He came back on Friday night to back it up with his second-straight victory in the 100-mile event aboard the RW Motorsports – Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil #27 Beast/Wallace Toyota.

“Winning this race just once and joining that list of names, that was a huge deal in itself. To come back and join the group of guys who have won it more than once, and won it back-to-back, it’s just amazing,” Coons said of his romp that accounted for 87 laps led.

Tracy Hines jumped from the front row to lead at the start, but a cluster of cautions slowed the pace and set up multiple double-file restarts. Those proved pivotal, as Coons used a restart on lap 14 to leap past Hines and take a lead he would never relinquish.

Hines, who had trouble in particular on restarts, lost a few positions as Bud Kaeding became the sole threat to Coons’ domination. Kaeding kept pace throughout much of the race, even as they left the rest of the field far behind, but a small mistake late in the race cost the Campbell, California driver any chance at the win.

“We hung right with him there a good part of the race, and then I hit the fence down on the inside of turn-four and shot myself up the track. I lost a lot of ground there and picked up a vibration, so just under-drove it from there trying to hang on. I’m not sure we had a better car than him, but we definitely have made progress, especially on restarts. It’s gonna be a learning curve year, but I’m glad we’re on the front end of it,” Kaeding said of his pursuit of a fourth series championship aboard the BK Motorsports – Alviso Rock #29 DRC/Speedway Mopar.

Back-to-back and defending series champion Levi Jones had a huge hill to climb, but after qualifying 14th, the Olney, Illinois driver climbed to a podium finish aboard the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing – Chevrolet Performance #10 Maxim/Kistler.

“We’re just trying to figure everything out with the fuel and everything. We thought we had a pretty good handle on everything, but obviously we were terrible early. We got it to where it restarted pretty well and didn’t get hot, but I think we hurt it a little at the beginning of the night. To get that far, we just had to hit some restarts and put ourselves in a decent position, and we got a good finish out of it,” Jones said.

Bobby East followed his teammate home to finish fourth aboard the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing – Chevrolet Performance #22 Maxim/Kistler. Kody Swanson rounded out the top-five in the Jet Star – Toyota #19 Beast/Claxton.

Kraig picked up his lone win in 2005 and Steve was victorious in the Outlaws first event at Kokomo in 1978 as well as in 1983, 1984, 1986, 1987 and 1988.

“It’s always nice to be able to run a couple of hours and race,” Steve said. “I’ve only got to run there a couple of times since they changed the race track from what it was when I started. It’s definitely to the better. It’s a good, racy race track.

“The last two times I’ve been there they’ve banked the track. It used to be really flat. It’s completely different from what it was. It’s a lot better race track from what it used to be.”

It’s a time to remember and honor those who protect and serve this country. The sport of auto racing is just about as American as it gets and, on Memorial Day weekend, the sport traditionally takes center stage nationally with major events in Charlotte and Indianapolis. The World of Outlaws (WoO) Sprint Car Series brings its grassroots short-track racing heritage to both regions beginning with Friday’s Circle K NOS Energy Outlaw Showdown at The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C., and concluding Monday with an event at Lawrenceburg (Ind.) Speedway.

Tony Stewart Racing’s (TSR) Steve Kinser and Donny Schatz lead the Outlaws into this weekend of opportunity. Kinser, driver of the TSR No. 11 Bass Pro Shops/J.D. Byrider/Chevrolet Maxim, intensified his pursuit of a 21st WoO championship by winning his second race of the season last weekend in New York and, by doing so, climbed atop the championship standings. Schatz, pilot of TSR’s No. 15 STP/Armor All/Chevrolet J&J, comes into the weekend as defending race-winner at both The Dirt Track and Lawrenceburg. Schatz, who has led the WoO championship standings five times in 2012, swept a pair of races at The Dirt Track in last fall’s World Finals and was victorious in the Outlaws’ most recent stop on the high banks of Lawrenceburg in June 2009.

