It is presented as automated installation in which anonymous constellations of input data are shaped by sequences of iterative processes and used as control structures for events occurring in sonic and visual domains. The performance is about what can happen when daily routines are broken, when the mask falls off and you have to show your trueface. Who are you when you no longer have to keep up appearances?

How would it be to really get in touch with the person sitting next to you? What would you say to one another?

Shortly after, he moved to the Netherlands to work with Nederlands Dans Theater 2 and later Nederlands Dans Theater 1. Not long ago, after six years of dancing and choreography, Amos started his solo career. Besides working as a choreographer, he is now also the front man of the band Noblesse, a three-piece indie-rock band from The Hague. Blending alt-rock, sleazy pop and punk with a noble touch, Noblesse unleashes a contagious brand of rock n' roll that grabs you and leaves you yearning for more. Hard and melodic, daring and accessible, raw and refined. At the TodaysArt Festival, Amos and Noblesse will present a daring crossover between modern dance, music and ideals: three musicians and three dancers will give a performance filled with social criticism, breaking through cultural and social barriers through the power of song and dance.

Cry Love combines a video-installation and dance performance into one act. It is a complete experience, a refined ensemble of dance, music and video. Cry Love is about man who is driven by his instincts, his urges and his emotions.
In this performance, the dancers are driven by the fierce emotions which house in everyones subconsciousness: the primal urges which we suppress and control in our everyday lives.

CYP17 premiered in The Hague and after a successful season in the Netherlands, invitations poured in from festivals and theatres in Europe, North America and India. Yet musically it only loosely fits the format of these genres. Milanese melts hard-edged industrial techno beats with sinister rave bass lines, and the sort of deliberately haunting b-movie samples that usually pervade dark drum n' bass tracks. Milanese’s live sets are excellent, putting him on the most wanted list of many a festival. And, while we were still celebrating that we had managed to book him, we got some incredible news: Milanese will climb the stage together with the one and only Neil Landstrumm, one of the biggest names in dubstep! Apparently these two have secretly collaborated and decided to let the visitors of the TodaysArt Festival be the first to hear it. We didn’t stop celebrating for quite a while after hearing that.

These festivals have big names in their line-ups, from all sorts of genres provided they have some sort of link to techno. At one point, the most prominent musicians performing at Teknivals united and called themselves SP23, which later changed to Rzac23.

Two of these musicians now perform at TodaysArt: 69DB and Crystal Distortion. 69DB is very big in France and is often hailed as the best live musician of our time on electronic instruments. And Crystal Distortion is often called the Mozart of the underground techno scene. His amazing work garnered him a huge fanbase. In the past few years, these techno heroes have sporadically performed together in France, with concerts being sold-out months in advance.

Starting with Peacefrog, shifting gears to Berlins’ Tresor Records he then upped the bass-game onto arguably the UKs’ most important electronic label of the moment, Planet Mu. Neil Landstrumm is an artist who always seems to be at the spearhead of experimental, dancehall low frequency electronics.

At the moment, he is seen as an important contributor to the dupstep genre, bringing it together with classic UK techno vibes, giving dubstep a new rave-like quality, with some people coining it ravestep. That aside, we have amazing news concerning Landstrumm: he will climb the stage together with the one and only Milanese! In Romania, electronic music is still very differentiated, each genre having their own urban and social codes, causing the different groups to be rather segregated.

Rokolectiv’s program reflects the current tendency of reducing the differences between codes or genres and the oppositions between experimental/pop, dance/ non-dance, analogue/digital and mainstream/ alternative. Rokolectiv presents various genres, approaches and techniques of creating electronic music, as well as the visual arts which are born in relation to it, in the same spirit.
Since these two festivals have a lot in common, TodaysArt invited Rokolectiv to add to our program, giving you Minus and Vali Chinci and the Rokolektiv organisation on stage in KingKong.

He farms a universe of modular beings, dragons, millipede, all synthesised from geometrical shapes, human and animal organs, all roaming through blank, black and white spaces, according to the life-giving algorhythms that their master endows them with.
Alongside 8 bit music samurai Minus, Vali Chincisan Minus is Daniel Stanciu, a 21 year-old Romania- born computer science student. For instance, the movie “Le Dernier Cri” by Erwin Olaf uses a kind of hyperrealism, often described as Jacques Tati meets
David Lynch. “On a Wednesday Night in Tokyo” by Jan Verbeek, recorded in 1 take, shows the inevitable up to the edge of the unbearable. This work is part of the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Jouni Hokkanen and Simojukka Ruippo created a short, music video-like documentary, which was illegally filmed in North Korea and offers a unique view on a bizarre reality.

