DAY 4 : RAIN.
Scottish question: What to do on a rainy day ?

Back home, we would probably stay in front of the internet checking the next sunny window to come up, but here, you have to deal with it.

It's a fact. We are now leaving Aviemore to Fort William to settle down for the rest of the trip.

After stoping by a fish and chip shop, we head to a place called Dunkeld to go dry tooling. A perfect way to get rid of the fat just ingested. Once the car park reached, it's now looking for the spot.

7 mountain guides looking for a spot (3mn away from the car), for 45mn... well done!!

We are now in an old slate working place...

Usha !! Improper for such activity...

Trad is dead... Welcome to Bolt-Land !

It doesn't really matter anyway we are hungry for working out and it will fit perfectly. Everyone make tries everywhere, some spending their energy in routes such as Fast and furious. There are holes everywhere for the axes and most of the holds are hand cut.

After a long struggle in this jurassic atmosphere, the night is now in the game. Switching on our Ultra headlamps to throw some more tries. Arms are finally sore and everyone looks finally happy.

Then the stress... we are late for dinner in Fort William and Erwan is driving... the roads are wet, tiny, dark, people driving on the right wrong side. At the back, everyone open up a can of strongbow cider 5.2% to relax. But every time a truck arrives in front of us, it's tight teeth and eyes wide open ! We finally arrive late for dinner but alive. After gobbled up our reheated Veggie Haggis, we check out the weather forecast for the next day :

Rain, wind, storm with rising temperature...

We are in South Africa for the last weeks.
It's just a really fast news from RockLand... We are climbing there, is so good.
Tons of really nice lines and we have such a good weather.

YOOOO !! I did a bouldering comp this week-end !!

After severals months of skiing & mountaineering, it was good to restart climbing.
I had a good training with two days in Fontainebleau and three days in Annot.

With a big group of friends we headed to El Cogul, and after a lot of stops (to buy wine 'y jamón'...) we finally arrived, to climb some good "spanish problems". We start by night with a nice prow (as a special preparation for the X-tones comp...)

Saturday morning, the qualifications : Sixteen boulders problems for warming up, fiveteen cool and one eliminante. I did the best qualification, in a "Jérôme Meyer's" style... I explain the strategy :
You look for the betas, and after a huge mental work, you try a flash attempt !! That's a pretty good way to keep skin and power...

The day was really hot and we had only three hours to climb.
The qualifications deadline was ten boulders minimum, and besides, Mike Fuselier missed the Finals because he forgot to give his paper to the judges... ;-))

The best problem of the day was a huge prow. Chris did it first, he was really motivated to compete. This motivation inspired me a lot...
He was not here for sightseeing, and he was right ! I tried to remenber that for the Finals...

* FINALS *

The final game was at night time, in a kind of quarry.
It was nice, the climbing was interresting and for a comp it was ok, but that's not the kind of problems I really like...

I tried to be as motivated as the other climbers, but it was not my style. After one hour of easy problems, we started to attempt the four hard problems.
A diedral with a very slippery left foot. Just too hard for me (five tries !!). During this time Klemen and Bruno sent the left and the right problems.

At this time Mike said to me :

- "if you climb these two problems, you can win !!", I said :
- "Ok dude"...

After few tries I sent the left one. My arms were really tired but my mind was full of energy and inspiration.
I tried the right one flash, and sent it after a good fight. At this time, I didn't really know whether Bruno was like me or he had more tries.

I tried the last problem do-able for me, but I had only twenty minutes to send it. Klemen was close to succeed as well!! I started to try with him.
If I did it, I was sure to win.
After a couple of tries, it was the end of the comp and my last try for this double dyno : I jumped, and I was close to reach the left hand!! What a shame!!!

Afterwards, there was the big fiesta and an unexpected football game on a tennis playground...
The next day was a great day with Erwan's birthday.

It was also weird, because two friends of me were in the hospital.
I was happy to win the comp and sad for them, I hope everything will be allright for my friends....

We finally had a long "french private party" for the pleasure to be with Erwan and the Petzl team.

Hello,

After a week, the sensation is really good. We did a good job during this trip and it was amazing to share passion with all this guys from different sport, Photography, BASE, skiing, snowbording and alpinism. Now a long version. Guigui and all the video team have done a huge work in a short time. I'm
happy to have participate at this trip. If you want to participate with us, VOTE FOR THE MOVIE !!

Yo, it's a very good week. Perfect weather and good conditions for all sports. I'm really happy of the pictures, and the movie will be amazing. All the team was happy and it was interesting to see this melting of sports. I'm going to take some ice climbing pictures.

Hello,

We spent a lot of time to find a place for one particular picture. All the team is ready to try this famous shooting today. It will be hard, but possible. The weather forecast are perfect, I'm sure we will see some amazing movies next saturday.

The conditions are perfect.

One Nissan car for each team. It's a good idea but it's dangerous!

Hello,

The Outdoors games are coming. I feel like a small children. I'm very psyched. It's really good to discover a new way to practice. I will be a photographer/actor for this event. The team is ready and I'm training and practicing my camera control every day.

Amazing vision in Bishop! It was a crazy day. I also saw one perfect line, "Xavier roof". A nice projet for my last week in California...

I'm in BISHOP right now. It's a really good area to climb. I have just to look for my power. The weather is always perfect.

There are differents areas, we can choice the elevation to have the good temperature. The rock is also amazing. A lot of beautifull lines!

It's deffinitly a good place to boulder!!!

The weather is bad, i've got injuries, but i'm happy. I'm climbing with friends, the place is just amazing.
We have done a long travel with strange fuel to come. I'm in front of my computer and i look for the web-climbing-news in the world.
I find a good boulder video: Team les Collets website. The name is "le balais des tracto-pelles. A good problem in Ailefroide.
It's a strange life. I'm waiting for tomorrow, i hope it will be possible to climb.