After dominating last year’s World Finals, Schatz is optimistic that a return visit to the 4/10-mile, semi-banked dirt oval will be the cure to what is currently ailing his STP-backed team. The four-time WoO champion is the only driver to compete in all 29 WoO races staged at The Dirt Track, which opened in May 2000. He has won on the red clay six times, earned 20 top-fives, and finished inside the top-10 25 times. The Fargo, N.D., resident has finished inside the top-eight 16 consecutive times at Charlotte. He has twice won the May Outlaw Showdown. The first was in 2007, when he fell back as far as 10th before charging back past leader Paul McMahan with only a handful of laps remaining. In 2010, Schatz fended off several challenges from Joey Saldana to score the Charlotte victory. Last May, he raced his way from ninth to finish third behind McMahan and Kinser.

Kinser has been extremely consistent at The Dirt Track in his 28 starts. His first victory came in October 2000, and that win was part of a nine-race stretch where he didn’t finished worse than fourth. His most recent victory in Charlotte came when he closed the 2007 WoO campaign by winning the World Finals finale. Last season, he finished second in May’s Outlaw Showdown and again came home second to close the year, following Schatz to the finish line. Those results give him eight career runner-up finishes at the track, and “The King of the Outlaws” comes in on a hot streak, winning two of the last four WoO races.

Back home in Indiana is just where Kinser will be happy to be on Monday for the Outlaws’ second 2012 stop in the Hoosier state. Monday’s event will be the ninth time in WoO history the Winged Warriors compete at the southeastern Indiana dirt oval. In the first eight WoO races, eight different drivers have been victorious, starting with Kinser’s win in 1979 when the Outlaws made their debut in Lawrenceburg.

When Schatz raced to victory at Lawrenceburg in June 2009, Indiana became the 28th state where Schatz earned a WoO A-Feature triumph. The STP driver out-dueled Jason Meyers and Saldana for the win and continued a string of top finishes at the track. In 2004, he finished third after a race-long battle with Danny Smith, and he charged from 14th to fourth in 2006.

Kinser’s victory Saturday at Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown, N.Y., was his 572nd career WoO A-Feature win and pushed him into a tie with Sammy Swindell for the top spot in the championship standings. His run from 25th to 11th Sunday at Hagerstown (Md.) Speedway allowed him to open up an 18-point advantage on Swindell heading into Charlotte. Schatz made a similar run through the field Sunday, racing from 26th to 10th to keep contact with Kinser in the standings. Schatz ranks third and trails Kinser by 32 markers with 21 of 78 scheduled races in the books.

Friday’s Circle K NOS Energy Outlaw Showdown at The Dirt Track at Charlotte is expected to be contested in front of a sellout crowd of more than 15,000 spectators, as well as a national television audience with SPEED airing its first WoO event of 2012. Ralph Sheheen, Brad Doty, Bobby Gerould and Matt Yocum will bring fans the action during SPEED’s live broadcast beginning at 8 p.m. EDT.

Friday at The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway, the pit gates will open at 1 p.m. EDT with the grandstands opening at 4:30 p.m. Racing is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. For more details, contact The Dirt Track at (800) 455-3267. The official Web site of Charlotte Motor Speedway is www.charlottemotorspeedway.com.

Monday at Lawrenceburg, the pit gates will open at 3 p.m. EDT with the grandstands opening at 4 p.m. Hot laps are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. For more details and ticket information, contact Lawrenceburg Speedway at (812) 539-4700 or visit the track’s Web site at www.lawrenceburgspeedway.com.

Race fans unable to attend this week’s races can catch all of the action on DIRTVision.com. Fans can listen live as Johnny Gibson, “Voice of the Outlaws,” calls the action as he does at all WoO Sprint Series events on the DIRTVision.com cybercast, as well as on the DIRT Radio Network. Go to www.DIRTVision.com for more information on all the site features, including updated results from each night of racing, as well as a chat room to interact with other race fans.

Steve Kinser, Driver of the No. 11 TSR/Bass Pro Shops/J.D. Byrider/Chevrolet Maxim:

With victories on consecutive Saturdays, you have not only gotten back into the points chase, but you’ve opened up a lead. Does this validate the claim that winning races is the most important aspect in chasing a title?

