These are my new favorite shoes. The color is gorgeous, the heel is low and comfortable making this suede pair perfect for dancing the night away. But who in their right mind would take these beauties out in a crowded place where people might step all over them? That would be insane.

I was thinking the other day that I don't own shoes/sneakers that I don't really care about and I can take out in crowded places like clubs, concerts, festivals. That's a problem because ~~Winter~~ Summer Well is coming and I have 2 options:
1) Either I buy a pair that it's sacrificable and compromise style;
2) Either wear something that I like and bring a hula hoop to keep people away. I will look like a mad Totoro, but at least I will have clean shoes.

Will let you know how it goes.

Perfect summer dress

Hi! These are some pictures that I took in May when the first heatwave hit Bucharest this year. I knew that when temperatures reach 30 degrees Celsius you have to be prepared and face the weather like a ~~man~~ woman. What better way to do that than to wear a pretty leaf print dress while strolling around one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Bucharest, Cotroceni, that feels like a small oasis in the hot city and grabbing a lemonade?

I found this dress at H&M and loved its print, affordable price and the fact that it could be worn in the hottest days without compromising on style or comfort.
I know it can be tempting to wear very short, very sheer, almost transparent, clothes and bare everything in public in the summer, but you can find a better way.
Just wear something that represents you and doesn't make you sweat like a Game of Thrones season finale.

Blooming trees in Central Park

Hello people of the internet! Let's start this week right with a trip to the magical Central Park. The first time I saw Central Park, December last year, I loved, loved it but I wanted to see it again in spring when nature would come back to life. Wish granted because I visited New York again 2 months ago and got to see the cherry trees and magnolias in full bloom.
I know that judging by my facial expression I don't seem too happy, but believe me I was in awe at the sight of the magnificent view. You shouldn't miss Central Park in the Spring.

Top of the Rock

One of the things I didn't get to do in New York the first time I visited it was to go to Top of the Rock and see the magnificent skyline. Luckily, I visited New York for the second time last month and I got to cross this off my list among other fun activities that I will share with you in my coming posts.

So, if you want to have the best view of New York's skyline, Top of the Rock is the number one choice. If you have the chance to go at sunset it's even better because the view it's breathtaking.
You don't have to take my word for it, just take a look at the pictures below. The only downside of the visit was the incredibly strong wind. It was no surprise though considering we went all the way up to the 67th floor and it was March. My advice if you plan on visiting is to buy your tickets online for Top of the Rock to skip the queues. The ticket is $30 for adults and it's totally worth it.

Colorful spring

Happy Friday! As you can see, my color turned into a silverish/bluish/yellowish color. The blue washed off in the most peculiar way. I was not expecting this.

Judging by my previous post, you would think that I would be happy now. Well, no.
I've had my natural hair color for almost 28 years and "it grew on me" (pun intended). I was sad, I felt like I was someone else with blue/silver hair so I changed my hair color yesterday and now it's almost back to normal.

My mom will say "I told you so!"and I admit that it wasn't necessary to bleach and dye my hair twice in a month to realize that "I am attached to my hair" (pun intended again). Sometimes you don't know what you got until it's gone. I just hope my hair will not be completely damaged after this experience.
Is it too late now to say sorry?

These are the last pictures I wanted to share with you from my New York trip. Most of the pictures below were taken in the Chelsea neighborhood when Sandra and I visited the Chelsea market. There were plenty of chic boutiques inside and although tempting, I didn't go on a shopping spree. I only bought a perfume bottle with pump. I always wanted one of those.

I remembered I promised you to tell you about my evening on Broadway. I was a fan of the Phantom of the Opera for the longest time. I only saw videos on YouTube from various performances and the Phantom of the Opera 2004 movie. I knew all the lyrics to the songs and when I heard that the show is coming to Bucharest last year I was so excited I couldn't sleep.
I was very disappointed though when I found out it's going to be translated for the Romanian audience. No offence to my fellow Romanians and the amazing cast that played at the National Theatre of Operetta"Ion Dacian", but I din't feel like buying tickets afterwards.

