You and I share very little in common politically, and I’d like to approach this and comment with every bit of respect I can muster. The flaw(I believe) in your reasoning there is that (for the most part) everyone in prison has already been convicted rightly. President Bush, whatever his faults, has only been convicted in the court of public opinion. What if charges were brought and a US court agreed to hear a trial of President Bush?There would not be enough of his “peers” to hold a jury trial. I mean peers in the literal sense that there are only two former living presidents and one of them is his father, instant conflict of interest there.

My point is that unless a foreign country were to go the Hague and bring war crimes charges, the case would be moot. In my very humble opinion, if one were looking to charge anyone, it would have to be Don Rumsfeld.

Approximately 10% of the Federal budget “PAY[S] THE WAGES OF THOSE AFOREMENTIONED TROOPS.” Indeed, given equipment costs, far less than that.

To put it in language you’d understand, dumbass, I’ll pay 10% of my current tax bill to support the troops. I’ll even up it to 20%, so long as that money goes for national defense, constitutional spending. You can take over the additional 80% of my Federal tax bill for your vote-buying schemes.

As Secretary of the Treasury, Alexander Hamilton pushed Congress to fund our first naval ships, in order to better secure maritime commerce. Maritime trade has always been at our nation’s core. We have a Navy, first and foremost, to secure the high seas for trade.

Since U.S. and NATO ships are routinely operating in the vicinity of the Arabian Gulf and further South along Africa’s Eastern coast, it is not unusual for our Navy to respond to acts of piracy, collisions, or medical emergencies, while the ships are deployed.

The United States Navy has a great legacy of rendering aid to sailors, regardless of their nation of origin, and for responding to belligerent acts, both by other navies or by bands of criminals, with the appropriate amount of firepower, where needed.

Maersk Lines is no more receiving favorable treatment, than someone whose home is on fire, receives favorable treatment from the Fire Department. Like the Firemen, responding to a fire, our Navy is, as always, on the high seas and responding to a threat; in this case, the pirate attack on the Maersk ship, Alabama.

A great counterpoint to this inanity with Ed Henry and even Chuck Todd’s stupefying “sacrifice” question is the one posed by Sam Stein of Huffington Post at the first presser. To see a Democratic president being challenged from the left on a policy issue is a refreshing and beautiful change.

As Senator Webb’s Chief-of Staff, please convey to him my appreciation for his taking on the incarceration issue which needs serious reform, It is in a disgusting and deplorable mess. I am a retired Catholic priest, and ex -Navy and VA chaplain who has spent much time visiting people in prison and/or corresponding with them. The visits and their letters have always left me angry and depressed - and often leave me frightened for them.

Where’s the reporter who is going to ask President Obama a good question like, “Why aren’t you promoting single payee national health insurance?” It would be relatively easy to convert all Americans into Medicare…..

We will know that we have a “real reporter” on the scene when this question gets asked.

Really? That’s awesome, except I’m not sure why they are protesting the War in Iraq when Obama has already announced an exit plan. They should be protesting the bailout, lol.

Also, I was mainly just trying to clarify that the relatively large protest in Arlington had nothing to do with the 10-20 protesters in Gtown.

That 2500 to 3000 estimate was an “underestimate” by big brother folks. The more likely estimate is 8000-10,000 demonstrators. I’m basing this on the estimates of some experienced folks who attended the event and their histroy of accurate crowd estimates.

I’m not saying you conveniently forgot to mention anything. I’m just saying that as long as the tickets didn’t come from Congressman Moran’s allotment for his constituents and did, indeed, come from someone else, there is nothing illegal about what Brian Moran is doing. It also is very similar to something the Obama campaign itself is doing, so if you’re questioning Moran’s ethics in doing a fundraiser like this, you’ll have to acknowledge that he is not alone.

Personally, I do think it’s kind of, well, icky (and thought the same thing when I got the e-mail from the Obama campaign). But politics is about money these days and the ability to raise campaign funds.

How is this any different than the promotional mailing I got directly from the Obama campaign last week that encouraged me to make a gift of $25 or more so I could be entered into a raffle for one of ten prizes that included not just an Inauguration ticket, but accommodations and a ticket to an Inaugural Ball?

Sorry, Terry, this is a tempest in a teapot. So long as the ticket did not orginate from *Congressman* Jim Moran’s allotment, there is nothing to see here.