“I’d say that winning is what you need to concentrate on. These past two weeks, we’ve been able to get ourselves in a little better position to win and, thankfully, we’ve come through. It wasn’t that long ago that I felt like I might be losing my chance at being in the championship hunt, but you can see how quickly things can change. We had a good night and Sammy (Swindell) and Donny (Schatz) struggled and it helped us jump right back in there. Now, we have to keep ourselves in the hunt every night and capitalize on the opportunities. We’ve got two wins and we’re on top, but I know it’s going to take quite a few more in order to win this thing.”

Friday night marks your return to Charlotte. Last year, you had a pair of seconds, so you have to be excited about heading back?

“We are definitely looking forward to Friday night. Charlotte is a pretty fast place and, as long as the track opens up a little bit where we can do some passing, it should be a really good show. It’s a big stage for us with all the NASCAR people in town for the (Coca-Cola) 600. We want to make some new fans and the best way to do that is by putting on a good show. Last year, I felt like we had a really good package for Charlotte and, hopefully, we can start with that and be right where we need to be. It’s been a long time since I won there, so we’d like to snap that streak if we can and make all the people involved with Tony Stewart Racing proud.”

Donny Schatz, Driver of the No. 15 TSR/STP/Armor All/Chevrolet J&J:

The first quarter of the season is now over. Has the season gone as planned?

“We planned on being a lot better than we have been. Last fall, we went to Talladega (Short Track in Alabama) and then Charlotte to close the year and really had a good package. We finished second at Talladega and won both nights at Charlotte and really felt like we were headed in the right direction. This year, we tried some things early in Florida that didn’t seem to lead us where we wanted. Rick Warner and Steve Swenson are working really hard to get us back where we can be a contending team. We’re not there, yet, but we’ll get there. I guess the positive is that I don’t feel like we’ve even come close to where we can be and things are still right there for us. I’m sure hoping we have a lot better second quarter and that leads to an incredible second half of the season.”

You’ve had more success than any other driver at The Dirt Track. What has been the secret to your success there?

“I don’t know that we have a secret, but Charlotte just seems to be one of those places where our combination works. We race there twice a year. First in May, when the weather is just starting to get hot, and then we close the year there in November. In May, it always seems to be about the time things start going good for us and, in November, it’s like we’ve been working on things for the upcoming year and they are really coming together. I love racing there. The people come out and support the event. The energy and buzz about the event is something that really adds to the race. We race to win and, fortunately, we’ve been able to win a few races in Charlotte. Right now, we could really use a good night and I can’t think of a better place than Charlotte for us to get things back the way we need them to be.”

He clocked in almost a quarter of a second faster than anyone else – and less than two-tenths off the track record – in qualifying, charged from fourth to claim his heat race, nearly won the dash after starting sixth and led all 25 laps of the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet presents the Kasey Kahne Challenge brought to you by O’Neill Race Gear feature.

“We had a good race car from the time we unloaded,” Dollansky said after his third World of Outlaws win of the season.

It was his first career Outlaws victory at Hagerstown Speedway in the series return to the half-mile track following a six-year absence.

“We could hang with him early and then at the end he got by a couple of lapped cars that really held me up and that was pretty much the end of it,” runner-up Daryn Pittman said.

Dollansky, who pulled a six during the dash inversion, rocketed from sixth to second in turns one and two on the opening lap of the dash. He finished a close second to Paul McMahan, who earned the pole for the feature.

The duo were side by side as they headed toward the first turn after taking the initial green flag, but it was Dollansky who powered to the top spot with Pittman in tow. McMahan fell to fourth, which is where he restarted on the only caution of the race – a spin by Greg Hodnett in turn four on the third lap.

“Just getting into (turn) one is the key,” said McMahan, who rebounded to finish third for his second podium in the last three races. “The bottom is just too slow around the bottom. If you can carry your momentum around the top it’s a better place to be. I had a good start. I just couldn’t clear Craig down the front straightaway so I had to go to the bottom and he just carried momentum around the top, and Daryn followed right along with him.”

Stevie Smith and Logan Schuchart, who restarted third and fifth, respectively, got together in turn two on the restart. It allowed Dollansky and Pittman to pull away, and it gave Cody Darrah an opportunity to rocket from eighth to fourth and Chad Kemenah to advance from 10th to fifth.

