Music Monday: The End Of The World (Friend of the People Mixtape) by Lupe Fiasco

2011-11-28T14:00:00.000-08:00

I posted the awesome M83 track "Midnight City" as a Music Monday song a few weeks ago, and now one of my favorite rappers has used that beat to lay down their rhymes. Two great things together, to make a really fantastic song.

Lupe Fiasco released a new mixtape recently and "The End Of The World" is a highlight! Listen to the song right here:

9 Pop Culture Things I'm Thankful For

2011-11-24T13:51:00.000-08:00

While everyone lists the things they're thankful for in terms of family, friends, loved ones, life experiences and all that mumbo jumbo, I need to send out a few thanks for the pop culture, TV, and movie related things that helped make this year awesome.

1. Superhero Movies
I am so glad this trend is still going strong. Even with a couple duds like THE GREEN LANTERN, they're producing some great ones like CAPTAIN AMERICA. Plus, I'm so excited for the upcoming AVENGERS!

2. Revenge
My favorite of the new shows, it's definitely been keeping me on my toes! While the first few episodes were a little formulaic with a "revenge-a-week," it's become more interesting and wrenches get thrown in Emily's plans.

3. Netflix Instant
While Netflix has had a less than stellar year, I'm still thankful for the access to movies and TV at my fingertips. The fact that I've been able to catch up on Parks & Recreation while at the gym still blows my mind. Not to mention the recent announcement that when (if?) Arrested Development comes back, it'll be available exclusively on Netflix. Technology is amazing!

4. The Vampire Diaries
While I haven't been recapping this season, it's still one of the best shows on television! The plot moves at a breakneck pace, and even the exposition/mythology explaining episodes are handled deftly and are engaging.

5. What exactly is a "party pooper?"
This hilarious video is still one of my most popular posts and it's not hard to see why!

6. Saturday Night Live
This season has been fantastic, with a great list of hosts and musical guests. Plus, they gave us this gem:

7. Get Out of There Cat
LOLcats may be a little played out by now, but cats being where they don't belong? Love it!

8. DisneyBound
I love Disney, I'm starting to get in to fashion a bit more, and this is the perfect blend of both. Girly, geeky, and cute - right up my alley!

9. YOU
Of course, I'm thankful for my readers! I love interacting with everyone in the comments, on the Facebook page, and on Twitter. Thanks so much for reading and watching what I post. I really, truly appreciate every one of you and am glad others enjoy Pop Culture like random viral videos and memes, TV and films as much as I do. :)

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!! What pop culture things are you thankful for this year?

Happy Thanksgiving!

2011-11-24T08:00:00.000-08:00

Beauty and the Beast 3D trailer

2011-11-23T16:36:00.000-08:00

When Disney re-released THE LION KING in 3D, I was wary because it didn't need to be converted to the new medium to be a good movie. It's a timeless classic that I would have preferred to see on the big screen in 2D, in bright vibrant color. Luckily, there were a few theaters that did that! I'm hoping BEAUTY AND THE BEAST will have the same sort of release in 2012.

It's one of my favorite Disney films and I am glad that it's getting reintroduced to a new generation, even if it means a not entirely necessary post-conversion to 3D. Catch the trailer after the break.

Michael Fassbender Knows His Wangs

2011-11-22T16:00:00.000-08:00

This is a slight NSFW video, so if you're sitting at your office desk just bookmark this for later. You don't want to miss it, but you definitely don't want to get caught by your boss watching it!

MTV's After Hours apparently has a segment called "Members Only" where they have celebrities try to guess the male celebs in the movie screen shots, based just off the penis in the frame. Surprisingly, Fassbender does really well! It's the banter and guessing that really make this video. "You know that penis" and pretty much all the comments around Viggo Mortensen's picture are the best!

Watch the video after the break.

Sundance Channel's The Mortified Sessions premieres in December

2011-11-21T22:31:00.000-08:00

Sundance Channel's newest show The Mortified Sessions is premiering soon! Check out the official blurb:

Did you rock a fanny pack in the 90's? Could you have passed for a Chia Pet with your 80's hair do? Remember those days when MC hammer pants were cool?

Well Sundance does, and on December 5th, hilarious Office actor Ed Helms, Oscar winner Mo'Nique, and star of Modern Family Eric Stonestreet will be recounting those days during the premiere of Sundance Channel's new show The Mortified Sessions. Get to know how your favorite celebrities became who they are by taking an entertaining look at who they were. From awkward childhood photos to embarrassing poetry, this is one trip down memory lane you have to see! The Mortified Sessions will premiere in a back to back stacked TV event on December 5th starting at 8PM ET on Sundance Channel!

Visit http://on.fb.me/SDMortifiedSessions or http://www.sundancechannel.com/the-mortified-sessions/ for more info.

Ed Helms is now the best part of The Office so I'm already interested just because of his involvement! I'll have to track down what channel is The Sundance Channel on my cable box, just so I can check this baby out. Will you tune in?

Music Monday: My Moon My Man by Feist

2011-11-21T16:00:00.000-08:00

Last week I was lucky enough to catch Feist at The Wiltern for The Audio Perv. You can see my full review of the show there. While Feist just came out with a new album, Metals, I still prefer their older tracks - like My Moon My Man. Catch the song after the break.

SNL Highlight: Really??!?! with Seth & Kermit

2011-11-21T14:00:00.000-08:00

One of my favorite segments of Weekend Update has always been "REALLY!?! with Seth & Amy" so I was super excited to hear it would be back on the show. Then you add in a Muppet and it just skyrocketed to the top of my list of awesome things that happened this weekend. Watch Seth and Kermit take down the whole "pizza is a vegetable" nonsense that happened in Congress last week:

SNL Highlight: Jason Segel and Paul Rudd make out!

