దర్శక నిర్మాత హీరో ఎక్సట్రా... అయిన చరణ్ దీప్. ప్రధాన పాత్రలు రెండే కావటంతో కథనాన్ని మరోవైపు నడిపించే అవకాశమూ లేదు. ఉన్నంతలో నెల్లూరు యాసలో సుదర్శన్ పలికిన సంభాషణలే దిక్కు. అదీ బిగుతుగా కట్టని 'లుంగీ'లానే ఉంది. "స్వర్గం చూపిస్తా..." అన్న మాట పక్కనపెడితే అర్థం పర్థం లేని సన్నివేశాలు, కిడ్నాపర్లు వనిత (రేష్మి)ని కారణం లేకుండా హింసించడం (మగాడు మూత్రం పోసే సన్నివేశాన్ని చూడమంటూ కొట్టడం) లాంటివి చూసి ఉన్నపళంగా నరకంలోని సలసలా కాగుతున్న నూనెలో పడ్డట్టు ఫీలవుతాడు ప్రేక్షకుడు.

STORY

This film tells about life story of Haryana wrestler Sultan Ali Khan (Salman Khan) who has a dream of winning Gold Medal for India at Olympics. From the same village there is a young girl Aarfa (Anushka Sharma) who also wishes to represent India in wrestling. Naturally they both fell in love. However, something strange things happens in Sultan’s life which broke him completely. Later on, Sultan once again dreams to come back but this time in UFC. Did he achieve what he dreamt? Watch the film to find out.

Performance

In the film SULTAN, Salman Khan’s performance has been regarded as one of the rawest performances of his lifetime. Also, the performance seems to be quite uninhibited. Reaching the sky high level, Sultan fever has really got to the fans who are eager to watch both the performances of the two charming stars. Salman Khan actually leaves behind his status of a superstar for getting into the character. Apart from that, Aarfa (Anushka Sharma) is also a wrestler in the film who also has showcased fabulous acting skills.

Direction, Music

Director Ali Abbas Zafar should be all set to have his shining moment since Sultan will undoubtedly become a blockbuster. For Salman Khan fans, the director is offering everything they want.

Capturing the spirit of Akhadas in smaller towns of India, Zafar has done a fine job with his lens. Like Maneesh Sharma, he too captures a good chunk the lifestyles of the tier two cities.

Even as the script fails, Zafar relies on his lead star to carry the film on his shoulders. From his Mere Brother Ki Dulhan and Gunday days, we have to say that the director has definitely come a far way.

If only, he had made sure to keep the film a little crisper it would have been better. The second half drags and not all fights are captured well enough to keep you at the edge of the seat. Also, execution of the mixed martial arts tournament could have been done better.

What’s Good: Sultan is a mixed bag of emotion, action, love and of course Salman Khan. It is a love story at its core but the coat of wrestling works well!

What’s Bad: Like majority of films dealing with sports, Sultan too has its shortcomings. Also since it takes off with a love angle, it may disappoint many who may have expected it to concentrate on wrestling.

The Last Word

Sultan is not a sports drama! It is a sheer Salman Khan drama. For its entertainment value and a cliched but watchable storyline, I am going with a 3/5 for the film.

స్లాత్స్.. ఇవి చాలా అరుదుగా కనిపించి అటవీ జంతువులు. ఎప్పుడు నిద్రమత్తులో ఉండి బద్ధకంగా ఉంటుంటాయి. మిగితా జంతువుల కంటే భిన్నంగా చెట్లకు వేలాడుతుంటాయి. అది కూడా రెండు కాళ్లు చెట్టుకొమ్మకు మెలేసి ఓ చేతిని కిందకి వేలాడేసి మరో చేత్తో ఆ చెట్టుకొమ్మను పట్టుకొని.. ఇవి ఎట్టి పరిస్థితుల్లో నేలపై అడుగుపెట్టవు. ఒక చెట్టుమీద నుంచి మరో చెట్టుమీదకు కొమ్మలద్వారా వెళుతుంటాయి. అది కూడా మన్ను తిన్నపాములాగా నెమ్మదిగా.. అలాంటి స్లాత్స్ కనిపించడమే అరుదవుతుండగా దానితో నికోలస్ హుస్కార్ అనే ఓ యువకుడు ఏకంగా సెల్ఫీనే దిగాడు. ఆ ఫోటోకు స్లాత్ కూడా చక్కగా నవ్వుతూ పోజిచ్చింది. వాస్తవానికి ఈ జంతువు కెమెరాకు చిక్కడం చాలా అరుదు.

ఓ అడవిలో ట్రెక్కింగ్ కు వెళుతున్న నికోలస్ తనకు స్లాత్ కనిపించగానే వెంటనే తన సెల్ఫీ స్టిక్ తీస్కొని ఫొటోకు పోజివ్వగా.. అది చూసిన స్లాత్ కూడా నేను కూడా రెడీ అన్నట్లు స్మైల్ తో పోజిచ్చింది. ఈ ఫొటోను ఆన్ లైన్ లో పోస్ట్ చేయగా దుమ్మురేపుతోంది. ఇప్పటికే రెండు లక్షలమంది ఆ ఫొటోను చూశారు.