One lap later, Sammy Swindell, who entered the race tied for the championship points lead, began to fall toward the back of the field with a steering issue. By that point Dollansky had half a straightaway advantage over Pittman.

They entered traffic on lap 10, which allowed Pittman to quickly gain on Dollansky. The final 15 laps featured the duo sliding lapped cars with Dollansky pulling away to nearly a straightaway lead by the checkered flag.

“When you’re leading you don’t know how big of a lead you have,” Dollansky said. “I felt there was a couple of times we got held up in lapped traffic and I thought it cost us.

“To come out with a win in this area is not easy to do. You’ve got the Pennsylvania Posse here and the best of the World of Outlaws, so I’m just proud of this entire team.”

Smith finished fourth and Kraig Kinser earned his fifth top five of the season. Darrah was sixth, Danny Lasoski maneuvered from 19th to place seventh, Lance Dewease ended eighth and Joey Saldana finished ninth.

After crashing in the Last Chance Showdown, Donny Schatz used a provisional to start last in the feature and he charged from 26th to round out the top 10. It earned him the KSE Hard Charger Award for the fourth time this season.

Schatz’s Tony Stewart Racing teammate, Steve Kinser, also used a provisional and drove from 25th to 11th. That, combined with Swindell’s 20th-place finish, moved Kinser into the championship lead for the first time this season.

NASCAR star Kasey Kahne, who co-promoted the event, finished 15th in his World of Outlaws season debut.

Dollansky, Dewease, Darrah and Swindell picked up wins in the heat races, and Sam Hafertepe Jr. claimed the Last Chance Showdown.

The next Kasey Kahne Challenge event is Tuesday, June 5, at Kokomo Speedway in Kokomo, Ind.

In his first race aboard the RW/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports Rotondo Weirich – Curb Records#17 Beast/Wallace Toyota Silver Crown car, Santos pulled away as the 100 laps wore on, posting an eventual winning margin of 7.512 seconds.

“I don’t think Kody’s car was restarting the greatest, so I just took advantage there and went underneath him. The car was so good, it was a pretty easy drive from there. Usually, I push my car as hard as I can without losing the tires, and I’m really more comfortable coming from behind, but that’s just how good my car was tonight. I’m excited for all the races with this team, and to join with my teammates to run for a championship in the Midgets and with Bryan (Clauson) in this,” Santos said.

Kody Swanson, who won the last Silver Crown race at the facility, took the pole and led at the start, before a lap-four yellow for Brian Tyler, who suffered a broken axle on the front-stretch. On the restart, Santos pounced, leaving everyone to watch the battles behind him.

Three-time series champion Bud Kaeding reeled in Swanson over the final few laps looking for the runner-up spot. Kody held on to finish second in the Six-R Racing – Jet Star – K&N Filters #19 Beast/Claxton Toyota. Kaeding held on to fill the podium in the BK Motorsports – Kaeding Performance – Alviso Rock #29 Beast/Speedway Mopar.

The best battle over the final few laps developed as Jacob Wilson encountered a pack of lapped cars. Using the traffic as his opportunity, Tanner Swanson swept by to claim fourth in the Six-R Racing – Jet Star – K&N Filters #23 Beast/Claxton Toyota. Wilson rounded out the top-five in the Wilson Brothers Racing – Jet Star – Toyota #07 Beast/Toyota.

The event was run just after ceremonies held to honor the inaugural class inducted into the newly-formed USAC Hall of Fame, which consisted of J.C. Agajanian, Mario Andretti, Gary Bettenhausen, Tom Binford, Jimmy Bryan, Duane Carter, A.J. Foyt, Tony Hulman, Parnelli Jones, Mel Kenyon, Roger McCluskey, and Rich Vogler.

“It’s nothing that hasn’t happened many years before,” Kinser said of his renewed rivalry with Swindell.

Kinser led all 25 laps of the main event at the 5/8-mile oval, which has featured a different winner in the past six World of Outlaws events dating back to 1999. However, Kinser is a familiar face in Victory Lane.