I decided to wait and see the Phantom of the Opera live for the first time the way I always pictured it in my head, in English. The opportunity arose when I was in New York three months ago, I immediately jumped at the chance and it was one of the best experiences of my life. I was blown away by how perfect everything was. The cast was brilliant, the costumes were amazing and I wouldn't mind if I had to watch it a million times. I highly recommend it.

Don't worry, you landed on the correct page. Yes, my hair is blue. "Why"you might ask. I asked myself the same question. You probably know that I was pretty conservative when it came to my hairstyle all these years that I have been blogging. I never dyed my hair and I rarely changed haircuts. So to dye my hair blue is very bold and unusual for me, correct?

Well, the story behind this is that I never wanted this color. All I wanted was to cover my grey hair that was becoming more and more of an issue to me. I also wanted to boost my morale after being sick/in pain for the whole month of January. Easier said than done apparently because I went to a salon asking for a dark grey hair color and I ended up with blue hair. After 6 hours of being bored out of my mind at the salon (really, I don't know how women stand this) after 2 failed attempts to get my hair dark grey, I gave up and went home.

It's funny because I was really expecting "granny hair, but I got "my little pony hair" instead.
But what has been working out for me lately anyway?

My year is off to a good start. NOT. I am now in bed fighting a nasty cold and drinking more cups of tea than the entire United Kingdom's population. Well, at least I have the pictures from New York to cheer me up. Here are some I got while taking the ferry on East River that connects Brooklyn to Manhattan. Below you'll see two massive suspension bridges, each over 100 years old, Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan Bridge. I could tell you that the best view of Manhattan skyline is from Brooklyn, but then again, I haven't seen the skyline from the Top of the Rock or Empire State Building to make a comparison.

On the day we visit Brooklyn there were 16-18 Celsius degrees which made the walk across Brooklyn on our way back to Manhattan not only possible, but pleasant. In December it's usually bitterly cold and windy on the bridge, so we were extremely lucky to be able to enjoy the walk.

Excuse me if I am not too talkative today, but I must go back to being miserable for the rest of my day. Gotta love flu. NOT.

Tomorrow is the last day of the year. As I look back and think about all of the life changing events that happened to me in 2015, I can't help but feel an immense sense of gratitude and joy. This year was the best year for me so far. I was so busy living that I admit I kind of "abandoned" my blog. I admire my fellow bloggers who can keep up with their busy jobs, their personal lives, and still manage to find the time to blog every week. This is my only regret, that I didn't dedicate more time to my blog that has remained a constant in my life for the past 6 years. I will work on that in 2016, pinky promise!

Guess what? I have more pictures from my trip to New York to show you today. Surprise, surprise. I took these pictures on upper fifth avenue, one of the greatest streets to visit in NYC, nicknamed "Millionaire's Row". You can find here many world-renowned museums like The Metropolitan Museum of Art, historical landmarks and luxury stores, of course.
The other pictures are from "The Central Park Zoo", the first official zoo to open in New York in the 1860s. I saw the endangered snow leopard. There are as few as 4000 snow leopards in the wild worldwide and I saw 2 of them. They actually posed for me, scroll down for the picture. Other endangered animal I saw here was, the red panda.

In my next post, we will leave Manhattan behind and cross the Brooklyn Bridge. Stay tuned!

New York City

This December was the best month of my life. I got to spend 2 weeks in New York city and if you heard the news, this winter was surprisingly warm in NYC. I am talking about 16-18 Celsius degrees. Lucky me! I was able to walk around the city for 10-11 hours/day and enjoy this city as much as possible without turning into a ~~snowwoman~~ snowman like I initially thought when I booked my flight in November.