Nederlands Dans Theater II - Sleepless

At TodaysArt 2007, Nederlands Dans Theater II presents Sleepless, by choreographer Jirí Kylián. This work has been performed before at the TodaysArt Festival in the Atrium, but will now be performed in the more intimate Grote Kerk. The reason for this repeat performance is that Kylián is celebrating his sixtieth birthday by touring internationally with three of his works, including Sleepless. He chose this performance for TodaysArt because it gives the dancers the opportunity to show their newest techniques. This makes it the ideal showcase for contemporary dance.

Sleepless was created for six dancers, with the set playing an important part. A synthetic background creates illusions and fantasies. Kylián’s composer Dirk Haubrich adapted the slow part of the adagio and rondo KV 617 in c-major by Mozart. This piece of music for, amongst other instruments, the glass harmonica, is one of Mozart’s later works. Sixteen young dancers (aged 18-23) from all four corners of the world, together form the internationally renowned Nederlands Dans Theater II. Their technique is amazing, their boundless energy is contagious. The group is one of the favourite dance acts of TodaysArt due to its revamping of dance and their youthful input.

But not content with his success as a DJ and producer, he took Model 500 to another level by creating a band of the same name. While the group Model 500 has never toured much beyond the US, in its latest incarnation the band is set to give audiences a taste of the classics as well as a hint of things to come.
into puddles. Metaphors abound in the art of freezing sounds and melting records: the impermanence and fragility of art and life. Beauty. Entropy.

which showcases graphic design as a contemporary art-form – will use the big white surfaces of the structure as their canvas. Through hi-end projection equipment the building will be lit up by artworks especially created for this show, changing it into an exhibition space for the two nights of the festival.

This year, the city hall will be used in four ways. First of all, works of art that perfectly fit the shape of the building will be projected onto the Spuiplein-side of the building during the Slide Show.
Secondly, for the Video Art Show Maxalot introduces a revolutionary way of projecting video that also fits the shape of the building and is accompanied by sound.
Thirdly, for the Live Art Show four artists will create an artwork via a live-drawing installation whereby they can literally paint the building using full colour video projectors, a computer and touch-screen and creative software of choice.
And lastly, ISO120 will activate the Slideshow LCD, which projects beautiful photographs that were inspired by the holy Indian Shiva Lingam stones.

So, you can watch the following shows: Slide Show from 20.00 – 01.00, Live Art Show from 20.00 – 23.00, Video Art Show from 23.00 – 01.00 and Slideshow LCD from 20.00 – 01.00.

They create responsive, immersive and sculptural light-based environments. UVA was founded by partners Chris Bird, Matt Clark and Ash Nehru in 2003. Their first project was the creation of the ground-breaking visual show for Massive Attack’s 100th Window world tour. Since then they have gone on to work with bands including Basement Jaxx, U.N.K.L.E. and U2 (Vertigo tour 2005). UVA have also diversified into other areas, working on music videos for Kylie Minogue, Colder, Arctic Monkeys and recently directed Battles (Tonto) with Warp Films. In 2004 UVA created a curved LED installation for the Kabaret’s Prophecy nightclub in Soho, which won Wallpaper Magazine’s ‘Best Designed Nightclub’ award in 2005.

Their current major project is the design and installation of architectural lighting for the Santral Contemporary Art Space in Istanbul, Turkey. Tryptich, which will have its premiere at the
TodaysArt Festival, represents the next phase of UVA’s explorations in monumental sitespecific LED sculpture - three brooding presences that respond to the movements of people approaching them, creating a visceral experience of sound and light.

He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts AKI in Enschede and the Berlage Institute, a Postgraduate Laboratory of Architecture in Rotterdam. Roosegaarde’s work explores the dynamic relation between architecture, people and new media. His sculptures are a collision of technology and the human body. In this interaction the sculptures create a situation where visitor and (public) space become one.

Roosegaarde’s projects have been shown at international exhibitions at V2, Netherlands Media Art Institute & 5th Triennale in Slovenia and published in Items, NRC Handelsblad and MARK magazine. In 2006 he launched Studio Roosegaarde, a laboratory in which series of interactive artworks are created.

Specially for TodaysArt 2007 the interactive landscape Flow 5.0 is developed. Flow 5.0 is an interactive sculpture made out of hundreds of ventilators which are reacting to your sound and motion. By walking and interacting an illusive landscape of transparancies and artificial wind is created. Walking through Flow 5.0 in the white Cityhall of Den Hague the visitor becomes conscious of himself as a body, in a dynamic relation with space and technology.