He claimed the first race at Orange County Fair Speedway in 1983 and won five more within a decade. After starting on the pole on Saturday, it appeared that his sixth victory – which is twice as many as any other driver – was eminent.

Kinser rocketed to a 10-car advantage in front of son, Kraig Kinser, on the opening lap. The duo paced the field with Kraig beginning to close the gap on lap five. They entered traffic on the ninth lap and were side by side on the frontstretch of lap 10.

The elder maintained the lead and the preferred lane around the bottom. The race went cautionless until lap 21 when it became just the opposite.

There were eight cautions and a red flag for a fuel stop in the final five laps. In fact, only three drivers of the 24 starters weren’t involved in a caution or didn’t pull into the pits.

“I was up front where I could be a little bit easier on tires,” Kinser said. “I nursed mine as much as I could. We just barely made it ourselves.

“It’s a bad feeling when you’re sitting there leading the race and you’re seeing half the field change tires and put new tires on ….”

Kraig Kinser was one of the catastrophes as a tire issue on the final lap dropped him from the runner-up position to 15th. That allowed Swindell to gain a few positions in the final laps to salvage a second-place finish and keep himself tied for the points lead.

“When we took off I could see that guys were just slipping the tires way too much,” Swindell said. “This place is real abrasive, so I just sat back there and rode for half the race. I just wanted to make sure I had tires at the end.”

Frank Cozze earned the KSE Hard Charger Award after maneuvering from last – 24th- to place third.

“Well we got a little bit of luck out there with the guys with the tires,” he said. “Plus I’ve probably raced here about 35 or 36 years, so I kinda know the place. You’ve gotta kind of cool it at the beginning and get lucky. And we got lucky. If it had run straight through we would have run 15th.

“It feels pretty good to get a podium finish with anybody. I don’t care if it was Mickey Mouse at this point.”

Daryn Pittman rebounded from causing a caution on a restart of lap 22 because of a tire issue. He restarted 19th and finished fourth. David Gravel rounded out the top five after facing a similar fate because of a flat tire with three laps remaining.

Joey Saldana was sixth, Fred Rahmer seventh, Paul McMahan eighth, Craig Dollansky ninth and Lucas Wolfe placed 10th. All went to the work area at some point during those final five laps to fix a flat tire.

Logan Schuchart set fast time in qualifying with a lap of 17.336 seconds, which was more than four-tenths quicker than anyone else. Swindell outlasted Steve Kinser to win the first heat race and Kraig Kinser and McMahan also claimed a heat race. Davey Franek won the Last Chance Showdown.

The World of Outlaws head to Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, Md., for the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet presents the Kasey Kahne Challenge brought to you by O’Neill Race Gear event tonight.

The son of legendary car builder Bob East, who turned heads by becoming the youngest USAC winner ever when he won a National Midget Series race at Anderson (Ind.) Speedway in April 2001 at the age of 16 years, six months and 25 days, is stepping into a pretty sweet ride, at that.

East’s goal, needless to say, is to help bring TSR a third consecutive Silver Crown title and, of course, he would like nothing more than to grab the coveted trophy himself.

“I’m excited about the 2012 season, for sure,” said the 27-year-old, whose ninth season in the Silver Crown Series in 2011 was his best yet with a sixth-place finish in the final standings driving for Terry Klatt Racing. “We’ve been pretty close the past couple of years and, getting to drive for Tony Stewart & Curb-Agajanian, that should push us closer to being able to compete for the Silver Crown championship. I’ve had a great run with Terry Klatt. He has given me great opportunities over the years. And, now, I’m really excited and honored to be part of TSR and the Chevrolet Performance and Curb Records team. Everything Tony (Stewart) is involved with is about winning races and championships. I’m going to do my best to try and do that. Obviously, that shop has won quite a few, so this is a tremendous opportunity for me.”

While TSR and driver Jones have collaborated on the last two Silver Crown championships – not to mention three straight USAC Sprint Series championships and five of the last seven – the Stewart-East combination has proven to be a formidable force in Silver Crown circles over the years. Tony Stewart and East’s father were co-owners of four consecutive Silver Crown Series championship efforts from 2002 to 2005 with driver J.J. Yeley capturing the crown in 2002 and 2003 and David Steele topping the points in 2004 and 2005.

