Jimmy Choo for H&M Tokyo Launch

On Saturday, November 14, H&M unveiled Jimmy Choo for H&M – a collaboration collection of women’s shoes, clothes, bags, and accessories, as well as menswear items. The opportunity to own Jimmy Choo designed fashion at H&M prices drew long lines at all four Tokyo H&M locations – Ginza, Harajuku, Shibuya, and the new store in Shinjuku.

The H&M location in Harajuku is near the new Nike Harajuku shop (which was having its grand opening this morning) so we headed down there to check out the scene. At the Harajuku store, over 200 shoppers lined up around the block – and in the rain – for a chance at getting their hands on some of that Jimmy Choo goodness.

Our sources reported back later in the day to let us know – with tears in their eyes – that within the first hour after the Harajuku store’s opening, nearly all of the Jimmy Choo for H&M items were sold out.

Because the Jimmy Choo for H&M collection items were limited, H&M Japan used a wristband system to try to keep track of who would get a chance for first grab at the pieces. The first 160 shoppers at each store earned a chance at a wristband – which, in turn, granted the wearer a chance (though no guarantee of success) to purchase from the collaboration collection.

If the response in Tokyo is any indication, this H&M collaboration is going to a major hit and a fast sellout worldwide. (Dare we say it seemed close to as big as the Comme des Garcons collaboration?) Well, the lines weren’t quite as long for Jimmy Choo as for Rei Kawakubo, but there was definite excitement in the air in Japan this morning. Anything that gets shoppers excited about buying things during a bad economy is good news for the fashion industry.

Nike Harajuku Store Grand Opening

This morning in Tokyo, the new Nike Flagship Harajuku shop opened its doors. There were, as you would expect in Tokyo, plenty of people on hand for the grand opening – from excited shoppers to press to tourists curious about what all the Japanese TV crews were doing. In Tokyo, perhaps more than anywhere else the world, nothing draws a crowd like a crowd.

Even though it was a rainy morning in Tokyo, the line was decent – stretching from the shop, up Omotesando Avenue, and toward Harajuku Station. Those in line were vying for a chance to see the special guests on hand – like Daisuke Matsuzaka of the Boston Red Sox and various top Nike executives – and to buy some of the exclusive and/or limited edition goods being offered to hype the opening.

As we reported previously, the new Nike Harajuku Flagship store is three stories tall and has about 10,000 square feet of floor space. The store’s interior design was done by the super-hipster Japanese design firm Wonderwall and features touches like a huge wall of Nike sneakers suspended from the roof of the second floor and a chandelier made of racing tags. The store also boasts the largest NikeID studio in all of Japan, and a huge area dedicated to soccer (or “football” if you prefer) gear and customization services.

The new Nike Flagship Harajuku shop is located on Omotesando Dori between Harajuku Station and Meiji Dori, near the Softbank shop and Quest Hall. For those brave Nike fans waiting in line when the doors opened, there were plenty of limited edition Harajuku-only goods on sale, including a special re-release of two colorways of Nike Air Jordan 1 Retro High sneakers.

Smiling Blonde “Cheer” Girl in Harajuku

This fun blonde Japanese girl posed for our photo on Meiji Dori in Harajuku. She has a cute smile and was very friendly. Her outfit consists of a pair of large sunglasses, a hooded black and gold dress with the word “Cheer” across the front, and black suede knee-high boots. She is also wearing a silver cross necklace and carrying a white and brown canvas and leather handbag.

Golds Infinity Girls in Shibuya

These two friendly Japanese girls were photographed on Center Street in Shibuya. The girl on the left is wearing a fur hat with a big flower on it, a pink low cut top with a lot of black lace, a pink and black skirt, black loose socks (or leg warmers?) with jewelry attached to them, and black pumps. She is also carrying a black and gold handbag by the Japanese gyaru/Shibuya 109 brand Golds Infinity and she’s wearing a big gold crown necklace. Her friend is wearing a mask (for when you have a cold in Japan), a black jacket, a white shirt with a tie, black shorts with lots of buckles on them, and black boots. She also has her phone on a cord around her neck. Their drinks are from First Kitchen.

Four Japanese Skaters in Harajuku

These four Japanese skaters were photographed on Omotesando Dori in Harajuku. They are all wearing your basic skater gear – t-shirts, jeans, backpacks, caps, and sneakers (except the girl is wearing Uggs). The guy on the left appears to be rocking a Rick Howard deck from Girl Skateboards and the guy in the middle is carrying Supreme. The girl on the right’s shirt appears to be by the Japanese brand RNA Slang and the guy in the back right is wearing sneakers from éS Footwear.

Shirts With Colors & Patterns in Harajuku

This Japanese guy and girl were photographed in Harajuku. The sign they are standing in front of is for a cat cafe near Cat Street. Each of them is wearing a shirt with either bright colors (his multi-colored striped shirt) or bold patterns (her belted shirt seems to be covered in drawings of musical keyboards and something else). Besides his colorful shirt, he’s wearing glasses, bell bottom pants, a backpack from Slapshot, quite a bit of jewelry, and Converse sneakers. The girl is wearing a red fedora hat, a black skirt, black leggings, and black Converse sneakers.

This Japanese guy was photographed in the Shibuya area of Tokyo. He is wearing a cap, glasses, an orange t-shirt by Walter Van Beirendonck, black and orange polka dot skinny Cheap Monday pants, and Nike sneakers. The outfit is simple, but the Cheap Mondays made it work somehow.

This very cute Japanese girl was photographed in Harajuku. She was a fan of the Japanese fashion brand Milk, and several of her clothing items are from the brand’s collection. She is wearing a red and black harlequin/diamond pattern cardigan sweater over a button up white shirt, a short black lace skirt, over the knee black socks / stockings, and cute black platform heels. She is also carrying a large black polka dot Milk handbag and on her handbag is a Milk tie.

He is also carrying a bag that says “JACOBS by Marc Jacobs for MARC by Marc Jacobs” on it. That’s a lot of “Marc” in one small bag!
