Here are a bunch though from over the last few months.

No trip to Austria should be without Schnitzel.

Full waterproofs it is. The paths could easily be confused with streams. The wind was so strong on the tops you had to crouch. Good to get out – but also nice to get out of weather once done.

The Bull’s Head in Craswall was the perfect place to retreat to. That classic old stone pub that has worn flagstone floors that prove it has been there forever. Inside it great food and perfect pints.

A short drive away was Hope Cove from which we explored at low tide then walked up onto the coastal path. It was a beautiful sunny day with barely any wind.

We made a couple of trips to Bantham to surf. The first one was a gloomy afternoon, albeit pretty fantastic surf conditions. The second was another beautiful day, but conditions were very tame.

The majority of our time was spent enjoying the spa, or driving down very narrow lanes. Nice part of the World out of season!

I went out on a 5m kite. It is not often I ride something so small. It was a fun session, I got some good waves, but more energy was going into dealing with avoiding other water users than actually riding waves. I decided to call it quits whilst I was ahead. I went back in for a cup of tea and a donut.

After a stressful few days running the KFC, Chris turned up keen for a session. The beach has started to clean out by now and conditions were settling. He went out on the parawing, so I grabbed the camera and found myself a sheltered nook in the cliff to take shots from.

Rather than riding the nice mellow waves in the bay, he opted to head out to the monster swells crashing on the Doom Bar where the estuary meets the Atlantic. It was sizeable out there.

As I was starting to tire of my spot in the cliff I saw Liam head out on the kite, boosting high. It was a pretty cool backdrop so I moved around a bit to get a nice shot.

After sitting watching Chris have an epic session, then Liam go back out Freddie figured he should join in as opposed to being done for the day. He geared back up and joined Chris, so I settled back into my spot in the cliff.

The sunset session was in full swing. Liam was back out on the parawing too. It had been a couple of hours since I started snapping. I took a couple quick ones of Liam before heading off to get changed and rig up for my own sunset session.

Saturday was windy and decent swell. A southerly swell means frontside riding for me at Newgale, which is a rarity. Great conditions and for the most part I was the only kitesurfer out. A huge beach shared with a few surfers upwind and a few windsurfers downwind.

Not long after the session started the rain came in. It didnt make too much difference in the water but it isnt the most fun out of the water. Heavy rain set in for the rest of the afternoon.

We headed to St Davids for dinner. It can be a bit hit or miss for food but by the time we were done with dinner the rain had stopped and we walked round the city where the cathedral was lit up.

Sunday was a whole new day. Sunny from the get go. We had to wait a bit for the tide to drop before heading down for a surf. It was small but fun and I had a new board to get the hang of. The Infinity Escape Pod is a little twin fin which was fun in small conditions.

After lunch I noticed some paragliders flying from the house. Having never flown Newgale before I was keen to give it a go. It is a tiny spot really with only enough space for a couple of gliders in the conditions. It is very scenic though so I went for it.

With a couple of hours to kill before our dinner reservation and an incredible sunset I figured I should go surf again. It wasnt as clean as earlier but there were plenty of waves to be had.

Monday morning we had to clean out and head back home. I managed to squeeze in a final surf before hitting the road to finish off a pretty much perfect long weekend.

Temperatures dropped quickly that evening and we woke up to rain. It soon cleared up a bit but we figured we would go and try find some flamingos in nearby San Teodoro and the long sand strip at La Cinta with a big lagoon behind it. There was no joy on the flamingo front.

The next few days were pretty sunny but windless so spent wandering, sunbathing, reading and snorkelling. We could stroll down into Porto Ottiolu, grab a coffee, wander along the coastal path and find a little cove. The wild flowers were out in force. One day we took a drive up to Palau and Porto Pollo for a change of scenery.

Finally on the last day the wind made a comeback. I spent the whole day at the beach and tried to get as many hours on the water as possible. The local weather patterns certainly seemed to be off track somewhat, but I have no doubt this is a great water sports location.

First things first we explored the beach in Saundersfoot itself starting to walk north. The tide was out meaning you could go pretty far. Eventually we turned back to get some lunch.

A short drive to Broad Haven South Beach opened up a very scenic walk – first the beach and Church Rock, then we walked inland round the Lily Pools.

Finally I took a look at Freshwater West. I had never been before but heard it was a legendary wave spot. The surf looked big and messy. I paddled out. I got out back and the waves were enormous. After a couple of big sets and getting dragged by my ankle leash I concluded I had no business there so paddled back in.

Sunday we walked south on Saundersfoot beach to Monkstone from which you can see Tenby. No camera that day. A lovely weekend in a beautiful spot of the World.

Over Christmas we had a foggy walk round Grimwith Reservoir in Yorkshire. This is the home of a sailing club and popular with local wingfoilers. There was no wind this day but I bet it looks pretty scenic on a good day.

This weekend just gone we walked round Mortimer Forest near Ludlow. It was cold. Trying to snow but not quite managing. No views from the top but I enjoyed the fog. A chance to test out a new camera set up after the demise of my trusty workhorse which had endured over a decade of travels.

We kicked things off in tourist mode heading to the Needles – the only spot anyone has really heard of. No doubt a bit of a circus in season, but in late autumn it was pretty quiet. We enjoyed the chalk cliffs which look so different to the scenery we are used to and walking along the coastal path.

We were based in Brook on the west side of the Island. It is pretty rural and pleasant with easy access to big beaches at low tide. Again a great spot to walk the dog whilst admiring the chalk cliffs.

We drove to Gurnard, parked up and walked towards Cowes. It was cool looking back towards the mainland and figuring out where places were. It goes without saying sailing is a big deal round here. Fun to watch. We met up with Lance and went for a light wind wing followed by a pint and dinner.

The wet weather came in. We headed to Shanklin for brunch. The waves crashing onto the sea wall looked pretty cool making spray fly upwards. Obviously the second the camera came out it just wouldn’t happen with anywhere near the same power.

We went on a couple more wet walks. We will return in summer. There is obviously huge potential for good times on the Island.
