a thought about life

sitting here listening to some good tunes, and wondering why there has to be so much hate and malice in the world today, why people find it easier to hate, distrust, and only see the bad or faults in their fellow man, instead of looking in their harts to see the good in someone. maybe people should stop and look inside themselves first and see their own faults, before always prejudging others and pointing the finger, else where.

A delicious sounding Veggie Meal

Grilled Veggie Sandwich (serves 4)
Ingredients
1 small zucchini
1 small yellow summer squash
1 small eggplant
1 medium sweet onion, sliced
1 large sweet red pepper, cut into rings
4 whole wheat hamburger buns, split
New chipotle mayo
1/4 cup crumbled feta cheese
Sliced provolone cheese
Garlic, minced
Instructions
Cut all of the vegetables into slices, place them into a baggie, drizzle olive oil on them, and add garlic and other seasonings to taste. Grill the vegetables, covered, over medium heat for 4-5 minutes on each side or until crisp-tender. Remove them and keep warm. Grill the buns, cut side down, over medium heat for 30-60 seconds or until toasted. In a small bowl, combine the chipotle mayo, feta cheese, garlic, salt and pepper and spread over the bun bottoms. Top with the vegetables and replace bun tops.

i’m finally back home in San Diego, been back a week and feel so good about being home with my extended family and great friends.

after spending 5 years in Palm Bay Florida, I would not advise anyone to move to Florida unless you want to do nothing for the rest of your life, there is Nothing to do work wise, and unless you want to drive several hours to find some excitement you won’t be doing much but watching TV, or spending your life Online, wondering why you ever moved to Florida in the first place.

Republican Switches to Democrats Over Gay Marriage, GOP Extremism on Eve of Wisconsin GOP Convention

Wisconsin Republicans were about to begin their state convention in Milwaukee Friday, when the Democrats already found something to crow about.
According to WisPolitics.Com, Lora Rae Anderson - a former chair of the College Republicans � announced in Milwaukee that she would join the Democratic Party. And Democrats were touting that move. Anderson said the GOP has become "too extreme" for moderates. She earlier told the political news Web site that Republicans are, "alienating a younger, more progressive generation through its new conservative platform which ignores issues such as gay marriage."
She said such marriage is a civil right, and letting people do it is consistent with the GOP's platform of "government hands-off." Anderson said most College Republicans agree with that stand, but they stay quiet in deference to the party's older leaders. Charlotte Evans, the current chair of the College Republicans told WisPolitics.Com that she wished Anderson well as, "she completes her attention-seeking transition to liberalism."

Vegetarian Eating

Tonight i just finished making a Mock stir fry chicken with yellow rice and vegetables.

Ingredients

1. Bag of any brand Vegetarian meal starter Mock Chicken

1/2 cup Orzo (pre brown)

1.5 cups yellow rice dry (your choice of brand)

2 med. carrots

1 small onion sliced

1/2 bag or 1 can snow peas (can sub for regular peas if preferred)

1 medium or 2 small stalks celery chopped to your taste

2 tbl. spoons garlic powder

pinch of black pepper or white pepper (which ever you have handy)

3 tbl spoons your choice teriyaki or soya sauce ( any brand will do)

Pre brown your Mock chicken strips first, leave hole as they are in the bag or chop to desired size. after lightly browned set aside, and pre brown the orzo in 1 tsp. butter or margarine , after orzo is light and golden, add the yellow rice in the same sauce pan or skillet your now using, to that add 3 cups water and bring to boil, cover and let simmer till rice and orzo are soft and majority of water has evaporated , once that’s done add in the chopped vegetables and 1/2 cup hot water and let cook till tender, allowing the rice and orzo to absorb some of the flavors from the vegetables , once everything is tender then add in the mock chicken and soya or teriyaki along with your garlic and pepper. I didn’t include salt since i don’t use salt in my cooking so that would be (a little salt to taste) if required.

Tonight i thought i would try to make something with a slight Mexican twist in flavor. so i decided to make Vegetarian mock chicken burritos. with rice and black beans.

Ingredients

1 package frozen pre-breaded Mock chicken nuggets (Morning Star Product).