Tarek Atoui - Empty Cans

Leading up to the TodaysArt Festival, Tarek Atoui, a 27-year old Lebanese artist, collaborated with twelve Dutch high school students and created the first Dutch edition of his internationally renowned Empty Cans workshops. By using the Empty Cans software designed by Tarek, the students are able to manipulate video and audio live on stage with game console joysticks, thus creating a live music video performance.

Tarek Atoui started the Empty cans workshops in France in 2005 with teenagers from different origins and backgrounds. During the summer of 2006, Tarek took the workshop to Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon, until the outbreak of the war forced him to leave. After the war, Tarek returned and noticed how his workshops helped the children cope with their wartime experiences by implementing audio and visual material from the war into the workshops.

The project has been receiving much international attention and is being developed into an instrument to stimulate interaction and create bonds between children from different nationalities and backgrounds. Empty Cans will travel to Cairo, Beirut and Nantes before returning to The Hague for the TodaysArt Festival 2007. At the festival, a selection of young people from countries such as Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine and the Netherlands will give away a riveting live performance from cross-cultural talent.

His debut album, "Oneiric", was released in April 2006 on Mike Paradinas' Planet Mu label, to widespread critical acclaim. Its fractured take on the London-centric dub-step sound drew it many accolades, including being named as one of the best Electronica albums of 2006 in the Wire's end of year review.

His additions to dub-step prevented the demise of yet another underground genre, which often grind to a halt due to uncompromising attitudes. A follow-up album titled "Glyphic" is due for release soon on Planet Mu. His live sets are a combination of laptop-playing and improvisations on bass and guitar.

Cutting his teeth as an uncompromising DJ throughout the 90's, learnt skills of moving a dancefloor were quickly taken into the studio. Warlock's earliest releases were twisting through breaks electro and dubstep orientated, then he began dabbling with psycho bass, and dirty funk, his releases becoming a continuum of experimentation. Together with partner Noyeahno Warlock runs and releases on the Rag & Bone label. The group draws heavily from IDM, glitch, electro and hiphop. They produce all their material with self-developed software and MIDI controllers.
Their work is now world famous, which yields interesting collaborations, such as recently with Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and Maxïmo Park. Modeselektor’s live performances are best known for their innovative character, which is a reputation that they earned partly because of their collaboration with Pfadfinderei as Pfadselektor. He was the main character in the Levis commercials in 1999, dishing out minimalist dance moves to minimal house and quickly rising to the top of Europes music charts with the song Flat Beat. The mastermind behind it all was Quentin Dupieux, aka Mr. Oizo, a Frenchmen gifted in the field of film and music.

During the past few years, Mr. Oizo has been busy with remixes of famous artists such as Air and Scissor Sisters, releasing two albums and producing Uffies and Feadz album. French musician SebastiAn follows in the footsteps of fellow French melodic minimalists Gel, Encre and Sylvain Chauveau with his glorious multi faceted drone based music. After being discovered by Ed Banger, he soon became a rising star not only in France but also internationally, touring with major names such as Daft Punk and Kavinsky.

Array - Outre

Outre is a unique event: a distinctly altered theatrical world where music hall meets end of the pier freak show meets ghost train: a disturbing but extraordinary beautiful place within which Darren Johnstons powerful choreography for his company of six dancers exists in all its startling, haunting originality. In a half-lit haze on a monochrome stage a chanteuse sings a fragmented lyric: a woman in a hooped frock has a mannequins face:
a salsa dancer twitches to radio static and a Japanese ghost-girl gyrates in falling rain. All appear in their black-and-white world somewhere on the edge of consciousness.

With commissioned music from Christian Vogel and Warp artists including Jamie Lidell and Tyondai Braxton (Battles), Darren Johnston has created a seamless unity of live performance, music and visual design in a way that engages on a myriad of sensory levels to manipulate, persuade and above all, enthrall.

Charly & Gallus - BAF Soundsystem

Since the mid-nineties, Charly and Gallus have been running the mighty BAF Soundsystem. After doing numerous events and collaborations, performing with various major players in the drum & bass / electro and dubstep / grime scene, they decided to focus on their own music and started doing live sets together.

Their style can be described as meditative dub breaks with the main focus on bass. Under the name The Hague Dunestep soldiers they provide a unique take on the dubstep genre.