2011-11-21T12:00:00.000-08:00

Everyone was expecting the Muppet cameos in the show, but I was pleasantly surprised when Paul Rudd showed up for the Kissing Thanksgiving sketch! It was a brief cameo, but hilarious thanks to the ferocity that they just went at it! There was just so much tongue, I don't even know how they were able to stay in character and just go with it. Watch the entire family be way too affectionate after the break.

SNL Highlight: Jason Segel and THE MUPPETS Opening Monologue

2011-11-21T10:30:00.000-08:00

Please tell me you're excited for the new MUPPETS movie! If not, I don't know if we can be online friends. Jason Segel took the Saturday Night Live stage this past weekend and did an excellent job hosting, along with some stellar cameos from Muppets, Paul Rudd, and a politician. Check out the great musical opening monologue after the break.

Jizz in My Pants: TWILIGHT Edition!

2011-11-17T12:30:00.000-08:00

In "honor" of BREAKING DAWN's release tomorrow, enjoy this hilarious video of The Lonely Island/SNL's "Jizz in my Pants." I love the facial expressions they got of Bella and Edward! Are you planning on seeing TWILIGHT this weekend?

The Small Screen Podcast: Episode 11 (COMMUNITY's future is GRIMM)

2011-11-16T08:00:00.000-08:00

This week's big news is definitely NBC's release of their midseason schedule. Including some time shifts and premiere dates, the biggest news of all that sent shockwaves (shockwaves!) through the internet television community, was the disappearance of Community from the schedule. Listen as we dive in to the news, as well as talk about the People's Choice Awards, the Oscars drama, and what we've been watching this week.

Goodnight iPad: Goodnight Moon for a new generation

2011-11-15T14:00:00.000-08:00

I remember reading Goodnight Moon as a kid. It looks like it's getting a funny, modern update to include all the technology that distracts us from sleeping night after night. I know there are plenty of nights (and mornings!) where I just lie in bed on my iPhone, catching up on tweets and Facebook, instead of sleeping.

Music Monday: Midnight City by M83

2011-11-14T14:10:00.000-08:00

This may be in a Victoria Secret commercial, but it's still a pretty awesome song! Have you discovered any other great tracks from commercials and television?

SNL Highlight: Everyone Cries to Adele's "Someone Like You"

2011-11-13T13:16:00.000-08:00

The best sketch of the night was definitely the last sketch, so if you couldn't stay up to watch the cast cry together to Adele's soulful ballad "Someone Like You" then you can watch this shoddy pirated version right here. Unfortunately, because of music streaming rights this sketch and my other favorite sketch "Les Jeunes Des Paris" aren't available on Hulu.

Watch them cry after the break, quick before NBC takes offline:

SNL Highlight: Emma Stone's Opening Monologue with Spider-Man

2011-11-13T12:09:00.000-08:00

Emma Stone did a fantastic job as host of this week's Saturday Night Live. This was her second time appearing on the show, and I hope she comes back for many more.

She's been busy joining the exciting world of THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN with (rumored beau) Andrew Garfield. Check out her hilarous opening monologue where Andy Samberg takes on the role of Spider-Man and rehashes the same monologue from the 2001 Spider-man monlogue with Kristen Dunst. Watch the full monologue after the break.

IMMORTALS is the best new release this week

2011-11-11T15:44:00.000-08:00

Today is 11/11/11 and there was a big marketing push around that for a few movies, particularly IMMORTALS. But what else came out today? Apparently, not much in terms of quality...

J. Edgar has the pedigree with Leonardo DiCaprio and Clint Eastwood involved. However, the reviews have been pretty mixed, given that caliber of talent.

Jack and Jill is so obviously terrible that I really don't need to get into it here.

And that leaves IMMORTALS. I saw it a couple weeks ago and while it's not a great Greek epic and certainly doesn't live up to 300, it was definitely an enjoyable watch thanks to some stellar visuals, amazing 3D, and visionary fight scenes. You can ready my full review on NapiersNews.com.

And for those of my readers who are also fans of The Vampire Diaries, the evil king's sniveling sidekick is TVD's Klaus! He's way better at being evil than being evil's sidekick though. I was pretty disappointed he didn't get a chance to really shine - he was basically the movie's punching bag throughout.

If you see IMMORTALS this weekend, let me know your thoughts in the comments!

The Small Screen Podcast: Episode 10 (Is PSYCH better than COMMUNITY?)

2011-11-11T08:00:00.000-08:00

We tackle that question and more in this week's episode of The Small Screen Podcast! Check below for the full breakdown, then be sure to follow me (@kristal_bailey) and my co-host (@poppas2cents) on Twitter and his blog www.poppas2cents.com.

What is a "Party Pooper" exactly?

2011-11-08T14:00:00.000-08:00

The US/English idiom of someone being a "party pooper" has this guy wondering how that is even socially acceptable. Check out this hilarious moment of something being lost in translation!

Music Monday: Block after Block by Matt and Kim

2011-11-07T11:00:00.000-08:00

With that extra hour of sleep, I've got a bit more bounce in my step this Monday morning! Listening to this upbeat tune from Matt & Kim certainly helps too.

SNL Highlight: A Kardashian Divorce Special

2011-11-07T08:00:00.000-08:00

This is probably the only time the word/name "Kardashian" will ever appear on this blog. The Kardashian family is a running joke in Hollywood that it seems everyone gets but them. Is it bad that I could totally see this being a legitimate special?

Check the hilarious clip after the break.