1 cup white or wild rice (your choice)

2 cups black beans (you can use fresh if you have time to cook them first)

or you can use 2 can’s whole beans not re-fried

2 packages mild taco or burrito seasoning mix, or you can create your

own

1 package Large Burrito shells

1 Medium or Large Onion ( chopped )

1 lb. package cheese your choice of flavor.

1 pt. Vegetarian sour cream ( check your local health food store)

First thaw and slice mock chicken nuggets into small pieces and slightly brown in a medium to large skillet.

while your doing that you can be boiling your rice depending on your choice if you use white rice drain and rinse about 1/2 of the starch, leave a little to mix with your seasonings so this thickens just a little more like a thin gravy. if you are using canned black beans i would suggest you drain and rinse before using, since you don’t want your entire meal to look black from the liquid in the can. if your cooking your beans from scratch, make sure you’ve cooked till tender. once you have the first three items cooked add everything to a large skillet that you can cover, incorporate about another 1/2 cup water just enough to blend in your seasonings. now cover and cook stirring every so often so it doesn’t stick all total about 30 minutes or until most of the liquid has been absorbed or cooked down.

Once everything has cooked down your ready to assemble your dinner

Meatless Burgers, Hot Dogs Not Always Full of Veggies

WEDNESDAY, July 8 (HealthDay News) -- Not all vegetarian burgers and hot dogs are alike. It seems that some, in fact, may not offer much at all in the way of vegetables.

"Arguably, if food doesn't taste good, people are less likely to eat it even if it does wear an impressive nutrition label," registered dietitian Dawn Jackson Blatner, a spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association, said in a news release from the organization. "While some veggie burgers are meant to look and taste 'like meat,' many popular brands have visible chunks of vegetables, such as mushrooms, carrots and peppers, suggesting that satisfying meatless fare may not depend entirely on a successful imitation."

So before tossing some on the grill this summer, the association advises, read the labels and know the facts:

Veggie burgers with 10 grams of protein or less tend to contain more vegetables and whole grains than those with more protein, which often are made of mostly soy protein and wheat gluten.
Nutritionally speaking, veggie hot dogs tend to have many advantages over traditional frankfurters, such as fewer calories, less fat, less sodium and more protein.
Though veggie burgers contain far less fat and more fiber than beef or turkey burgers, they tend to contain much more sodium -- an average of 350 milligrams, or 15 percent of the recommended daily amount.
Just because a brand is vegan-friendly (meaning it's made without such animal products as eggs and cheese), it doesn't necessarily contain more vegetables.
Meatless burgers and hot dogs can be bad for people with certain food allergies. Most contain soy and wheat, and many others contain eggs, dairy and nuts.
Some meatless burgers or hot dogs tend to fall apart on the grill so use cooking spray on them and cook over low-medium heat but not over a direct flame, which could dry them out. Baking or broiling in an oven or toaster oven, microwaving or heating in a skillet might prove better cooking options with some brands of meatless burgers and hot dogs.

Vaccine Shields Monkeys From Simian Form of HIV

SUNDAY, May 17 -- Raising hopes for the development of an AIDS vaccine that might actually work, researchers report they were able to protect monkeys against infection with simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV), the primate version of HIV.

They did so by using a novel approach that delivered antibody-producing genes directly to the animals' muscles. Typically, vaccines are aimed at ramping up the immune system to fight off infection, but this strategy eliminated that middle step.

"Traditional approaches toward developing an HIV vaccine that have worked for other viruses like influenza have just has not worked for HIV and, quite frankly, might not work for a long time or ever," explained the study's author, Dr. Philip R. Johnson, chief scientific officer at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and a professor of pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.

"But Mother Nature has allowed us a few breaks, in that we know that in a very few cases, people who have been infected for a very long time have been able to naturally develop antibodies that neutralize a lot of the circulating virus," he said. "So, we thought perhaps we could take the genes that represent these antibodies 'off the shelf,' so to speak, give them directly to patients and, in essence, bypass the immune system."

"So, first we worked through mice and showed we could do it with mice," Johnson explained. "And now we've shown that we can actually transfer these genes into monkeys and protect these animals from SIV."

The findings are in the May 17 online issue of Nature Medicine.

The researchers' efforts focused on preventing SIV infection in nine macaque monkeys who were "immunized" against SIV by inserting genes already known to express anti-SIV antibodies directly into the monkeys' muscles.

