I’m pleased and honoured that The Ural Winter made numner 3 in Michael McKeegan’s (Therapy?) top 5 on AU Magazine’s Albums of 2012 poll. When I was a teenager, a Screamager if you will, Therapy? were my favourite band and I still have enormous love & respect for their music so this has has an added significance for me. I’m genuinely moved.

Belfast Music Week Showcase Review

It was a pleasure and a privilege to perform at Belfast Music Week. Thank you to all of you who crammed into Katy’s Bar to see us play and apologies to those who tried to get but couldn’t.

State Magazine were there to document the event and their review is now online. Of our set they have this to say;

” Singer-songwriter Tom McShane and his band set up in an extremely cramped Katy Daly’s to perform tracks from his recently released debut album The Ural Winter. McShane’s retro style of ’50s Americana suits the intimate setting and vice versa; it’s easy to imagine the understated charm of songs like ‘Fighter’ going down well in a distant Speakeasy, and McShane’s subtle storytelling and stage presence are all too capable of taking you there. The buzz around the Dundrum native may have died down somewhat since his album release, but he surely stands as one of the country’s brighter stars right now.”

Belfast Music Week

I am very excited to announce that I will be performing two shows as part of Belfast Music Week.

On Wednesday 7th November I’ll be playing an In-Store at HMV Belfast. This is a free event kicking off at 12.30.

On Thursday 8th November I’ll be performing at the Belfast Music Week Showcase. This is the main Music Week event and will take place across the three Limelight venues.

Awesome Scottish Music Blog, 17 Seconds have written a lovely review of The Ural Winter.

“…It’s brilliant. Songs like ‘Love Is Hard’ and the title are not just haunting songs, but the way they have been recorded and performed leaves you with a feeling of something very special and different. Produced by Tom with Rocky O’Reilly, the effect is that of a lo-fi Phil Spector. It’s an intimate wall of sound -and comparisons may very reasonably drawn with the likes of eagleowl and Low. And as songs like ‘One Man Band’ demonstrate, many many moments of loveliness lie within.”