New York is the city you see all the time in movies, music videos, TV shows and before you arrive there you think you pretty much know what to expect. Boy, I had no clue what was going to feel like to actually be there. As soon as I saw the skyscrapers, the city lights, the crowded streets I felt so much at home I can't even explain. The hype is real! That's all I can say, the hype is real. I especially liked Central Park, taking a stroll through this park was the highlight of my trip, I also loved Times Square, Rockefeller Center and I will never forget the feeling I had when I saw my favorite play ever, "The Phantom of The Opera", on Broadway. I shed tears of joy. Best experience of my life, but this in another post. Stay tuned.

Flower crown

I am happy to show you my new hairstyle. I thought about getting a long bob haircut for some time now, but couldn't bring myself to actually cut it until last week. I still don't know how I didn't quit halfway through.
Anyway, I am very pleased with the result and I hope you like it too.

Next week is Halloween. Who's excited? Not me. I mean, who likes being spooked? The same people who enjoy horror movies I assume. Weirdos!
Also, those dreadful costumes, bleah! Absolutely tacky and unoriginal if you ask me. Everyone is either a zombie or a nurse. OK, rant over.

Let's go back to the pictures I took earlier today. It was such a nice autumn day today. My husband and I went for a walk in the park and of course I couldn't leave my camera behind.
I just love this season, don't you?

De ce ma bucur ca am plecat de la Orange

Am fost clienta Orange multi ani, prea multi ani daca ma intrebati acum si am ajuns la concluzia ca portarea numarului in alta retea a fost cea mai buna decizie luata.

Sa va povestesc cum cei de la Orange” pun sechestru” pe telefoanele platite de noi si cum nu ne lasa sa le folosim nici dupa expirarea contractului cu ei.

In Martie 2013 am fost intr-un centru comercial din Bucuresti cu scopul de a-mi achizitiona un telefon nou. M-am plimbat pe la mai multe magazine de profil si intr-un final m-am oprit la un Orange Shop. Avand abonament la ei, m-a abordat un angajat de-al lor sa-mi spuna ca pot sa-mi folosesc punctele “Thank you” pe care le aveam in cont in acel moment sa obtin o reducere in cazul in care vreau un telefon de la ei.

Punctele acelea de fidelitate nu imi aduceau cine stie ce reducere, cam 50-60 de lei din pretul intreg al telefonului. Asadar am platit aproape integral telefonul, in niciun caz nu mi l-au dat de pomana, nu mi l-au dat la 1 euro sau ceva de genul acesta.

Am decis sa-mi prelungesc si pentru inca 24 de luni abonamentul pentru ca nu eram interesata sa-mi schimb operatorul de servicii mobile inca si nu planuiam sa fac asta in urmatoarele luni.

In niciun moment al discutiei cu angajatul Orange, in niciun paragraf al contractului meu, in niciun loc pe contul meu Orange, nu a fost mentionata codarea telefonului meu sau perceperea de o taxa de decodare in eventualitatea in care mi-as schimba reteaua dupa expirarea contractului.

Nici macar ambalajul telefonului meu nu avea ceva care sa ma duca cu gandul la codarea lui. Era un ambalaj simplu, Samsung, cu accesoriile telefonului si un manual de utilizare.

Si sincer, nici nu ma asteptam ca un telefon platit de mine sa fie codat de cei de la Orange. A, mi-au dat posibilitatea sa folosesc punctele Thank you pe care eu le castigasem in anii de abonament la ei si la care aveam dreptul.

Nu era un beneficiu al abonatilor Orange? Daca aceste puncte veneau 2 ani si jumatate mai tarziu sub forma unei taxe de rascumparare a telefonului (sau taxa de decodare cum o numesc ei) le spuneam sa-si pastreze punctele si imi luam telefonul din alt loc. Pretul platit de mine era similar cu pretul din alte magazine pentru acest model de telefon, doar ca Orange imi inspira mai multa incredere.

