i started this blog in 2006, and it's shifted along with my interests through the years. it's been witness to a lot of learning for me...

still, i feel that i need a home for my photography -- so from now on, i'll be posting my pictures on the journal on my reworked website. if you like my photos, you might decide to follow me there!

my first post is here -- check it out!

as for this blog, i'm not sure what will happen. i don't think i'm willing to let it go, and certainly i'll keep it as an archive, but i need some time to figure it out.

i have a personal tradition of photographing the first dawn of every year. on january 1st i got up at 5 and drove over to cape sounion, at a spot where, if i was lucky with the weather, would have the sun rise just beyond poseidon's temple. unfortunately for me, the clouds didn't thin out, so i made the best of it and shot a long exposure.

a year of pictures 2013

i took an obscene number of pictures this year... there were events, travels, portraits, stock photography and experiments. i had both scheduled, intentional shoots and images captured on the fly with my ever-present camera. in previous years, i tried to include most of the keepers in the annual video, but this year i just gave up and made a selection.

this video is not a portfolio -- i have a website for that -- so the images are not necessarily the ones that i believe are my best. this is a personal reminder of the year, with shots that please me for my own quirky, obscure reasons.

the track is postmodern one by noel koutlis, who very kindly gave me permission to use it. i had the difficult task selecting just one of his great tracks on soundcloud.

many thanks to pritanis, DJ for the hip hop group imiskoumbria, and magician of sound, for his technical support.

i used photoshop CC exclusively to create this year's video. it has rough edges, but i'm not proficient in video-making (yet).