As he and TSR work toward bringing home a third consecutive Silver Crown title in 2012, the younger East feels he’s bringing a wealth of pavement race experience and success to the table.

“We’ve had pretty good success on pavement in the Silver Crown Series,” East said. “We’ve won eight pavement races in recent years, so hopefully that will help the cause. Levi (Jones) obviously runs well on pavement and dirt so, hopefully, I’ll be able to draw from him and improve both our chances to win the championship for Chevrolet and Curb Records.”

East is certainly no stranger to winning USAC events and championships. Since breaking into the National Midget Series ranks in 2001, the year he earned series Rookie of the Year honors, East has amassed 44 victories in USAC’s top three divisions – Silver Crown, Sprint Series and Midgets – through this point of the 2012 season.

He won the 2004 Midget Series title in the No. 9 Steve Lewis Racing car built by his father to become the youngest champion in USAC history at 19 years of age. He scored seven wins and 18 top-five finishes in 23 Midget Series starts that year.

While he has remained a fixture in USAC Racing circles every year since, East’s Midget Series title in 2004 opened the door for opportunities driving stock cars for various high-profile organizations beginning in 2005, when he made his debut in an ARCA Series event at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway in the No. 29 Clorox Ford.

East made his NASCAR Nationwide Series debut later that year, driving the No. 46 Armor All Ford to a solid 17th-place finish at Memphis (Tenn.) Motorsports Park in October. He then made his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series debut in November of that year at Phoenix International Raceway.

Ford was duly impressed with East’s stock-car-racing prowess and promptly made him part of its driver development program in 2006 as driver of a Wood Brothers Racing/JTG Racing racetruck as teammate to fellow Truck Series rookie Marcos Ambrose. East finished 23rd in the standings despite missing two events.

In 2007, East stepped up to the Nationwide Series ranks, splitting his time between the Nos. 27 and 37 Brewco Motorsports Fords in a limited, 10-race schedule. His best result was a solid top-12 at the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Jack Roush brought East on board for the 2008 Camping World Truck Series season as driver of the No. 09 Zaxby’s Ford racetruck. East scored a pair of eighth-place finishes at Memphis and Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth as his best results for Roush Fenway Racing, and he added his first career NASCAR pole in July at O’Reilly Raceway Park in Clermont, Ind.

The last three seasons have seen East continue to reel off victories and contend for titles in USAC competition. In the Midget Series, East brought home season-ending finishes of fifth and seventh in 2009 and 2010, respectively, with four wins and 17 top-five finishes in 34 starts during that time.

He scored a pair of wins each in the National Silver Crown and Sprint Series in 2011 en route to earning his career-best finish of sixth in the Silver Crown standings.

East was born in Torrance, Calif., grew up in Brownsburg, Ind., and continues to reside there. He enjoys playing golf and is an avid fan of the National Football League’s Indianapolis Colts.

It doesn’t matter if you haven’t met. After all, he picked up his first World of Outlaws win of the season Wednesday at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park thanks to the help of a truck driver he found on Facebook.

A former touring Outlaw who has already pieced together rides with four different teams this season, McMahan can’t make it to the next race without a certified trucker.

It doesn’t matter if you haven’t met. After all, he picked up his first World of Outlaws win of the season Wednesday at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park thanks to the help of a truck driver he found on Facebook.

“Don’t ask me his name because I don’t know,” McMahan said with a big grin.

With only one crew member – Cody Jacobs – McMahan pieced together his way to the track, around the 5/8-mile oval and out of Victory Lane.

“We don’t even have a four-wheeler,” he said. “We had to bum a ride to get from Victory Lane.”

Despite only having seven spare tires – three right rears, three left rears and one front – and a couple of extra wings, McMahan set the tone for the SPEEDfest event from the drop of the green flag, was patient on a couple of double-file restarts and cruised to his first World of Outlaws victory since Sept. 9 of last year.