Daca nu ii spui clar unui om inainte sa achizitioneze un telefon ca vine codat si trebuie sa platesti sa-l decodezi asta se numeste viciu ascuns. Eu nu imi mai cumparam telefonul de la Orange in conditiile astea.

Uitandu-ma in urma realizez ce naiva am fost, dar daca au reusit sa ma pacalaesca pe mine sigur au mai pacalit multi alti oameni.

Pe 14 Octombrie 2015 mi-am portat numarul in alta retea si cand sa introduc cartela noua in telefonul meu aflu ca telefonul e codat. Minunat!

Ii sun pe cei de la Orange, le spun toata povestea, ma pun sa astept in telefon si dupa cateva minunte imi spune operatorul ca trebuie sa achit 47 de lei ca sa imi decodez telefonul.

Ma gandesc ca nu a inteles faptul ca mie mi-a expirat abonamentul cu ei in Martie 2015 si ca acum ne aflam in luna Octombrie. De ce mai sunt eu nevoita sa achit o taxa sa-mi folosesc propriul telefon?

Nu stie sa-mi dea un raspuns, dar insista ca trebuie sa achit taxa si ca asta este. O intreb pe agenta daca e vreun manager disponibil sa imi faca legatura pentru ca in continuare imi este greu sa cred ca dupa ce imi termin contractul trebuie sa achit ceva.

Bineinteles, nu era nimeni care sa poata sa vorbeasca cu mine, agenta incepe sa devina iritata de “insistenta mea” si inchei apelul dandu-mi seama ca nu o sa primesc prea multe raspunsuri pe calea asta.

OK, merg pe pagina de Facebook si ii contactez acolo. Sigur dau peste niste oameni rezonabili care inteleg situatia si pot sa ma lamureasca. Imi raspunde un anume Andrei care imi spune sec:

“Buna, Laura,

Telefoanele comercializate prin reteaua noastra de distributie sunt codate. Daca telefonul a fost achizitionat la pret subventionat, iar perioada contractuala a expirat, deblocarea telefonului costa 54 RON. Aceasta se poate efectua in orice shop Orange.”

Wow! Le scrii o pagina intreaga, le adresezi mai multe intrebari si ei vin cu raspunsul asta standard?

Ca sa nu mai spun ca taxa de decodare e alta decat cea comunicata de operatorul de la Servicii Clienti.

Observ ca lipsa de informatii sau transmiterea de informatii gresite este ceva obisnuit.

Ii raspund acestui expert in comunicare spunandu-i ca daca nu e specificat nicaieri faptul ca trebuie sa achit o taxa de decodare daca imi cumpar un telefon de la ei de ce trebuie sa achit?

Dau si niste screenshot-uri de pe site-ul lor mai exact pagina cu beneficiile punctelor Thank you, unde bineinteles nu specifica nicaieri ca daca iti iei un telefon la pret special cu punctele acestea automat acel telefon e codat. Vedeti pagina aici: https://www.orange.ro/orange-thank-you/

Raspunsul lor nu a avut nicio legatura cu raspunsul meu.

Eu intrebam una, ei ziceau alta. Tipic!

Concluzia:

Nu o sa platesc in veci taxa de decodare. Niciun alt leu nu va merge spre compania aceasta cu practici abuzive si fara respect fata de clientii lor.

Thassos Island Part I

Hello! Today's post is all about Greece's Emerald Island, Thassos. It was the second time my husband and I chose to spend our summer vacation in Greece and we are thinking about making this a tradition. Greece is the ultimate travel destination for people like us who enjoy natural beauty, amazing beaches, picturesque villages in the mountains and historic attractions.

Thassos is ideal for couples, families that just want to relax as it's not crowded and the nightlife is almost non-existent. The locals are very friendly, the food is excellent and the view is spectacular everywhere you go.
No wonder that Thassos has the highest rates of return visitors of any of the Greek Islands.

