Nokia unveils first Windows phones

Nokia today unveiled a new crop of smartphones that could put the company back in the smartphone race with rivals iPhone and Android.
It could also mark a turnaround for Microsoft's unpopular Windows Phone 7 software.
Nokia CEO Stephen Elop unveiled the company's new partnership with Windows Phone 7 today in the form of the Nokia Lumia 800 - a hi-tech, mid-priced handset running the latest version of Microsoft's operating system.
The phone costs £364. The cheaper, lower specced Lumia 710 model will cost just £234. Both will go on sale across Europe in November.
The pricing in particular could be crucial in putting Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 back in competition with its smartphone rivals.
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said that the Windows giant would cut prices to drive sales.

Much was made during Motorola’s presentation of the Motoactv’s ability to track a user’s heart rate through their ears using headphones. But it turns out those headphones are a large expense on top of the Motoactv’s base cost: $99 for a heart-rate-tracking wired set of headphones, and $149 for a wraparound Bluetooth headset. When the Motoactv itself is priced at $249 for an 8GB model and $299 for 16GB, we were expecting the heart rate monitor to come standard.
Still, the Motoactv fills out its price somewhat in that it’s much closer to being an actual phone than the iPod nano is: it can take calls and receive text messages by sync-piggybacking on another phone’s number.
The device will auto-sync workouts wirelessly with Motorola’s Motoactv website, where users can view the progress and set goals. The Motoactv also has an interesting talent: it can analyze how the music you listen to corresponds to your workout intensity, and will, if allowed, play the songs it believes motivate you best at crucial moments. This feature doesn’t strike us as foolproof, but it sounds pretty neat.
The Droid Razr will be up for pre-order on October 27 for $299, and will ship mid-November. The Motoactv debuts November 6 and will be priced at $249 for an 8GB unit and $299 for 16GB.

Samsung, Google unveil 'Galaxy Nexus'

At a special event in Hong Kong on Wednesday, Samsung and Google jointly announced the Galaxy Nexus and unveiled Android 4, codenamed Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS), the next major version of Google's mobile operating system. The hardware specs are impressive and the platform update offers some compelling new features.

Google first announced plans for ICS during its Google I/O conference back in May. The search giant said that the update would likely come in the fourth quarter and that it would bring together the Android tablet and smartphone environments in a cohesive user experience. The big unveiling was expected to take place alongside CTIA earlier this month, but was pushed back to this week and relocated in Hong Kong alongside the AsiaD conference.

Samsung started the press event by unveiling the Galaxy Nexus, an impressive new smartphone that the consumer electronics company codeveloped with Google to serve as the ICS launch device. Rumors about the device's lofty specs have been circulating for months. The highlight is its 4.65-inch Super AMOLED display with an impressive 1280x720 resolution. The device has a curved form factor that is said to give it a natural feel despite its large size.

The device also has a 1.2GHz dual-core TI OMAP4 CPU, front and rear-facing cameras and 1GB of RAM. Samsung says that there will be separate models with HSPA+ and LTE connectivity available depending on region. Other connectivity features include Bluetooth, WiFi, and NFC. It also has the full array of sensors, including a built-in gyroscope and barometer. The device is scheduled to ship in November with Android 4 on board.

While most expected Suzuki to launch a new 250 cc motorcycle this festive season, the Japanese motorcycle firm has surprised every one with the smaller Intruder The Intruder M1800 has been a hit India but its sales numbers are not that high due to its big price tag. However the Intruder M800 will offer a cheaper alternative.

The new Intruder will have the same styling elements as its bigger sibling. Some of the highlights of the Intruder B800 will be chrome finished fuel tank, side panels, wheels and tyres. Some of the differences in the M800 with the M1800 is the smaller fairings and different looking radiator and exhaust.

The M800 Intruder will be powered by a 805cc V twin petrol engine that can generate a whopping 53PS. The engine is paired with a five speed gearbox. The front wheels will get twin disk brakes while the rear wheel will have to make do with a simple drum brake system.