“This is where I want to be,” McMahan said. “I want to race with the World of Outlaws. This is where I belong. This is what I want to do. So to come out here and to bounce from car to car is tough to do.

“This is very cool for me. This is one of the top (wins). It’s not as high as my first one, but this one’s really high for me because I got released after one of my best years last year with the World of Outlaws and to come back and show these guys that I can still get the job done is very gratifying.”

After qualifying fifth quick and finishing fifth in his heat race, McMahan, who is currently driving for Tom Buch, advanced to the dash. The dash inversion was a six, starting him on the outside of the front row for the six-lap race. He led the entire race to earn the pole for the 25-lap feature.

It didn’t take long for McMahan to build a giant lead in the main event. With a twister of dust being kicked up around the track, McMahan rocketed to the big advantage on the opening lap. He reached traffic on lap six as David Gravel was the only driver to stay within striking distance.

A caution on lap 10 for the first of two spins by April Wilson bunched the field together and McMahan chose the outside lane on the double-file restart. He again launched to a sizeable margin before getting into traffic on lap 15. Gravel’s throttle linkage broke on lap 18, forcing a caution and sending him to the infield for the remainder of the event.

Chad Kemenah restarted second, but Craig Dollansky roared by on the outside as they exited turn two of the restart and McMahan set sail.

“We really want to congratulate Paul McMahan,” Kemenah said. “He’s an awesome guy.”

The final caution of the race for Wilson’s second spin set up a green-white-checker finish and McMahan was untouchable once again. He built more than a one-second lead in the final two laps en route to the win.

Dollansky held off Kemenah for the runner-up position.

“Paul did a good job and drove a great race,” Dollansky said. “I think he was just actually a little better than I was in the open track. I got close to him on the restarts, but there just wasn’t quite enough room to get by. My hat’s off to him and his team. He did a great job with a lower-funded team and for Paul, it’s great to see him get a win here tonight.”

Danny Lasoski finished fourth with Steve Kinser in fifth. Cody Darrah, who set fast time with a lap of 16.257 seconds, was sixth and Sammy Swindell held onto his World of Outlaws points lead with a seventh-place result after two engine changes during the night. Donny Schatz was eighth, Joey Saldana ninth and Kraig Kinser rounded out the top 10.

Lasoski, Saldana and Swindell each claimed a heat race victory and Justin Barger won the Last Chance Showdown.

By the way, McMahan needs that truck driver by Saturday. He plans to head to Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown, N.Y., for the next World of Outlaws event.

Defending race-winner Jerry Coons, Jr. of Tucson, Arizona leads the charge aboard his RW Motorsports #27 as two-time series champion Levi Jones of Olney, Illinois still looks for his first win on a mile in the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing #10. Jones finished second in all four dirt Silver Crown races in 2011 and claimed the pole for last year’s “Hoosier Hundred.”
Just days before running the Indy 500, Coons’ new teammate at RW Motorsports, Bryan Clauson of Noblesville, Indiana, is scheduled to race in his third “Hoosier Hundred.” Clauson has been teammates the past two seasons with Jones.

One week after the World of Outlaws (WoO) Sprint Car Series raced on three consecutive nights, Tony Stewart Racing’s (TSR) Steve Kinser and Donny Schatz, along with the rest of the traveling Winged Sprint car stars, will hit the track three more times this week. A slate that includes a pair of stops in New York, beginning with Wednesday’s race at Rolling Wheels Raceway in Elbridge, N.Y., and concludes with their only 2012 appearance in Maryland. Saturday the Outlaws return to Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown, N.Y., for the first time since the fall of 2008 and, the following night, the series makes its first stop at Hagerstown (Md.) Speedway since the summer of 2005.

Kinser can’t get to the next race fast enough after Saturday night’s performance in the TSR No. 11 Bass Pro Shops/J.D. Byrider/Chevrolet Maxim. The 20-time WoO champion picked up his first victory of 2012 at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., and followed that up with a triumph in the special 10-car match race, tabbed the Morgan Cup. He’ll look to continue the streak Wednesday at Rolling Wheels, where he is an 11-time winner.

