The California Supreme Court lifted the ban on gay marriage yesterday and Ellen DeGeneres took advantage of this news during taping of her show by announcing she will be marrying lesbian lover Portia de Rossi.

DeGeneres was taping the episode of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Thursday, the day the state’s high court struck down California laws against gay marriage, and it was to air Friday, a person close to the production said.

The person, who was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly, spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity.

Scarsdale Town Clerk Donna Conkling tells PEOPLE the license – which lists the wedding date as April 4 – was received on Friday afternoon.

They must have been deciding if they really wanted to be married because it took them more than five days to file the license. Luckily for them they are not alone in filing late so the penalty for late filing will be waived.

Before the deal was accepted according to a source, “She called paparazzi and tipped them off and she’ll be wearing Ed Hardy clothes.”

Today’s results put an end to speculation, but our son’s beautiful spirit and enduring memory will forever remain in our hearts.

While no medications were taken in excess, we learned today the combination of doctor-prescribed drugs proved lethal for our boy. Heath’s accidental death serves as a caution to the hidden dangers of combining prescription medication, even at low dosage.

Our family enjoyed an extremely happy two-week visit with Heath just prior to the New Year. Those recent precious days will stay with us forever. We as a family feel privileged to have some of his amazing magic moments captured in film. To most of the world, Heath was an actor of immeasurable talent and promise. To those who knew him personally, Heath was a consummate artist whose passions also included photography, music, chess and directing. We knew Heath as a loving father, as our devoted son, and as a loyal and generous brother and friend.

We treasure our beautiful granddaughter Matilda (to our dear Michelle) as well as an unbelievably wonderful network of close friends, forever, around the world. Families rarely experience the uplifting, warm and massive outpouring of grief and support as have we, from every corner of the planet. This has deeply and profoundly touched our hearts and lives. We are eternally grateful.

At this moment we respectfully request the worldwide media allow us time to grieve privately, without the intrusions associated with press and photography.

The New York City medical examiner’s reported that Heath Ledger died from an accidental overdose resulting from the abuse of six prescription medications.

The NYC medical examiner has finished the toxicology report following the death of Heath Ledger, and has just ruled that the actor’s death was caused by “acute intoxication by the combined effects of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam, and doxylamine.”

A private funeral for Heath will take place on Saturday in Perth, Australia. Heath’s daughter, Matilda Rose Ledger, and ex-girlfriend, Michelle Williams, has just arrived in Australia, joining Ledger’s father, Kim, mother Sally and sister Kate.

Heath Ledger was found dead in NYC by his housekeeper at 3:26 p.m. this afternoon. Police are saying drugs may have played a factor in his death. Heath was pronounced dead at the scene after paramedics failed to revive him.

NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said Ledger had an appointment for a massage at the Manhattan apartment believed to be his home. The housekeeper who went to let him know the masseuse had arrived found him dead at 3:26 p.m.

So sad to hear this news. R.I.P. Heath Ledger.

Update: Heath was suffering from pneumonia at the time of his death. An autopsy will be perform tomorrow.
