I have now retired and no longer manufacture custom jewelry. I would like to thank all my past customers for their support and trust in me and my craftsmanship. Over the past 30 years years I have worked for customers around the world but mostly for folks living in America. All my unique jewelry was designed/created by the people I made it for. It was sometimes given as a gift or kept by the owner to wear.

No two pieces I made were the same. The wax model was hand carved. I only manufactured one-of-a kind jewelry or sculpture that was unique. I sometimes made multiple copies of a client's jewelry piece at the customer's request. This was done using a rubber mold of the original. I usually cast in sterling silver or a karat gold. I once even cast in bronze. Sometimes gemstones were also set in the design.

I will periodically post some of my past jewelry creations on this blog. I have shut down all my jewelry websites. For my past customers needing assistance my current email address is available on this blog.

Unique Custom Made Pendants

I manufacture custom jewelry that you design. I have been making custom jewelry, for my online customers, since 1999. The pictures on this blog represent some of my work created over the last few months. I can work in either sterling silver or gold but my customers mostly prefer silver.

I have done jewelry pieces with or without gemstones. The gemstones that are used can be natural or synthetic. If you have your own stones you would like to put in your unique ring or pendant I might be able to use them in your custom piece.

I do not copy jewelry designs already made. All my pieces are one-of-a-kind unless my client wants multiple copies of their design. In that case, a rubber mold is made of the first piece that has been carved from wax and cast in silver or gold. Using the rubber mold, a wax mold of the design is produced without it having to be carved.

My labor charge to make a simple pendant starts at $150. This labor charge is based on the complexity of the design. For a custom ring the labor charge begins at $250.

You only pay for the metal that is actually used in your unique pendant or ring. In gold either 10 or 14 karat can be used. The color can be yellow or white in either karat. I don't cast in platinum.

New Unique Bracelets and Pendants Made by Payne's Custom Jewelry

This blog post contains some of my recent custom jewelry work made for my customers. They include silver bracelets and gold and silver pendants. The pendant above was done in 14 karat white gold in a shell design. The white gold chain goes through the piece.

The silver pendant at the left was one that my customer needed numerous duplicates made from the original design. The first pendant is carved in wax. After making the first piece in metal a rubber mold was used to manufacture the additional pendants. Wax was injected into the mold which hardened into wax models of the original pendant.

Normally I do one-of-a-kind custom jewelry pieces. However, some customers request multiple copies of their original design. Below is a unique sterling bracelet I made for a customer. The first link was carved in wax. After it is cast in silver a rubber mold was made in order to produce the rest of the links used to make the bracelet. A silver pin is soldered between each link to make them flexible.

Custom Rings and Pendants Made by Payne's Custom Jewelry

This blog post contains some examples of my recently completed custom pendants and rings. My name is Tony Payne and I manufacture custom jewelry for my customers who want their own designs created in silver or gold. I have been doing this online since 1999 which was around the time Google got started.

The large piece pictured above was made in sterling silver this year from a customer's design. The design is recessed in the metal and antiqued. I can make almost any jewelry design you create in either sterling silver or gold. Your custom piece can be a unique pin, a pair of earrings, bracelet or charm that you design.

I also make custom wedding jewelry including bands, engagement rings and anniversary rings. Your work is done in either white or yellow gold or sterling silver. I can provide any gemstones necessary at a reasonable cost. This includes all grades of diamonds, natural rubies and blue sapphires. Synthetic stones can be used on your jewelry design as well.

This pendant is made in 14 karat white gold with a synthetic star sapphire. I can also order semi-precious stones such as opal or tourquoise for your handmade ring or pendant.

Recently I made some 2 sided pendants for customers. The pendant below is an example. The design in the center is cut into the wax model to produce the finished effect. The recessed part is antiqued black so it will stand out.

Ancient Roman Coin and Lapis Inlay

This is a large unique silver cross that I recently manufactured for one of my customers. It was made using an ancient Roman coin that he had. The deep blue gemstones are four hand cut lapis stones that were inlaid in the cross. The intricate design is on the top and sides and the coin is set from behind with prongs. This cross is one of the most intricate and beautiful jewelry pieces I have produced.

Unique Custom Made Sterling Silver Jewelry

This post contains some of my most recent sterling silver custom jewelry pieces that I manufactured for my Internet customers. They are made from unique designs that my customers described to me in email. Sometimes they send me pictures of exactly what they want in the pendant or bracelet design. Other times they give me a good idea of the design and I send them a sketch for their approval before any work begins. The pendant design pictured above had special sentimental value to my customer.

Pictured above is a clock face bracelet where the design was cut into the wax model and after it was cast in silver the engraved parts were antiqued to give them a dark finish.

Above is a "if pigs could fly" pendant I made recently. It was done from a picture my customer had and wanted the design made into a special custom pendant. Below is a unique sterling silver horseshoe pendant which was also made using a picture the customer had of the design to go by.

The picture below is a sterling silver "tree of life" pendant I made that the original picture of the design was modified by the customer. The design was simplified and names are engraved on the tree roots in the pendant.

Custom Jewelry Making using Lost Wax Casting

The first step in making custom jewelry is you, the customer, getting the idea of a ring, earring or pendant design you would like to have created. Usually you have looked for that special piece of jewelry but can't find the design you want anywhere. Once you contact me, jewelry maker Tony Payne, and explain what you want, I will give you a free price quote based on your unique design ideas. A sketch of the design can be made for your approval before any work begins.