We spent most of our vacation in the beautiful summer resort, Skala Potamia, that is surrounded by beautiful beaches and clear waters. We visited two of the most famous sandy beaches in Thassos, Golden Beach and Paradise Beach that really live up to their name.

Bride to be

4 days left and I didn't turn into a Bridezilla...yet. I am too chill and that worries me. What if this is the calm before the storm? What if I go nuts just before I walk down the aisle? As long as I don't pull a Julia Roberts on him we should be good. Truth to be told, you can avoid unnecessary causes of stress when you plan a wedding. All you have to do is be true to yourself and to not do things that you are not comfortable with or you not relate to. I saw a lot of young couples that tried to please everyone else around them and they forgot themselves in the process. Yes, your parents and friends will try to tell you what food you should add to your menu, who you should invite, or what playlist you should have on your wedding day, but don't forget that you can't simply redo the wedding if you realize that it didn't even feel like it was your wedding you went to. Who are these people? Do I know them? What is that awful music playing?
Stay strong fellow brides to be. May the force (and the good weather) be with you.

Pastel coat

Long time no see. Been a few busy months. I got married, moved to a new apartment and decorated my new home. Don't worry, I didn't elope. There will be pictures from my wedding. I only got married at the city hall on March 17th because it was the anniversary of when we first met three years ago. The wedding party will be this July and I will share tons of pictures of course.
The final countdown has begun and I still have a lot of things to take care of until our big day.
So, before I freak out and start hyperventilating, let me show you some pictures I took last month while I was visiting a beautiful city, Iasi. Below you ca see pictures of the gorgeous, breathtaking, Palace of Culture that was built almost a century ago.
I was wearing my pastel coat I bought online at H&M (hooray for the launch of the Romanian online shopping page) and my first pair of stiletto shoes. I always thought it would be uncomfortable to wear such shoes, but turns out they are comfy and super stylish. I bought since then another pair.

C&A Spring 2015 collection

Hello! With everything going on in my life lately, I didn't really find the time to blog. A couple of weeks ago, something frivolous like buying a foundation that is a little darker for my skin tone would have been enough to upset me a little, but in light of a recent tragic event, I have realized that getting upset over things that aren't worth getting upset about is ridiculous.
The greatest blessing in life is family and you should treasure the moments you spend together with your loved ones because everything could change in the blink of an eye.
Before we all get teary-eyed, I want to share these pictures I took at the C&A Spring 2015 collection launch event. I like how the collection has a very relaxed mood and there were many items that I would see myself wearing at a music festival or a picnic this spring.
I especially loved the flower arrangements at the event. My grandmother had a soft spot for flowers too. I hope you are surrounded by flowers up there, grandma.

Hello! I know it's been while, but I have been super busy looking for a wedding dress and planning an office party. So, I am very excited to announce that I have said yes to the dress. I was very lucky that it only took me 1 week and a half to find "the dress". After the first couple of days of trying on many dresses I thought that I was going to end up wearing a white sheet with a belt around the waist on my wedding day. That's how discouraged I felt in the beginning. All of the dresses that were displayed in the bridal shops were either too shiny or had too much going on. Bows, rhinestones, ruffles, cleavage, volume, so much volume! Does everyone want to look like Cinderella? All I wanted was a beautiful dress that was simple, yet impressive. Mission accomplished!

A piece of advice for future brides. Be prepared to look around a lot and have nervous breakdowns. The key is to not lose hope and know that the perfect dress for you is out there somewhere. It's a lot like dating if you think about it. You have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your prince.

Serbia

Hi! I was reading this article on CNN the other day and realized that I didn't share the pictures I took this summer while traveling to Serbia with you yet. You know what they say. Better late than never. I stayed in Belgrade, the capital city of Serbia and the largest city in this country and I was very impressed with what this city has to offer. There are many ways for a tourist to enjoy his stay in Belgrade like visiting the Church of Saint Sava, the Nikola Tesla museum, the Victor/ Pobednik monument located in the Belgrade fortress, the museum of Yugoslav history and when you are done visiting these points of interest you can relax by talking a stroll in the Kalemegdan park or in the charming downtown.

