Amazon launches Kindle for BlackBerry, free download

It seems that Amazon decided to port their e-book reader application to BlackBerry. Even in its Beta stage, Kindle for BlackBerry allows the users to read over 400,000 e-books on their BlackBerry devices. The application uses Amazon’s Whispersync technology that allows full bookmark syncronization across all devices including Apple’s iPad, PC, Kindle, BlackBerry and iPhone. Of course, the application will allow the customers to read the beginning of any e-book before they actually buy it or adjust the text size.

There is alot of buzz around this release and even if this is only a marketing “glitch”, users can only benefit from this application and its platform porting.

When Ebay released their official Blackberry app, it was just common sense a Paypal would follow. You don't need to see far to the future to predict that mobile payment system is going to be big, its just a matter of time before people get use to it.
Paypal's app for the Blackberry is simple enough to use to send money, I just wish they added an invoice feature so I can request money from my customers. That would have made made this software perfect for business users. But overall its a must have app and better than using your phone's browser to access paypal.

Freee Vonage Client For BlackBerry

I'm still waiting for a true VOIP service that works with the Blackberry, I was hoping Vonage would come out with a true VOIP app that would work over WIFI. Altough Vonage does not do this, its hard to deny having a Vonage app in your Blackberry is a great option. Using Vonage you can take advantage of low international calling rates and even use a pay as you go option. The sound quality is really good using Vonage to make calls, just be aware the software dials a local US number to route your calls. Having the Vonage app dial a local number is not all bad since it makes compatible with even the Blackberry phones.

MyPodder is simply like having a portable version of itunes in your Blackberry that you can update whenever you plug in your Blackberry to a Windows, Mac and even a Linux machine. As long as the computer you connect to your Blackberry has mass storage support you can run MyPodder and download your latest audio and video podcasts.

To get the latest version of myPodder you need to create a free account in the Podcast Ready website and download the "All in one version(Windows,Mac,Linux)". You then need to install MyPodder to your Blackberrys media card, preferably inside the Blackberry folder so all your audio and video podcast can be recognize by your Blackberry's media player.

Creating new podcast is easy you just choose the podcast you like in the Podcast Ready website and your list will show up in your Blackberry's myPodder automatically. You can also follow any Podcast not found in Podcast Ready by just entering the RSS feed.

It can't get much easier than this, I can now download Podcasts while I'm charging my Blackberry. Just in case for some reason you don't want to create an account in Podcast Ready I've included a link to an older version of myPodder that does not require opening an account.

RIM is joining the Open Screen Project, a broad initiative dedicated to enabling standalone applications and richer Web browsing across Mobile phone, televisions, desktops and other consumer electronic devices through the Adobe Flash Platform. The collaboration is expected to bring the full Flash Player browser runtime to Blackberry smartphones.

Evernote which I consider as the best cross-platform notebook application in the world has finally arrived on the Blackberry. Through the years the developers of Evernote have rolled out some great changes in Evernote , making it more just about making notes. At this moment you an create web clips, audio notes, capture images and even twitter messages ( have to figure that out ). Since Evernote strives to be a cross-platform application you can sync all of your information from your PC, Mac, Iphone and now your Blackberry. I just love the fact your not limited to one machine making it easy to get access to your data where ever you may be.

Listening to an interview with an Evernote executive saying they are working hard to make their application your second brain which make me even more excited that its now available for the Blackberry.

Im always a compulsive note taker which makes my Blackberry's built in memo pad one of my most use software. Altough my phones built in memo pad is adequate, its always nice to have something different. ActionPad presents itself as an interesting add on that works in harmony with your Blackberry's Memopad software. In fact ActionPad requires Blackberry Memopad to be installed inorder for it to work.

ActionPad has some great features I wish was present in Memopad, like individual memo encryption and easy category changes. ActionPad has some unique features which it calls as behaviors; auto date stamp on the title, auto title numbering and much more. There's also some integration with your phone's calendar and address book.

Blackberry App World

Its finally here! Blackberry just release Blackberry App World. You can now easily install applications or software straight from your Blackberry phone. This includes purchasing paid applications from your phone and some free ones. All payments are processed by Paypal, which I think is very smart since its easier to keep track of what you buy instead of being billed by your carrier in the end of the month.

Inside the app store you can write and read reviews of different applications. I love the section where you can see what applications you have purchased as well as see what you have installed. Overall the Blackberry App World is what I expected it to be, RIM did a great job on the UI ( User Interface ) making it simple for any Blackberry owner to use. In future devices Blackberry App World pre-installed.
But there's one big concern I have on the initial roll out of Blackberry App World, right now its only available to certain regions ( USA, Canada and UK ). I know a lot of people are waiting around the world get this ( Germany, Spain, Australia). I hope in the comming weeks we'll get some news whens its available worldwide.

Facebook 1.6 is finally out! I've been waiting for this app for long time and I'm happy to say it was worth it. I'm so relieved they got over 1.5 and did something cool with their app like being able to write on the wall and getting it more integrated with the Blackberry environment. The strength of the Blackberry has always been their push technology, making a software that takes advantage of this is the right way to go.
Facebook 1.6 really feels solid and very stable on my Blackberry Bold and Curve. The notifications you get directly in your home screen is just great. New features like being able to see comments people made with your friends status updates is really handy and enables you to participate in the discussion faster that opening up facebook in your PC. Facebook 1.6 is a great addition to your phone, its around 800k but its worth the download.

Going back to the Wordpress client, the moment you install it on your phone, you will have to setup your hosting details, either your hosted on a wordpress domain or your you have Wordpress installed on your domain. Setup is very easy and straight forward, enter your URL, username and password.

After this you can now compose new post and even upload pictures. The client also has some handy comment moderation, so now you can through them where ever you may be.

Overall the wordpress client works great I do notice it to be a bit slower on the Pearl and the Curve compared to Bold. It works great on the Storm and I love the landscape mode.