Once the genes were injected, they prompted the muscles to produce antibodies that were released into the bloodstream and began attacking the SIV.

After being exposed to SIV four weeks later, six of the nine monkeys appeared to be fully protected from infection because they remained completely uninfected, and none of the nine immunized monkeys went on to develop AIDS or died from exposure to the virus, the researchers reported.

In contrast, six non-immunized monkeys exposed to SIV all became infected, and two-thirds died.

Johnson and his team concluded that their immunization strategy triggered the development of long-lasting and complete protection against SIV infection among monkeys.

"I'm not about to over-hype this," Johnson cautioned. "But we are continuing our work with monkeys in parallel with moving forward to begin human trials in two years, if everything goes perfectly with our work with the FDA to develop safety preparations, which is absolutely appropriate. And if the immunization trials work, then you have another few years to gear up. So, in the best of all possible worlds, you're looking at five years down the road for a practical benefit for patients. But, scientifically, we believe we are on the right track."

Rowena Johnston, director of research at the Foundation for AIDS Research in New York City, described the work as "one of the most interesting and potentially promising concepts to come out of the vaccine field in quite a while."

"They've cut straight to the chase and eliminated the middle man," she explained. "That is the really exciting thing they've done. We already all know that the traditional approaches to a vaccine won't work for HIV. And so HIV is a field where researchers are required to come up with ideas that nobody has needed to think about before, and that is where the challenge is. And here what they've done is to get antibodies to the virus themselves being produced directly, rather than waiting for the very slow-moving immune system to respond. And that is so elegant."

"Of course, the caveat is that this paper is a concept, and not yet a solution," Johnston noted. "But as concepts go, this is very, very interesting, even if it seems so obvious after you see it, like all good research."

Tonight I was sitting home and watched one of the most heart warming movies i've ever seen.

This movie was called Prayers for Bobby, the movie was based on a true story, about a young man who due to idiotic religious teachings wound up taking his own life because his parents couldn't accept and only wanted to deal with his being Gay, by trying to force him to be straight, instead of opening their ears and hearts with love and compassion and listening to what their son was saying, to them it was more about their place in the life after than their son's place in the here and now.

this was a very moving movie that I would suggest to every one if it is on again on the lifetime channel or another please watch it and take the lessons to heart, as I watched this movie it made me wonder just how many teenagers are feeling the same way this young man felt, having to fight his internal feelings between what he was taught to believe from one mans interpretation of the bible, and his mothers over insistence to those interpretations, I was lucky being a Gay man myself, I came out and didn't care what people thought, if they accepted me or not, I am who I am based on what I feel inside not who I sleep with, being a gay person does not make you any less of a man or woman it does not determine your life or destiny.

the only things in life you choose are your occupations, where you wish to live, and material possession, being gay in a wold so full of hate and bigotry is not something anyone would choose, being a gay man or lesbian woman or bisexual person, even being a person of transgender is something that happens while your still in the womb, not even born yet, which towards the end of this movie, the mother finally realized her son wasn't gay because he choose to be, nor was he sick, or could be as so many claim, be cured, this is not an illness or a sickness, but a fact of life, being gay , lesbian, bi , or transgender is not something you can just take a pill or go talk to a psychologist and suddenly your straight (heterosexual), I feel people need to open their minds and gain some knowledge, before more young people male and female, feel there is no way out accept to take their own lives because their families and friends have such bigoted and hatred attitudes and feelings towards the Gay, Lesbian,Bi and Transgender communities, please reach out to the younger people before more of them take their lives because they feel so desperate to have someone to talk to who will understand .

Wishing everyone around the world a happy and prosperous 2009, as well as hoping for peace around the world, isn't it time we all sit down around the table have a cup of tea or coffee, and give some conversation a chance, since we've all seen that dropping bombs and killing people doesn't seem to change anything around the world.

Lets all try to make and keep at least 1 New Years resolution to Give Peace a try, talk it out instead of shooting it out, there has to be a better way than the current. if everyone befriends one new person in their life over the next year just maybe we could all help eachother to come up with life saving ideas to help pass on to those who have the power to sit down and start talking and making the changes we all want and hope for in this coming year.