Resolutions

Hi! These are the last days of the year and now is the time when everyone thinks about their previous new year's resolutions and see where they stand at the end of the year. My resolution for this year was to act more, postpone less. I believe I was able to accomplish this and I am proud of it. We've had a new, wonderful addition to our family, Yuki. I invested more time in my hobbies, discovered new cultures and traveled to some beautiful places.
I feel like there is still plenty of room for improvement though, so I will be sharing my new resolutions at the beginning of 2015.
Now, a little story behind my outfit. I bought these knee-high boots last week during a 70-80 % off sale. I paid less than 17 euros for these beauties. Lucky me!!! I also found this shawl at a Christmas market that day. I just love the gorgeous floral pattern in traditional Russian style.

Last Wednesday I was invited to the Spring-Summer 2015 collection launch of the talented, fresh brand called Traskin.
This year, the young designers behind Traskin, Alina Dragomir and Ana Spiridon, have presented a mainly inspired street-wear collection fused with high-fashion.
Here is what they had to say about their SOFTPOP collection:

I'm in panic mode! most stores in Romania began their Black Friday sales this morning and I spent five hours looking through thousand of articles so far with no luck. It's amazing how fast a person can shop when there are jaw dropping sales. You see a great item in your size and by the time you add it to your shopping bag it's already out of stock. Bummer! I stand no chance against these skilled ninjas. I'll have to train myself and be back next year. I will have my revenge!
Anyway, I want to give a shout-out to the talented Sandra for taking these wonderful pictures.

Norocul este ceea ce faci din el – acesta a fost mesajul editiei cu numarul 13 a targului de design romanesc si cultura vintage V for Vintage LUCKY 13, care tocmai s-a incheiat duminica seara.

Inca o editie reusita, rosie si superstitioasa de V for Vintage, cu vizitatori si prieteni care au intrat in jocul superstitiilor si s-au fotografiat cu pisicile negre aparute subtil la fiecare pas (prin grija partenerilor nostri de la Atelier 13), au facut descoperiri dupa descoperiri – in zonele de-acum cunoscute ale evenimentului (Designeri romani, New Entry, Vintage autentic, Bijuterii si Accesorii, Molecule F & Friends etc) si au petrecut un week-end cat se poate de norocos.

Camera de beauty s-a transformat intr-un veritabil retreat din adrenalina shopping-ului – cosmeticele si produsele bio, plus un make-up artist inarmat cu rabdare si experienta, au facut minuni pentru mood-ul vizitatorior.

Prezenta Danei Rogoz – si a parfumului ei Moon, lansata in premiera la V for Vintage Lucky 13, a transformat spatiul de la intrare intr-o gradina frumos mirositoare – la mare concurenta cu aroma cafelei de la Coffee Bike, care a cucerit curtea

Timp de doua zile, saloanele gotice ale Casei Universitarilor au fost cadrul perfect pentru o atmosfera sofisticata, tesuta de superstitiile reinventate in cheie moderna.

Yes, I am a responsible citizen of my country and I encourage everyone in Romania that has the right to vote to fulfill their responsibility as citizens and vote in the second round of presidential elections on November 16th.
If you feel like it's too much of an effort to dedicate 15-20 minutes of your day to vote just remember that women like Susan B. Anthony risked being jailed for casting their ballots
in the late 1800s.

Ceasul bun, pisica 13!

Norocul este ceea ce faci din el – acesta este mesajul ediției cu numărul 13 a târgului de design românesc și cultură vintage V for Vintage LUCKY 13. Evenimentul aflat acum sub vraja numarului 13 are loc în weekendul 8 – 9 noiembrie 2014 la Casa Universitarilor (Strada Dionisie Lupu 46) – un conac cu influențe gotice atât de potrivit pentru o poveste cu aer mistic.