Another shot at Rolling Wheels Raceway may be just the medicine Schatz needs following a disappointing weekend at Williams Grove. He is a two-time winner at the 5/8-mile dirt track, with wins in 2004 and 2006, and has earned top-five finishes in five of his last six starts there. Schatz is seeking his fourth victory of the season behind the wheel of the TSR No. 15 STP/Armor All/Chevrolet J&J. The four-time WoO champion will look to breakthrough for his first win at both Orange County Fair Speedway and Hagerstown Speedway. The four-time WoO champion has been close to victory at each track. In June 1999, and again in September 2007, he finished second at Orange County. Schatz last competed at the 5/8-mile dirt oval in September 2008 and finished fifth. His best finish at Hagerstown was also a runner-up finish, which he earned in July 2001, and his most recent race at the half-mile clay oval was during the 2005 season.

Kinser was victorious at both Orange County and Hagerstown early in his career. The Bloomington, Ind., native won the Outlaws’ first race in Middletown in June 1983, and added triumphs in 1985, 1987, 1992 and 1993. He has finished fourth his previous two races at the facility. Like many tracks that have been on the WoO schedule for years, Kinser has both A-Feature and preliminary main wins at Hagerstown. He was first victorious in 1980, and earned both A-Feature and prelim wins in 1990, 1991, and 1994. Kinser last circled the Hagerstown half-mile in August 2006, when the National Sprint Tour competed there.

Kinser’s victory Saturday at Williams Grove was the 571st WoO A-Feature win of his illustrious career. It allowed him to close the gap on points leaders Sammy Swindell and Schatz, who had swapped the top spot in the standings following six consecutive races before struggling Saturday. “The King of the Outlaws” made up valuable points, erasing a 54-point advantage Swindell had over him entering the race. Kinser now ranks second, trailing Swindell by eight markers, and he leads Schatz by four.

Steve Kinser, Driver of the No. 11 TSR/Bass Pro Shops/J.D. Byrider/Chevrolet Maxim:

There is nothing like winning races. Coming out victorious last Saturday night at Williams Grove had to be a big boost. Can you explain your emotions following the victory?

“Winning races does a lot of things. You get your confidence better. Your attitude is better when you get to the track and go through the gate. Confidence, or the lack thereof, can really mess things up for you. Even though I’ve won a lot of races, when you go through dry spells like that, you start questioning yourself and a lot of things. I know what we’ve got here. This is a team very capable of winning a lot of races. If we can get our cars like we had them the other night, I think we can be good the rest of the season.”

All three tracks on the schedule this week are of the larger variety. Do you have a preference in terms of competing on the bigger or smaller tracks?

“I’m excited about going to Rolling Wheels, Orange County and Hagerstown this week. We’ve lost a lot of the bigger tracks over the last eight to 10 years and it’s going to be nice getting back to both of them. If I had to choose, I’d say that I like the bigger tracks just a little better. They are still a lot of fun to make the speed and get the cars working the way they do on the big tracks.”

Donny Schatz, Driver of the No. 15 TSR/STP/Armor All/Chevrolet J&J:

Last weekend, you found yourself deep in the field and not really able to drive forward like you have been able to in the past. How tough is that as a competitor?

“It’s really tough. This sport isn’t about follow-the-leader racing. A couple of the guys were able to get their cars working well enough to drive forward last weekend, so it can be done. We did it the weekend before at Eldora, but we can’t consistently do it, nor do we want to be doing it all the time. We seem to be at the mercy of how we qualify, and that hasn’t been good for most of the year. That’s probably the most frustrating part. We’ve tried just about everything to get our package working the way it needs to. Until we figure that out, we’re simply going to be spinning our wheels. This team won’t quit and we’ll figure it out.”

Does having three races this week give you and your team more opportunities to find the right combination?

“You have to race to get better. Sometimes you can overthink things when you have five days between races. We tried to learn some things this weekend and the STP guys have spent the past couple of days preparing for Rolling Wheels. The positive thing is that we have had success there in the past. At least, we have an idea of what to expect there. We have to take it one step at time. Make a good qualifying lap on Wednesday and start making progress. And then try to build on it at Orange County and Hagerstown.”