The next step in the custom jewelry process is carving the wax model. For a video of me demonstrating this step in the process go to this YouTube page. Rings start out as wax tubes and pendants begin as wax sheets or blocks. Saws, files, and specialized carving tools are used to cut away the wax and sculpt the design.

Measurements are taken and the design is first scratched in the surface of the wax model. As in most sculpture the material that is not needed is removed. Wax can also be added to the design using a special tool. Once the design is carved, sprues, or wax wires, are added which will be attached to a flexible rubber base (see below). The wax is weighed and multiplied by a factor to see how much gold or sterling silver will be needed to make a complete cast.

The wax model is then attached to the rubber base using the wax sprue. More than one model can be attached to each base if needed. A metal flask is then put into the rubber base.

Investment is a white powder used in casting that is mixed with water. The investment is mixed using exact proportions, stirred and then poured into the metal flask. This material is semi-liquid when first mixed and it engulfs the wax model and sprues. It is then left for an hour to harden. The wax model and sprues are encased inside the hardened investment.

The rubber base is removed and the flask containing the wax is placed in a burnout oven. This burnout process takes about six to twelve hours to complete and reaches a maximum temperature of 1350 degrees Fahrenheit. The wax model is destroyed by this extreme heat leaving a cavity where it once was. The flask is taken out of the oven and molten gold or sterling silver is immediately poured into the cavity in the investment. The sprues now act as channels for the molten gold. The metal then cools and hardens.

After the metal cools the sprues are sawed off and the metal design is smoothed with files and then sanded. The piece is polished and given any finishes that are needed such as texturing or antiquing. Any gemstones are then set in the handmade ring, pin or pendant. This completes the ancient custom jewelry making process know as lost wax casting. The results is a finished handcrafted ring, bracelet or pendant that is unique and will always have special meaning to the person that wears it.

Pictured on this blog are some pieces of recently made custom designed jewelry I did for my Internet customers. The original was hand carved and cast in silver and a rubber mold was made from it which was used to make the additional pendant.

The unique cross and flower design pendant is done in sterling silver. If I make a unique original piece for you I will not make a duplicate of the design unless you ask for it. This insures that your design will not be duplicated without your permission.

The image below is a custom designed bracelet made in 14 karat white gold with beads set in each link that the customer provided. The first link was cast in gold and a rubber mold was made. This mold was used to make the other links used in this custom bracelet.

Pictured are four of my recent custom jewelry creations made for my Internet customers. Above is a baby white tiger ring with diamond eyes. It was done in 18 karat white gold. I can make jewelry in either sterling silver or gold. If gold is used it can be either 10, 14 or 18 karat and can be cast in either yellow and white color gold. I can supply many types of gemstones to use in jewelry including both natural and synthetic stones. The picture below is an initial pendant done in 14 karat yellow gold.

Below is a custom pendant I made for the Silent Heroes Foundation which does veterinary nonprofit work in Africa. It is done in sterling silver with some of the background antiqued.

Below is a pair of of initial cufflinks I made recently. They were cast using sterling silver as the metal. The background is antiqued black using an oxidation process.

Pictured on this blog are four examples of my recently created custom jewelry. The pieces include three pendants and one bracelet. All were made using the lost wax casting method in which a wax model is created of your jewelry design and it is cast in the metal of your choice. Three of the pieces are made in sterling silver and one is 18 karat yellow gold. Your custom jewelry can be made in either sterling silver or 10, 14 or 18 karat gold, or platinum. The gold can be yellow or white color. If you have scrap gold it can be used to make your custom ring or pendant. Your own gemstones can also be used to create your unique jewelry.

I can supply any gemstones such as diamonds, rubies, sapphires and emeralds. I also cut semi-precious gemstones for custom jewelry. My designer cut gemstone page has some examples of stones available.

I give free price quotes on all jewelry making projects. Before any work is done you can receive a sketch of your jewelry for your approval. As the wax carving nears completion you will receive pictures of the wax model for your approval.

The engagement ring pictured at the right was made in 14 karat yellow gold. This ring has a color stone accent, a unique customer created design and is part of a trio set.

This diamond engagement ring and the matching bands at the top of this page were made in 14 karat yellow and white gold. The engagement ring is set with 4 smaller and a one carat center diamond. The ladies wedding band is set with 4 round diamonds.

Below is the matching gents band to the colored stone engagement ring shown above. This ring is also done in 14 karat yellow gold and is set with 4 round stones.

The custom jewelry pictures on this blog are recent examples of my work for my Internet customers. I make jewelry based on the design you want. Your handmade jewelry can be a ring, pendant, pin or bracelet. It can be made in either sterling silver, gold or platinum.

Custom jewelry is first carved in wax and then cast in the precious metal of your choice. Any gemstones you desire, including diamonds, can be set in your unique jewelry design. Natural or synthetic stones can be used to make your jewelry piece as different as the person wearing it. You can also use your gemstones in the custom design.

If you choose gold as the metal it can be either yellow or white color. The gold can also be either 10, 14, or 18 karat in purity. The unique custom ring above was made in 14 karat white gold.
